Ozzy Osbourne Blames Poor Album Sales On Illegal Downloading
2007-11-01 22:04:00
Share on StumbleUpon: Sounds like unlike Trent Reznor, Ozzy Osbourne did not have an OiNK account. Osbourne is complaining that he is “suffering terribly” from the effects of illegal downloading. The Ozz man tells Australia’s Herald Sun that sales of his newest release Black Rain have lagged because of Web piracy, forcing him to perform ninety concerts this year — a career high for the fifty-eight-year-old singer. “If they don’t find something to stop [illegal downloading], people won’t be able to make records. There won’t be any new bands. How are they going to survive?” he asked. (We watched The Osbournes and believe that family could probably survive in a slightly smaller mansion, but point taken). As for the lagging sales of Black Rain — the first record Ozzy has written and recorded sober — maybe the album isn’t selling because, well, it’s not that great. Or maybe it’s because the album’s single was locked out by rigid radio playlists and there’s no outlet for music videos thes...

Former Ramones Co-Manager Linda S. Stein Found Murdered In New York
2007-11-01 21:28:00
Share on StumbleUpon: Linda S. Stein, a New York City real estate agent who helped foster the careers of punk pioneers the Ramones as their co-manager, is dead at sixty-two. Stein was found bludgeoned to death in her Fifth Avenue apartment and police have ruled the death a homicide. As the wife of Sire Records head Seymour Stein in the Seventies, Stein helped the Ramones secure a series of landmark concerts in Britain. She was also heavily entrenched in the music scene at the time, as her husband’s label had artists like Talking Heads, Madonna and the B-52’s on its roster. Elton John considered Stein a dear friend for nearly four decades, saying in a statement yesterday, “I’m absolutely shocked and upset. She’s been a friend for over thirty-seven years and will be greatly missed.” Though the Steins divorced in late Seventies, Linda enjoyed an incredibly successful second career as a real estate broker, selling properties to some of the biggest names in all industries and serving as ...

Axl Rose Does Not Respond Well To Criticism
2007-11-01 21:18:00
Share on StumbleUpon: Former Guns N’ Rose s guitarist Slash made his way to David Letterman’s couch last night to promote his new autobiography, called simply Slash: The Autobiography. When quizzed by Dave regarding the current state of his relationship with Axl Rose , Slash not only relayed an amusing anecdote about the GN’R singer; he unknowingly also unlocked the entire Chinese Democracy mystery. Slash told a story about the early days, when Axl was just a skinny redhead who was crashing on Slash’s grandma’s couch. One day, after Axl refused to relinquish his borrowed bed for Slash’s grandma to sit on, Slash cautiously confronted Rose about the incident while driving to band practice. Rose responded the same way most of us would: By jumping out of a car going forty miles per hour. Like Slash said, Axl had to be “handled with kid gloves” from that point on. The audience and Dave laughed, Amazon.com sold some additional copies of Slash, yet this story unlocks some major clues into th...

According To Baseless Evidence, Led Zeppelin To Tour!
2007-11-01 21:04:00
Share on StumbleUpon: Will Led Zeppelin launch a full-scale tour following their reunion performance in London on November 26th? Jimmy Page says “Maybe.” Robert Plant says “No.” John Paul Jones hasn’t said anything. Fans hoping for a reunion tour may be in luck, though. BW & BK reports that Zep dates are being planned for the spring. The proof? Well, it’s a stretch. According to some writer’s sister’s boyfriend’s best friend’s younger brother who’s an intern for the New York Jets, supposedly a block of June dates at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, have been put on hold. Does that mean Led Zeppelin is playing? Maybe, but it could also be Bruce Springsteen, who we know is touring hard next year. Or it could be the Dave Matthews Band. Like we said, it’s a stretch. The Web site also reports that “a plethora of merchandise” is currently in production in Asia. When is a plethora of Zeppelin merchandise not in production? The band has moved more T-shirts than Hanes, and “Swa...

Axl Rose Is “Back in the Saddle,” Back On Our Stereos
2007-10-30 22:12:00
Share on StumbleUpon: Continuing with national radio’s habit of leaking new music, last week a Texas rock station played Sebastian Bach and Axl Rose ’s version of Aerosmith’s “Back in the Saddle ,” one of three Bach/Rose collaborations we told you about in August that appear on Bach’s November 20th’s LP Angel Down. “Saddle” instantly became the station’s most requested track, as well as the victim of numerous radio rips (like this one). More than anything, the song acts as a public-service announcement, proclaiming the Guns N’ Roses leader is alive and his voice is very, very well as he takes over the song — a tough task considering Bach delivers strong with full Celebrity Rap Superstar intensity. Rose adds vocal embellishes to another leaked tune, Bach-dominated post-grunge track “Stuck Inside,” making us anticipate that one day when Chinese Democracy stops teasing us and finally sees release.©Copyright 2007 Rolling Stone

I wore black shoes because Ash told me too. She says it makes my honkoid feet look smaller. I think it makes me look tougher. Before the game, some locker room boy saw my shoes and said, “Hey, Johnny Unitas!” And I said, “Right, Hammy, that’s who I am. Come here and give me a high five.” And I wedgied the little freak up to his tiny neck. Me and the guys all laughed about that for a long time.

2007-10-25 07:30:00
Share on StumbleUpon: Singer Joins Other Rock Musicians To Protest Energy Bill(CBS/AP) Rock musicians Bonn ie Raitt, Jackson Browne and Graham Nash are putting a new millennium twist on their 1970s anti-nuclear message, urging the U.S. Congress Tuesday not to approve government loan guarantees for new nuclear power plants.Nearly three decades ago, the three were prominent in the anti-nuke movement, helping organize "No Nuke s" concerts at Madison Square Garden that stirred public opposition to nuclear power. But unlike 30 years ago, they now have the Internet to help spread their message. In addition to an online petition against the loan guarantees, they've produced a music video found on YouTube of their take on the Stephen Stills' song "For What It's Worth."
