How To Repair A Computer Keyboard
2007-06-12 20:21:00
Although many keyboards can be bought for as little as $15 - less even - if you have one that you really like and a few keys go, you should look into doing a little repair. It’s not that hard. This Instructable goes through the fairly simple process of taking the thing apart, finding the problem and using a little conductive ink pen to fix it up. Shorten & Personalize Your Firefox Menu Toolbar
2007-06-12 18:47:00
We mentioned a way to do this in the article, One Firefox Toolbar to Rule Them All, here at Lifehack, but this extension makes things a little simpler when it comes to just altering the menu bar. The Person al Menu Firefox extension works in a similar manner to Tiny Menu, which puts all the menus [File, Edit Bookmarks etc] under one parent menu. However, Personal Menu has a few small differences. The first is you can select which menus you want available on the toolbar. Each menu drop down is changed to a button. Personal Menu’s real strength is in the custom button you are able to create that will only feature a list of options in the menu that you personally want in there. This is ideal if there are only a few items you frequently use from the menu bar and want quick access to. Personal Menu - Via [MozillaLinks] Bookmark or Share this with a friend!

Learn Keyboard Shortcuts with Keyboard Jedi
2007-06-12 18:30:00
Keyboard Jedi is a simple piece of software that will help you, or someone who you know, learn the keyboard shortcuts for any program. It does this by overlaying a transparent box that displays every keyboard shortcut you hit during operation. For me, this simple program operates in two modes: 1. Forced to Learn By default, Keyboard Jedi will disable the mouse for the particular program. Now you must operate the program using the keyboard only. The floating box will assist you remembering the shortcuts while you mash blindly around the keyboard. Alternatively, you could look up the shortcuts and just use Keyboard Jedi as a visual aid. 2. Help a Friend If you are in a situation where you are teaching a friend or co-worker how to use a piece of software, you can disable the ‘mouseless’ function and use the program normally. The floating box will still track the shortcuts you use. This way you need to explain each keyboard shortcut less. A handy feature is the ‘memo...

Hack Your Closet to Get the Right Job
2007-06-12 15:30:00
In 1930 J. C. Fluegel wrote a work entitled “The Psychology of Clothes.” One of his major precepts stated that nonconformity in choice of clothing was an outward expression of nonconformity in the thought and political outlook of the individual. So, what? Summer is here and a whole new mass of job seekers are entering the market. People are made and broken by their appearances. You have just about 20 seconds to make an impression. And, if you know this you can turn it to your advantage. Make sure your clothes are ALWAYS neat and clean. Keep your shoes well maintained. There is a reason for the expression, “down at the heels.” Keep you hair neat and keep it trim. Ladies, if you choose to wear make-up, keep it subtle and understated. Keep you nails well manicured. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. If you desire a management position dress as if you already have one. If you wish to portray yourself as self-confident and well composed, you should...

19 Stress Relief Tips For Work
2007-06-11 16:46:00
Building stress at the workplace is often unavoidable. We can attribute the amount of stress related articles here at Lifehack to that. The Ririan Project has, what I think, is an excellent list of tips to help handle work-related stress. Throw your head back and shout loudly. Shout and screaming is a great way to let go of all that pent-up tension that causes stress. Rather than risk being carted off to the asylum by shouting in the streets, let off some steam cheering on your local sport team, or heading to a sports bar. The added social contact will help you unwind even quicker. 19 Battlefield Tips to Survive Stress at Work - [TheRirianProject] Also check out our Personal Stress Detox Program for times away from work. 3 Ways To Invest In Time
2007-06-11 16:33:00
They say time is money, but really, time is more important than money. Time can make you money, and well invested time can get you a whole lot more. PickTheBrain.com looks at three ways that make investment in time work. It probably comes down to common sense, but how many of us actually do this stuff? Remember the last time you actually wasted time? Many people think their time isn?t valuable when they aren?t working, so they throw it away on activities that have a poor return on investment and don?t build for the future. The truth is, no one else is going to consider your time valuable until you do. If you want to acquire the wealth that will provide the freedom to live your ideal lifestyle, start thinking of every decision as an investment. Nothing is insignificant. How To Be A Good Boss
2007-06-11 16:16:00
Building on a similar topic discussed here at Lifehack.org is this WikiHow of how to be a good boss. It’s easy to hate a bad boss, but I always secretly feel sorry for some of them that just seem unable to grasp what they should be doing to get the best out of their employees. Because, as this article states, if you’re not a a good boss, you make it almost impossible for those who work for you to be good. Clone yourself - many times. Once you’ve identified the best of the best, teach them your job. That’s right. Teach them to be you. Most bad bosses are under the (mistaken) impression that there is something unique that makes them indispensable. The truth is, the best boss trusts his staff and re-creates himself many times over so that in case of emergencies in his absence the Good Boss has excellent help that can be utterly relied upon. How To Design The Perfect Nap
2007-06-11 15:30:00
Most people enjoy a good nap now and then, but are you really utilizing their full power? A correctly performed nap can give you a great boost in energy, focus, and concentration, but a poorly executed nap can leave you groggy and more tired than when you started. Several cultures around the world use a “siesta” in the afternoon to stay productive, and many workers in the U.S. have reported success avoiding afternoon drowsiness with a nap. Some people (myself included) have even excelled on nothing but six well times naps per day, during polyphasic sleep. Taking six naps per day has given me a chance to design the perfect nap. Here’s how: Get the timing right The single most important aspect of a nap is making it the right length, and it requires a little background explanation to understand why. It turns out that dreaming is the most important part of sleep. Test subjects who were deprived of dreams (meaning they were woken up when they started to dream, but o...
