Fishing For Trout - With Bait
2008-02-13 19:10:00 When it comes to fishing for trout, in my humble opinion, there is no better method than using bait. When I refer to the word 'bait', I'm referring specifically to live bait. There are many types of trout bait, including synthetic versions that come in jars, but for my money there are no trout baits as good as live bait. Especially when you're talking about fishing in the flowing water of a small river or stream.Using live bait for trout in small rivers and streams isn't only extremely effective; it's also a ton of fun. For me, there's something about standing up to my waist in flowing water, attempting to catch trout, that makes me feel complete. And there's no better way to get a trout to bite than with bait.As far as trout bait is concerned, I believe there are few baits that are effective as the good old live worm. Live worms are extremely effective as trout bait, and if you have a few tools, such as a bait bag and gang hooks, fishing for trout with bait becomes extremel... More About: Fishing
Using Powerbait For Trout Fishing
2008-02-13 19:08:00 A question that comes up a lot for anglers new to trout fishing is how to use Powerbait for trout fishing. Let's begin by defining the term "Powerbait". When I refer to the word "Powerbait" I'm referring to any synthetic bait that comes in a small container and is molded onto a hook as bait. Synthetic baits like this are made by different companies, and the only important thing, as far as catching trout is concerned, is that your synthetic bait floats.Using Powerbait for trout fishing is really quite simple. There are a few things that can be done to tip the odds into your favor though. The first of these things is to make sure that your using light fishing line. We are talking about fishing for trout, which means that the water that you're going to be fishing in should be fairly clear. Couple this with the fact that trout have very keen eyesight, and the bottom line is that you should be employing light fishing line. I suggest four-pound test monofilament. The next tip is to make... Bass Fishing Basics - Best Baits For Bass Fishing
2008-02-13 19:07:00 Bass fishing is a really popular sport that can be enjoyed by anyone with the knowledge of a few Bass fishing basics. All species of Bass are some of the most sought after fish, as they are great fun to catch, and offer some of the best sport, both from the shore and from a boat. One of the first Bass fishing basics to learn will obviously be the bait. This can be live bait such as peeler or soft back crabs, these are really fine baits for Bass. A crab is a peeler when it is in the process of losing its old shell, (to test if a crab is a peeler, try lifting the rear end of its shell; it should come away easily). A crab is a soft back when it has already discarded its old shell but before its new shell has hardened.Other good Bass fishing baits include sand-eels, lugworm, and rag worm. Sand-eels can be collected from wet sand where they lie buried on a receding tide. They can be used as a dead bait but are more effective as live bait. Both lugworm and rag worm can be dug at low tide a... More About: Fishing , Bass , Basics
Fly Fishing In Rivers For Steelhead Straight Forward Information To Get You
2008-02-13 19:06:00 Fly fishing for steelhead really is no different than any other kind of fishing once you learn the basics and start expanding on what you have learned you will be out there catching Steelhead and be hooked just like the rest of us.Selecting your Rod and ReelIf you're new to the sport of fly fishing I recommend that you use the KISS system (keep it simple system). You need to select a rod and reel that will handle these large and sometimes very aggressive fish. That means you should use a heavier rod 7/8 or 8/9 weight rods are a good choice you can use the 5/6 weight but you will need to know how to effectively manipulate these larger fish therefor for the beginner I recommend going with a heaver rod. Rod length depend on what type of river you plan to fish longer rods allow you to make longer cast but are sometimes hard to use along the river bank if there is any amount of brush trees ect along the bank.Selecting A ReelYour reel choice is a matter of personal preferences match it w... The Art of Fishing For Stripers
2008-02-13 19:04:00 If one is an appreciator or aficionado of freshwater fishing, one is likely to be familiar with "Striper Fishing ." Striper fishing is a fisherman's dream come true, as it is the pinnacle of fine freshwater fishing. This is so due to stripers bountifulness on the Atlantic coastline and their anadromous nature. Anadromous fish are fish that live mostly in sea waters, yet have the instinctual need to travel inland toward freshwater regions solely for breeding purposes.Saltwater Fish In Freshwater WatersSo, in essence, anglers fishing for stripers are fishing for saltwater game fish in a freshwater environment. Stripers are even known to act like saltwater fish, such as tuna or bluefish, as they school and feed as saltwater fish do in open ocean waters. From this, the experience of fishing for stripers is like no other, truly. Despite losing the prospect of reeling in an actual saltwater style lunker, fishing for stripers in locations such as rivers, bays, inlets, estuaries or creeks w...
January Fishing Tips for the Northern Gulf
2008-02-13 19:03:00 January brings us into full swing of winter weather patterns. Frigid temperatures leave you with fewer options when it comes to fishing the Orange Beach area. The gulf is typically great for red fishing! Look for the hard north winds to lay the beach waters down slick as glass! Fishing the birds and bait are a great way to catch bull reds!Another option is to fish the Perdido Pass area. The sheepshead are beginning to congregate around the jetties and bridge for their annual spring spawn. Look for these fish to bite around tide changes. Live shrimp, Fiddler Crabs, and Sand fleas are great baits to entice a sheepshead bite! With warmer weather between the fronts, look for some slot sized redfish to periodically show up around the bridge, jetties, and piers close to the pass! The inshore reefs in Bayou St. John and south of the Intracoastal Waterway will typically produce some big numbers of white trout and the occasional speckled trout! The final option is to head north! The creeks an... More About: Tips , January , Gulf , Northern
Sailfish Fishing
2008-02-13 06:03:00 A great place to go after sailfish is not too hard if you pay attention to many of the great anglers. Of course, finding them for yourself requires a keen eye for the habitat in which the sailfish strive. One such place is located of the Florida coastline near Fort Pierce, where in 65 feet of water, you can find the breeding grounds for a great number of predators as well as bait fish along the series of reefs.By November however, the waters become too chilly for the sailfish since the temp can drop below 70 degrees with ease. But do not fear; just go out a little further to where the water get between 150 and 120 feet deep and there is another great set of reefs which is known to have one of the largest concentrations of sailfish in the area.It is in this area, which is located roughly 8 miles off from Fort Pierce in which you will find the locale that is known as the 8 mile. Here, the warm Gulf Streams push a great number of not only sails and other predators, but bait fish as wel... More About: Fishing
The Fishing Rod vs Vehicle War
2008-02-12 18:45:00 As an angler, your fishing rod is obviously a valuable tool that needs to be maintained and protected. This means keeping it from the clutches of the predator known as your vehicle.Long ago in a parallel universe, a war was instigated between two groups that has leaked over into our world. The two groups, of course, are the fishing rods and the vehicles on wheels. Get the two in the same basic area, and bad things seem to happen. The fishing rod and car or truck are natural enemies. The fishing rod is generally considered an inanimate object, but anybody who loves fishing knows this is simply not the case. Lean a fishing rod up against a vehicle and what does it do? It leans to one side until it begins to fall. This, of course, leaves a nice scratch down the paint of the vehicle. Score one for the fishing rods!Your car or truck is no better. A natural predator of the fishing rod, it has evolved to create no end of angles where your rod can be bent, snapped or crushed. A classic is th... More About: Fishing , Vehicle
You Have To Love Winter Steelhead Fishing
2008-02-12 18:44:00 I had been planning this fishing trip for a week and thought I would let you know just how it went I'm sure you will all enjoy this. I woke up at 6:00 AM had a cup of coffee and went out to start my truck it was snowing and the road had about 8" of snow on it but since I had my heart set on doing some steelhead fishing I decided to go ahead with my plans. After I loaded my fishing gear and filled my thermos I headed out the door to find the snow plow coming down the street it pushed a berm of snow right up to my bumper. Went back to the garage and got a shovel I spent the next hour digging out the drive way so I could get out. I then back out of the drive way and went to far and got stuck in the berm of snow on the other side of the street. Spent the next 20 minutes digging the d_ _ _ truck out. Still determined that I was going fishing I head out to the Salmon River in Riggins, Idaho this is normally about a 30 minute drive however do to the snow and all it took me well over a hour... A Beginner's Guide To Trout Fishing
2008-02-12 18:43:00 For those of you who are new to trout fishing I figured I'd write a quick article titled, a beginners guide to trout fishing, to give you some simple and basic trout fishing tips that will help you be more successful. It isn't very different from any other type of fishing (obviously) but there are certain simple things that can be implemented to tip the odds into your favor.I've personally been fishing for trout for more than twenty years, and learned from an angler that was someone I consider to be a trout fishing master. This man (who I refer to as my fishing mentor) was a highly successful trout angler, and some of the simple tips and techniques he developed/used will most certainly help you on your journey. The first thing to keep in mind in reference to trout fishing is that light gear should be employed. Actually, in a perfect world, ultra light gear should be employed. When I refer to gear, I'm referring specifically to your rod, reel, and line. So ultra light rods and ree... Carp Fishing
2008-02-12 18:42:00 My first REAL fishing experience was over sixty years ago . We had moved into a new house and our next door neighbor, a guy called Jeff, just out of the army after the second world war, asked me if I would like to go fishing with him and his mate Joe who worked in the local colliery. The only "fishing" I had done till then was catching newts and tadpoles in a nearby pond, I did not even own a fishing rod. I had noticed Jeff loading his tackle onto his bike most evenings in that summer and could not wait to go with him.We went to what was known locally as a Marl Hole, all I know is that it was a small lake that I think had been formed when some sort of disused quarry had filled with water. I watched as Jeff and his pal sorted out all their tackle and throwing lots of mashed up stale bread into the water. It was not long before they were catching fish which I was told were a variety of roach, rudd and bream, nothing big but quite a few of them. Jeff let me hold his rod and sure enough... What Is Fishing?
2008-02-11 23:20:00 So what exactly is fishing?Fishing is the activity of hunting for and trying to catch fish. Fishing is and ancient and worldwide practice with various techniques and traditions. To some degree fishing has even become a sport. Tournament anglers that make a living fishing would obviously argue that it is a sport.Where did fishing originate?Fishing can be dated back to the Mesolithic period which began about 10,000 years ago. We know from archaeological features, discarded fish bones and cave paintings that sea foods were important for survival and consumed in significant quantities. Fishing may even pre-date the development of modern humans, although there's no way to know for sure. The ancient river Nile was full of fish. Many early fishing methods for fishing were clearly illustrated in tomb scenes and drawings found within Eqyptian tombs. By the 12th dynasty, metal hooks with bards were being used. Nile perch, eels, and catfish were among the most important fish in the region. Th...

Fishing For Trophy Trout
2008-02-11 23:16:00 For anyone who has been fishing for trout for a while and is familiar with a particular body of water (river, lake, or pond) there comes a time when catching "average" trout simply isn't cutting it. Eventually, we want to catch trophy sized trout out of these bodies of water that we are so familiar with. In this article I'm going to give you some tips and tricks that will help you in fishing for trophy trout. For clarity, when I refer to the phrase 'trophy trout', I'm referring specifically to trout over twenty inches. When trout grow to sizes of twenty inches and above, I consider them to be trophies. If this sounds small to you, you don't fish for trout very much, because I promise you trout twenty inches and larger are big (and a challenge to catch). The first thing to keep in mind in reference to these large trout is that they became trophies for a reason. They didn't grow to be as large as they are because they are stupid. This means that things like hook sizes, line diame... More About: Fishing , Trophy
