Mormon American Idols?
2008-01-26 19:10:00 Just came across an article about 2 Mormon Idol Contestants. Very cool. It's nice to see contestants who I could see being good role models for the youth of today. I hope they go far. Check out the article and their auditions on YouTube. More About: American , Idols
American Idol -- 2008
2008-01-04 05:35:00 I can't wait for American Idol to start up again. It's kind of an interesting thing to think about how a short tv show can change lives -- I look at some of the contestants and see how they have embraced the Hollywood lifestyle. They get lost in the crowd. But those who are still maintaining their identity -- seem to stand out and do quite well. Some get their 15 minutes of fame, while others with huge talent are most likely going to have long careers. Anyway, it's going to be fun to see who comes out and shines this year. More About: 2008
So You Think You Can Dance - Winner!
2007-08-21 08:10:00 I know I didn't blog about the top 4 - but after watching the final performances -- I have to mention the following...I picked Lacey to win at the beginning, but she kind of stayed the same -- and even became a little bit less genuine towards the end -- playing to the crowd and judges, and not really her true self. I think any of the top 4 were good enough to win. However both Danny and Sabra came out of their shells and began to shine as the competition wore on. So I was not surprised that they were in the top 2.I'm really happy for Sabra -- she's darling, a great dancer and I think America's new sweetheart!I can't wait until next season. P.S. I just don't have words to describe Cat Deeley's dress/fluffy/strange creation she was wearing. What in the world WAS that? More About: Dance , Winner , So You Think You Can Dance
So You Think You Can Dance - Down to 6
2007-08-06 05:52:00 So, I had to Tivo this past week's "So You Think You Can Dance ". Thank goodness for Tivo huh. The show started with Danny being paired with Sara and dancing an Argentine Tango. They did some cool tricks including the "human pretzel" which was fun. Their second number was HipHop which I ususally love, but it didn't work for me -- Mary didn't like it either. It felt a bit awkward. I suspect they'll be in the bottom 2. Then Dominic and Lauren performed a Krump which didn't work for me. I didn't feel any chemistry and it didn't seem like they hit it hard enough. I was a little disappointed because ususally I love watching this type of dance. The second number was a Rumba. Lauren did a great job but Dominic didn't do much for me personally in this dance. They'll most likely be in the bottom 2. Neil and Lacey were paired and did a Latin Jazz number. I liked it okay, but the judges didn't seem to feel any chemistry. Mary mentioned to Lacey that she needed to pay attention to her ... More About: So You Think You Can Dance
So You Think You Can Dance - Down to 8
2007-07-27 06:18:00 I have to say I was a little bit surprised when Lauren was put into the bottom two during tonight's "So You Think You Can Dance ", but I had predicted Jaimie being there. I thought Sara would be there as well, rather than Lauren. I think I predicted the bottom two guys -- Kameron and Dominic. Dominic's solo was amazing. I had forgotten he was a b-boy.So it turns out that the two who were sent home tonight on "So You Think You Can Dance " were Jaimie and Kameron. I have to say I was SHOCKED and actually gasped out loud when they announced Kameron. I knew he was at risk, but I thought for sure Dominic would go first. Anyway, I love the show and can't wait for next week!
So You Think You Can Dance - Top 10 Review
2007-07-26 20:46:00 Here is the latest review of "So You Think You Can Dance ". Last night the top 10 contestants performed. I'm offering predictions and review for your interest. I'd love to hear your opinions. Cat Deeley (the host) came out in a dress that looked more like a short blue Roman toga -- it didn't work -- but most of the time she looks great. Lauren and Pasha were first to perform -- they did Hip Hop. It was good, but nothing excellent in my opinion. But I think they'll both be safe tonight.Jaimie - solo dance. She's a great dancer and I really enjoyed her performance of Wade's "Peace" dance. I think she's very talented, but will probably go home tonight for the fact that she hasn't seemed to connect to the audience as much as some of the others.Dominic - solo. It just didn't work for me. It felt stiff and unnatural. He's at risk and I think will probably end up going home tonight or soon. Sabra and Kameron did a beautiful contemporary number to "Amazing Grace" by Crystal Lewis. ... Top 10 Dancers
2007-07-22 06:25:00 Okay -- so I've been on vacation and haven't blogged lately -- but thank goodness for Tivo. I just finished watching "So You Think You Can Dance". I did feel a little vindicated that I was right last week about the bottom 3 couples -- not that I get satisfaction in anyone going home... But I didn't guess that Shauna would go home. This week the top 12 danced. It wasn't my favorite week for some reason. I think all of the dances were pretty good, but somewhere along the line, nothing seemed to really impress my as spectacular or moving. In fact, some of the dances were a little bit strange. My predictions were accurate for 2 of the bottom couples -- Jamie and Hok, and Anya and Danny. I didn't think Lauren and Neil would be in the bottom three -- although their dance was a bit strange this week, so perhaps that explains it. I usually love Mia Michaels choreography, but this week just seemed a little disconnected rather than filled with great emotion.I knew Hok was going to go home,... More About: Dancers
So You Think You Can Dance - Lacey Schwimmer Spotlight
2007-07-12 21:47:00 There is a great article about Lacey Schwimmer from "So You Think You Can Dance " on Meridian Magazine. I really enjoyed reading it and thought you might too. More About: Spotlight , So You Think You Can Dance
So You Think You Can Dance - Top 14 Review
2007-07-12 10:01:00 Yeah!!!! So You Think You Can Dance is BACK! I missed it last week with the holiday, but everyone came back with full force. So here is my review of the top 14...Lacey & Cameron (Hustle). So this was not my favorite dance but they did a great job. And Lacey has such a great personality I think they'll be safe again this week.Shauna & Cedric (Mambo). This just didn't feel very Latin to me -- no passion in it. Although I really like Cedric. But I think they'll be in the bottom 3 and he'll probably go home this week.Danny & Anya (Contemporary). Danny is a great technical dancer, but there is a disconnect somewhere -- I just never really feel joy watching him even though he's a great dancer. I thought Anya looked great as a blonde -- it kind of softened her look. But I think these two will be in the bottom three, not because the dance wasn't good -- it was -- but because I don't think they connect to the audience as much as some of the other couples.Pasha & Sara (West Coast Swing)... So You Think You Can Dance Results
2007-07-03 07:08:00 Wow -- last week's So You Think You Can Dance had quite a few surprises. I thought Jessie did a good job but then she still was sent home. I don't think anyone was more surprised than she was. I'm glad that Cedric is around for another week. And having Jesus go home was okay with me, although he is a good dancer. I'm going to miss the show this week -- I wish they weren't taking the week off, but it will be interesting to see if the dancing is even that much better with the extra time. So You Think You Can Dance - Top 16 Review
2007-06-28 07:59:00 I have to say that I really love "So You Think You Can Dance ". The talent this season is incredible and I love feeling inspired after watching. So, here is my review and recap of the top 16 dancers.First, I want to give my prediction that I think Lacey will win. Her first dance with the Mia Michaels contemporary dance was amazing and powerful. Her personality will win over fans. She stands out with her strong personality and she's really great to watch.Sara and Jesus (Krumping): I know the judges liked the number, but it felt to me that Sara was trying a little bit too hard. Jesus looked natural and it was fun to watch -- but I think they may struggle a bit because they may not connect as much to the audience.Shauna and Cedric (Contemporary): I usually love Mia Michaels routines, but for some reason this one didn't do much for me. Perhaps it was Cedric's performance, but I really like the kid -- and I thought Mary's critique was really harsh -- telling him she thought he should n... So You Think You Can Dance
2007-06-06 05:55:00 Well, since American Idol is over for the season, I guess I'll start blogging about "So You Think You Can Dance ." I got hooked on this show the first season, and the second season was so glad when Benji won -- his personality totally won over the audience.I love the quality of talent on this show -- it's amazing to see how some of the dancers look so graceful and natural -- beautiful! So during the audition process I was not too surprised to see some of the same tactics that American Idol uses in showcasing some strange and not so good dancers. Of of the most unique was a guy who called himself the "Gold Inferno". He wore a gold mask through the whole audition process. I felt bad for him -- he seemed like he had a mental illness or something -- and I wish they wouldn't really make fun of people even though they are a bit strange. Some of it was pretty brutal -- especially when the heavy guy came out to dance. He was quite heavy and when his shirt came up and his belly hung out it... More About: So You Think You Can Dance
American Idol - It's all over!
2007-05-30 09:21:00 Hey all -- well on my family poll a few weeks ago I put up a poll to see who would guess the next American Idol winner. Two of my nieces and myself picked Jordin Sparks as the winner -- and it looks like we won! I really wanted Melinda to win, but figured with her star appeal, youth, cuteness and spunk that Jordin would end up having the most fans who would vote. I wish her the best. She's really darling and sings great. I hope the "star mill" won't ruin her because she's so young -- I hope she'll surround herself with true friends and family and keep her head on straight. She's so cute, but when people become famous at such young ages it seems like many of them struggle.Anyway, with the American Idol season over, now I'm looking forward to a fun filled summer!
American Idol - WHAT????
2007-05-17 08:03:00 I have to say that as soon as the home town visits were shown, I knew Melinda was going home. The crazy screaming fans for both Jordin and Blake were young, teenaged, and would vote a ton of times -- whereas the fans for Melinda were more reserved and not as demonstrative. I'm still shaking my head -- Melinda deserves to win American Idol on talent alone -- however I do think this will be a blessing for her -- to make her own record deal (probably tons better than the American Idol contract) -- and probably give her more freedom to go the direction she wants to go.At this point, I think Jordin will win. I feel a bit bad for her if she does, simply for the fact that she is so young, and I hope she won't give in to the pressure to become the "typical" teen star -- dressing too sexy, focusing too much on fame, etc. I worry about these young stars.I do think Blake has a chance to win -- with the young girls voting -- and I think he would do well as a winner or not. So at this point I ...
Melinda Doolittle Made Me Cry!
2007-05-17 02:03:00 Okay, last night on American Idol when Melinda Doolittle sang the Whitney Houston song that Randy chose for her to sing -- it was so amazing and beautifully sung, it brought me to tears! Wow! Melinda deserves to win American Idol hands down -- but even if she doesn't win, she has such great talent I'm sure she'll do extremely well.I like Blake and Jordin both, but they never seem to rise above the good performances to really make an impact on me. They are both very good but Melinda brings the emotion and power in her performances.I think Blake will go home tonight. More About: Made
American Idol Loses LaKisha
2007-05-10 07:40:00 I have to say that when American Idol lost LaKisha tonight I was a bit disappointed -- I would have preferred that Blake or even Jordin went home... but I supposed LaKisha was at risk and I wasn't surprised. But I do think she'll still get a recording contract and do very well.Good luck to the remaining three for next week. I think it will get down to Melinda and Jordin -- and hope Melinda wins.
American Idol - Top 4 - Not a Good Night
2007-05-09 19:54:00 Well, last night's American Idol wasn't the best. There were moments of greatness, but I just wasn't very impressed with any of the performances.I did not like Blake's renditions at all -- it's almost like he's just using gimicks (the beat boxing) to stand out and not doing much singing. So, I'll be ready for him to go tonight. (I know my nieces will be screaming with outrage if he leaves -- but for real -- he needs to be done.)I think that LaKisha is also at risk not because she did poorly -- because I think she did okay and she'll get a recording contract and do well without winning -- I think she's at risk because her personality is not as strong as some of the others. Now, I know that Jordin is becoming a favorite, and I've liked her from the start, but her youth is showing and the pouty looks at the end (trying to get people to call and vote for her)... well, it's not my favorite thing ... it just seems like it's a bit immature. She's young and will do very well in ... More About: Night , Good
No One Leaves American Idol
2007-04-26 18:43:00 Okay, I have to say that I called it as soon as Ryan mentioned the "results are shocking" on last night's American Idol . They made such a big deal about the results and getting it down to Jordin and Chris - I figured no one would leave -- especially since the whole show was based on charity and it wouldn't have fit to have someone leave sad.But I didn't see the "2 people will go home next week" announcement. Wow. That will shake things up a bit. It may send someone home that wouldn't necessarily go -- if they were in the bottom 2 and then their fans kicked into gear to save them. We have no idea who is in the bottom two -- so that will be interesting to see.Anyway, I think many people were disappointed that all of the stars were only on pre-recorded bits -- rather than performing live. I heard on the news that the event had sold out in 1 minute -- and people were expecting to see the stars. But I'm glad that American Idol Gives Back raised so much money and I hope the money wil... Predictions for American Idol Tonight
2007-04-25 18:58:00 My predictions for American Idol tonight -- So, I think LaKisha will probably go home -- or perhaps Blake.Chris Richardson is such a cutie. I know the judges liked his performance last night, but it didn't quite work for me -- but I still like him. Eric Clapton is a tall order.Melinda Doolittle did great as always. I really want her to win. I think she deserves it -- but I think Jordin may get the young kid and teen votes. I didn't know the Faith Hill song she sang -- but no matter what she sings -- she radiates! She has amazing talent!Blake Lewis. I just can't get past the blank look on his face all the time with the raised eyebrows. He has a nice voice -- but I need to connect and see more personality from him -- more sincerity -- which is ironic because the judges seemed to think he performed "Imagine" by John Lennon with emotion and sincerity -- but it just didn't come across to me. I know he's popular and I liked his beat-boxing and style at the beginning, but it's gotten... More About: Predictions , Tonight
Bono coming to American Idol Tonight
2007-04-25 18:55:00 Okay, so whomever is putting together the American Idol Gives Back -- is doing a great job! The fact that Bono is joining the other celebrities, shows that they are doing it right. Very cool.I wasn't all that impressed with Ryan and his presentation of the charities -- it seemed a bit too casual for my taste -- but I'm sure as the celebrities perform tonight they will focus more on how we can make a difference in the world. It was nice to see Simon affected by the people he met -- showing that he does have feelings and isn't mean all the time. More About: Tonight
Ellen to Host American Idol
2007-04-24 01:07:00 Hey all -- great news -- two of my favorites are combining! Ellen is going to host the American Idol Gives Back show. Very cool. "Ellen DeGeneres will head into the primetime realm when she hosts Wednesday's live two-hour Idol Gives Back special. While Ryan Seacrest hosts the elimination episode from the show's regular soundstage, DeGeneres will hold court at L.A.'s Walt Disney Concert Hall. Idol star Kelly Clarkson will make a special appearance on the episode, along with Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion and Bono, who'll talk with the Top 6 finalists about his ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History. They'll also perform "American Prayer," a song the rocker cowrote with Dave Stewart about the AIDS crisis in Africa, on Wednesday. Idol Gives Back will benefit Charity Projects Entertainment Fund, a relief organization which benefits impoverished young people in America and Africa. " -- People Magazine More About: Host
Sanjaya is no longer on American Idol!
2007-04-19 19:56:00 I couldn't believe it! Wow! Finally it has happened. I really didn't expect Sanjaya to go home last night simply because the voting for the worst campaign is still going on. But if LaKisha had been sent home instead, I think there would have been an uprising! I actually haven't watched the results show -- it is on my TiVo -- but when I saw the news that Sanjaya was no longer on American Idol I have to say I was really relieved. I feel bad for the poor guy. I think he's loving the attention. And as he matures and gains more confidence, and learns more about performing, perhaps he could do fairly well. I'm pretty happy with those we have left!
American Idol goes Country
2007-04-18 05:45:00 Tonight American Idol performances were country. Martina McBride was the mentor for the American Idol contestants. She's one of my favorite country music stars. I recall a few years ago when she came to the Stadium of Fire in Provo -- one of my favorite celebrations (this year Brooks & Dunn will be headlining).I loved Martina's advice about connecting with the music and the lyrics. That's so important when it comes to great performances. Here are my notes from tonight:Phil Stacey -- I would have liked to see what he would have looked like with a cowboy hat tonight. It would have matched his outfit and the country style. He really has a great voice. Needs to work a bit on his performing and showmanship, with a bit more energy. But I do like his voice and thought he sang well tonight. I think the country style fits his voice -- and the judges agreed!Jordin Sparks -- I loved her hair -- it looked beautiful. Didn't really dig the dress though. But she is beautiful and has a nice voic... More About: Country
Celine Dion on American Idol?
2007-04-12 10:09:00 So Ryan said tonight that Celine Dion is going to be on American Idol -- is that for the American Idol Gives Back Charity event, or is she going to be a guest mentor/coach? It wasn't clear to me -- but wow! That's going to be cool. I loved the bit they did with Tony Bennett auditioning -- The judges were adamant that he was horrible and he didn't make it through. Just a joke -- but it made me wonder -- I bet there are a ton of singers who are in the industry that wouldn't make it through that process. That would be a reality show idea -- make established performers go through. I bet no one would want to and it might actually ruin their careers. Hmm. Interesting thought though.
J Lo on American Idol
2007-04-12 09:50:00 I loved hearing the coaching tips that J Lo gave to the American Idol contestants. She is so beautiful and cute. I love that when she talks, she seems so real. Jennifer Lopez embodies passion -- so her performances always make an impact. I hope some of the American Idol performers will take to heart that connection and try to really feel the emotions of the music. It makes a huge difference! They announced last night that more performers are joining the American Idol Gives Back campaign including Rascal Flatts, Il Divo, Earth Wind and Fire, and the LA Philharmonic. It seems like they have really good groups and I bet even more big names will come on board. As soon as you get a few big names, more jump at the chance and don't want to be left out. I'll be excited to hear who they announce next. |
