Paula Abdul Caught Crying on Tape
2007-06-01 06:00:00 Just when we thought all the AI drama was done for the year, a Paula story surfaced on The Posts's page 6. Here is the link: http://www.nypost.com/seven/05312007/goss ip/pagesix/pagesix.htmBasically, it sounds like she was speaking with a new rep and dissing her old one. She did a lot of crying about how her former rep mistreated her, called her a loser and bitch, and made her go on Jimmy Kimmel by herself. The juiciest part of it all was that we find out she never tripped over her dog Tulip but actually threw a glass against a wall and a piece cut her nose. The article also states that she suffers from Addison's Disease an endocrine or hormonal disorder that sounds pretty horrible. Possibly why she always appears tipsy- maybe she needs painkillers or the weakness and fatigue affect her speech. Anyway, it all sounds pretty sad. It's like Paula is a lost little puppy crying out for someone to love her. Throwing glasses, lying about dogs, and crying that she is always the victim s... And the Winner Is.....
2007-05-24 04:42:00 Jordin Sparks! How many of you, like me, Tivoed only to miss the announcement of the winner? Mine cut off right after the Sargent Pepper montage. Then, I had to choose between cutting off my taping of the Lost Season Finale and seeing who won. I chose Lost. Luckily, my fellow AI bloggers posted the results immediately. Thank you to you all xoxoxo. There was one common theme I found in almost all the AI blogs I read tonight and the comments that followed. I concur with this theme entirely:"I don't really care who won."What happened? Why do we no longer really give a hoot who wins anymore? When did this happen? When Beau lost to Carrie I was livid. I remember swearing that if Ruben or Fantasia lost I'd stop watching. I almost followed through on the threat last year when Daughtry was voted off. But now, even though I voted for Blake for the entire hour that I watched Idol last night (again I tivoed so I could watch and vote at the same time), I really have no remorse about him losing.... Why I Am Not Surprised About the Melinda Vote Out
2007-05-17 07:24:00 I was not shocked when I heard that Melinda Doolittle was leaving Idol this week. It's not that I don't know that she deserved to win the competition, but looking back over the past seasons I think I see a pattern.Basically, she was just too perfect. She never had a bad week. Every song she did was utterly flawless. She had no personality quirks and always wore a smile. She did everything right. America doesn't like people like this. Just look at our past winners:Season One Kelly: Kelly had a great voice and I'd never take that away from her. But why did we really vote her to the top? I'll tell you why. It was because she was a real person and we related to her. She complained about being tired all the time, she was on the chunkier side, and she looked horrible without her makeup. When answering questions she answered them genuinely and we felt like we knew her so we wanted her to be successful. The obsession with hair really started this season. You had Justin in second place ... More About: Vote , Linda , Rise
When Disco Night is Boring You Know You're in Trouble
2007-05-09 16:52:00 Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees was the mentor tonight. Is it just me or is he on every year? I like him. He was very positive and I love the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack, but was he really right for this season AI? I don't think so. None of the contestants really sounded great in this genre. Instead of just Barry Gibb songs, perhaps they could have had them choose from 70's songs or disco in general, something more broad. I am really disappointed in how the producers have limited song choice this season. Not only does it put great limitations on the contestants (like last week when it was only Bon Jovi and most people do not sound good singing Bon Jovi) but it also lessons the likelihood of us viewers hearing a favorite song. And that's all I have to say about that. Melinda did Love You Inside and Out first. It was the usual Melinda. The same old voice inflections, the same old body language and facial expressions, the same old perfection. I was tired of it this week. The judges se... More About: Disco , Boring , Disc
Idol Elimination Show May 2
2007-05-03 07:56:00 So Blake is left with all the girls now, all the powerhouse gospel singing gals. It's kind of strange that we have three of virtually the same type ('cept Jordin has the young thing going on) battling it out for the title and then Blake, who is something we've never seen before on Idol .I was not surprised when Phil was the first person voted out. He got lucky it was this week so he could go out in a Blaze of Glory. He was gracious and does really seem like a nice guy. Surprisingly though, I didn't cry this week not even when they showed him with his baby daughter.Ryan refused to torture Jordin this week after what he put her through last week. You go Seacrest. It came down to Chris and Blake as to who was the second bootee. They talked about how they are BFF's, which seemed kind of corny to me being that they're both grown men. Chris said he'd gladly leave for Blake. Awww he's willing to sacrifice himself for Blakey. How romantic. It was a no brainer that Chris was going. I w... More About: Show , Elimination , Mina
Bon Jovi Night
2007-05-02 06:48:00 I had hoped Bon Jovi Week was going to be 80's Week or, even better, Hair Band Week. Turned out that was only a pipe dream. It was just what they said it was: Bon Jovi Week. The contestants could sing only Bon Jovi songs. Was that really fair to them? Bon Jovi has a very distinct style and not everyone can sound good singing Jon's songs. But it was what it was and, surprisingly, most of them did pretty well.Phil did Blaze of Glory to keep with his new cowboy identity I guess. Jon seemed to like him and so did the judges (except Simon who said it seemed like Phil was pretending to be a rock star). I thought it was pretty good. His voice wasn't too deep this time like it usually is.Jordin sang Living on a Prayer. It was a poor song choice. Even when I've seen Bon Jovi do this live it hasn't been great in my opinion. I think it's more of a studio song. Jordin has a great voice but it just couldn't show in this performance. The judges didn't like it either. Jordin even agreed wi... More About: Night
Idol Gives Back Results Show
2007-04-26 04:51:00 If you're anything like me, you probably went through a box of Kleenex watching this show. I usually cry when somebody gets sent home and realizes their dreams of super stardom may take longer than they hoped. So, needless to say, seeing children starving and people dying was more than this woman could bear. Which brings me to my question. Are philanthropy and American Idol two great tastes that taste great together?I'm glad they did this show. I'm sure that many idol fans are kids who live sheltered lives and need such a wake up call about the world. Ryan Seacrest and Ellen DeGeneres did an excellent job selling the idea to viewers. Ellen even donated a hundred grand of her own. By the show's end, they had raised about 30 million dollars. I pray the money and resources get into the right hands.Personally, I am all about charity work. I worked in nonprofit for years and if I weren't a wife and mother right now there's a good chance I might have joined the Peace Corp, seriously... More About: Show , Results , Back , Result

Idol Gives Back and Top 6 Perform
2007-04-25 06:22:00 The real stars tonight were the kids that were highlighted between segments. I hope everyone voted tons and that it will really make a difference to some of them.It makes me wonder why it is so expensive to adopt. It's usually between ten and thirty grand to adopt a child, especially from a foreign country. If only it did not cost so much, I for one, would be taking a child in so that they'd be well fed, have good health care, and most of all be given a real childhood and love. The story of the twelve year old boy who had to be man of the house for his siblings (their parents are dead) really got to me.Anyway, the contestants were to choose songs that inspire.Chris Richardson started the show with Eric Clapton's Change the World. As I was watching I thought to myself, "I am so over Chris this week." I thought his vocals were flat and I really didn't feel anything as I watched him. However, the judges loved it. Last week, and many other weeks prior, it was just the opposite- I th... More About: Back , Idol , Form , Perform
Elliott Yamin on Jimmy Kimmel
2007-04-24 18:37:00 Did anyone else catch Elliot t on Jimmy Kimmel last night? The kid's really a pro now. I was totally impressed not only by the songs and the vocals, but by his capture of the live audience as well. He just did phenomenal. Even when it was evident that sweat was getting in his eyes, he didn't miss a beat. (He was sweating like Studdard last night). I knew Yamin would be a success. I have got the get the CD!One thing I'm not so sure about is the hair though. I prefer the shorter style on him. I recorded it for you all but my audio was off. Luckily, musickimmel also posted it on youtube so kudos to them and thanks. More About: Elliott Yamin , Jimmy Kimmel
Video of Sanjaya Leaving Idol
2007-04-19 19:36:00 Thanks so much to djkick3 for posting this on Youtube!http://www.youtube.com/v/haC0Tia6 MQoIf you appreciate this as much as I do, leave him (or her) a nice, juicy comment ;)And yes I cried a little. I have to admit, by the time he left I was not a Sanjay a Hater. There were a lot of things about the kid I started to like, like his fighting spirit and his ability to entertain. But I still contend that he was the worst singer and like Simon says, "Its a singing competition." After Sanjaya finishes the tour and is free to do as he likes I know we'll see him on the cover of Bop magazine and maybe in the tabloids too partying it up somewhere. He'll have a record deal the instant he can get one and he'll be just fine.I suppose I have to tell myself all that so I don't feel so bad... To be honest, my heart sank a little knowing he was gone and seeing him wipe his poor little tears away, even though I have been wishing for it for so long. Guess the boy got to me too- D'Oh! Sanjaya Malakar on Lost!
2007-04-19 09:33:00 Sanjaya Mala kar did not have to wait too long to find work. Apparently, in an attempt for higher ratings, ABC replaced Desmonds's fiance, Penny, with Sanjaya and boy was the cast shocked.I've been writing a lot of fiction lately haven't I? Did I mention it was a man named Frank who told Seacrest how to plug the black hole and ensure Sanjaya's elimination this week? Rumor has it he used hair gel from his dressing room. Had he not done this, Sanjaya would have won American Idol and the world as we know it would have ceased to exist. More About: Lost , Sanjaya Malakar , Sanjaya , Sanjay
Sanjaya Eliminated- I knew it!
2007-04-19 04:30:00 I told you guys that the AI Universe had returned to normal. All is now right with the world. Everyone loves Melinda again and the Sanjay a bug that was infecting everyone has been vaccinated. As soon as he got all cocky the appeal was over, I think. Now on with the show! For those who are disappointed because they wanted the worst contestant to win, I am sorry. But hey, look at what a good, long run he had. You guys made that happen. There is always next year to ruin AI. And I hope VFTW does not try and take credit for this because they had Sundance down as their worst to start with, so if they had that much power Sundance would still be on the show. For those who are disappointed because they thought Sanjaya was really the best singer in the competition, the doctors say the delusions should fade in a few days, just trust me when I tell you he was the worst. Never fear though, I have a feeling his album (and he'll get a deal believe me!) will sell more than this year's winn... More About: Nate , Mina , Jaya
Top Seven Perform and the Planets Realign
2007-04-18 17:01:00 Something cosmic happened this week. The American Idol Universe, which had fallen victim to a giant black hole, was repaired and set right. As a result, the judges started judging again, Sanjaya went back to being the worst contestant on the show, and Simon told Melinda to wipe that fake look of surprise off her face once and for all.Martina McBride was this week's celebrity mentor for Country Week. This week was one of extremes. Either extreme happinessOr extreme disappointmentPhil Stacey started the show with Where the Blacktop Ends. It was the first time I had ever heard the song and I wasn't crazy about it, but he did really well. All three judges even liked him. Randy said we finally know who Phil is now and that this should be he genre. Phil agreed saying it is his genre. (It is? You're a country singer? Why didn't we know that all this time?). But anyway, he did great and he looked truly elated at the compliments. To ensure he was not too happy, Simon interje... More About: Planets , Lane , Seven , Real , Plane

Scarnato- Out!
2007-04-12 06:07:00 I'll try to make up for my lack of content last night....Ryan started the show being funny. I love when he is funny.Ryan: Who is going home tonight? (Long stare at Sanjaya)One of my favorite things about elimination night is the group performance. They were cute and adorable as usual (even when Haley and Sanjaya sang together completely off key).I also enjoy the Ford commercials. Seems like they highlight Chris in those things an awful lot. Watch it.Lots of Idol Gives Back talk. I didn't mind because we got to see more of Simon in Africa. One little girl drew a picture of him with boobies- how cute.To kill even more time, Ryan went to a farmers market in LA. (They have farmer's markets in LA?). He asked the same 4 or 5 people about different contestants. Most of them didn't seem too familiar with the show or the people on it. This guy liked the "big girl in red."Finally, we are down to the elimination. As usual Sanjaya wasn't in the bottom three (well why would he be? He actual... More About: Nato
Finally the Guys Outshine the Girls
2007-04-11 22:41:00 I'm still catching up from traveling for the holiday weekend so here is a really quick recap of last night:The kids worked with J-Lo. She was very sweet with them. The theme was Latin music.Melinda started off. Randy and Paula did their usual drooling but Simon said the performance was wooden. My opinion- she was good ,as usual, but since she was trying so hard to put the "sexy" into it, which was out of her comfort zone, the performance came out a bit less genuine.Lakisha was probably pumped that she might actually get to outshine Melinda this week in the judge's eyes. She did an upbeat song- Conga, I believe. I thought she did a great job but the judges met her pretty much with the same reviews that Melinda got.Chris was awesome. I absolutely loved it. He definitely has charisma and I loved the R&B feel he managed to give to a Santana song. Doesn't get much better than that for me.Blake was really good as well. He did a Marc Anthony song. I think this may have been the firs... More About: Girls , Girl , Final , Shine , Guys
Sanjaya and Paula Dance, The Judges Slack Off
2007-04-04 07:44:00 The judges seemed to be completely incoherent tonight, having almost nothing to say to anyone that actually required criticism. When they did criticize it was jabs at the good singers. The train wrecks got the "speechless" comments or critiques on their fashion sense. There were lots of awkward tongue ties and unfinished thoughts from Paul a (I thought she had gotten past that!). Simon just seems disenchanted with the whole show.Blake Lewis went first tonight with Mac the Knife. It was not his usual performance. There was no beatboxing or electronic remixes, just a little scatting at the end. To my ears, he pretty much stuck with the song. Although the judges said it was new and fresh, I didn't hear anything new or fresh from him tonight but I did enjoy his dancing in his hip white shoes. It was the first time I was indifferent to Blake this season. Still love him though and his voice was nice. He's definitely not the best singer in the competition but, for me, he's the best perfo... Sanjaya Malakar is a Cultural Icon
2007-03-29 07:45:00 It dawned on me tonight that Sanjay a Malakar is a true cultural phenomena. In case you missed the elimination this week, click here to get a quick pictorial recap. Bottom line, he's still there and was not even in the bottom three.Never before have we had a contestant on Idol that has been this bad. Past idol wannabes who were only a bit crappy never had such a dedicated fan base. Sure they may have squeezed by for a few extra weeks, but they always landed in the bottom and just squeaked by. Sanjaya is leaps and bounds from last place.I know the judges, particularly Simon, are miffed by this, but who is to blame, really? After all, the judges and producers are the ones who let him through to the Top 12 men. If you watch his original auditions, he was not all that good to begin with. Certainly, he was worse than any of the other Top 12 guys. So what was their reasoning in letting him through? I can only guess that maybe 1) they thought it was a cool story to let him outshine his sis... More About: Icon , Cultural
Sligh Gets Cut & Haley Sucks
2007-03-29 03:54:00 Ryan starts off the show with a joke. Does botox has adverse effects? He suddenly looks really old to me and that scares me because I think he is around my age. Yikes.Ryan starts his spiel telling people they are safe. When he got to Phil, Phil appeared confident and happy. But he was sent to the bottom three. Hale y joined him. Gwen performed. American Idol gives back blah blah blah. Then we get back to the show. It's down to Gina and Sligh. Sligh gets sent to the bottom three. Phil gets sent back to his chair- he's safe. It's down to Chris and Haley now and I find that I am praying for Chris to be safe.My prayers are not answered. He looks like he might cry.I said I wouldn't shed many tears and that I was okay if he left. I was wrong. I wept like a baby.He redid his song from last night and of course did it a thousand times better this time around. Chris the jester returned. He went and hugged everyone while he sang and he interrupted his song to tell Phil that he owes him $50. Th... More About: Gets , Suck , Sucks
Last Night's Photo Gallery and Some Take Backs
2007-03-28 19:27:00 I don't know what I was thinking last night when I was so hard on Lakisha. Watching it back today, she did a great job, as usual, and she looked great too. I think I was just bored with her for the moment. Chris Sligh still stunk and by the look on his face, he knew it.Gina deserved the smile. She did awesome.Oh Gawd, the peace sign picture is killing me. Sanjaya is either in on his own joke or he is starting to believe he is something he isn't. Not sure yet which it is.I still say it was good. I remain convinced that she'd be better off working in Disneyland singing for the children but I just can't find anything wrong with her performance last night. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing her leave tonight. Nailed it. I am starting to suspect Melinda of being a phony. Much like Pickler last year with her dumb hillbilly routine, Melinda is killing me with the shocked and scared looks she does every week when she is done singing. Of course, I still know she is going to win a... More About: Photo , Gallery , Take , Night , Last
Sanjaya's Mohawk and Everything Else
2007-03-28 05:34:00 Fabulous Gwen Stefani was this week's guest. She was very genuine and up front with her opinons on the contestants. The idols were to perform either No Doubt songs or songs by artists that influenced Gwen such as Donna Summer, The Cure, or The Police. My reviews this week will probably surprise you. They surprised me. I liked people I don't normally care for and was disappointed in many that are usually in my top picks.Lakisha Jones started off the show with Donna Summer's Last Dance. Gwen's comment on Lakisha was, "I should be taking advice from her." Lakisha sang great and got good reviews from the judges. Personally, it was just okay for me. I can't really explain why. Maybe I am getting bored with seeing her sing the same sorts of songs every week or maybe I just prefer the emotion in her ballads. I give it an "Ehhhh..."Chris Sligh- He did a great song, Ever y Little Thing She Does is Magic by The Police. Gwen said she hoped he would keep in tempo with the song since he fail... Bye Stefanie
2007-03-22 03:45:00 Well I didn't see this one coming. As usual, I am painfully out of touch with America. It's not that it's a great personal loss for me to lose Stefani e Edwards. After all, there are two other women who sing in the same genre and do it with just a smidgen more talent and a whole lot of more personality. Still, my sense of justice tells me that it was just wrong for her and Chris Richardson to be in the bottom two while Sanjaya, Haley, and Phil sat comfortably nearer to the top. But like I said yesterday, one has to remember that American Idol is not about being fair. It's about who the fans want to see more of. Apparently, they want to see more of Sanjaya and that is fine with me. I'll remain moderately amused seeing just how far he goes in this competition until he knocks out a favorite like Melinda or Blake. At that point I will become pouty like I did last year when Chris Daughtry left. Hey, if Sanjaya won I'd laugh my face off and my rebellious side would actually enjoy it,...
Who Won't Make Idol's Top 10?
2007-03-21 05:24:00 So, let's see. Who will NOT make it into the Top Ten and gain the status (and salary) that comes with the American Idol tour? I'm not 100% sure. My money is on either Sanjaya or Phil but I think Gina has a shot of not making the cut as well. Let's do a quick recap....It's always the guests that you never expect that give us phenomenal shows. See any AI episode that Barry Mannilow has worked on for proof. This week was no exception. Peter Noone and Lulu were chosen to bring out the best in the contestants for British Invasion Week and they did a hell of a job. Not to take away from their talent (or Mr. Mannilow's) of which I know they have much, but I think there is also a lot to be said for positive vibes and finding the best in someone. So far, I think the contestants have demonstrated the most confident and polished performances to date this week.Haley Scarnato- She has actually redeemed herself in the past two weeks by making some smart choices. She chose a song this week th... More About: Make
Brandon Rogers Gets the Boot and Some Cool Videos
2007-03-15 17:16:00 It came as no surprise that Brand on Rogers was eliminated last night. He seemed to take it well. It gave me hope that Sanjaya was in the bottom two along with him. As usual, instead of looking happy or relieved that he was safe, Malakar looked miserable and guilty. Haley did not even penetrate the bottom three. Instead it was Phil Stacy, despite his good vocal performance the night before.Dianna Ross performed which I was psyched to see. Simon Tells Ryan to "Come Out" of the Closet and the Top 12 Perform
2007-03-14 04:42:00 In case you missed it tonight, it was the best Ryan Seacrest-Simon Cowell gay banter yet. Ryan totally set himself up for it and he handled it like a trooper. This wasn't the first of such comments from Simon. A couple of years back when Ryan mentioned Simon's girlfriend, Cowell retorted with, "What about Arthur?" There have been many others since including the recent one where Simon called Ryan sweetheart, but tonight's took the cake! When Melinda Doolittle commented on how the hardest parts of the competition are the dresses and high heels, Ryan asked Simon if he had advice for Melinda about the high heels. Simon said something about that being Ryan's department to which Ryan replied, "Stay out of my closet."Cowell responded with, "Come out!"It was great.Oh yes, and the Top 12 also performed tonight:Strangely, I did not hate anyone this week which makes it very difficult for me. American Idol Top 12 Results
2007-03-10 16:23:00 Goodbye Antonella! It's been fun. You didn't bring anything to the table vocally but you gave us this year's Idol controversy which we need just as much. I'm very glad you did not make it to the top 12 and I thank America for that! I suspect the whole reason you even made it to Hollywood was because you and your friend were cute and the producers thought it'd be cool to stick it to your professionally trained friend by letting you get through instead! Anyway, I'm sure we'll see you real soon in Playboy.Jared, I can't even bare to say goodbye. It's not fair that you left and I think you were right on the verge of coming into your own. It sucks that you don't get to do the tour because at least it'd give you some steady work for a while. To be honest I probably won't remember you two weeks from now but for the moment I wish you all the best in your career!Sabrina, basically everything I said to Jared- ditto. The Top 8 Girls Perform!
More articles from this author:2007-03-08 03:41:00 Jordin Sparks started the show tonight doing Pat Benetar. I have yet to like any contestant's rendition of Pat Benetar on American Idol. The judges thought it was okay. I really wasn't feeling it at all. She's a great singer but I think her age is going to be a factor. The other power houses like Melinda and Lakisha are older and more experienced and I think she will end up paling in comparison.Sabrina Sloan looked absolutely gorgeous and I thought she sang really well. The judges thought she lacked passion and the song did not have enough of a hook or melody. I had no idea what they were talking about until I saw some of the other girls later on and, yes by comparison, Sabrina did lack passion. However, standing on her own she did one hell of a job. Antonella Barba did better than she has any other week thus far but her performance was still much less polished than any of the others. She missed notes and was hesitant while singing. So, although I'll give her an A for effort and... More About: Girls , Girl , Form , Perform 1, 2 |
