Nokia Handset Concept By Heikki Juvonen
2008-11-11 20:46:00
“Product design should be user-orientated. Good ergonomics, usability, user interface, looks and materials should come standard." - So says Heikki Juvonen, designer of this Nokia concept mobile phone. Whilst Juvonen might well uphold this stance as his work ethic, his attitude is to let technology hang in the balance. That's literally speaking, of course, as this compact handset allows for the bulk workings to rest at the bottom, making for a still-mini yet aesthetically pleasingly chunky design which is high on user-friendly ergonomics, as promised.Visit Heikki Juvonen online at www.heikkijuvonen.com Via: Design Launches Read More

The Floating House By Confused-Direction
2008-11-11 20:42:00
The Floating House  (or Das Schwimmhaus) may, with its prefab style set aboard a floating platform as if a cabin, seem like a confused direction, but, in fact, this German-designed and German-moored home is making good use of urban density and sprirally living costs for its owners. Combining the dual experiences of Germany design company Confused-Direction 's Flo Florian (interior design) and Sascha Akkermann (master carpentry,) The Floating House fulfils the increasingly modern craving for a new type of existential habitat, and one which works with our pocket alongside the planet. Sourcing a local workforce committed to sustainability and re-usability, Florian and Akkermann have created a home which is not only eco-friendly in regards to building materials, but also in allowing the inhabitants a grassed-roof garden area. Financially speaking, this kind of home makes sense particularly for those on a quest for uber-contemporary living on a budget as a recent Grand Desig...

The Harmonium in My Memory
2008-11-11 19:27:00
The year is 1963 and in the rural Kang Won province of Korea a dashing new teacher sets hearts a-flutter and a love triangle in motion in Lee Young-jae’s gentle love story. Lee Young-jae’s debut feature is a beautifully simplistic antidote to the Hollywood romance. Telling the sweet and unaffected tale of a first love, The Harmonium in My Memory is a subtly engaging rural drama with a delicately balanced affection at its core. Yun Hong-yeon (Jeon Do-yeon) is 17 and when good looking and kindly young teacher Mr.Kang (Lee Byeong-heon) comes to town he immediately captures her heart. Unfortunately for Hong-yeon, however, Mr.Kang is in turn rather taken with pretty fellow teacher Miss Yang (Lee Mi-yeon) and the attempts by each to woo the object of their affection make up this lovely, touching, and, above all else, completely uncontrived drama. Where a Hollywood director would gleefully take the subject of a schoolgirl’s first crush and manipulate it, patronise, or unn...

Britain's Best Broadband Deals ("The Gadget Show")
2008-11-11 00:01:00
Tonight's edition of The Gadget Show enables me to give you both a fresh scoop of technologically informative goodness whilst simultaneously getting a whinge off my chest. Yes, it's the notoriously dodgy field of broadband providers tonight, a field I have considerable experience with (hence the whinge) and one which has been briefly de-mystified thanks to the Jon Test segment of the show.Anybody embarking on the goddamn annoyance that is installing broadband will know that even prior to the major ball ache that is physically installing the damn thing (many expletives have been expressed Chez Wilson in regards to routers,) you have to choose the best bloody deal. Of course, price is a prime factor, but there are others variables at hand such as speed and download limit when one is to get oneself connected. In Britain's Best Broadband Deals, the advice to happy shoppers is to visit simplifydigital.co.uk for deal info, and that most users will need no more than 15 ...

Brian Yuzna To Produce 3D Feature Trio!
2008-11-10 22:21:00
Oh my! There's film news and there's super-good film news, and this little tidbit certainly falls into the latter. Has anyone ever told you I love 3D movies (yeah, you, every time you see me)? Ok, I probably did tell ya before, but 3D movies are one of my most favouritest things for giving a bit of kiddified magic into the piss and shit world of adulthood. Well, a less well-known fact could be that I also really rather adore Brian Yuzna for having a hand in some of my fave horrors (Society, Re-Animator, The Dentist, Necronomicon, Dagon,) ergo, with all the remake/sequel news to boot, this unique piece really excites me. This trio of goodness, the first of which will be giant sea scorpion-based Amphibious (!), is to be Indonesia-made in conjunction with distributor Queen Imperial Films. The second 3D feature output from this shingle will be Necronauts, a Terry Bisson-written journey into the realm of death which will be helmed by Lawnmower Man's Brett Le...

Phoenix Seagaia Resort, Miyazaki, Japan - World's Largest Indoor Water Park
2008-11-10 22:13:00
When I was a child, we would always make the annual pilgrimage to what I shall rather lavishly call 'The Westcountry's Riviera' i.e. Weston-Super-Mare (one year we wandered off-course to nearby Barry Island, somewhat of a poor man's Weston, which my Granddad told me was full of 'sewage', and learning that meant 'poo' meant the day wasn't entirely wasted). Nestled in this fishy-seaside-stinking town was what can only be termed the Poor Man's Seagaia - The Tropicana (or Trocadero to my Gran)  - a seemingly wonderous place of super-fun indoor, open-air, pool-based excitement, with a large pineapple slide as the focal point. Well, needless to say, this humble and now defunct centre of money-conscious entertainment (we kids were happy enough until geographical awareness heightened discontent and brought with it realisations of poverty) pales in comparison to the Phoenix Seagaia Resort in Miyazaki, Japan . Though I ...

Fi's Five Fave Short Films!

It's time for part 2 in the sometimes series that I like to call Lists here at late Film, with today's rather titularly self-explanatory list coming luke warm off the heels of Fi's Fave Films ! - An Alternative List. Back when late night TV was great here in the UK, I would avidly watch short films from the random showings on Channel 4 (some, such as Alison De Vere's The Black Dog, were regulars) to less random collections on Shooting Gallery. For as long as I've loved film, I've loved short film, for there is something so powerful and emotive in these short few minutes. Yes indeed, I loves me a short film, and here is my pick of top 5 fave's...1. The Tale Of The Rat That Wrote (Billy O'Brien, 1999)Anyone who knows me will tell you I just simply adore rodents, so it's probably unsurprising, then, that my favorite short would feature a rat.
