SRK:I'm not important person
2008-05-09 08:19:00
Shah Rukh and success have become quite synonymous with time proving the winning mettle of the King Khan in Bollywood. The star has now become an ideal for youth struggling for winning a place not only in the film industry but also in other sectors. Let us know about the recipe of success from the King Khan himself. Is it ‘luck’ or ‘hard work’ that is required for attaining success? “See, success, with me, looks easy as I always prefer to stay smiling. Actually, while pursuing success, one always has to keep in mind the negative outcome of his effort. Now, take for example a bad guy. While he does something for his business, does he think of it as executing bad things? Not at all. Actually, he looks out for his justification and then never feels bad for anything he does. In the same way we also can do anything keeping in mind the positive aspects of the matter but at the same time we cannot forget the disarraying aspects the project can lead us to. Y...

I regret not working with SRK
2008-05-09 08:15:00
Vivah Amrita Rao was looking for that role which would take her beyond the old-world elegance of Sooraj Barjatya's imagination. She has at last found the right project. "When I got a call from Shyam Benegal's office saying he wanted to meet him I was over the moon. He has always been on my wish list. And when that call came I pinched myself. I didn't ask any questions. I immediately said yes. He has told me nothing much about my character and the script. After I saw what he did with Karisma Kapoor in Zubeida I just felt I should be directed by him. I'm very excited. For a while I was traveling. When I returned I met him, and we were on." Amrita loved subject. "I play a village girl and the film entitled Mahadev was shot in Hyderabad. My co-star is Shreyas Talpade. I saw his work in Dor. And I absolutely adored him. " Shyam Benegal hasn't seen Amrita in any film, not even Vivah. "What really excites me is that I get to do a workshop. With Soorajji there...

Prakash Jha's next directorial venture Rajniti is going to be the most expensive film he as ever produced. In it he blends contemporary Indian politics with chapters from the Mahabharat in a mix that promises to be the avant-garde director's headiest yet. And Prakash has accumulated a formidable cast of actors. "There's Ajay Devgan who will play a modern-day Karn. And believe it or not, Nana Patekar who was fantastic as the corrupt politician in Apharan, has been cast as Krishna !" Also in the cast are Viveik Oberoi and Manoj Bajpai in pivotal roles. "These are actors I've not worked with before. I'm looking forward to directing them. Ajay and Nana are old friends. We share a fantastic comfort level." In fact recently Marathi Manoos Nana and Bihari Bhai Prakash took part in a passionate debate on the oust-Biharis-from-Maharashtra campaign on NDTV. Bollywood is just one part of Indian cinema: Nandita Das
2008-05-06 07:57:00
Nandita Das has been called a filmstar 'with a social conscience, more keen to talk about women's empowerment and human rights than participate in the glamour of Bollywood .   Das gets candid on her directorial debut 'In Such Times, her controversial choice of film roles in 'Fire' and 'Bawandar', an emotional visit to Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Tsunami, and the honour of being a juror at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.   Q. So when most people around the world think of Indian cinema, I guess you know, automatically Bollywood springs to mind. As an Indian actress, though, you don't seem to want any part of the Bollywood, sort of you know, saccharine sugarness, do you think that's true?   I didn't want to ever be an actor to begin with, so my journey was, you kind of stumbled upon acting and you think well, it's interesting, it's another world, there are stories you can tell, you can be part of these wonderful stories, and that's how I've see...

'Abhi inspires me not Hrithik'
2008-05-06 07:38:00
In an industry where passing the buck is a favourite past time, Zayed Khan's endearing candour comes as a pleasant surprise. "Last year I was down and bed-ridden for months on-end because of a slipped disc Speed did get delayed because of me. Maybe I subconsciously chose Anubhav Sinha's Cash and Vikram Bhatt's Speed because they required me to exert myself physically. After being confined in bed, and getting all the time to retrospect, I wanted to return with stuff that would prove I was as physically fit as I used to be before the bad back. I guess this penchant to prove a point runs in my family. Look at Duggu (brother-in-law Hrithik Roshan). He has been quite a portrait of defiant self-improvement."

Q. What type of woman do you dig? A. Somebody simple in mind, and flexible in thought. She's also got to be extremely self-confident. Q. Ideal romantic vacation? A. Any exotic beach resort. Q. Which woman inspires you the most? A. My mother, she's a perfect woman — a blend of a perfect wife and a perfect mother. Q. Are men from Mars and women from Venus? A. For sure, they are planets apart! Q. Can a man and a woman ever have a platonic relationship? A. Of course, they can. If one starts looking beyond the physical form of each other, then relationships can indeed be platonic. Q. One-night stand or commitment? A. Commitment.  Q. Hottest woman in tinsel town? A. That would have to be my girl, Yana Gupta. Q. Your first crush? A. It was my 5th Standard English teacher. I was really good in the subject, thanks to her. I was very shy, but never missed a single class. Q. What would you do if you found that your girl swung both ways? A. I would ask her to make a choice....

I can't do sleazy double-meaning comedies. That's one reason why I enjoyed doing Krazzy 4," he says from Goa where he's shooting for Gol Maal Returns. "It's so hot here. "I never thought fatherhood the second time would be so special, so exhilarating. I can't take my eyes off the baby …He is soooooooo beautiful!!" Hrithik's voice brims over with paternal pride. Any disappointment for the fact that the second child wasn't a girl as Hrithik wanted? "Earlier before the baby came I did want a girl this time, yes. To complete the family picture. But the minute I saw my mew baby's face I was as content as I could be…In fact he has already had his first photo-session, ha ha. The entire family of about 35 people except my Dad is here. Bollywood's bikini mania!
2008-05-02 07:51:00
Watching Kareena Kapoor emerge from the crystal-blue waters of Greece in Tashan I thought of all those leading ladies over the years who made a splash in an itsybitsy bikini, not necessarily yellow or polka-dotted. But wait. We are jumping the gun. Before the bikini beckoned Bollywood babes there was the simple one-piece bathing costume. A lot of actresses would baulk at the very thought of getting into a swimming suit. And even if they did wear stockings covering their entire exposed leg region. Now who on earth gets aqueous in stockings?! Nargis did wear a bathing costume in Raj Kapoor’s Awara for the song Dum bhar jo udhar mooh phere. Since then RK never stopped drenching the damsels in distress in a bath-roop. Ultra-conservative Vyjanthimala would have never dreamt of getting into a bathing costume(bc). She did it happily enough for RK in Sangam where he played Krishna on a tree with a pied pipe instead of a flute singing Bol radha rol. Many decades later Rishi Kapoor ...

Bollywood says 'love you Maharashtra'
2008-05-02 07:49:00
Maharashtra divas was celebrated in Mumbai on May 1 and the Dutt family celebrated it with thousands of people including some Bhojpuri celebrities. "I'm not a politician who can give speech but I will give you love," said Sanjay Dutt. Sanjay Dutt along with his sister Priya Dutt attended the function. It was perhaps an attempt to show love and belongingness for Maharshtra by those recently targetted by some politicians for being north Indians. It's the film industry once again, which brought Maharshtrians and non-Maharashtrians together on Maharashtra Day.

'One Two Three' has turned out to be a success and for many in the industry it has been nothing less than a pleasant surprise. After all not many expected an underdog comedy like 'One Two Three', which was panned unanimously by all the critics, to even sail through past the safety mark let alone turn out to be a money spinner. However, the trade figures have caught everyone by surprise with close to 20 crores coming in collections just from the Indian market. Says Tusshar Kapoor , lead star of 'One Two Three', in an exhilarated tone, "If success in India was not just good enough, it is the overseas run of the film which has been simply fantabulous. 'One Two Three' now stands as my biggest success in overseas ever while in India, too, it is second only to 'Shoot Out At Lokhandwala'." Did the film's all around success come to him as a surprise? Especially so after there were not too many kind words in the media about the film which centered on lingerie jokes....

2008-05-02 07:41:00
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan , owner of Kolkata IPL team, says he is confident that his team will win the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 trophy. A day after Kolkata IPL team faced their second consecutive defeat losing to Mumbai IPL team on their home ground Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, Shah Rukh on Wednesday reposed his trust in the team. "We Kolkata IPL team are positive. We know that we will win some matches and lose some. But ultimately the IPL trophy will be ours," Shah Rukh said before leaving the city. After starting their campaign on a high note winning their first two matches - against Bangalore IPL team and Deccan IPL team, the Sourav Ganguly-led Kolkata IPL team lost to Punjab IPL team and then a resurgent Mumbai IPL team on Tuesday night. Is the team not at all affected by the defeats? "The seniors like Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting know that to achieve success you have to understand and accept failure. But the youngsters in the team ...

Passport problem for Pakistani singers worries Bollywood
2008-05-02 07:40:00
A passport problem for Pakistani artists is forcing Bollywood composer Pritam Chakraborty to rush to Lahore to record a song with Atif Aslam for the upcoming film “Kismat Konnection”. “I need to urgently record a song with Atif for Aziz Mirza’s ‘Kismat Connection’, but he is suddenly having problems with his passport. So he can’t come to Mumbai, I’m flying down to Lahore to record the song with him,” Pritam, who composed music for films like “Life…In a Metro”, told IANS. Despite all the talk of amity, solidarity and free-flowing cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, artists from the neighbouring country seem to be finding it hard to obtain permission to come to Mumbai to record songs. Pritam has consistently and tellingly used Pakistani voices - the latest being Atif in the “Race” track “O jaan-e-jaana”. He doesn’t mind making the trip to Lahore because he has more busines...

Issue-based films still a no-no for Bollywood producers
2008-04-30 07:58:00
For decades, the world'''s largest movie industry by volumes has rolled out stereotypical scripts on boy-meets-girl romances, dramas and comedies. But in recent years, there has been a noticeable move towards bolder, more mature themes aimed at audiences interested in a good story, not just glitzy song-and-dance routines. "Taare Zameen Par" - about a boy suffering from the learning disability dyslexia - achieved both commercial and critical success last year. But Bollywood producers are not giving up on regular films just yet.

Shake Your Bollywood
2008-04-30 07:52:00
It's 7 o'clock on a Saturday evening. In a new dance studio in Dubai, a technolike beat begins playing, accelerating as a high-pitched female voice sings in Hindi: "You are my world. Such is my love." On the wooden floor, accountants, publicists, and other businesspeople dance with abandon. They shuffle their feet, twist and wriggle their hips, and flail their arms, taking cues for the Bollywood -style number from their dance teacher, Rinku, who until recently was working in Mumbai. It's common knowledge that the Indian film industry is big business the 800 or so movies released in more than 25 Indian languages each year bring in $1.5 billion in revenue. Bollywood technically Mumbai's Hindi-language-films business accounts for a third of releases and is the most visible and popular segment of the Indian movie industry. And as its worldwide audience, now estimated at 3.6 billion, grows, so does the energetic dance style which mixes folk, classical, and pop influences it...
Hrithik returns 30crore cheque
2008-04-30 07:34:00
The buzz about the multi-crore deal that Hrithik had struck with Adlabs last year is that it's off! Hrithik wants to return the full amount to Adlabs. But the company is not willing to take a no for an answer. According to a source, "Hrithik has given the cheque back. But they aren't accepting it. In fact they've asked him to keep the money and they'll make just one film instead of three films for that whole amount with him at a date convenient to him." Hrithik won't comment on the status of his deal with Adlabs. All he'll say about star prices is, "The corporate companies are looking at the movie market expanding in the next 3-4 years. I agree many recent films haven't done well. But Om Shanti Om and Jodhaa-Akbar reaffirmed the industry's faith in big films. Jodhaa-Akbar was a period film and above three hours long with no commercial trappings. Theatres across India could've just four shows daily. And it's done 150 crore-rupee business worldwide. Cheerleaders being wrapped cricketer being slapped, Is cricket turning into a Tamasha? Bollywood reacts... Celina Jaitley : "No I don't think cricket has become a tamasha. I think everything that's happening at the IPL is being turned into a tamasha. Sreesanth being slapped is very unfortunate. I feel that the spirit of sportsmanship which makes every sport noble is now going out of cricket. Sad. Hema Malini: "Yes, cricket has become a big tamasha. The dignity of the game is completely lost. Cricket by itself is so engrossing. Why does it suddenly need women to cheer on the players and the public? There's absolutely no need for such distractions. The Indian public had no clue about such entertainment (cheerleaders) before this. And now there's slapping during the game! I am shocked. Bollywood women get into business too
2008-04-29 08:11:00
If the men are doing it so are the women. From opening restaurants to starting hotels, actresses are also blurring the lines between the worlds of Bollywood and business. While actors like Mithun Chakraborty, Shah Rukh Khan and Suniel Shetty are thriving in the business world, their counterparts Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta are also giving them tough competition. Sushmita was probably the first to turn entrepreneur when she set up her company Sensazione in 2006. Through her company, she plans to open a chain of hotels, lounges and spas. Besides, she has acquired 12,000 sq ft of space in Kolkata for a 'lifestyle zone', which apart from a huge open space will house a nightclub, a restaurant and a cigar lounge. She says frankly that she was tired of being an actor and business had always been a second career option. "Had I not been an actor, I would have been an entrepreneur. The lounge bar in Kolkata and my dream project, the spa, are all part of my effort to...

Yash Raj Films has lost it now
2008-04-29 07:56:00
The boom time for the Mumbai film industry is not translating into windfalls for top Bollywood production house Yash Raj Films (YRF), with its first offering of 2008, "Tashan", failing to live up to the hype. While in 2007, YRF's tally of flops outweighed that of hits, their first release this year has failed to charm critics and the audience response to "Tashan" has not been too heartening. Though heavy on formula and style, the film starring the reigning star of the box-office, Akshay Kumar, and media's favourite star couple, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, has no story to tell. Seems that writer-director Vijay Krishna Acharya was so busy packaging egos that he forgot what he wanted to say in "Tashan". The fact that "Tashan" did not release in several multiplexes due to a long-standing tiff with cinema hall owners over sharing of revenues has been a major dampener. The country's top production house has been trying to get multiplex ow...

A thing Emraan can't share!!!
2008-04-29 07:47:00
One look at Emraan Hashmi's filmography and you know that the young man loves to do films which aren't too crowded for comfort. With Vivek Agnihotri's 'Chocolate' as an exception which had Anil Kapoor, Suneil Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Irrfan Khan for his company, Emraan has mainly done two/single hero projects. While 'Murder' (Ashmit Patel), 'Gangster' (Shiney Ahuja), 'Good Boy Bad Boy' (Tusshar Kapoor) and 'Aksar' (Dino Morea) did have another male lead sharing screen space, Emraan still managed to tower above his contemporaries in most of the projects. Now his upcoming 'Jannat' is a solo hero project, just as 'Awarapan' and 'The Train' were last year. Is it a conscious move? "More than being termed as a conscious move, I would term it is a well thought move", says Emraan after a brief pause, "For me the film should work for me and I should be able to work for the film. It has to be mutual." Please elaborate. "I don't want to be a part o...

Here's competition for Hrithik
2008-04-26 08:09:00
Watch out. Bollywood is turning super-athletic. Not only are we being treated to a series of sport-centric films like Shimit Amin's Chak De (hockey), Vivek Agnihotri's Goal (football) amd Nisha Chainani's forthcoming Mumbai Marathon, our heroes are constantly searching out new adventure-sports for Hindi films. In Dhoom 2 we had Hrithik practising water and ice sports that Indian audiences had never seen. In Anubhav Sinha's forthcoming Cash Riteish Deshmukh did Street Luge which is actually about lying down on a skateboard and chasing cars. It looks like Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and all other super-atheletes of Bollywood have stiff competition. By practicing the bracing outdoor sports called Parkour Harman Baweja has just become Indian cinema's first certifiable Traceur. Explains Harman, "Parkour is actually urban free running.
