Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Reasons Why We’re Excited for TCA [Aside from
2009-08-03 17:33:00
1. Replace steroid-riddled Major League Baseball players with cocktail-swilling professional TV critics and you’ve got reason #1 why this TV Addict is excited for TCA. It’s pretty much our MLB Fantasy Camp equivalent. 2. Thanks to the wonders of live blogging, we’ll be first to get you all of the scoop on your favorite shows both new and old. Assuming of course you don’t follow prolific tweeters hitfixdaniel, sepinwall, moryan and the televisionary who will no doubt tweet us to the punch! 3. TCA is Comic Con for professional television reporters: All of the access, none if the costumes. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!) 4. This TV Addict finally gets to come face-to-face with his man crush, SFGate TV critic extraordinaire Tim Goodman so that I might present him with a gift. Which FYI, is not nearly as creepy as it sounds. I hope. 5. Attending TCA puts me one step closer to my final goal… world domination. (Um… did I say tha...

We’re Back!
2009-08-03 15:56:00
Photo Credit: Lauren “Ansel Adams Jr.” Thorek Apparently, the television world didn’t get my memo.   You know, the one that politely requested that all of Hollywood press pause on their wheelings and dealings so that this TV Addict wouldn’t miss a morsel of TV news whilst bravely trekking up and down the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon and then livin’ it up in Vegas as part of my plan to get some much-needed R&R. (FYI: The finger strength that comes from a lifetime of channel surfing is not nearly as helpful as one might expect when it comes to outdoor adventures such as hiking.) I mean, how else to explain the ridiculous amount of TV news (listed after the jump) that broke on the one-and-only week of the year that theTVaddict.com went on hiatus! Or as 30 ROCK’s Liz Lemon would say, “Blerg!” But the good news is that theTVaddict.com is back… with, you guessed… a vengeance! And between live blogging as many TCA pa...

“officially cannot believe that a network run by a woman, programming for YOUNG GIRLS, celebrates The New Hump Day. Shame on everyone.” — tweeted former PRIVILEGED, EVERWOOD showrunner Rina Mimoun upon discovering the CW’s newest poster (above) for their highly anticipated MELROSE PLACE reboot.

Comic Con 2009: Inside the Entertainment Weekly/ SyFy Party
2009-07-27 16:49:00
Chuck Me! Get ready to be jealous, kids, because I’m about to describe to you the coolest night of my life and, I warn you now, by the time I’m through, you’re gonna want to be me. And by that I mean you’re going to want to put aside whatever hobbies it is you do to while away the hours, start up a television blog of your very own, spend three years devoting every waking moment to it and spend far more than you’ll ever made back for your efforts… all in the hopes of having the kind of night I just had thanks to the site having gotten me the Comic Con equivalent of a Golden Ticket: an invitation to the Entertainment Weekly /SyFy party. Not to oversell the event or anything, but it was basically the party of the year. Where else would this TV Addict have the opportunity to geek out over STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION with FRINGE co-creator Roberto Orci, discuss Canada’s inferiority complex over its homegrown entertainment with TRUE BLOOD star...

A Comic Con Video Round Up
2009-07-27 10:18:00
Thanks to wonder that is YouTube, the best seat in the house for Comic Con 2009 was not front row center in the hallowed hall that is ‘H.’ Rather, it was in front of your computer, thanks to some friendly neighborhood super-fans who were kind enough to share the magic that is the ‘Con’ by uploading videos of some of your favorite panels. Many of which we’ve linked to after the jump. • DEXTER • DOLLHOUSE • GLEE • HEROES • LOST • SMALLVILLE • SUPERNATURAL • TRUE BLOOD TRAILERS • CLONE WARS Season two trailer • DEXTER Season four trailer • SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND trailer • STARGATE UNIVERSE trailer

The TV Addict Goes on Hiatus (Again!)
2009-07-26 18:55:00
Hiatus Day 1: The TVA goes ATV’ing Are you ready to find an ulterior method of procrastination during your work/school day? This TV Addict certainly hopes so, because I’m outta here! After three years of virtually daily postings [with the exception of weekends and that dark period following EVERWOOD's cancellation] I’ve once again decided to take some of my mother’s childhood advice to heart, shut off that damn “idiot box” and give those those so-called great outdoors. Is the Grand Canyon all that it’s cracked up to be? Does what happen in Vegas really stay in Vegas? Stay Tuned. And in the meantime, feel free to visit some of my fantastic fellow TV Bloggers [see links below] and take solace in the fact that upon my return, you’ll all be treated to a first hand account direct from theTVaddict.com’s first ever appearance at the Television Critic’s Association Press Tour. Plus, wall-to-wall Comic Con coverage. After watching the long-awa...

Comic Con Live Blog: CHUCK Panel
2009-07-25 20:09:00
10:15AM: JEFFSTER opens the CHUCK panel by bringing down the house with a unbelievable high energy performance following an intro video in which CHUCK co-creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak ‘joked’ that they had no idea what to do next now that Chuck knows Kung-Fu! 10:26AM: The genesis of JEFFSTER was courtesy of writer Allison Adler. Zach asks Vik when the CD is dropping, Vik responds, “I think we would be paid more not to sing again.” 10:27AM: In the first of many fan thank-you’s, Zachary Levi tells the audience that “we’re here because of you guys. When you have the best fans in the world who will go out and eat multiple Subway sandwiches and start grassroots campaigns and say we believe in the cast and crew. You guys are incredible. I love you so much.” 10:28AM: Josh Schwartz adds to Zach’s thank you by thanking moderator Alan Sepinwall, a hero for the show. Maureen Ryan from the Chicago Tribune, Kathy Skerry from GMMR, M...

Comic Con: Friday Round Up
2009-07-25 19:11:00
Since theTVaddict.com is essentially an operation of one, there was quite a lot that we didn’t get to at Comic Con. Which is why we thought we’d share some of the TV related tidbits we missed. Just a few. • Kiefer Sutherland discusses the possible end of 24 [HitFix] • The nerds of THE BIG BANG THEORY commune with the nerds of Comic Con [EW] • Dominic Monaghan Joins FLASH FORWARD [E! Say What? Our Comic Con Quotes of the Day!
2009-07-25 18:52:00
“OMG! You killed Penny you bastard!” — exclaimed a not-so-understanding DR. HORRIBLE fan to Joss Whedon during his Comic Con Q&A. “I forgot, she’s big here.” — said Freddie Prinze Jr who was caught off guard when the audience interrupted in applause during the 24 panel after he mentioned ‘his wife’ (Who just so happens to be Comic Con icon Sarah Michelle Gellar) “Don’t be alarmed, we do blow sh*t up,” — assured Kiefer Sutherland to an audience of 24 fans following a fairly subdued sneak peak unveiling a fairly subdued preview of 24 Season 8. “This is fantastic but at some point I need a gun because i’m starting to feel really naked. Preferably two.” — said 24’s newest CTU member Katee Sakehoff “I’ve gotten more girls playing this role. I didn’t see that coming.” — revealed Johnny Galecki, who plays lovable loser Leonard on THE BIG BANG THEORY. “Muffins and...

Comic Con Recap: Joss Whedon Talks DOLLHOUSE, DR. HORRIBLE and Why Corporat
2009-07-25 05:03:00
Move over Kevin Smith, there’s a new man who we’d like to see take his ridiculously entertaining schtick of self-depracation and hilarity on the road. His name: Joss Whedon. As you’ll quickly see from our recap of his Q&A direct from San Diego Comic Con 2009. On the future of Victor Joss Whedon : Spoiler Alert! Victor might get better, quickly. On where the idea came to cast the hilarious Alan Tyduk as a villain? I’ve met him. He’s an extraordinarily versatile actor and has actually got a fighting streak in him that you won’t see in Wash or in 28 days… no, which is the one without Sandra Bullock? One what he’s reading for inspiration. Wired Magazine is pretty much all I read and have time for. I’m reading Julie & Julia but haven’t come up with a lot for the show. We’ll save Eliza saying “bon appetite!” for sweeps. On other writers in the writer’s room coming up with ideas that make you thin...

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Things We Learned at the CAPRICA/ BATTLESTAR GAL
2009-07-25 01:23:00
Ronald D. Moore, not a fan of Emmy Voters So much so that he has a message for them: Frak you! Seriously. Completely unprovoked, Moore went off on voters after yet another year of egregious Emmy snubs. “It is a frakkin’ crime that the cast was never recognized for their performances. It is criminal.” said a visibly perturbed Moore. “We would not be talking about CAPRICA on this panel today if it were not for the ensemble of actors that we put together on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.” SyFy: Imagine Greater Less Boobies One thing that won’t be coming with CAPRICA when it makes the jump from DVD to basic cable in January is gratuitous nudity. That said, Moore does promise that when SyFy does rebroadcast the premiere, they’re planning to insert some new, never-before seen goodies. Joked fellow producer David Eick, “FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Jeffrey Reimer, who directed the pilot is known in the business for the speed in which he works. Yet somehow, on ...

Comic Con Recap: DEXTER
2009-07-24 18:15:00
Photo Credit: E!Online Roll Call: In attendance were Michael C Hall (Dexter ), Julie Benz (Rita), Jennifer Carpenter (Deb), John Lithgow (Who joins the cast this season as the Trinity Killer and oddly enough got the panel’s largest cheer) alongside Executive Producers Tony Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Clyde Phillips and Melissa Rosenberg (Who also has the dubious distinction of scripting the Twilight movies) It’s a Boy!: According to proud papa Michael C. Hall himself, “the baby [named Harrison in honor of Papa Harry] has yet to exhibit any signs of having a ‘Dark Passenger’ of his very own, but the possibility is always there.” Adds Benz, “I hope my genes take over.” Get Ready to Rumble: Those anticipating a showdown between John Litghow’s Trinity killer and Michael C. Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Shows That Make Us Tense When We Watch
2009-07-23 18:40:00
DEADLIEST CATCH Any show where you have to worry about cameramen being washed overboard by a rogue wave is sure to leave viewers on the edge of their seats. SOUTHLAND The NBC cop drama has moments so real that you half expect the bullets to fly out of the screen. The only problem? The bleeped obscenities remind you it’s just a television show. NIP/TUCK This show long ago proved that there’s no line it won’t cross. It’s gotten increasingly ridiculous over the years, but waiting for the next shoe to drop still makes it an incredibly wild ride. THE AMAZING RACE Those final “who’ll be the last team to reach the check-in” moments might be the very definition of “nail-biters.” VERMINATORS Rats, roaches, bees, spiders, gators, snakes… if you can get through a single episode of this Discovery Channel reality show without squirming, you’re a far better man than I.

Yup, it’s that time again. Those magical four days in July when this TV Addict braves the Twihards, Trekkies and err… TORCHWOOD fans [Oh My!] to bring you live coverage of all of your favorite shows (Unless of course you favorite show is LOST, in which case I’ll apologize in advance, Hall H simply isn’t gonna happen!) That said, I do expect to be interviewing quite a few of your small screen favorites and attending some incredibly cool parties and panels. The latter of which I’ve highlighted in yellow after the jump. Random Musings: FREAKS AND GEEKS, Kris Allen, Disney & More!
2009-07-23 01:08:00
Continuing our trend of highlighting TV that makes us feel really old comes a photo that this TV Addict snapped while watching our latest summer obsession FREAKS AND GEEKS. Can you guess the two big name guest stars that join John Francis Daley’s Sam Weir (on right)? If so, we’re officially impressed. Ways in which you never ever want to start off your day: By being told that you resemble Samm Levine’s Neal Schweiber from FREAKS AND GEEKS. Needless to say, we’ve had better Wednesdays. After Friday’s 90-minute crossover event WIZARDS ON DECK WITH HANNAH MONTANA netted the Disney Channel 9.2 million viewers, making it TV’s top scripted telecast this year among kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14, any guesses as to how long it will take the marketing mavens at NBC to unveil THE OFFICE ROCKS COMMUNITY? I mean Tobey Maguire we can live with. Heck, we’ve even gotten the occasional Joshua Jackson on a good hair day. But Neal Frakkin’ Schweiber!?!?...

Right Show, Wrong Time: FREAKS & GEEKS Edition
2009-07-21 21:09:00
Everybody knows what makes a hit TV show is ratings, right? But in this continuing series, we examine how today’s most popular shows would have been axed just a few short years ago… and how yesterday’s flops would be topping the charts today! In 1999, Judd Apatow produced an hour-long dramedy for NBC called FREAKS & GEEKS. Chronicling the lives of a not-so-popular group of high school students (played by a gang of then relative unknowns including Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Seth Rogen and Busy Phillips), their teachers and parents, the series was immediately hailed as brilliant by fans and critics alike, (See: Entertainment Weekly who called the show “…one of the most heartfelt and humorous TV shows of the past decade…”) Unfortunately, when your network is the home of ratings juggernauts such as FRIENDS, ER and FRASIER, which at the time still attracted 20+ million viewers an episode, six millions passionate and dedicated fans does not a hit...

Review: HELL’S KITCHEN
2009-07-21 17:47:00
By: C.T. How you feel about the latest season of Gordon Ramsay’s foulfest HELL’S KITCHEN — premiering with a two-hour debut tonight at 8PM on FOX — will depend largely on how you’ve reacted to past cycles. If you were left thinking, “Wow, I wish they’d find more obnoxious, less pleasant contestants”, you’ll probably be pleased. And if you were hoping that some of them would sink to their supposed-mentor’s level by getting in his face and being equally abusive, well, this cycle will make all your dreams come true. The new season focuses even less on actual cooking skills — and really, who thought that was even possible — and more on the obscenities which are served up with more regularity than edible meals, which seem few and far between. And it’s clear that this time around, producers have insisted upon even more conflict, with even Maitre’d Jean-Philippe getting into screaming matches with the aspiring chefs. Perhaps the most ironic moment ...

Change NBC Can Believe In
2009-07-21 16:46:00
The Hollywood Reporter is well, reporting that after much hemming and hawing, the NBC has agreed to carry tomorrow night’s Presidential News Conference (Obama’s fourth in six months!) only after the White House agreed to shift the start time from 9PM to the lesser-watched 8PM hour as to not interfere with Peacock’s only summer success, AMERICA’S GOT TALENT which will feature a much-hyped appearance by BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT phenom Susan Boyle. In other-words, change NBC can believe in.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: “Must Bring” Comic Con Essentials
2009-07-20 18:25:00
Comfortable Shoes Why? Well, measuring 1,104,309 square feet, the San Diego Convention Center stretches longer than the eye can see. A fact that you’ll become intimately familiar with as you scuttle between panels, events and the showroom floor all the while trying to navigate your way between gaggles of anime-costumed adults reenacting scenes from obscure Japanese television show you’ve never heard of. Water and Snacks Bring your own. Unless you enjoy waiting in ludicrously long lines for stale pretzels, or paying exorbitant prices for bottled water. Deodorant and Hand Sanitizer If not for yourself, then for those around you. Because after four days of walking around the petri-dish that is San Diego’s downtown core. Odds are fairly good that you (a) smell and (b) may have possibly contracted swine flu.
