Where To Fish On The Clearwater
2008-03-09 06:51:00
Some fishermen are uncomfortable fishing a large body of water without knowing where to fish. The Clearwater River in Idaho seems to be one of those spots where they look at the size of the river and just think they will be wasting their time since they do not know where the steelhead will hold or what sections they seem to travel. They may be intimidated by the size of river and want more information on just where they should fish. For those who are new to the sport I can see why they may be confused as it is quite a large river and if you are not custom to reading Steelhead water it will be intimidating. So for those wanting to know where to fish let me give you some ideas. If you want to try fly fishing the section just above and below the US Highway 95 Bridge has produce well for me in the past. If you are going to be wading be aware that the water level can change suddenly as there are two hydro dams up steam, keep this in mind when wading.Should you want to try some drift fishin...

Crab Fishing in Alaska ? Fishing for Riches
2008-03-08 06:30:00
No it isn?t Bill Gates. It isn?t the diamond merchants of South Africa or the oil barons of Saudi Arabia either. The world?s highest paid job is crab fishing in Alaska . The frigid waters off the Alaskan shoreline house a veritable fishing goldmine and crab fishing in Alaska has been aptly dubbed the last great gold rushes on earth.Crab fishing is the most significant of the Alaskan commercial shellfish industries. The waters of Alaska, notably the Bering Sea, Bristol Bay, Dutch Harbor and the Kodiak and Aleutian Islands are home to rich bounties of crabs: tanner, Dungeness and the famed Alaskan King crab. The different varieties of the Alaskan crabs possess immense commercial value and the Alaskan King crab in particular is a prized dish in the culinary world, valued as highly as caviar or vintage French wine. US and Japanese restaurants are the primary importers of Alaskan King crab in the world. An idea of the valuation of crab fishing in Alaska can be garnered from the fact that a ...

Winter Trout Fly Fishing
2008-03-07 19:22:00
It is winter time now. One step on the frozen porch steps first thing in the morning removes any doubt of that fact. Winter time brings on many thoughts, holidays, dark afternoons, football on TV and for me some of the best trout fly fishing there is. That's right trout fishing, winter steelhead fly fishing has been around a long time, and gets more popular every season. But the truth of the matter is trout fly fishing can be excellent, the crowds are down to non-existent, the scenery and wildlife are plentiful, and it makes those long days of early spring with non-stop rain and overflowing rivers more tolerable. When to go:Winter fly fishing demands a little timing and planning on your part. One nice thing is, the weekends aren't crowded, so you really don't need to ask the boss for time off, to really get some peace and solitude. But other planning does need to be done. The first thing is checking your local regulations. Many, many places now offer year around trout fly fishing....

Largemouth Bass - Sight Fishing for Spring Success
2008-03-05 17:02:00
During the spring, bass fishermen can have a blast fishing in shallow water. Not only can you catch some big bass in water less than 5 feet deep, but you can actually see these fish in the shallows. Two of the most important things that you can do to increase your odds of catching bass while sight fishing is to get a good pair of polarized sunglasses and a good trolling motor. No matter how well you think you can see through the water without glasses, you will see more fish and more importantly, you will spot them faster with polarized sunglasses. Polarized sunglasses help to block the light that is reflected by the light's surface, which allows you to see through the water better. Make sure you have a trolling motor to help you cruise along the shallows quietly. In some fishing tournaments, there have been some bass fishermen that have started using long poles like you would see among saltwater flats fishermen. These poles aren't necessary, but they will help you move along the s...

Tips For Planning Your Next Fishing Trip
2008-03-04 15:56:00
There is nothing more rewarding than waking up early in the morning to go fishing. There is no better way to welcome the day than rising at the crack of dawn to get to the bay before the other fishermen and weekend travelers have arrived. Grab your spouse, your children, or a friend, along with your poles and bait and prepare yourself for a memorable day enjoying the beauty of the rising sun and the melodies from the morning birds. The anticipation of reaching the bay will keep everyone alert and excited about having had to rise so early in the day.Fishing on a sunny morning with your loved ones is much more rewarding than sitting at home watching re-runs on the television set. It might be difficult to convince your spouse or child that waking up before the sun has risen is supposed to be fun, but once they are outside and close to the water, they will be convinced. Promises of a homemade picnic will also encourage them to join you on your fishing expedition. Be sure to use your vac...

Canada Walleye Fishing
2008-03-04 03:44:00
Fishing for walleye doesn't get much better than in Canada . There are so many fishing resorts and outposts on so many different lakes and most of these lakes have excellent walleye fisheries. Some anglers prefer going to Canada to catch the big northern pike and muskie, but they usually release these fish and keep the walleye to eat. Walleye aren't going to give you the fight that a big northern pike will, but walleye are easy to fillet, they taste great and once you can find these fish, they aren't too tough to catch. Crankbaits, jigs and live bait are usually all you need to catch walleye. If you intend to plan a fishing trip to Canada and you'd like to catch plenty of walleye for the dinner table, make sure to do your research. While most lakes have plenty of walleye, there are many factors that will dictate how well you do on your trip. If you plan a drive-in trip, take a look at the resorts, where they are located on the lake, what types of boats they give you access to and ...

Sport Fishing Boat - Can It Be Inflatable?
2008-03-03 02:49:00
There are many anglers in the world who would love to have a sport fishing boat available to them, but the cost of such things can be astronomical. A wonderful way to circumvent the high price of fishing boats is to give inflatables a shot. Now, before you get upset for me considering an inflatable boat to be a sport fishing boat, take a minute and hear me out.The first thing to keep in mind is that when I refer to 'inflatable boats', I'm referring to quality inflatable boats. A sport fishing boat can be inflatable, as long as it's a quality inflatable boat. So, how do we go about finding a quality boat? There are a few things to keep in mind to insure that the boat you're looking at is a quality boat. Keep these tips in mind, and you'll be all right. The first thing to look for is a guarantee. The manufacturer that you purchase from should stand behind their product with a money back guarantee. In other words, if you try the boat out and decide that you don't like it, you sho...

The Grouper Fishing Tactics That Work Best
2008-02-29 15:50:00
When angling for bottom fish, grouper fishing is the most popular sport fishing in the western hemisphere. Because there are so many different types of grouper, fishing for them can be good all the way from the New England states, through the Gulf of Mexico, and down to Brazil. You'll find red, yellowfin, black, gag, and Warsaw grouper to choose from along many coastal regions, and it's rare that there is no abundance of the species. However, beware of the strength and cunning of these fish.First, you must know a little about bottom fishing, and then plentiful grouper fishing opportunities will follow. Start with a fifty-pound test monofilament line. This will handle just about any grouper that you can possibly encounter. Anything larger becomes a hassle and is also a bit too visible to your target fish. Use a terminal tackle - a sinker, leader, and hook configured with a bank sinker on the end of the leader and a 12-inch-long loop tied abut 18 inches up from there onto which the ...

Falling Hook, Line, And Sinker For Alaskan Fishing
2008-02-24 19:08:00
Gap years are becoming increasingly popular with those aged anywhere from 18 to 32 years old. It's not just a year between school and university, when uncertain teenagers, on the brink of adulthood, take time off to travel and experience different cultures. Many young people take gap years after university, before entering the work world, as a final fling, away from responsibility and the prospect of paying tax. Gap years are also on the rise among those experiencing career crises, who are disillusioned with their current jobs, and take time off before settling into something new. One of the more interesting and dynamic gap year options is to head off to Alaska to be a part of the lucrative fishing industry.Gap year opportunities in Alaska are relatively rare. But non-residents take 57% of the jobs in the fishing industry, so your chances of a successful application are good. Why Alaska? Why fishing? Alaska doesn't sound like the most exotic destination in the world, and it has a ...

Fishing For Trout - Tips & Tricks
2008-02-22 19:39:00
Fishing for trout, here's a subject that it seems like many people write articles about, yet don't have a clue what they're writing about. Trout fishing, at least as far as larger more experienced fish are concerned, it a fairly technical activity. There are certain tips and tricks that should be employed, all of which will dramatically increase your catch rates. This article is about those tips and tricks.More than 20 years ago I had the pleasure of fishing with and learning from the best trout angler I've since known, and most of these tips were taught to me by him. He was renowned in the area of Central Pennsylvania where I grew up as being a "trout fishing master". And I must admit, he had the mounts on the wall to prove it!The first thing that this man insisted on when fishing for trout was the use of ultra light gear. By 'gear' I'm referring specifically to your rod, reel, and fishing line. In his opinion, nothing larger than ultra light gear should be used for this typ...

Fishing With Your Kids Is Not Really About Fishing
2008-02-21 02:20:00
I was invited to speak to a men's group recently. The dramatic monologue was entitled "Lessons from the Creek Side". It was more about the lessons that children learn while fishing. More character and life lessons are learned in one day of fishing than in any other activity. There are 21 specific lessons in a day of fishing. The list includes Patience, Problem-Solving, Respect for Nature, Cooperation with Others, Dealing with the Unexpected, Self-Sufficiency, Rewards for work, and 14 other valuable lessons dealing with character and life. For instance, he showed how fishing helps one develop a respect for nature. "There are laws that guide what size fish we can take home. If a certain fish is too small, you release it to grow bigger, spawn, and continue to be part of the ecological balance. When you release it, you try to do no harm while removing the hook and gently reintroduce it into the water. This insures that it will live and thrive." Another lesson is one in honesty and respe...

Swimbait Fishing
2008-02-19 19:31:00
Sometimes the best trick to catch a bass is one of the oldest, which is to give them something they have never seen before. A lot of times this can accomplished by using a bait in a way that it was never intended to be used.So the question that comes to mind is Swim-baits. They do so well in 3 out of 4 seasons, but then the 4th season, winter, they have never been tested until just recently. Originally it is to be used in a traditional manner in which you would let it sink, reel it in a bit then let it sink some more. The trick with Swim-bait during the winter when the water is cold is to let it sit upright with its tail pointing up towards the surface of the water. This is usually accomplished by slightly overweighing it so that you can still use it in a traditional manner of reeling then letting it sink. In this case however, the bait is kept in a horizontal position during the entire time. You also want to make sure that the bait is in constant contact with the bottom of the lake, ...

Ice Fishing Rod Holders Prolong The Enjoyment Of Ice Fishing
2008-02-18 21:02:00
You probably know the feeling of enjoying a day on the ice with your buddies, sipping hot tea and sitting on a bucket while anticipating the next nibble. It can be so disappointing when you realize you have to end the day early because your ice fishing rod holder is causing you discomfort, or even worse, breaks altogether.Rod holders are such valued inventions because they allow an angler to free their hands while fishing. Rather than having to stand all day holding your rod, alternating from side to side, you can actually have a holder on each leg. Some holders will even allow you to jig the line without needing to bend over. You just move your foot up and down and the line will move too. This is great for mature fisherman especially, because the least you have to bend over, the better. The shape and molding of the rod holder should be designed for your comfort and maximum rod support. You could have the most comfortable strap on the market, but if the other parts aren't fitting and...

Gulf Coast Snapper Fishing
2008-02-18 00:23:00
Finding you own bait, is not supposed to be a challenge at all, but unfortunately, sometimes it is just that. One of the biggest issues with fishing for pinfish is the snappers than snag up what was supposed to draw the pinfish. Now many people see this as a problem since they are trying to catch bait and not a snapper. But this is not about pinfish or even baitfish, this is about snapper. All along the Gulf Coast , snapper is popular. Many restaurants are named after various snapper species. From chum line fishing to using those pinfish mentioned earlier, fishing for snapper can be a very fulfilling day, and what's even better, is when the day over, and you get that snapper home and cooked, it just makes it all worth while.Snapper can be found almost anywhere up along the coast line, but especially down near the mangroves at the everglades. Also near by, you will probably find a plethora of other species including the ever popular grouper, but just remember that when fishing, if you ...

How To Fish For Rainbow Trout
2008-02-17 02:09:00
In this article I'm going to reveal some tips and techniques that will teach you how to fish for rainbow trout. Rainbow trout are a very popular species of fish that area lot of fun to catch. This is especially when it comes to native rainbows. It has always seemed to me that native trout are much harder fighters, and any experienced trout fisherman will tell you that native rainbows are much more beautiful than their genetically altered, stocked cousins. When I use the word 'native' to describe trout, I'm referring to trout that have been born naturally or at least have grown up in the river, stream, or lake that you're fishing for them in.Now that I've completed my rant on native rainbows versus stocked (or planted) rainbows, let's get down to the business of how to fish for them. The first thing to keep in mind is that light rods and reels should be employed for trout fishing. As a matter of fact, I personally use ultra light rods and reels, but nothing heavier than light ...

2008-02-16 06:15:00
There are two common types of fishing reels used in bass fishing and understanding a little about each one will help you make a decision on which to use depending upon the type of fishing you will be doing out on the water. It is also important to know what is best when you begin to learn bass fishing because it can make life a whole lot easier.Spinner Reel s - These reels are most commonly used by beginner anglers and recreational bass fisherman because they are very easy to use. The spinner reel mounts at the bottom of the fishing rod and has what is known as a "bail" that hold the line in place. Fly Fishing Basics For The Struggling Beginners
2008-02-15 07:20:00
Fly fishing is a wonderful pastime and not too difficult once you know a few basics. In this article, I'll give you some easy tips to improve your experience.OK, we all know what the basics are when it comes to fishing. You have a rod and a line and something to attract the fish. But you need to know a little more and only a little, to start fly fishing. You see, compared to other forms of fishing, fly fishing is beautiful, simple, creative and elegant - like the poetry of the fishing world. This is because instead of using live bait and dropping it in the water and waiting for a bite, fly fishing involves using an artificial lure that looks like a fly, yes a fly!You cast the fake fly and then flick it above the surface of the water so that, to the fish, it looks just like a juicy piece of food! All sorts of things are used to make the fly such as ribbon, string or hair. The casting process is also unique to fly fishing. You don't just flick the line out as far as you can and slowly...

Trout Fishing Strategies
2008-02-13 19:14:00
More than 20 years ago I had the pleasure of learning how to fish for trout from someone I consider to be a 'trout fishing master'. I consider him to be a master because of the fact that he caught trophy trout out of rivers and streams in Pennsylvania, that most anglers thought trout of that size didn't live in. He spent a lot of time on the water fishing for trout, and had many strategies and techniques that other anglers didn't employ. This man is gone now, but many of the trout fishing strategies that he taught me live on.The first thing he believed in was using ultra light gear when fishing for trout. I'm talking about four foot rods and very small reels, spooled with four pound test monofilament. Many anglers consider gear this small to be some sort of "ice fishing" equipment, but it's what he used to catch all of his trout, trophies included. I've been using ultra light gear myself ever since this man taught me these strategies, and I wouldn't use any other equipment f...

Smallmouth Fishing Tips

For anyone who likes to catch Smallmouth Bass this article - smallmouth fishing tips - is for you. For the past twenty plus years I've enjoyed catching the mighty small mouth bass and in this article I'm going to reveal some tips that have helped me catch a lot of fish. Many of these tips relate to fishing in small rivers and streams, simply because that's the kind of fishing I enjoy. The first thing to keep in mind is that the smaller the gear you use, the more fun fishing for smallmouth will be. These fish are renowned for being extremely hard fighters, so it only makes sense that the smaller the gear, the more of a challenge catching these fish will be. I personally like to use ultra light rods and reels, spooled with four-pound test monofilament. The length of your rod will vary with water conditions, but for me ultra light rods and reels make smallmouth fishing much more fun.The first tip I have is for larger rivers and even lakes. Using top water baits such as poppers, jitte...

Alaska Fishing Jobs - Salmon Processing The Perfect Summer Job for College
2008-02-13 19:11:00
For years and years college students around the U.S. have flocked to Alaska for summer jobs in the seafood processing and fishing industries. The first place that workers new to Alaska look for work is at a salmon processing plant. Onshore seafood processors are always looking for workers in the summer months, from June to September. The work is hard but there are perks to being a processing plant worker in the Alaska fishing industry.Onshore processing plants are located in coastal towns and villages such as Ketchikan, Homer, Petersburg, Cordova, Naknek, and Valdez. Wherever salmon are harvested, there will need to be a place to process them. Many of these processing plants are in a remote area, meaning there are no shopping malls or other big-city amenities. The plus for cash hungry college students is that scenery is second to none and there are few places to spend hard-earned summer money.During the summer salmon are harvested in huge numbers thanks to Alaska's supererior fishe...
