'I tortured hell out of Prachi'
2008-04-26 07:51:00 Ekta Kapoor made her blue-eyed girl Prachi Desai of 'Kasamh Se' fame work harder than other actors before relieving her from Balaji Telefilms because the TV tycoon didn't want to be accused of favouritism. 'Honestly, Prachi is like a part of our family. My father, mother and I have adopted her. But as a producer I tortured the hell out of her. I made her work harder than any of my actors just because I was so close to her. Prachi feels that was unfair. But I didn't want to be accused of favouritism. Now she's moved on,' Ekta told. 'Other actors have to give a two-three months notice before they leave Balaji. But I made her give me five months' notice. I made her do extra work. At one time the poor kid was shooting for me, for her film with Farhan Akhtar 'Rock On' and for Sony's reality show 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa' all at once. She was on the verge of collapse and we asked her to stop. But look at her spirit. Prachi insisted on continuing,' she added. Ekta has decided to... More About: Hell

Only hard work pays in Bollywood: Neha Oberoi
2008-04-25 08:18:00 Director Sanjay Gupta’s niece and budding actress Neha Oberoi, who features in the upcoming film “Woodstock Villa”, does not believe that having connections in Bollywood helps in the long run. “In the film industry nobody would guide you just because you are the son or daughter of some celebrity. In the long run, only hard work and an actor’s acting skills help,” Neha told IANS on phone from Mumbai. “In fact, it becomes more difficult because viewers’ expectations increase manifold,” she added. Hansal Mehta’s “Woodstock Villa” is an action-thriller and the launch pad of Kirron Kher’s son Sikander Kher. In the film, Neha plays the role of an aspiring model, Reshma, who can go to any extent to reach her goal fast. She said: “Work ing with Hansal and Sikander was a wonderful experience. Hrithik Roshan is the hottest man: Amrita Rao
2008-04-25 07:58:00 Q. If you had to date a historical character, who would he be and why? A. I guess it must be Bhagat Singh. I have worked in the movie The Legend of Bhagat Singh and was very much inspired by him. At the young age of 23, he was hanged for the sacrifices he made for our country. It's not easy to make yourself be heard like that. Q. What if the guy you like turns out to be a gay? A. He would still be a good friend of mine. Q. If you are going out on a date and someone makes a pass at you, would you want your guy to fight with that man? A. I have seen that happening in movies and have always been inspired when Shah Rukh Khan does something like that in Baazigar and Darr. Q. Among the current crop of Bollywood stars, who do you think is the hottest? A. Aamir is my favorite. I think Hrithik is also perfect in terms of looks, height and body. Q. Your first crush? A. Hollywood, Bollywood seek to stamp out piracy together
2008-04-24 08:11:00 The American entertainment industry wants to join hands with India to eliminate counterfeiting and piracy that costs Bollywood an estimated loss of $4 billion and 800,000 direct jobs each year. Leading entertainment companies from Hollywood and Bollywood came together at an India super-session show organised by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) of America in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Now that we've quantified the losses, we're working with government and industry to eliminate counterfeiting and piracy at the source," said Greg Kalbaugh, director and counsel at US India Business Council (USIBC), an advocacy group seeking to advance India-US commercial ties. "The first step is supporting India's adoption of sensible legislation which regulates the production of optical discs. That will have an immediate impact on the rates of counterfeiting and piracy," he said. "The Indian entertainment industry is growing at a combined annual rate of over 18 percen... I confess, I am a selfish actor: Kajol
2008-04-24 08:00:00 'U, Me Aur Hum' may not have got a great opening like Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om, but Kajol is happy that she was a part of the project. When I meet her at her actor-director husband Ajay Devgan's office in Juhu, Kajol confesses that it was not very tough to play the role. Kajol adds that she was confident that people would be able to identify with the role, when Ajay narrated the role to her. Here is a chat with the actor. "I had a superb director to back me. I should undoubtedly give the entire credit to my director for the ease with which the character of Piya has unfolded on the screen in 'U, Me Aur Hum'. The best thing that I liked about my character in the film was that besides the fact that she was normal and not handicapped in any way, Piya had a wicked sense of humor and at the same time, she was a little vulnerable too." Kareena's secret diet revealed
2008-04-24 07:39:00 There have been enough speculation on Kareena Kapoor's crash dieting and enough stories about her fainting on the sets. All these rumours are just that – rumours. Kareena's Nutritionist and Diet ician, Rujuta Diwekar, has revealed the true story of the actor's diet and eating habits. Kareena met Diwekar in May 2007, and the latter has been the actor's dietician since then. Apparently, Kareena gave Diwekar a brief about her character – that she had to be lean and sexy. Diwekar knew that Kareena is a pure vegetarian, and wondered if she could lose the required amount of weight by going on a vegetarian diet. She put the actor on a diet that consisted of healthy nutritious food. Kareena has been eating parathas, momos, cheese, pasta, bananas and other food that are perceived as fattening. "Contrary to reports in the media, Kareena did not starve herself, and neither did she subsist only on orange juice. There were also stories that she fainted on the sets, but that... Just another day in the life of Shah Rukh Khan
2008-04-23 07:46:00 Six matches in four days is not the kind of sample any self-respecting scientist would rely upon to draw Nobel-prize-winning conclusions, but the Spin is not a self-respecting scientist and its Nobel can wait. So far, the Indian Premier League has supplied two truly outstanding innings (Brendon McCullum and Mike Hussey), one world-class opening ceremony, one last-over finish (and even then the Bangalore Royal Challengers only needed two off six balls to beat the Mumbai Indians), one floodlight failure and at least one minor lathi charge (the Spin was almost caught up in the stampede outside the Wankhede on Sunday night but bravely fought its way out of trouble/stepped neatly to the side). The fiasco at Eden Gardens, where the embarrassment over the temporary darkness was made worse by a minefield of a pitch, has been the one obvious clanger. But you do not have to delve too far beneath the surface to discern more subtle discord. Top of the agenda in some quarters is the extent to wh... Afghan TV station defies Taleban and President Karzai and keeps Bollywood s
2008-04-23 07:43:00 Kabul’s biggest private television station has defied a government order to take Indian soap operas off the air, insisting that it was issued at the behest of religious conservatives trying to “re-Taleban ise” Afghanistan. More and more viewers are addicted to the Bombay-made dramas tales of family life with thin storylines, wooden acting and poor production values, but which have captured the Afghan imagination. The soaps have caused a huge debate. Prime-time viewing is a battleground between liberals and conservatives, with President Hamid Karzai backing the order to take the dramas off the air by yesterday’s deadline after months of dispute. At least one station complied, but last night viewers were able to watch Tulsi – its full title is “Because a Mother-in-Law Was Once a Daughter-in-Law too” which is said to be the most popular programme in Afghanistan, and Kasauti Zindagi Kay (Trials of Life). Dumped Kim shuns men now!
2008-04-23 07:37:00 Kim Sharma, who made a sensational debut in the superhit Yash Raj film, Mohabattein, along with a handful of newcomers. Ever since she has been identified with her dare-bare image and acidic tongue. Quite an explosive combination. She did a couple of films after a long wait, too, but they sank without being noticed. What was noticed all over was her hitching up with cricket stud Yuvraj Singh and reportedly even getting engaged, but they headed for splitsville after a torrid two years. Who dumped whom has been the speculation ever since, but one thing she has been firm about is, once snapped, it remains snapped, and she couldn't be bothered to follow either Yuvraj's sixers or fielding with Deepika Padukone. But good to see that Kim's busy as a bee all over again. Good for her, too. Of late, she has been constantly shuttling between shoots and what's more, quite enjoying the hectic schedule. There have been rumours of new men in her life after Yuvraj, too, but the girl is typic...
Twenty20 actress gets 1 crore
2008-04-23 07:29:00 While we are always reading the accounts books of the leading men in Bollywood or Down South, most often the leading ladies are relegated and do not count. Though in Bollywood too some of them demand a crore and a half to even Rs 3 crorer, as in the case of Kareena Kapoor who has always managed to strike gold even when she had a series orf flops under her belt. Down South, the film may do a jig at the box-office in direct relation to the heroine's wiggles and jiggles, but despite all that, it's the Chiranjeevis and Ajiths and Rajanikanths who sit atop the heaps of currency notes. Now, it seems a ravishing actress joins the big league in terms of fees, Nayantara. The Malayalee actress has signed on the dotted line of a Tamil film at Rs 1 crore. Thereby she becomes the highest paid Southern actress, at least Malayalee actress, in Indian films. The yet untitled film is directed by indiarubber man Prabhudeva who has already delivered a hit in his debuting directorial venture, Pokkir... More About: Actress

Is Hrithik Roshan a strict dad?
2008-04-22 07:55:00 The one treat that Hrithik 's little son looked forward to on his second birthday recently was …chocolate cake! Little Hrehaan isn't allowed that bit of culinary indulgence. Says the protective papa, "He can have all kinds of cake…except chocolate. I feel his body doesn't need it for the first few years.Actually you don't need chocolate at all at any stage of your life. It just displaces your hunger for proper food. That really bothers me. The moment a child has a chocolate he grows addicted. I allow Hrehaan to have all kinds of cakes. But not chocolate. As it is, from the time he has a life of his own with his friends he'll have all the access to chocolate.Believe me I know." So is Hrithik a strict dad? "Only as far as Hrehaan's diet is concerned. As a child I ate the wrong kind of food. In my later years I really had to clean myself up. It was really tough, and I don't want Hrehaan to go through it. So I'm conditioning him to do the right... 2008-04-22 07:48:00 Dreams are the stuff television tycoon Ekta Kapoor's career are made of. Now her 40-inch screen dreams are about to acquire a 70 mm vision. Ekta Kapoor, for long besieged by space problems for her myriad serials currently being shot in studio complexes in Mumbai owned by Balajee Films, is now planning to build her own film city. Says a source very close to the project, "Ekta has always felt bogged by the lack of physical and creative space. We at Balajee can never capture the mythical 'Magic Hour' from the movies in our serials because we've to ration our time on the roads and public places. Ekta plans to build a whole studio complex, not unlike Nitin Desai's studio in Karjat, with inbuilt roads and lanes so that we get an epic feel into our soaps, and we can control the lighting. If you see Raj Kapoor or Bhansali's films you can see the quality and texture of lighting is unique. Ekta wants that quality in her serials." Ekta is planning to build her own film city o... Bachchans front Bollywood film on power plant debacle
2008-04-22 07:42:00 In the first on-screen appearance with her husband since getting married, Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan takes the lead as a powerful executive in Sarkar Raj (Absolute Ruler). The film that will also star her father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, and her husband, Abhishek Bachchan, will hit the screens on June 6, the film's director said at a press conference Monday. Sarkar Raj is loosely based on the controversy around an Enron power plant built in India's western state of Maharashtra a decade ago. Director Ram Gopal Varma however defended the movie as original. It "has no reference point and was a completely original script," Varma said, according to the Press Trust of India. More About: Power , Film , Front , Plant
Before battle, Mallya takes on SRK
2008-04-21 07:42:00 It is not just a war on the cricket field. Even before the game begins Royal Challengers boss Vijay Mallya has taken on his opponent for today's (April 18) match -- the Badhshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan. Its a battle between two legends in their own right. One is a celebrated liquor baron and the other the Badshah of Bollywood. Vijay Mallya and Shahrukh Khan will be pitted against each other when their teams clash in the inaugural match of cricket's Summer Slam. The man at the helm of the Royal Challengers has set the war of words alight by taking a jibe at Shahrukh's Kolkata Knight Riders. Vijay Mallya said, "Shahrukh Khan is a superstar and I am not. But, his stardom will not count on the cricket field. It will all depend on which team plays better cricket and I stand by the fact that we are a good team." 'I prefer gizmos to girlfriends'
2008-04-21 07:40:00 Has Dino Morea got all wired up? No, nothing to do with his tensions, girlfriends or largest number of duds at the box-office. Dino is a gizmo freak. From the i-pod to the i-Mac, some are compulsive acquirers, they havce them all, and want them all, and some more. Gizmos give them an adrenalim rush and a high than perhaps no superhit or supergirl friend could. Too bad for the filmmakers and the arm candy. Dino Morea is nothing if not a clued in guy and all wired up. He is the proud owner of nearly all the product series you name in the market, and never seems to have enough of them. He already had the i-pod and the i-phone, and now has gone and bought himself a brand new Macbook Air . He dimpled wickedly and said, "It is unbelievable how light in weight it is...it has all the features that I always wanted and which are really exciting to learn and explore, especially with its track-pad." Oops, he's done it again, as Kylie Minogue sang for herself years ago! More About: Girlfriends

After tasting success with her very first film, the young girl has moved on to sign four big banner films in a row. As Kumar Mangat's 'Money Hai Toh Honey Hai' gets ready for release where she is cast opposite Govinda, the promos really look promising, and the girl will be seen cracking up the comic verses for the very first time! According to our sources, the actress has signed four big banner films recently, but Hansikaa, as all stars do, is tightlipped about the projects. Only time will tell us whether there is indeed 'Honey' in these roles she has taken up!!
Aamir is back to his wild ways
2008-04-21 07:32:00 Mr Perfectionist has just got another bellyache. Or is it one he's giving others, again? In the recent past, his production of Taare Zameen Par, saw the original director and writer of the film, Amole Gupte, being sidelined and the producer-star of the film, massively rewrote the film and took over the reins, too. He gave due credit to Gupte, but the scrap caused a lot of heartburn to Gupte, naturally. It was small consolation that the film was appreciated very much by the audieneces as well as critics. Now, Aamir Khan's production of Delhi Belly seems to have caused heartburn and a bellyache too. The first to the original director of Delhi Belly, and the second to Aamir Khan, to be sure. Or is it that Aamir is giving a lot of bellyaches to just about everyone around? These pre-production aches and post-production heartburns are not usual for Mr Khan, and he would probably have quite a stomach upset if he didn't play Mr Perfectionist all the time. While the directorial respo... More About: Wild , Back
We don't regret marriage prank: Malaika and Arbaaz
2008-04-21 07:30:00 The shocking story on the end of one of filmdom's most durable marriages rocked Mumbai yesterday. Turned out, it was part of a well-planned campaign to promote a line of cosmetics. A shocking and unethical illustration of how the media is used and manipulated to generate curiosity and interest in consumer products. Malaika Arora who was part of the campaign seemed pretty uncomfortable with the situation What is this about your marriage in serious trouble? Nothing. All is well in paradise. No serious or even non-serious trouble in our marriage Let me get it straight. You did this as part of advertisement campaign? It is part of an ad campaign for a product that Arbaaz and I are launching. Rather re-launching. See, the concept of the ad is that he comes towards the end and re-proposes to me. What was told to the press was that Arbaaz was getting remarried. I don't know how when where they came up with the rest (of the story). But Malaika, if you say your husband is getting re-marrie...
