Comic Book Review: Batman #676
2008-05-15 18:04:00
The much hyped ?Batman RIP? story arc is finally upon us. The Revolution is rather curious to see if this story arc can live up to all the hype and fanfare that DC has been bombarding the reader with. I am always skeptical of any big event that promises to radically shake up a specific character and their world. However, Morrison has earned my trust and I have faith that he has something interesting in store for us. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Batman #676.Creative TeamWriter: Grant MorrisonPencils: Tony DanielInks: Sandu FloreaArt Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Batman and Robin charging over a building rooftop with Batman saying ?You?re wrong! Batman and Robin will never die! We then cut to six months earlier with a horse driven carriage arriving outside a large mansion. A man who looks like the Hunchback of Notre Dame enters the mansion that is owned by Doctor Hurt. The m...

Comic Book Review: The Man With No Name #1
2008-05-14 16:17:00
The Revolution has always loved Clint Eastwood's westerns and in particular the ?spaghetti westerns? by Sergio Leone. The Sergio Leone movies include A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). Clint Eastwood plays the role of the The Man With No Name who is by far my favorite character from any movie, book or comic book. The Man with No Name is the baddest man you will ever come across.I am intrigued that Dynamite Entertainment has decided to make a comic book using a character that is rather old and has been out of circulation for such a long time. However, it is cool to see the Man with No Name finally appearing in a comic book after being the inspiration for so many modern day comic book characters. Evidently, The Man With No Name #1 begins right where the movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly ended. I hope that Cage can deliver a quality read with The Man With No Name #1. Let?s go ahead and do this review.Creative TeamWrite...

Marvel is making this summer a wonderful time for Iron Man fans. If that is the case then apology accepted.I have never checked out Marvel?s Marvel Kids website, but I finally took a peek at it this week and I have to say that it is pretty cool. Weekly Awards For The Comic Books From May 7, 2008
2008-05-14 04:55:00
Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Avengers/Invaders #1Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1X-Factor : Quick and the Dead #1The Winner: X-Factor: Quick and the Dead #1I found last week?s selection of comic books to be a fairly strong one. Avengers/Invaders #1 was a good debut issue to what should be a great 12 issue series. Krueger is a master the set-up issue since he has a talent for introducing characters in a quick and entertaining fashion.Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1 was nothing but pure fun. This title isn?t anything intense, dramatic or complex. Instead, it is just good quality entertainment. This is the type of comic book that puts a smile on your face from start to finish. However, the title that I had to give The Che to is one that I did not even have a chance to review: X-Factor: Quick and the Dead #1. Peter David did a wonderful job with this one-shot issue. David has been pretty much the only writer to ac...

Comic Book Review: Avengers/Invaders #1
2008-05-12 23:57:00
The Revolution has been anxiously awaiting Avengers /Invaders #1 for quite some time. It is no secret that we have fell in love with the what Krueger and Ross have given us over on Project Super Powers. Krueger?s exceptional handling of those Golden Age characters makes me confident that Krueger will do a fine job with the Invaders. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Avengers/Invaders #1.Creative TeamPlot: Jim Krueger & Alex RossScript: Jim KruegerArtist: Steve SadowskiArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: This issue is narrated by Bucky in the form of journal entries. Bucky talks about how Hitler is searching for occult weapons to make the war go his way. We see the Invaders taking part in a mission named Operation Time Ghost in Italy. Comic Book Review: Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1
2008-05-12 15:59:00
Marvel continues to flood the market with Iron Man as we get yet another Iron Man mini-series with Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas . Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man, is handling the writing duties on this title as Adi Granov handles the art chores. I am looking forward to Favreau?s story. Favreau gave us a fantastic version of Tony Stark and clearly gets Tony?s character. I?m confident that we will get a good read with Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Jon FavreauArtist: Adi GranovArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Ms. Bloodstone and an archeologist arriving at an ancient temple alongside the Yangtze River. Comic Book Review: Invincible Iron Man #1
2008-05-11 22:15:00
With the smash success of the movie Iron Man, you just knew that Marvel had plans to unleash an onslaught of Iron Man titles into the market. Despite the fact that Iron Man has never posted large sales numbers, Marvel feels that it is time for a second monthly Iron Man title.Invincible Iron Man #1 is brought to us by Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca. I dig Larroca?s art, so I?m sure that we will get a pretty looking issue. Matt Fraction is a solid, but not spectacular writer. And it seems that he flourishes more on gritty urban based characters than a jet-setting, hi-tech and flashy character like Tony Stark. So, needless to say, I have to admit that I find Matt Fraction as an odd choice by Marvel to head up the writing duties on Invincible Iron Man.At any rate, I am a die-hard and long-time Iron Man fan. Therefore, you know that I am going to loyally purchase Invincible Iron Man no matter what. Still, I have serious reservations about what Fraction has in store for us. It pretty ...

Comic Book Review: Mighty Avengers #13: Secret Invasion
2008-05-09 17:10:00
The Revolution really enjoyed the last issue of Mighty Avengers. Bendis did a fantastic job writing Nick Fury?s character and filling the reader in on the back-story about what Nick has been doing in connection with the Skrull invasion. Mighty Avengers #13 continues to follow Nick Fury as he attempts to deal with the Skrull infiltration. It also appears that we are going to get treated to an all new version of the Howling Commandos. I have a good feeling that Mighty Avengers #13 is going to be a fine read. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Brain Michael BendisArtist: Alex MaleevArt Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene from six months ago. Comic Book Review: Secret Invasion #2
2008-05-08 14:53:00
The Revolution found Secret Invasion #1 to be a slightly above average read. Bendis started off slowly, but he slowly gained some steam and delivered a pretty good ending to the debut issue of this big event. I expect Secret Invasion #2 to be a good read that provides some nice cotton candy for the brain. Let?s go ahead and do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Brian Michael BendisPencils: Leinel YuInks: Mark MoralesArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 5.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with the 1970?s characters squared off against the combined forces of the Mighty Avengers and the Secret Avengers. Wow! Talk about a sweet looking cartoon. It appears that Marvel is cramming just about every character connected to the X-Men into this series. I am definitely excited for this cartoon?s debut. My only complaint is the title. It should just be the ?X-Men.?All right, let?s check out the comic books for this week. We have 13 titles headed to the Bunker. Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Action Comic s #864DC Universe #0Legion of Super Heroes #41Immortal Iron Fist #14New Avengers #40The Winner: DC Universe #0Last week treated us to an excellent crop of comic books. This was a tough decision for me to decide which issue was going to receive The Che this week. Action Comics #864 was an excellent teaser issue for the upcoming Legion of Three Worlds mini-series. Johns does his job by providing enough back-ground information for newer readers while getting long time readers pumped up for a titanic showdown with the Time Trapper.Legion of Super Heroes #41 was another excellent read. Shooter continues to impress me with his work on this title. I was initially skeptical about DC?s decision to go to an old Legion writer from the 1960?s to revive this moribund title. Well, the old man still has it and Shooter has proven my reservations completely unfounded. Shooter...

Comic Book Movie Review: Iron Man
2008-05-06 19:09:00
The Revolution finally got over to the movie theater and saw Iron Man. Needless to say, I absolutely loved the movie. Of course, I knew that I would like this movie. What has stunned me is the impressive opening that Iron Man had last weekend and the overwhelming number of positive reviews from all the movie critics.Iron Man hauled in a remarkable $104 million in its opening weekend. That is the second highest opening ever for a non-sequel and the tenth highest opening of all-time. Overseas, Iron Man pulled in $96.8 million giving Iron Man a grand total of $201 million in its opening weekend. The reported production costs for Iron Man have varied between $140 million and $180 million. So, it appears that Marvel will be netting a nice profit off of Iron Man.Marvel will certainly be happy with Iron Man?s opening weekend seeing that Iron Man is the first movie that is fully financed and produced film by the newly formed Marvel Studios. Paramount Pictures handled the distribution of Iro...

Comic Book Review: Green Lantern #30
2008-05-06 15:11:00
The Revolution rarely enjoys origin stories. And the last issue of Green Lantern was no exception. Johns is giving us the second installment of the ?Secret Origin? story with Green Lantern #30. The fact is that most origin stories are a bit boring as the writer rarely gives anything new for long time readers to enjoy. Johns is basically just taking several issues off in order to catch his breath for the next story arc. I?m sure that Green Lantern #30 will be another average read. Let?s go ahead and do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Geoff JohnsArtist: Ivan ReisInkers: Oclair AlbertArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Abin Sur piloting a small ship to Earth. Comic Book Review: Teen Titans #58
2008-05-05 23:05:00
Teen Titans continues to be an entertaining read. I concede that McKeever is treading very well worn ground with yet another evil version of the Teen Titans in the Terror Titans. However, the story has been fast paced with good action and solid character work. I fully expect Teen Titans #58 to be another quality read. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriters: Sean McKeeverPencils: Carlos RodriguezInks: Bit, Rebecca Buchman & Jimmy PalmiottiArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene to one week ago. Comic Book Review: Legion of Super Heroes #41
2008-05-05 16:39:00
The Revolution always looks forward to Shooter?s latest issue of the Legion of Super Heroes . To be sure, Shooter does need to tighten up the story a bit and pick the pace up on this alien invader plotline. Still, I am in love with this title due to the character work that has been so enjoyable and the fact that for the first time in many years this title actually reads like a Legion title. I?m confident that Legion of Super Heroes #41 will be another quality read. Let?s go ahead and hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Jim ShooterPencils: Aaron LoprestiInks: Matt RyanArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Timber Wolf trying to restrain Princess Projectra from killing the tourists who touched her. Comic Book Review: Action Comics #864
2008-05-04 17:30:00
The Revolution was less than impressed with the Legion of Super Heroes story arc. It was dull and anti-climactic. Now that Johns has concluded a major story arc, I expect him to follow it up with a filler issue in Action Comic s #864. We are also getting a fill-in artist with this issue. I am not expecting this issue to be anything special. Maybe Johns will surprise me with what he in store for us with this issue. Comic Book Review: New Avengers #40: Secret Invasion
2008-05-02 14:27:00
The Revolution has maintained low expectations for Secret Invasion. I am not expecting anything more than a story that is the equivalent of your typical summer blockbuster movie. And so far, this approach has served me well as I have been rather entertained by this Skrull infiltration. I am definitely looking forward to New Avengers #40 since it continues the story that we got over on New Avengers: The Illuminati #1 that came out way back in December of 2006. Talk about a long wait. This should be an entertaining read. Let?s go ahead and hit this review for New Avengers #40.Creative TeamWriter: Brain Michael BendisPencils: Jim CheungInks: John DellArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with the ending of New Avengers: The Illuminati #1 with King Dorrek of the Skrulls asking his head scientist if they got everything that they needed from the Earthlings. DC Universe #0 is supposed to give the reader a sneak peak at the upcoming events in Action Comic s, Batman , Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Final Crisis. Needless to say, this should be an interesting read. I?m curious to see if DC can rebound from the dismal failure known as Countdown to Final Crisis and manage to get readers excited about Final Crisis. Comic Book Review: Justice League of America #20
2008-04-28 22:52:00
Justice League of America has lost much of its luster as DC has reduced it mainly as a platform to shill for storylines to be delivered in other titles. It appears that Justice League of America #20 is going to be a pure filler issue as we get a one and done story featuring Flash and Wonder Woman. I don?t really expect much from this issue. Weekly Awards For The Comic Books From April 23, 2008

Let?s go ahead and dish out The Revolution?s weekly awards. The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:Batman #675Mighty Avengers #12Thor #8The Winner: Thor #8This was a pretty solid collection of comic books this week. Morrison served up a surprisingly intense and unexpected ending with Batman #675. I continue to be impressed with Morrison?s Batman and enjoy how Morrison is handling Bruce?s character.Mighty Avengers #12 was a great read. I was so impressed with how Bendis wrote Fury?s character. It is wonderful to see Bendis flexing his obvious creative talents and write a unique voice for Fury that didn?t read like a trademark ?Bendis voice.? Mighty Avengers #12 proved two things. First, that Bendis can flat out write the hell out of Nick Fury and if old one-eye ever got his own title then Bendis should be the writer. Second, that Bendis really excels in stories that center on a single character rather than on a team full of characters. However, I had to give the Che for...

Comic Book Review: Hulk #3
2008-04-28 04:05:00
The Revolution has found the Hulk to be a bit lacking in substance. I dig McGuinness? artwork, but the writing has been unimpressive. Even though I wasn?t all that thrilled with much of the last issue, I have to admit that the ending totally hooked me. Seeing Rick Jones alive was a shock, but that was nothing compared to how stunned I was when Rick transformed into the new Abomination. With that ending, Loeb immediately grabbed my attention and got me excited for Hulk #3. With that said, let?s go ahead and hit this review for Hulk #3.Creative TeamWriter: Jeph LoebPencils: Ed McGuinnessInks: Dexter VinesArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Iron Man and She-Hulk standing next to the wreckage of the SHIELD Hellicarrier. Comic Book Review: Countdown to Final Crisis #1
2008-04-24 23:08:00
We are finally here. There were moments when I thought I would not be able to last to the very end. It has been a real struggle to keep chronicling this story as it simply sunk to all new lows with each issue. For as much a success as 52 was, Countdown has been an unmitigated failure. DC gagged up one horribly plotted and paced story with this title. Countdown was a flawed and poorly conceived idea from the start and suffered from lousy execution. And what really gets me is that there appears to be no purpose to this title. Morrison has gone out of his way to state that his Final Crisis has nothing to do with Countdown to Final Crisis. Huh, whaaaat? You mean a comic book entitled ?Countdown to Final Crisis? has nothing to do with Final Crisis? That lacks any and all sense. That is either a result of poor communication between the DC editorial staff and their creative talent or an admission by DC that Countdown has been an utter failure. At any rate, the end is finally here as Countdow...

Comic Book Review: X-Factor #30
2008-04-22 15:15:00
What a week this is. The Revolution gets treated to our three favorite Marvel comic books in Captain America, Iron Man and X-Factor . Now, I will admit that X-Factor cooled off a bit due to Messiah Complex. Even though I enjoyed the Messiah Complex event, I found that it did nothing but hinder X-Factor?s momentum. I would have rather that the Marvel editors simply leave David alone to do his own thing with X-Factor. I prefer X-Factor to remain largely separated from the rest of the X-titles. Still, on the plus side, the Messiah Complex issues did expose X-Factor to new readers who still had not given this gem of a title a try.At any rate, I?m looking forward to X-Factor #30. I have always liked Arcade. He is an enjoyable old school villain complete with a goofy gimmick and preposterous and outlandish death traps. I wouldn?t want a steady diet of this type of over the top and unrealistic villain, but it is fine for a once in a while treat. Let?s go ahead and do this review for X-Facto...

Comic Book Review: Iron Man: Legacy of Doom
2008-04-21 15:00:00
The Revolution had to pick up a copy of Iron Man : Legacy of Doom #1. C?mon, it is David Michelinie and Bob Layton! These guys are the definitive Iron Man creative team. Michelinie and Layton served two tours of duty on Iron Man. The first from 1978 to 1982 and the second tour from 1987-1989.At any rate, this mini-series is the conclusion of The Camelot Trilogy. In 1981, Michelinie and Layton gave us the first installment of this trilogy with Iron Man #149-150, when Doom and Iron Man got stuck in King Arthur?s Camelot. The second installment of this trilogy was in 1989 when Michelinie and Layton gave us Iron Man #249-250 where Merlin summons Iron Man and Doom to the future to save the world from futuristic versions of the two men and to further the return of King Arthur.Evidently, Iron Man: Legacy of Doom is a lost tale that takes place a few weeks after the events in Iron Man (Vol. 1) #250. All right, enough of the back-story. Let?s go ahead and do this review for Iron Man: Legacy o...

Comic Book Review: Iron Man #28

Iron Man continues to be another phenomenally well written title that unfortunately isn?t getting the attention that it so richly deserves. It is an absolute shame that much of the utter garbage that Marvel and DC foists on us each month sells better than Iron Man. Of course, when Marvel allows writers like Bendis and JMS to routinely perform character assassination on Tony Stark it is no wonder that more comic book readers aren?t giving this title a try.Still, the Knaufs remain undaunted by the tough situation that Marvel has placed them in. The Knaufs continually deliver a complex, deep and impeccably crafted read each and every month. I have never seen a writing team do such amazing things with Tony Stark?s character since David Michelinie and Bob Layton gave us the ?Demon in a Bottle? story arc. We are getting treated to a double sized issue with Iron Man #28. I?m sure that we are in store for another exciting read. Let?s do this review.Creative TeamWriters: Daniel and Charles K...
