As Team Kakashi continues their search for Sasuke, Naruto suddenly collapses due to his previous injuries. As Naruto recovers, Sai begins to reveal more about his brother but Orochimaru attacks. Sakura and Yamato come to Naruto's aid to defend against Orochimaru, while Sai continues the search. As Sai finds Sasuke, Yamato finds Sai's bingo book with Sasuke listed as a target for assassination. Episode 44: The Truth of the fight

Captain Yamato uses the first hokage's chakra to suppress the demon fox's chakra and Naruto returns to normal, but with severe injuries. Sakura heals him and in the mean-time Sai talks to Orochimaru and gives him a letter from Danzo. Sai then leaves with Orochimaru and Kabuto but Captain Yamato´s wood clone stays close on their trail. Episode 43: Sakura's tears

Sakura begins to have flashbacks of Naruto when he was normal. When Kabuto speaks of Naruto to doing so many things just to bring back Sasuke, Sakura's flashbacks are about him stating his promise to her. She begins to cry after thinking about it. Sakura tried to get Naruto to stop and return to what he once was. But it has no effect on him and she gets injured when his attention is on her. Yamato uses the wood to bound and bind Naruto before he does anymore harm. When doing so Kabuto goes towards Sakura but is blocked by Yamato. He merely states that he is simply going to heal her and does so. Naruto returns back to normal after Yamato uses his chakra of the 1st Hokage. Episode 40-41: The Nine-Tails unleashed - Top-secret mission starts

Immediately after Yamato signals Naruto and the others out to the bridge where Orochimaru and Kabuto are waiting, Naruto's chakra begins to boil with the chakra of the Nine-Tailed Fox. Slowly, Naruto grows more tails as Orochimaru taunts him and makes him even more angry. Meanwhile, Yamato thinks of when Jiraiya was speaking of how many tails he has seen Naruto grow up to. He explains more about what happened and more about how Naruto acts when he's in his Kyuubi form. Naruto continues to get even more enraged, and Kabuto attempts to attack him with his hand. However, Naruto just knocks him all the way to the back of a tree, and Kabuto also hits Sakura in the process, knocking her out. Orochimaru continues to watch Naruto become more enraged. Naruto eventually destroys the Bridge of Heaven and Earth, making Sakura slide off in the process. Yamato tries to save her, then Sai makes his escape off of a bird he draws on an empty scroll. Episode 39: The Bridge of Heaven and Earth

Yamato disguises himself as Sasori after creating a wood replica of Hiruko, and goes to meet the spy. The spy turns out to be Orochimaru's right-hand man, Kabuto Yakushi, who reveals the location of Orochimaru's current hideout to Yamato. Orochimaru interrupts the meeting, appearing to attack Kabuto, and while it initially appears that Orochimaru has come after Kabuto, Kabuto attacks Yamato and reveals that he is truly loyal to Orochimaru. Naruto is paired with Sai for the Buddy team of two, over his and Sakura's objections, while Sakura is assigned to support Yamato. They start a training simulation to test Naruto and Sai's teamwork, which ends poorly, as after Naruto makes a mistake, Sai abandons him and goes on to capture Yamato alone. Naruto is angry with Sai for not acting as a comrade would, but resolves to work together with him if doing so will help bring Sasuke back. Sai reveals to Sakura that he has no emotions, and little understanding of them. The group then prepares to head to the bridge. The new team Kakashi heads out for the Heaven and Earth bridge. Sai, Sakura, and Naruto come to blows after just 5 minutes on the same team due to Sai making fun of Sasuke. Therefore, Yamato decides they need to improve on teamwork and also displays the first signs of his ability to use Mokuton to create a barrier threatening to lock the team up unless they behave. He takes them to a hot springs to get them to know each other. Naruto still despises Sai despite this effort. Several insulting remarks from Sai worsen team relations. Sai and Naruto still can't get along and the situation worsens when Sai makes insulting jokes towards Naruto. Sakura sees Sai drawing by the river and finds out that Sai has artistic talent but has never given titles to anything he ever drew. Naruto is angry about his new team. Yamato then explains that he is acting as Kakashi's interim for the team, and that Sai is a part of it. Sai explains to Naruto that he was just gauging how strong his new team member was when he confronted him, and that he still thinks Naruto is weak. He then angers Sakura by calling her a name as well. The team is off to gather their belongings before they set off, and Yamato sets off to meet with Kakashi. Jiraiya then appears in Kakashi's window and gives him two volumes of Make Out Paradise. Kakashi realizes that this wasn't the real reason he showed up, and Jiraiya tells him that he is going to brief Yamato on Naruto. Sakura gathers her belongings, and runs to meet with Tsunade before she sets off. Tsunade then says Sakura has good timing, and they go up to her office. After Team Guy members finish their battles, they make their way to Team Kakashi . Sakura and Chiyo also make their way towards Naruto and Kakashi. Kakashi reveals his Mangekyo Sharingan, which he uses to warp space around Deidara, hoping to suck him into an alternate dimension. However, he only succeeds in catching Deidara's arm, severing it. Kakashi's second attempt fails when Deidara dives into the trees. While Deidara has his guard down, Naruto manages to separate him from his clay bird, having his clones take the beak, which contains Gaara's body, to safety. Naruto, meanwhile, launches a vicious attack on Deidara, only to discover that he is beating up a clay replacement. In his angered state, Naruto's fox chakra begins to emerge. Lee, who refuses to accept defeat, realizes that the only way for them to defeat their clones is to become stronger than they were when they first started fighting. After a flashback about their training sessions, they all remember that they resolve to constantly become stronger. Sasori is barraging Chiyo and Sakura with fire and water, forcing them to hide behind rocks. He then attempts to kill Chiyo with his blades, but Sakura pulls him in and punches him, shattering his body. Instead of dying however, Sasori's broken pieces come together and reform. To deal with him, Chiyo summons the Ten Puppet s of Chikamatsu. In reponse, Sasori takes out his final one hundred human puppets. Sakura and Chiyo hold their own against Sasori's puppets, destroying many in the process. Chiyo then gives Sakura a chakra-sealing orb, which she throws at Sasori. The orb then transforms into a giant maw that pins Sasori into the rock wall, preventing him from using chakra. Just when they though the battle was over, Sakura sees Sasori rise behind Chiyo, preparing to land a sneak attack and stab her with a sword. Episode 25: Three minutes of life and death

Sakura reveals that she took an antidote against Sasori's poison which will make her immune to it for three minutes, forcing herself and Chiyo to end the battle quickly. Meanwhile, Naruto and Kakashi continue their pursuit of Deidera. Deidera attempts to split up Naruto and Kakashi by creating a swarm of explosive jumping spiders out of his clay and has them pursue Kakashi. Kakashi makes a shadow clone as a decoy and the spiders, mistaking the shadow clone for the real Kakashi, detonate harmlessly. Kakashi then catches back up with Naruto and reveals a plan. Sakura and Chiyo continue their battle with Sasori, while Naruto and Kakashi follow Deidara, and Team Guy fights their clones. Sakura remembers her training with Tsunade when she was taught to observe an enemies' weakness and dodge their attacks. Sasori attacks with an Iron Sand pyramid and prism, but Sakura is able to fend them off, causing a cave in. Sasori then uses an new technique to attack with randomly-growing iron spikes, landing a hit and poisoning Sakura. With a final attack of the Third Kazekage's puppet, Sasori attempts to kill the weakened Sakura, only to find that she still has the strength to shatter and destroy his puppet. Using teamwork, Chiyo and Sakura are able to dodge Sasori's attacks and demolish the puppet, from which Sasori himself emerges.
