Johnny Depp tired of living life in the fast lane
2008-01-28 03:05:00
Hollywood star Johnny Depp has revealed he’s tired of living life in the fast lane. The ‘Sweeney Todd’ star, 44, famed for his wild partying in the mid 90s, has given up driving fast cars and now lives “calmly” in France with partner Vanessa Paradis and their two young children. The 44-year-old star said: “I’ve have always liked speed - now I like comfort. We all go through stages of wanting fast cars and bikes. I was no different. Who wouldn’t want a Maserati? But I also wanted to ride in style, or with a bit of history. To get there and to enjoy the journey.“I have learnt to grow up and still enjoy myself. I spent a lot of years living on the edge - everyone knows that. So it is good that I now live calmly and happily.”Johnny, who spent his childhood moving around with his mother, also revealed he now finally feels settled.Johnny said: “I have never felt more rooted anywhere. I have never been in one place, like this, where I do feel completely at home. Los Ang...

Johnny Depp Mulls Heath Ledger's 'Imaginarium' Role
2008-01-28 02:53:00
Written by Chris McKeown Saturday, 26 January 2008Due to the sudden and unexpected death of star Heath Ledger, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus had to be put on hold. Having already shot most of the footage for the film, director Terry Gilliam has been stumped as to how to keep the film in budget and on time, with a new star stepping in for Ledger. Now, according to one source at the studio, quirky Johnny Depp is considering the role. And the best part is, most of Heath's work would be retained because "There is a point in the film when Heath falls through a magic mirror [and] he could change into another character after that...It's a weird, fantasy, time-travel movie so Heath's character could easily change appearance. It would be a poignant moment."Keep watching this space for an official announcement regarding Depp and Doctor Parnassus.Source: Sci-Fi Updates

Dillinger's wish will be Depp's reality
2008-01-28 02:30:00
BEFORE MICHAEL Mann and Johnny Depp wanted to make a movie about John Dill inger, John Dillinger wanted to make a movie about John Dillinger. This was June 1934, near the end for the notorious criminal. Dillinger was hiding out in Chicago. Two months earlier, he'd escaped an FBI raid at the Little Bohemia resort in northern Wisconsin. His gang's girlfriends had been brought to jail in Madison. Now in Chicago, Dillinger, his accomplice Homer Van Meter, who'd been with him at Little Bohemia, and Louis Piquett, Dillinger's attorney, were pondering alternative revenue streams.Piquett, born and raised in Benton, a small town in southwestern Wisconsin, was a flamboyant Chicago attorney. He had been a prosecutor until his indictment on corruption charges, which were eventually dropped. Now he was advising the most infamous murderer and bank robber in the country. Piquett had a brainstorm: a Dillinger tell-all on film.Van Meter said: "I'll give out a message to the youth of America!"Dilli...

Sweeney Todd Interviews
2008-01-25 05:11:00
Depp, Burton on musical slasher.by Orlando Parfitt, IGN UKUK, January 23, 2008 - IGN recently attended the European press conference for Sweeney Todd and got to hear the thoughts of stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and the younger cast, as well as director Tim Burton and producer Richard Zanuck. The event itself, held in a swanky London hotel, was full of journalists from all over the world, and featured some seriously strange questions. The most bizarre was the Irish journo who asked Jayne Wisener (who plays Johanna in the film): "So, you're from Derry right?" She was. "Well, my cousin owns a pub in Derry, the Old Crown, have you ever been there?" She hadn't, and will presumably steer well clear of the place from now on. Very Strange. Anyway, here's what the team thought about Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - out this Friday in the U.K.Johnny Depp - Sweeney ToddHow was it doing your first musical? And will you be doing it again...

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton talk about working together
2008-01-25 05:08:00
Paul KentJanuary 24, 2008 12:00amACCORDING to Tim Burton , there once was a time when he would have to convince studios to let him cast Johnny Depp as the star of a musical.‘‘We're now at the point where they'll give him the lead role in a musical and they don't even know if he can sing,'' Burton says.‘‘Nothing gets more surreal than that. It's fantastic.''It's no surprise Burton uses Depp's stardom as yet another punchline.Their byplay is never-ending.The two have been trading off each other, both professionally and privately, for years now and it's been nothing but a joy for both.Depp plays the title character, Sweeney Todd, in Burton's film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's hit Broadway musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.Despite the challenge of bringing a musical to the screen, neither saw any reason to lighten the mood or tone down the bizarre humour.‘‘I think Tim only asked me to sing so he could get a good laugh,'' Depp says.‘‘...

Depp: I cringe when I'm on screen
2008-01-22 22:36:00
Johnny Depp has revealed he cringes every time he watches himself on screen and hasn't even seen his latest movie yet. Talking ahead of the UK release of musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, the actor said he had yet to see the finished version. "Just thinking that I'm in it, I cringe. I feel uncomfortable watching myself. "I love the experience, I love the whole creative process and partnership. "But actually seeing the finished product if I'm in it, that's always a problem for me." It's the sixth time Depp has worked with director Tim Burton, who had wanted to make a film version of the musical ever since seeing it as a student. The musical has taken $48m (£24.6m) in the US and won a Golden Globe for best musical or comedy. Depp's performance also earned him a gong for best actor in the same category. Musical double-act? Not the most obvious musical star, the modest actor said he had not even taken singing lessons for the role. "I probably should have, bu...

By Rito AsiloPhilippine Daily InquirerFirst Posted 00:32:00 01/19/2008“Sweeney Todd: TheDemon Barber of Fleet Street”D: Tim BurtonS: Johnny Depp , Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Sacha Baron CohenMANILA, Philippines—How far would you go to avenge the loss of your family? For Sweeney Todd, the answer is easy: Till the last drop of his blood—literally! With “Sweeney Todd,” this year’s worthy recipient of the Golden Globes’ Best Picture in a Comedy/Musical, visionary director Tim Burton expands his foray into the movie-musical genre—which began with 2005’s acclaimed animated gothic romance, “Corpse Bride”—and delivers a brilliantly realized albeit compressed big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s popular 1979 stage musical. The darkly brooding, unapologetically bloody musical couldn’t have fallen into better hands!Set in 19th century England, the production follows the story of barber, Benjamin Barker (played to tragic perfection...

Johnny Depp's Gift
2008-01-17 01:38:00
Johnny Depp secretly visited Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday to donate £1 million (that's nearly $2 million) of his own money to thank staff for saving his daughter’s life. He arrived unexpectedly at the London children’s hospital where eight-year-old Lily-Rose was treated last year when her kidneys failed. Last week he invited five Great Ormond Street doctors and nurses to the party for the London premiere of his film Sweeney Todd. And on November 29, unknown to the public, Depp spent four hours at the hospital telling bedtime stories to patients dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow after having his Pirates Of The Caribbean costume flown over from Los Angeles. *From the Johnny Depp WebWay to go Johnny!

Johnny Calls Golden Globe Win ‘Humbling’
2008-01-16 14:51:00
This post came from the Johnny Depp Web (Thanks again Guys) “I would like to thank my beloved friends at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for bestowing such an honor on me. It is a humbling experience, especially in the company of such talent. For many years the HFPA has supported my work and for that I have always been truly grateful. While this is indeed a happy day for me, I am overjoyed at the recognition the film as a whole is receiving. TIM is a dear friend and a true artist whose vision and skill inspire us all. He is a genius. Without his unwavering trust and support, I would not be anywhere near where I am today. Also, big thanks and respect to HELENA, whose simply staggering performance as Mrs. Lovett is a wonder to behold. I must send a behemoth salute to the wonderful crew and cast of ‘Sweeney Todd’ and all at Dreamworks/Paramount and Warner Bros. Pictures. In addition, I’d also like to extend my sincere gratitude to, first and foremost, my cherished frie...
