Sinbad the Sailor, Pantomine by Berwick Kaler at the Theatre Royal, York

Well it had to be done. We went off to Panto last night to see Sinbad the Sailor at the Theatre Royal York . What a surprise it turned out to be.Â The Times and Gaurdian both recommend it as one of five things everyone in the UK must go and see this winter and we would wholeheartedly agree.Â Fantastic throughout.Â Great cast, great humour, great production sets, great music, great lightingÂ and a great Theatre.Â We arrived early to pick our tickets up and both the box office area and bar were packed full.Â We didn’t see many kids around so assumed they must haveÂ already taken their seats.Â We ordered a couple of drinks at the bar and our round came to less than Â£6 which for a theatre is very good going indeed.Â We headed through into the theatre and the first things we noticed was just how much leg room you actually had.Â Our last Theatre experience was in the West End where your knees are normally up against the chair in front.Â Here though you could stretch out.Â L...

Well here I am again at the Croydon Park Hotel and the usual routine of taking dinner (on my own) in the restaurant leads me to practising (sometimes without much effort) the art of listening to other peoples conversations.Â At this point I should of course tell you about my experience on the train down from Yorkshire this morning.Â While working at my seat,Â I could clearly see the girl sat in front of me, sending text messagesÂ to her boyfriend.Â She had quite a big phone and of course out the corner of my eye I could not help but notice what was being written.Â Anyway, the text messages that were coming out of this otherwise petite and conservatively dressed girl would have shocked a Navi.Â In essence it turned out the boyfriend was working up a sweat at the local gym while this girl was texting him.Â She spent the next half hourÂ sending messages describingÂ just how hot under the collar she was getting thinking about him working up a sweat etc etc!Â By the way, this is t...

It was a long walk into town yesterday (2hrs) so last night we felt we had burnt enough calories to justifyÂ Paul baking Apfelkuchen, sehr fein, or to use it’s English name, Delicious Apple Cake . Taken from Dr Oetker German Baking Today, within just over an hour, we had a fantastic treatÂ warm our souls withÂ at the end of a long cold day.Â Â Not holding back on the calorie front we had it withÂ freshly whipped cream and having promised ourselves that we would go to the gym in the morning, we decided to haveÂ seconds there and then. Two hour walk, fresh air and hot coffee!

Having skipped the Gym this morning for a lie in bed, we decided to walk from our home in Dunnington to the City Centre.Â Two hours later we arrived in the centre of York and after picking my watch up from the Jewellers after it had been fitted with a new battery we were ready for a little sit down.Â Settling for 1331 Bar we ordered a Latte and a white Americano.Â I’m not wholly sure what happened next because I was busy playing with my spoon, but myt leg suddenly felt very hot.Â Â Yep, bless his heart, Paul’s tendency to be a little clumsy had him knocking his tall latte over and the contents spilling quickly over my coat and my trouser leg.Â We mopped up the mess, tried to look as cool as we could and finished our replacement drinks sharp with and left.Â Â Another Pryordurkin moment… Terms and Conditions apply to all our posts. After my first full week back at work, the old brain seems to have got back intoÂ full operation following the Christmas Break.Â You may remember from an earlier post that my new DS Lite Brain Training Program told me I had the effective brain age of 59, albeit after a little Brandy and a lot of chocolate! Well I am now delighted to say I am firing on all cylinders again and have the brain age of a 21 year old. Apparently according to detailed scientific research (Nintendo provided!), the optimum brain age is 20; ie it is fully functioning and at its peak for performance and learning. Bring on MENSA! Hello, Paul here. Michael has been pestering me to write a review (since he does them all). So here they are: Loch Fyne (fish restaurant in York ): Visited 7th Jan. Nice, but the salmon was overcooked and the creme brulee burnt. Melton’s Too: Went here for Xmas lunch on the 5th Dec. Good food and good service. Recommended. Charles XII: Pub in heslington. Pryordurkins do Harvey Nichols in Leeds

We were looking to do something slightly different today, that combined exercise, fresh air, shopping and a healthy lunch.Â So the plan for today suddenly took us on a fairly long trip to Leeds .Â We started by walking from our home into Dunnington Village, which is about a 40 minute walk.Â We then caught the bus into York.Â I dropped my watch of at the jewellers to have it repaired as we passed by on our way to the train station where we jumped on the train for Leeds.Â We spent a very pleasant afternoon wandering around the shopping plaza, the old Market, the Victoria Quarter, stopping for afternoon tea at Anthony’s Patisserie, and then heading into Harvey Nicks to check out the sale and staff (cute skinny men).Â In between all this I caught up with Jason on the phone and we swapped a few texts with Dale and Steve in London (love the jumper really Steve) The return journey was made the same way with a very cold walk back from the Bus Stop in Dunnington to our home.Â T...

The latest film with Will Smith turned out to have quite a good, but difficult to watch, plot.Â None of the usual cheesiness that makes up many of the blockbuster Holywood films, this one kept us slightly nervous throughout and any flicker of humour or relief was quickly stubbed out.Â Basic synopsis is some mad scientists (I know all about them) invents a cure for cancer which unfortunately takes a unexpected turn wiping out pretty much the entire human race.Â (OK - so I should haven’t been surprised at the lack of humour earlier on).Â Will Smith playing (quite a fit) Robert Neville spends most of the film trying to survive in pretty grim circumstances and then……Â I won’t spoil it.Â Go see it. I made the mistake again of thinking that Costcutter in Dunnington was a convenience store. Walking up the aisle to buy some fresh milk I noticed a little old lady not looking too pleased. Then I saw it. The counter. No Semi Skilled Milk. This shop is a complete and utter shambles. Well it is back to work for the Pryordurkins. The only good thing about it was getting up early to catch the views from our back garden. We quite like Nando’s and were pleased to spot one had opened in York .Â So in we went expecting the same reasonable food and quick service.Â We were seated on the ground floor which doesn’t hold that many tables and later on discovered the first floor is almost twice the size so well capable of hosting a large number of guests.Â The menus had changes slightly since we last visited a Nando restaurant and they Full Meal Platter was not quite the great value it used to be.Â You now have to pay extra for the side salad.Â Anyway we placed our order at 3.21 (the time is important - bear with me)Â for the full meal platter with an extra side salad and garlic bread.Â It came to around Â£22.00 which is still good value.Â At 3.51 I asked a passing waitress to check on our order.Â At 3.55, as she passed again to clean a table I asked “Well”, as in, did you check on our order.Â The reply was muffled but went something along the lines of they need to cook some ch...
