Amazing Spiral Bridges
2008-01-12 20:58:00 Nanpu Bridge with a spiral approachSimilar spiral skyway graces the approach to the Nanpu Bridge over the Huangpu River, located at the South Dock in Shanghai, China. Drivers are allowed to go only clockwise... no, just kidding.Double Spiral Bridge in Japan The Kawazu-Nanadaru Loop Bridge consists of two spirals, each 1.1 km long, 80-meter in diameter - the only way for traffic to get down the mountainside into the valley, too steep for any other usual road-building solutions. The busy Route 414 serves the weekend crowd from Tokyo, intent to wind down at the hot springs resort of the Izu Peninsula. The "winding down" bit obviously starts at this bridge. Built in 1981, the double-spiral structure demands careful driving - the speed limit on the bridge is only 30 km/h, which also helps to better enjoy the views. More About: Bridges , Amazing

New Sony Camera Technology: No Smile No Picture
2007-12-05 20:11:00 Sony is releasing new digital cameras with a new face detection technology called ?smile shutter?, which will take pictures only if there is a smile present. The camera models incorporating this technology will have prices starting from $350. Using face-detection technology, the 8-megapixel, DSC-T70 and DSC-T200 Cyber-shot cameras won't snap a high-definition picture until a selected subject smiles. This super-smart technology tells when someone?s smiling, firing the shutter at exactly the right moment, you press the shutter down once to focus and then the technology will take the shot only when the subject smiles. And for even better looking results, Face Detection automatically adjusts focus and exposure settings for clear, natural looking portraits with lifelike skin tones.Source: Sony More About: Technology , Camera , Sony , Picture , Smile

Optical Illusions
2007-05-26 09:47:00 Impossible Staircase On this page you'll find impossible, or rather, endless stairs. Depending on what direction you're going, you'll be ascending or descending forever. At first sight it's hard to understand how this is possible. Just remember it's a drawing. The yellow steps on your side end on top of the green steps. In fact they should end much lower, around the red steps. The staircase is drawn tilted. although it doesn't seem that way.Amazing Wooden StructureDice Impossible Object/Impossible triangle illusion This is a very cool visual effect. A great optical illusion. It looks like this is the good old ?penrose triangle? or ?impossible triangle?, but this time it is made out of dice! This is possible to make one of these, it would just take some glue and a camera from just the right angle, but it is very hard to tell exactly where it might break in real life.Best Opti cal Illusion Painting of Ladders...Going Up or Down? KEY TRACKER is a huge danger
2007-05-23 19:10:00 A new device has been introduced to the marketplace that is a huge danger to anyone who uses a PC that is not theirs. It is known as a key tracker and it sits between the keyboard and the PC. As can be seen in the pictures it is very discreet but is probably one of the most dangerous items of equipment to personal information that is readily available. These devices record every key that is pressed on the keyboard. Due to its position (it sits between the keyboard and the PC) the information is logged by the tracker before the PC knows about it and as such is very difficult for the PC to detect. They are available in both USB and PS2 formats so pretty much any PC can be logged. The user puts the tracker in line, leaves it there for a set amount of time and then retrieves it. They can then download the data onto their own PCIf you intend to use a PC that is not yours (ie hotel business centre, internet café, airport etc) I would advise looking at the back of the PC to see if one of... World's Largest Digging Machine
2007-05-09 19:15:00 This is the largest digging machine (or trencher or rotating shovel) in the world. It was built by Krupp and is shown here crossing a road in Germany on the way to its destination, an open air coal mine. Although at the mine the treads are unnecessary, it was cheaper to make the machine self-propelled than to try and move it with conventional hauling equipment. Some factoids: *The machine is 95 meters high and 215 meters long (almost 2.5 football fields in length) *Weight is 45,500 tons (that's equivalent to a bumper to bumper line of jeeps 80 miles long) *It took 5 years to design and manufacture at a cost of $100 million *Maximum digging speed is 10 meters per minute *Can move more than 76,000 cubic meters of coal, rock, and earth per day More About: Machine , Largest , Large , Mach
