"The Amazing Race" renewed for 12th run!! (UPDATED)
2007-05-16 05:20:00 ----"The Amazing Race 12" is a GO!!!Variety reports that CBS has renewed "The Amazing Race " for another cycle! UPDATE: "The A mazing Race 12" is expected to air in the midseason, according to USA Today. The official announcement of the CBS fall schedule will take place at 9 a.m. EDT Wednesday, so we will know then whether TAR12 will be delayed to midseason.----Relevant links: Variety, USA Today. CBS determines other series' fates
2007-05-15 22:32:00 ----According to Variety, CBS shows on the bubble renewed for the 2007-08 television season include dramas "Ghost Whisperer", "The Unit," "Shark," and "Numbers" and comedies "How I Met Your Mother," "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Rules of Engagement."Cancelled shows include the dramas "Jericho" and "Close to Home" and the sitcom "The Class." The cancellation of "Close to Home" is noteworthy in that it's a Jerry Bruckheimer produced series. Of course, "The Amazing Race" is also in the Bruckheimer family of shows. The fate of "The Amazing Race" is not officially known at this point.----Relevant links: Variety More About: Series , Mine , Term , Serie , Erie
Awaiting the CBS schedule announcement
2007-05-15 18:03:00 ----Network judgment day for "The Amazing Race" awaits...----On Wednesday, May 16, CBS will officially release its schedule for the fall 2007 season. With rumors of a so-called "break" in the taping for "The Amazing Race 12," I expect that TAR will not be on that fall 2007 schedule. Most of the television industry rumors at this point call for a new and presumably more compatible drama to make the CBS Sunday night lineup in place of the Race.My belief at this point remains that the next run of "The Amazing Race" will instead air later in the so-called midseason. A TAR12 airing in the Thursday "Survivor" slot sandwiched in-between the next two "Survivor" cycles has been a widely discussed possibility. Under that scenario, TAR12 would air during December, January and February. If TAR is destined for a midseason slot of some kind, we should find out by tomorrow as well.----I wish that the possibility of an outright cancellation of "The Amazing Race" series at this point could be ruled ... ABC schedule released
2007-05-15 14:56:00 ----There was no suspense about the fate of reality shows on the ABC lineup. "Dancing with the Stars," "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," "America's Funniest Home Videos" and "The Bachelor" had already been renewed and will air on the network's fall 2007 schedule. "Wife Swap" and "Supernanny" are slotted for midseason. "Oprah's Big Give," notable here for the role of "The Amazing Race" creators Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri as two of the executive producers, will premiere later in the midseason. Returning reality shows "Wife Swap" and "Supernanny" will also be brought back midseason along with comedy "Notes from the Underbelly" and dramas "Lost" and "October Road."Cancelled shows include comedies "George Lopez," "The Knights of Prosperity," "What About Brian." NBC schedule released, no "Apprentice"
2007-05-14 16:21:00 ----There's no mention of "The Apprentice" at all in NBC's schedule press release today, an ominious sign to say the least for the future of the series. Official word about a cancellation of "The Apprentice" (if that is what happened) will come later today.UPDATED: Okay, maybe not. The official word today on "The Apprentice" is no official word. TAR: The celebrity edition?
2007-05-14 14:17:00 ----No, just no.----By far, the strangest rumor to come out over the future of "The Amazing Race" over the past few days is the possibility of a so-called "celebrity edition." It seems that the rumor was trigged by a comment from TAR3 co-winner Zach Behr on TARFlies Times about seeing "familiar faces" on "The Amazing Race 12." Somehow, Zach's comment has morphed across the internet into a full blown "celebrity edition" rumor though that's not at all clear whether Zach actually had that concept in mind or not.According to the latest version of the rumor, celebrities in this case would probably not constitute actual A-list stars like Sarah Jessica Parker but veterans of other reality shows such as "Survivor," "American Idol" and "Big Brother." ----Of course, "familiar faces" could also simply be former racers appearing in new ways such as non-racing roles (one of the choices in a recent TARBloob poll), competing head-to-head against new racers (another TARBloob poll choice), or comb... TARBloob's spoiler policy
2007-05-14 02:02:00 ----As a general rule, TARBloob does NOT generally post SPOILERS for "The Amazing Race" or any other television programs. For the benefit of DVR/TiVo/Western U.S. & international viewers, race results and comments about each "The Amazing Race" episode are held off the main TARBloob page until about 12z (7 a.m. EST/8 a.m. EDT) the day after an episode airs in the United States. ----TARBloob results and blogger commentaries are available in the immediate hours after an Eastern United States episode airing via TARBloob's Atom/RSS feeds and by links off the main page to alternative TARBloob pages.SPOILERS such as the so-called elimination list from the recent All-Stars run were not posted anywhere on TARBloob or even read by this blogger. As any TARBloob reader could tell, I truly had no clue which team would actually end up winning that particular race in advance.----This site does not police comments (for the moment) but encourages posters to comment on "The Amazing Race" series or o... TAR12 reported "in the works"
2007-05-14 01:28:00 ----Excerpted from a "davidcalgary29" post Saturday @ Television Without Pity:TAR 12's a go! Phil was just interviewed on ET Canada (promoting his boring new "thrill of a lifetime" show), and stated that the next season of TAR is "in the works". Yay!I suppose that it's possible (not likely) that a new season of the show could be "in the works" as host Phil Keoghan called it but still not get network approval. That said, the tea leaves do seem in line for "The Amazing Race 12" to occur as originally expected, even if perhaps delayed to midseason.----Relevant link: Television Without Pity More About: Works , Repo , The Works
Waiting for word on "The Apprentice"
2007-05-14 00:34:00 ----This Monday will mark the start of network upfront presentations of their respective new fall schedules to advertisers. For the rest of us, it's essentially a chance to find out which "on the bubble" shows will survive for another year and which ones will be ended. ----NBC's presentation will lead off the week. While the fates of most NBC shows are already solidified, the key question there for fans of the reality show genre remains officially unanswered. The status of "The A pprentice " has been hotly debated with conflicting reports of renewals and non-renewals circulating for months. My best educated guess from reading the current whispers in the winds is for "The Apprentice" to receive another midseason renewal. However much the ratings may have fallen this year for Donald Trump's series, NBC could and actually has done much worse with other programs.----Among other NBC bubble shows, "Law & Order," "Friday Night Lights," "Scrubs" and "Medium" have been renewed over the last... TAR: Looking back at All-Stars
2007-05-12 15:41:00 ----My (hopefully) final All-Stars thoughts on TARBloob: ----I had dreaded the entire All-Stars run for a while because of my belief that the racers would end up being less relatable and the race would end up not being a real "Amazing Race." My dismay rose to the point that I actually went on a blogging hiatus from TARBloob to see if there was a way available to blog the run without driving myself up the wall.Obviously, these past twelve weeks proved that this blogger obviously did find a way. Whether it was a good way or not will have to be for others to decide but at least it was a way.----The actual quality of "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" season was decidedly mixed though most of the problems that aggravated me in the beginning were more in terms of network scheduling decisions as opposed to the race itself. We know the story by now, CBS delayed the airing of the first All-Stars episode into the later evening to accommodate a low-rated pro golf playoff. The delay cost TAR valuabl... More About: Back , King , Look
An equalized final flight
2007-05-12 15:40:00 ----Since TARBloob is at heart a totally unofficial blog written by one fan for other fans, this forum obviously does not have any racer interviews. Journalists conduct interviews after all, not regular fans. One interview of third-place finalists Charla and Mirna of "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" by Reality TV World should be noted though for its interesting revelation. ----Mirna disclosed that the final flight from Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California was essentially a producer-mandated flight, no other flight options for racers were allowed on the final stretch. Assuming Mirna is telling the truth, that would mean that every task on the Hawaiian portion of the leg would have had no ability whatsoever to influence the final outcome of the race. While I grant that artificial equalizations on "The Amazing Race" have been part of the series for years out of dramatic necessity, such a stark equalization on the final leg of All-Stars seems a step too far for my taste. One or more team... More About: Final , Light , Equal , Flight , Fina
Week twelve: Eric & Danielle
2007-05-11 05:32:00 ----Due at least in part to some bad flight connections midrace, Eric and Dani elle had not only won no race legs but finished Dustin and Kandice for eight straight race legs in a row. Sometimes past records do not indicate future outcomes after all. A bizarro world final leg proved fortuitous for Eric and Danielle as the out of sync team became in sync long enough to win the "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" run.----Eric and Danielle started out in second place coming off the Guam race leg and stayed in that second place through most of their early Hawaiian sojourn while the other two teams switched slots. The daters signed for the helicopter charter in second place while the beauty queens misnavigated down to last. The then-New York/Florida couple gained ground with a successful performance diving under a cave on the "Under" Detour then took the lead on Shipwreck Beach, taking advantage of Charla's difficulty running on the rocks. In fact, the physical team really was the best team to... More About: Week , Twelve
Week twelve: Dustin & Kandice
2007-05-11 04:31:00 ----The final leg of "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" turned out to be a bizarro leg for the beauty queens Dustin and Kandice. Every bit of synchronicity that the beauty queens had claimed as an advantage over the other TAR11 teams, seemed to fall apart on this one most important race leg. The end result was a second place finish instead of the statistically projected win.----Dustin and Kandice led the leg initially off of their leg twelve victory but were equalized out with Eric and Danielle once in Tokyo for the connecting plane to Hawaii. The beauty queens would actually end up in last place temporarily after Charla & Mirna caught the superior connector and Dustin directed her taxi into a wrong turn, allowing Eric and Danielle to claim the second helicopter charter reservation. In fact, the former Miss California had more than few problems of her own this race leg. Dustin seemed to suffer a panic attack during the "Under" cave diving Detour, then inexplicably tried to walk her kayak ... More About: Week , Twelve , Dice
Week twelve: Charla & Mirna
2007-05-11 03:44:00 ----Char la and Mirna entered the final leg of "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" intending to win with their minds a contest that they had no way to win on a physical basis. There was one shining moment in the early part of the leg when success seemed possible but by leg's end, they were left as peripheral players in the game. That one shining moment for the team was early on, when the cousins discovered a United plane connection from Tokyo to Honolulu that would let the team arrive in Hawaii 40 minutes before the other teams. All three teams had been set to take the same connector after arriving in Tokyo from Guam but the cousins dropped that plan in a risky attempt to gain a time advantage. Charla and Mirna really lived in taking unorthodox risks with plane flights, risks that would have (and in some cases, actually have) defeated other teams. Once again, awareness brought a reward though as the cousins indeed gained the early advantage.----The problem with finale legs on an "Amazing R... More About: Week , Twelve

Dustin & Kandice promised more aggressiveness while Eric sought redemption after losing TAR9 by five minutes.Beauty queens Dustin & Kandice booked the best available flight, one leaving at 3:50 p.m. and arriving after a Tokyo stop in Honolulu at 7:40 a.m. The Eric & Danielle and Charla & Mirna teams were booked to leave Guam at 4:20 p.m. but reconnect in Tokyo for the same connection to Hawaii with the beauty queens to equalize the field.Once in Tokyo though, Charla and Mirna found a new connection via United Airlines that would get them into Honolulu at 7 a.m. While the other two teams were left perplexed by Charla and Mirna'... TAR11: Other blog links
2007-05-09 16:34:00 ----A good blogger will usually try to link up his/her blog up with other blogs, to point out other interesting perspectives about his/her chosen subject matter. That's what I try to do for my sister DCABloob blog. In the case of "The Amazing Race" though, especially on its now concluded All-Stars version, I've had to deliberately avoid searching other blog notes to avoid the possibility of being spoiled. With that possibility of spoilage now over though, TARBloob can share relevant links (courtesy of Sphere) from the blogs listed below about the latest TAR run's conclusion and aftermath.----Relevant links: Zap2it.com, I am a TV Junkie, Pandanista, Cultural Learnings, Jeff Ellis, Capt. CBS praises the "lovebirds"
2007-05-08 17:40:00 ----CBS issued a press release Monday that praised the 'Season 9 Lovebirds' Eric and Danielle for their "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" win. The network apparently didn't know or couldn't be bothered to acknowledge that Eric and Danielle were no longer a romantic couple. (As revealed Tuesday on "Live with Regis and Kelly," both TAR All-Stars winners moved on during the post-taping period to relationships with new significant others.)The new network press release was in fact little more than a superficial copy and paste update of CBS' introductory "All-Stars" press release. Combined with the downgraded treatment given to the TAR finale on "The Early Show," the network's post-race promotional effort has really come off as something of an afterthought.----Relevant link: CBS via The Futon Critic More About: Bird
"The Amazing Race" on a break
2007-05-07 20:57:00 ----This morning's cryptic comments about a break for "The Amazing Race " during the summer raise a number of interesting issues for the program. While TAR host Phil Keoghan talked on "The Early Show" about other projects, the status of his flagship program, the program that inspired this blog, was left unclear.----The first inescapable reality is as follows... if "The Amazing Race 12" does not tape this summer, it can not air on CBS or any other network this fall. A significant break, any kind of break in the taping schedule would cost TAR12 any chance at a fall schedule slot. The first inescapable reality inevitably leads to the second inescapable reality. If "The A mazing Race 12" does not tape this summer, it is because CBS does not want to air it this fall.----At this point, we don't know the why and barely know a little of the what is going on with the future of "The Amazing Race."One possibility is that CBS simply fears a potential writers' union strike and wants to hold its 2... Rating rises slightly for All-Stars finale
2007-05-07 18:25:00 ----The final episode of "The Amazing Race: All-Stars " scored a 3.3 preliminary Nielsen rating in the key 18-49 age group, a slight uptick from the previous episode's 3.0 prelim mark. TAR11's 3.3 demo mark was third in its timeslot but again with a significant rise over the "60 Minutes" 2.0 lead-in and a slight advantage over its "Cold Case" (3.2) lead-out.On a more negative note, the TAR11 finale rating finished well below the equivalent finale of TAR10 last fall, coming in line instead with the conclusion of the subpar "Amazing Race 9" run. It's just as well considering that two TAR9 alums ended up winning All-Stars .----The TAR11 finale scored 10.54 million viewers according to PIFeedback.com, a decent number though as usual below the other CBS Sunday night programs. The overall decline in ratings for "The Amazing Race" raises all sorts of interesting questions for a series whose future is still very much in flux. Next week, CBS will give us the answers.----Relevant links: Medi... More About: Finale , Light , Rise
Eric & Danielle split up, more "Early" notes
2007-05-07 14:49:00 ----Quick notes from "The Earl y Show" post-race interview:-- Eric and Danielle are officially no longer a romantic couple, blaming the stress of the race as not being good for their relationship. The pair are still good friends, though. The split is probably for the best. However hard they worked as a race team, the dynamic for a truly great non-race relationship simply was not there. It's to their credit that Eric and Danielle knew enough to acknowledge the obvious and move on with their lives.------- The daters (at the time) finished about 10 minutes ahead of Dustin and Kandice to win the All-Stars run.-- "The Amazing Race: All-Stars" finalists' interview and check presentation came very late during "The Early Show," several minutes after an interview of Bryce Dallas Howard, of all people. I have nothing against that actress, but come on! It was not exactly a prominent placement for TAR fans, all things considered.-- Phil Keoghan will take a break for the summer to film segments... Eric and Danielle win "The Amazing Race: All-Stars"
2007-05-07 03:30:00 ----The finale of "The Amazing Race : All-Stars " had an absolutely fascinating final major task that ultimately decided the outcome. With more time beyond the live blog to explain this, what happened is that one member of each team had to answer a set of four questions about the other teams. Those answers would make up the combination for the safe with the next clue. The second member of each team then had to independently match up her answers with those of her race partner to get the box and receive the next clue. That clue would give the final end destination for TAR11.I'll have to go into the tape later tonight or Monday to get a transcript of all the questions and answers but eventually Danielle was able to match up her answers with Eric to leave in first place. Despite San Francisco traffic congestion, the Eric and Danielle team made the Botanical Garden's finish line to win "The Amazing Race : All-Stars "The final task was an intricate one, worthy of the program. The stunner was...
