Johnny vs Borat
2008-02-27 22:42:00
According to you, the readers of this site, Johnny Depp should've won the Oscars for best actor. Now, I can't be too angry with DD Lewis, as he is a massive talent, for which I fell in love deeply and irrevocably in the heartbreaking drama The Age of Innocence, where he dug big time Michelle Pfeiffer, but he wouldn't had his ways with her because he was faithful to his kleptomaniac wife, Wynona Rider. Man, I was so rooting for DDL and Michelle! Anyway, I haven't seen There will be blood, but I'm sure DDL's worth every single penny and much more.Back to Johnny. He is truly outstanding in the funny macabre musical Sweeny Todd , but no one expects less of him. The entire movie is hilarious and intelligent, uplifting and scary. I'm sure you know by now it's about a barber who whacks his clients, giving them "the closest shaves they ever had". Ha ha ha! Sure, Johnny is a little Scissorshandesque, with the mad hair and the blades, but then again, we're talking Tim Burton here. And...

Eclectic philippics as if I'm talking to a psychiatrist, which I never had
2008-02-26 20:19:00
So I did sleep last night. I woke up at 1 pm, which is unheard of for me. The house was a mess, Toni had a supper last night with his friends and he left everything dirty and disgusting. Sabrina went berserk and we both had a bitch talk with him. Actually, it was more like me supporting her, because I was in such a great mood that not even the full sink of greasy plates, the dirty table and the general smell of cigarettes left overs could bring me down. Then we went to have a coffee down under, there's a new coffee place that opened while we were away, at the ground floor of our building, next to the giant Bob Dylan billboard. I talked to her about me wanting to get a tattoo, and she has a tattoo artist friend that will make me a cool one and will charge me next to nothing. I'm so looking forward for this, I'm a tattoo virgin. I want something outrageous! Sabrina has about 37 tattoos, so she's the right person to get advise from. Then I went to the gym. It seems that I sort of lo...

I just want to sleep
2008-02-25 23:01:00
Shitious day. The whole day rain didn't really uplifted my mood. Neither did my sister's acute mental problems. I need to distance myself from all these. Bottom line: a wasted day. But tomorrow I'm going to the gym and start to write again. I really missed my routine. I don't think I mentioned it, but I ended the second part and now I'm about to begin the third. I was in a bit of a crisis, as I made some ch-ch-changes in the story line, which I thoroughly planned a year ago. But the time spent back home helped me find the best way to continue the plot, and I am so excited to start writing again. Sabrina gave me a pair of red sandals from Buenos Aires. I'm deeply moved by this girl, she is so considerate, nice and caring, she's such a beautiful surprise to me. I mean, we just know each other for a few months, but I feel she is someone you can trust with your life. Actually, so is Toni, but since he is a guy he comes with the regular package of irresponsibility. On the other ha...

I don't know
2008-02-24 17:21:00
I'm in the airport, looking to board. I'm not sure how I feel about leaving this place again. Someone asked me if it seems like going home or leaving home and I honestly don't know how to answer that. I'll probably know better when I arrive in Barcelona.Last night I've done the unforgiven. I got together with an ex bf of mine. I mean, nothing serious, just fooling around, but it was totally unnecessary. I have quite a ridiculous history of backsliding with this guy, shit ... I thought we got over it. Look, it's not like I'm wondering now "what if" or anything, but the warm and familiar taste of someone you know for a long time is my weak point at this moment of my life. And there is something intriguing about him. No matter how many cigarettes he smokes and how many drinks he mixes, there is a unique and unconfounded taste and smell of his own. Like very ripe figs.Anyway, since in a few hours I'm thousands of miles away, I'll just put this silly thing in the vault and throw...
Homie girl
2008-02-22 10:41:00
Well, I'm almost a week home and I feel I've never really left it. The homie girl personality took over the world wide roamer, who's sqeezed now inside the dark dungeoun of my subconscience with her mouth covered with duct tape. It feels good though...I did the right thing coming here and recharge my batteries. If I ever felt alienated, now I have the antidote. I realized how much I missed my friends and how right everything seems when I'm with them. They helped me regain the sane perspective on my life that I might have lost somehow in the whole process of reinventing myself in a totally diffrent environmet. So there you have it, Gabs, aarite? Then of course, enter parents, brother, granma, cousins, uncles, aunts and all, who were all over me, studying and staring thoroughly, to identify any behavioral change than can be catalogued as foreign habits. Apparently I'm the same boring self. Guess that's good news. I had a long and disturbing conversation with my mom, who is sort o...

Best v-day ever!
2008-02-15 08:21:00
Yesterday's V-day evening was the best and most romantic I've ever spent in my life. I never thought I could find true love at just one corridor away.First, I prepared dinner. Various types of seeds actually, but hey, whatever does it for him. Then, while listening to me complaining about how difficult my work is, he helped me a little bit and shared with me his vast experience in literature writing. Thanks to him, now I'm on an juicy creative spree that will surely propel my future novel on the best sellers list in no time. Then, we exchanged gifts. He was so happy with everything I gave him, his warm eyes were covered in gratitude.Actually, too happy. He truly loved them! Thanks for the wonderful time, Kuki!I finally found someone who can understand me, respects my needs, cares about my problems and shares the same values with me. *hope this one stays*
Yay!

Oh, Indy! I've been waiting for you to return all my life. This is the best v-day gift ever! I missed your corny jokes, your outrageous courage and manly dignity, your quirky sense of fashion and of course, that good-old uplifting music. Harrison darling, you still so do it for me! In fact, as a tribute to your long awaited comeback, my new pick-up line will be "Hey han, are you solo?"Love,M

2008-02-14 16:41:00
I'm almost done packing my luggage for tomorrow. I got gifts for everybody, although, maybe I'm paranoid, but I suspect most of them are not even half excited for my arrival. Going home after a long time away is quite tricky. Weather I like it or not, I'll be confronted with the inexorable truth of the possibility that my friend are not exactly "my" friends. It's like, I don't know if it ever happened to you, but sometimes when I'm depressed, I imagine that I die and I can see who shows up and who misses my funeral.Man, this really gets me depressed. After three months and a half I got so attached to this place. I feel like home here. It pains me to leave it now, ever for a little while. I'm gonna miss everybody here, my quiet afternoons in front of the computer, my playing with Kuki, my playing stupid songs on the synth, my silly house mates, who lately revealed to me as super great buddies. Xept for ol' Gregg, of course, the one who never showers. And then it's the cold we...

Back to civilization!
2008-02-12 16:07:00
I'm hooked with our new internet/ digital tv / telephone deal. For the last three months I didn't watch TV at all. Because, you see, the tv in spanish is quite shitious, all movies are dubbed, if you're lucky enough to have any movie, cos most of the time there are stupid shows with celebrities dancing and stuff like that.I never thought I would miss television, but zapping the channels gave me a worm fuzzy feeling in my stomach. And then came CNN. I tell you, the weather forecast jingle almost made me cry ... oh, the sweet memories. By the time I reached VH1 I almost had an orgasm. Almost. Geri Halliwell was on. So not my type, although I envy her abs.Talking about abs. My new culinary resolution appears to work just fine. I tried on some jeans I couldn't wear last months because of obvious reasons, and they fit now! Very well, I might add. Sure, I still have a lot of weight to lose, but I really feel I'm on the right track. It's all about math, y'all. I eat less calories ...

2008-02-11 20:06:00
Everything's been quite quiet lately. Sun is shining, birds are singing, flowers blooming and the pink elephants are flying. Today, the new internet contract finally arrived, so we have the fastest speed ever. It's so fast, it makes me dizzy!I took Kuki in my room for a few days, just for him to chance the scenery a little bit. He seems to love it here, he's very playful and making quirky noises. Also, he eats better. Friday I'm leaving for ten days, so I'm a little bit worried about Kuki. Sabrina wont be home until the end of the month, so the guys will have to feed him. I might have mentioned once or twice they're not exactly the most reliable people. Actually, no later than today, Toni told me he's rather let Kuki free in the city, knowing he'll die in two days, than keep him here incarcerated in his cage. While he was cooking himself a nice big juicy beef stake. I can't stand hypocrites. Poor Kuki, I feel for him, I really do, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't make th...

2008-02-07 23:35:00
Following my sort of break down yesterday, over my incapacity to overcome overweight, I took a long hard unmerciful look at the content of my meals and in-between-meals and I realized the inconvenient truth: I eat the wrong things. Because I've never counted calories before, I wasn't aware that some aliments, who seem so candid, are actually an explosion of calories and fats. (Check it out for yourself on calorie count site.)Therefore, until further notice, I will forbid any of these foods to get close to my stomach:- cheese- fries- eggs- butter- bread- sugar- salt- cookies- biscuits- chocolate- coke- mayo- peanutsThe list is open.Basically, I won't eat anything that doesn't contain a large quantity of fibers. Such as: fruits, vegetables, cereals with skimmed milk.If this doesn't work, I'll have to take it to Naboo, the Enigma.Today, after a rather embarrassing incident that made it very clear to me that if I don't lose weight pronto I'll be socially excluded for the rest of...

Have you ever had the impression that no matter how much you strive, the results never show up? I don't know, maybe i'm in a pessimistic state. But the fact remains that I work so hard, I'm putting myself out there, I give the most I can.I believe it all comes from the gym class. I go there almost everyday, I do all those impossible exercises, I sweat like a pig and ... nothing. I look just as fat. Wasn't it suppose to work? It's been a month and a half now, where are my results? At least by now i could see some improvement! And I eat less and less everyday, which I know it's totally unhealthy, but I need to do something, this is making me ill. All my life I used to be so fit, and now I can't control my weight even with the heavy artillery. Then it is the book. I write and I write and I write, and I still don't seem to get anywhere near the end of the second part. There are four parts. I have to strive better, I don't want to spend all the year looked in my room. When I deci...

The good, the bad and the beginning of the month report
2008-02-02 11:55:00
You guys, it's been three months since I arrived here in Barcelona, and I want to make a bit of an evaluation of my time here. I will do it monthly from now on, just to be able to follow my evolution, or lack of.1. Rooms: two. One month in the house in Raval, with the annoying yet talented hair-stylist roommate. Two months and counting in a seventh floor apartment in Eixample, with three roommates. We didn't really hit it on from the beginning, but they're starting to grow on me. Toni, the Italian photographer/ actor/ musician, Sabrina, the loveliest Argentinian girl with 87 tattoos and a chinchilla, and Greg, the French whatever he does.2. Roommates: as I said before, they're starting to grow on me. Sabrina is going to Argentina tomorrow, so I am the chosen one to take care of Kuki, the Naughty Chinchilla. In order to prepare myself for this outstanding task, I have been re-watching thoroughly the first series of The Mighty Boosh, you know, the one set in the Zooniverse. I wish...

Across the universe: revolution with strobbery pie and a sentimental heart
2008-01-31 20:31:00
I've just seen Across the Universe , the love & war musical on the Beatles music. Let me tell you right from the beginning that it's one of those films that after they end, you just want to go back and see it all over again. It is a beautiful, heartbreaking yet hopeful story told in a powerful cinematic image and iconic songs, that everybody can relate to. Don't get put off by the word "musical" you cynical people out there, I promise you that you will surprise yourself singing along (until the person near you gives you "the look"), tap your feet under the seat, laugh out loud, get all emotional and forget about the rest of the world for about two hours."Across the universe" has the power to give you a new faith in mankind, it makes you wanna take the entire globe and hug it in your loving arms, call everybody that has ever done you wrong and tell them you forgive them and you love them, go back home and reevaluate your life on a grander scale, because all of sudden you realiz...

Hero of the day: mr. George Clooney, messenger of peace
2008-01-30 14:50:00
Look at him, it's his first mission in his new role as UN messenger of peace, with special emphasis on peacekeeping! He is in India, talking with big international organization about maintaining peace, Darfur situation and important stuff like that. Apparently, he is very modest too, because he stated "I do not want to talk, I want to listen first", being a novice and all.My heart is full of joy and love for humanity! We are all one big family, brothers and sisters, living in harmony, respecting and supporting each other, sharing our knowledge, wealth and passions with no boundaries. Thank you George , for making it so right! Now Bono, you have to come up with something better!

With Oxford Murders, Elijah Wood defrodolized himself
2008-01-29 11:01:00
Thanks to my fascination with LOTR (along with so many others), I will probably watch all its major characters' real life career development in whatever films they deem to grace with their presence. Except for El Viggo, who I met a long time before, when he was a poor painter and clandestine lover of one Gwyneth Paltrow, the wife of a very rich and vindictive fellow by the name of Michael Douglas. You know, that Hitchcock remake, Perfect Murder. He won my heart forever.Hence, The Oxford Murders, a movie done by a Spanish director, señor Alex de la Iglesia, with none other than the artist formerly known as Frodo, aka Elijah Wood . Let me tell you something right from the beginning: my worst fears were scattered. Phew!Elijah is a talented actor, who made me believe in his character, a young American student who went to Oxford to meet his mentor, a renown mathematician, played by John Hurt. Also, he proved beyond reasonable doubt that he does not, in fact, have hairy feet, nor pointy e...
Back and forth the block, please be true!
2008-01-29 10:40:00
Yep, apparently the rumors are true. The New Kids on the Block are about to make their come back. And why not, they're probably asking themselves, Take That did it, Spice Girls did it, hell even Back street Boys did it. NKOTB is the quintessential boys band, they were first, and now they want to be the last.As for me, I have nothing against it. Just one condition: they keep the hairdos! There's no way I'll take them back without those 'dos. Ok, I may have been too young to be around the first time, but this year, I better see the dudes on the street giving up their shitious emo hair and do the New Kids. That'll be fun!The one with the bandanna is Marky Mark, isn't he? Oh man, I just can't wait! Too good...

Roommates, hookers, cereal killers and a book that doesn't write by itself
2008-01-28 14:54:00
The rest of the world being so busy as it is to go on with its things, thought I should stop taking note for a while and focus on my life, if I may call it that. Ok, where should I start? I'm just gonna enumerate stuff, in no particular order.1. Toilet: fixed, broken, fixed again, probably breaking soon.2. Roommates: a short recap for those who couldn't be bothered to read the early stuff. Toni, the Italian photographer / actor / waiter. I don't know what to think about him still, yet he's the one I'm bonding with the most. I reckon he is profoundly unhappy, but I respect him for struggling so hard to achieve something. Whatever that might be. Last weekend we went together to the Juliette concert, me as a reporter and him as a photog. We spent about two hours talking. I told him I hated that he smokes and leaves the ashtrays all over the place. I'm not sure he'll change though. I tried to make him gossip about the other guys, but he was refreshingly positive about everyone. H...

LIVE: Juliette and the Licks
2008-01-26 12:41:00
Last night I saw Julie tte and the Licks live on the stage of Espacio Movistar, here in Barcelona. Let me put it this way, I have never listen their music before and I will probably won't again, but that's besides the point, cos I didn't go there for the music in the first place.Miss Juliette Lewis acted in most of my favorite movies, she's a girl that I'll always admire and respect for everything she does. Sure, she's crazy, but that's why I love her. She left Hollywood behind, with its Brad Pitts and Johnny Depps, and went to pursue a second career that was far more meaningful to her. I mean, you gotta give it to this girl, when she wants something, she's ready to make every sacrifice to get it. And I bet it wasn't an easy transition from the Princess of Movielandia to opening acts for hasbeens like Courtney Love and such, in second class joints somewhere in Hamburg or I don't know, Helsinki. Or Barcelona, of course. Starting from zero, with all the ridicule she might ha...

Eclectic philippics: Spring, shopping, a dog and Chuck Norris
2008-01-24 10:58:00
Yesterday I was walking on the street, minding my own business, which is going to the mall to do some discount shopping, of course, and baaam!!!, it stroke me. Spring is coming, y'all! Evidence: exhibit A, here. A blooming tree. Yes, I know it's january, you might call it a miracle, but it happens. Now, the image of a blooming tree can melt even the most wretched of the  hearts, don't you agree? It's the promise of the rebirth, the hope of a better future. Like, for example, I'm gonna have to work extra hard for those abs, who are reluctant to show up after three whole weeks of gym class. Wow, come to think about it, this puts a lot of pressure on me! Shit! Back to shopping. Yesterday it was the birthday of  a friend who recently got his heart broken by a mean woman. Had to go. We bought him a Simpsons clock. Marge and Homer doing the tango. I mean, who doesn't like that? He has a huge terrace on the top of his building. We stayed there all night, eating chocolate and whip-cr...

Are you testing my love?
2008-01-24 00:43:00
Dear Viggo Peter Mortensen Jr., What are you thinking? Are you trying to pimp a new look? And if yes, what might that be, voivode chic? We might have something here, because you know, Vlad the Impaler, in his golden days, gave a new definition to sex-appeal. [insert dirty impalement joke here]. Or maybe you are preparing for a new role. We know how serious you take your work, like those months you spent alone in Russia, to understand the mentality of the russian people. Could it be for, according to imdb, The Road, a post-apocalyptic tale of a man trying to get his son to safety? Because it's certainly what it looks like. But answering to my question in the title: you will always be My King!

How the hell did it happen, Heath?
2008-01-22 23:52:00
I can't believe what I'm just reading on CNN site. Heath Ledger is dead!!!How the fuck did it happen? He seemed to be so together! Sure, he recently divorced his wife and he went around wearing funny hats, but I thought it was because of the Joker role in new Batman.Damn it, i'm so upset. I'm fucking crying!!!This guy will always have a special place in my heart for singing "You're just too good to be true" on a stadium in 10 things I hate about you. He was just perfect in that movies, he really made me enjoy my teenage years. They say it's drug overdose!!! Why, why, why? Heath, your life was just perfect, why did you have to screw it up.I'm so profoundly sad.

Atonement, or the unintended sin who comes to haunt you for the rest of you
2008-01-22 21:16:00
I am the quintessential movie lover. I like all sort of movies, good movies, bad movies, profound movies, shallow movies, comedy movies, serious movies, horror movies, ridiculous movies. I'm non-discriminative.  That's why I want to share my opinion about the recent Oscar nominated film, rest assured, with no spoilers, I'll be professional about it, and please feel free to join in and debate, whether you agree with me or not. You're welcome! I'm gonna start with Atonement , as it is the most recent one I have seen. As I said before in a previous post, I will not mention again No Country for Old Men, as my personal boycott for otherwise respected Coen bros. They screwed it up this time.Atonement is a deeply moving story of a woman who has to live her entire life with a silly mistake she did as a child. It may sound boring, but it ain't. Director Joe Wright, the same who did Pride and Prejudice, managed to do the most outstanding job with this movie. I bet all my money in my po...
