Matthias Hues and Cynthia Rothrock are back in action for Dracula 2013
2012-05-12 16:18:00
90′s action stars Matthias Hues (I Come in Peace) and Cynthia Rothrock (No Retreat, No Surrender 2) get together for a mini-version of The Expendables in the horror thriller Dracula 2013. The release date is some time next year, obviously. Pieces of a Nazi World War II submarine are recovered off the coast of Eastern Europe by a group of Marine Archeologists. Inside the sunken sub, a secret compartment is discovered that contains the presence of an ancient evil that was once part of a plot so sinister that it could only be conceived by an occult fallen empire on the verge of defeat. A wealthy German war veteran has taken a personal interest in the package that lies within the sub and hires a group of rogue mercenaries, the best money can buy, to retrieve a coffin and the remains of the most diabolical leader in the history of mankind to conduct a genetic DNA mutation to bring forth a plan that was to take place seven decades ago, a failed mission that would have changed the ...

Exclusive: Midnight Show is a love letter to trashy cinema
2012-05-12 02:15:00
It really is awesome what you can find while surfing the net. Case in point, the absolutely beautiful poster below for the film Midnight Show . I got in contact with Newt Wallen, who is the producer of this exciting new project, and he told me that this is going to be a celebration of 35mm film. “We are in production. My web series is the jumping off point. It took the shows exposure to get people to take me serious. Then I started out gathering talented filmmakers to produce content. Each director shooting fake drive in and grindhouse trailers or pre show bumpers. Stuff from 50′s monster movies to 70′s disco sci-fi romance to 80′s arcade set teen sex comedies. All this is wrapped around a night out at the movies and all the cliches that go into going to the theater.” Source: Killer Film

The Road – Review
2012-05-11 12:00:00
Part I: 2008 – Three teenagers get lost taking a joyride down an old desolate road, one that has been boarded up in hopes of keeping a three decades old murder a distant memory. Their short cut down takes them into the unknown, a pitch black stretch that is only illuminated by the headlights on their car, that is until another vehicle passes them by, sans a driver – a ghost car. The evil machine sidles up next to them revealing a figure with a bag over its head, with blood splattered inside. Getting frustrated by not finding a way out, they try by foot, and run smack dab into the wreckage of the car that was haunting them, with the charred remains of someone who is reaching out for help, wanting to release their trapped soul from purgatory. Part II: 1998 – Two sisters seek help from a troubled young man after their car breaks down on the road. He takes them back to his home and takes them prisoner after knocking them out. The disheveled abode is a true house of hor...

Fear and paranoia seep from every wall in this tense and creepy psychological thriller from the producers of The Ring and Dark Water. Plagued by eerie echoes of the dead trapped in the building, Bobby’s terror mounts as he begins to suspect his neighbors had a sinister hand in his mother’s death…and could come for him next.

The Queen helmer to direct biopic on Queen frontman Freddie Mercury
2012-05-11 00:41:00
While nothing is in writing, it appears that The Queen helmer Stephen Frears is the frontrunner to direct the Freddie Mercury biopic which focuses on the band’s formative years leading up to their triumphant appearance at Live Aid in 1985. Though it would be a downer, I really wish the script included Freddie’s life from the year he found out he was HIV positive – 1987 – to his death in 1991 – because it showed his bravery as he kept working to the very end and was a real trooper. Here is a look back at my Queen of Film tribute. Source: Variety

Poster: Early artwork for the Silent Night remake
2012-05-11 00:12:00
Coming this Christmas season from Anchor Bay is the “loose” remake of the notorious yuletide slasher Silent Night , Deadly Night. Below is some early artwork that definitely shows that Saint Nick means business. It’s a snowy Christmas Eve in Cryer, Wisconsin. The normally quiet town is bustling with activity as the residents are getting ready for the big day. The events take place around the town’s annual Santa Parade, which has brought a record number of Santas to town. Deputy Sheriff Aubrey Bradimore (King) is stuck reluctantly working the night shift, dealing with all of the drunken Santas, road closures, and stressed out locals — but things are about to take a deadly turn. A vicious serial killer, dressed as Santa Claus, has made his own “naughty list”, and anyone on it is in big trouble. As the body count rises, Aubrey races to discover the killer’s true identity – but in a town full of Santas, shady characters, and dark secrets, finding the re...

Blu-ray: Supernatural shocker The Entity
2012-05-11 00:07:00
Or maybe it should be called The En-TIT-y for its infamous rape scene of actress Barbara Hershey. For some reason, I don’t own it, so maybe I’ll just snag up the Blu-ray on July 3. Carla Moran awakens one night to find herself being beaten and raped by an unseen presence. Terrified of what’s happening to her and shunned by friends and family who think she’s lost her mind, she seeks help from parapsychologists. The researchers soon discover that an evil spiritual force has been drawn to Carla and is responsible for the violent attacks. The question now, however, is how do they stop it? Based on a supposedly true story. Source: Dread Central

Gary Busey Bloopers and Outtakes from Piranha 3DD
2012-05-10 17:58:00
Piranha 3DD will be in theaters and on demand on June 1. The cast is batshit crazy, and none more so than Gary Busey. Enjoy! After the terror unleashed on Lake Victoria in “Piranha 3D,” the pre-historic school of blood thirsty piranhas are back. This time, no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of summer’s best attraction, The Big Wet Water Park. Christopher Lloyd (“Back to the Future”) reprises his role as the eccentric piranha expert with survivor Paul Scheer (“The League”) and a partially devoured Ving Rhames (“Pulp Fiction”) back for more fish frenzy. David Hasselhoff trades in the sandy beaches of “Baywatch” to be a celebrity lifeguard at the racy water park. Prepare for double the terror, double the action and double the D’s in this sequel also starring Gary Busey (“Lethal Weapon”), Katrina Bowden (“30 Rock”), Danielle Panabaker (“The Crazies”), Matt Bush (“Adventureland”), Chris...

The Shrine – DVD Review
2012-05-10 15:09:00
The Film:  One of the most frustrating elements about being a horror fan and getting older is that it gets harder and harder for a film to genuinely scare me. When I reminisce about my younger days, there were a number of scary offerings that got under my skin and stayed there. Granted, as a kid, it did not take a whole lot to get me to jump out of my seat, but there was cinema that was simply unnerving. To this day I try my best to not watch them with the lights out because they have all aged like fine wine and still give me goosebumps. Carrie, The Exorcist, The Changeling, Don’t Look Now, and The Shining have stood the test of time by keeping the horror predominantly off-screen and playing with man’s inner phobia of the unknown. It is hard to pull of correctly, as evidenced by the drought that has set in the last ten years or so. As Dan Aykroyd said in Twilight Zone: The Movie, “Do wanna see something really scary?” Aside from Kairo [Pulse] and Ju-On [The Grudge]...

Mother’s Day – Blu-ray Review
2012-05-09 15:32:00
The Flick:  Now that every suit in Hollywood has boarded the remake train, there is a steady flow of unoriginal material surfacing on theatre screens everywhere. Most of them are nothing more than shells of the original that miss the mark by miles, but every now and again a remake, or re-imagining as some like to call them, kick as much ass, if not more than the original. Darren Lynn Bousman’s take on the classic horror flick Mother’s Day is one of these. It not only does justice to the source material it takes it into new territory and in some ways trumps it. The story doesn’t waste any time getting to down to the nitty gritty. Beth (Jamie King) and her husband Daniel (Frank Grillo) are a couple dealing with the recent death of their only child, and a crumbling marriage. They have friends over for drinks while a raging tornado is threatening to unleash all sorts of hell on their neighborhood. Only the tornado is the least of their worries, because the Koffin fa...

Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace show a lot of Passion for Brian De Palma
2012-05-09 00:39:00
Brian De Palma is currently lensing his new thriller, Passion , and we have the first image, a soon-to-be red-lipped smooch between Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace. An erotic thriller in the tradition of “Dressed To Kill” and “Basic Instinct”, Brian de Palma’s PASSION tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé Isabelle is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… Christine takes pleasure in exercising control over the younger woman, leading her one step at a time ever deeper into a game of seduction and manipulation, dominance and humiliation. Trailer: A deep-fried NC-17 Rated look at Killer Joe
2012-05-09 00:19:00
In theaters on July 27th is Killer Joe , the latest film from director William Friedkin. With Bully, Shame and Killer Joe – it would appear the NC-17 rating is not as feared by studios as it has been in the past. When 22-year-old Chris (Emile Hirsch) finds himself in debt to a drug lord, he hires a hit man to dispatch his mother, whose $50,000 life insurance policy benefits his sister Dottie (Juno Temple). Chris finds Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a creepy, crazy Dallas cop who moonlights as a contract killer. When Chris can’t pay Joe upfront, Joe sets his sight on Dottie as collateral for the job. The contract killer and his hostage develop an unusual bond. Like from a modern-day, twisted fairy tale, “Killer Joe” Cooper becomes the prince to Dottie’s Cinderella. Based on the play by Pulitzer and Tony Award winner Tracy Letts, “Killer Joe” is a garish, proactive black comedy from Academy Award-winning director William Friedkin (The Exor...

Haywire – Blu-ray Review
2012-05-08 16:07:00
The Film:  Steven Soderbergh is back with a movie that feels closer to home for fans of the director than his last few films. Haywire is fun, intelligent, engaging, and subtle all at the same time. It is a much needed breathe of fresh air after Contagion which was pretty much just intelligent and subtle. In Haywire the man who brought us the Oceans 11 movies returns with a very similar formula. If you are a fan of the Oceans trilogy, like me, then you will enjoy Haywire. The plot fits into the common genre that would include a kick-ass highly trained protagonist, black ops missions, and some variation of a frame job. The difference is that your typical male bad ass is replaced with a sexy, super talented Gina Carano who plays Malory. This is Gina Carano’s first major showcase on the big screen after her career as a dominating Mixed Martial Arts fighter, and she leaves a solid impression. One could easily say that she did not deliver the best acting performance, but Gina e...
