Disney’s Enchanted
2007-12-31 00:03:00 Directed by Kevin Lima and and written by Bill Kelly staring Julie Andrews, Kevin Lima, Bill Kelly, James Marsden,Timothy Spall, Amy Adams, Idina Menzel, Susan Sarandon, Patrick Dempsey and others. Plot Outline was A classic Disney fairytale collides with modern-day New York City in a story about a fairytale princess who is sent to our world by an evil queen. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer. Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?  This was a good fun film to while a couple of hours away. Quite camp in places and thankfully had humour for adults as well as children. We have very old brains.
2007-12-26 11:21:00 I apparently have the brain of a 59 year old and Paul has the brain of a sixty year old, which given I am six years older than him makes me feel quite good. Exploring the features of a new Nintendo Lite with Brain Training we discovered with a few tests it tells you how your brain is performing. Needless to say, after a Champagne Breakfast, a large Christmas Lunch followed by more alchohol than we can remember the results were not that surprising. 2007-12-24 15:34:00 While out picking up some last minute vegetables, we decided to stop for lunch at the Wetherby Whaler near Nether Poppleton. Think of it as a poor substitute for Harry Ramsdens. The entrance is a short cold corridor where a big sign states “Please Wait Here…..”. A bit like a dentists waiting room. An old couple, not looking too happy were seated waiting for their table of eight to become free. We were met by an old fish wife with a temperament to match who after telling the old couple they could not be seated until the rest of their party arrived, took us through to our small square table. I sat facing a blank boring wall while Paul faced out into the dining room, which was carpeted and spacious; full of old people and families and smelt of grease. Not being ones to flinch on our duties to sample and report we stuck it out. Four High Petergate Hotel and Bistro, YORK, North Yorkshire.
2007-12-23 22:58:00 Stopping for lunch on Saturday at around 12.30 we found the place warm, welcoming but strangely empty. We were seated quickly by the two very nice waiters and started to look through the lunch time menu. The place was empty except for an older couple sat at a window table looking out on High Petergate. The décor was stylish and contemporary, the tables well laid and lit by candlelight. Of course, the paper napkins were a bit of a let down. Anyhow, we ordered. I went for the Egg & Ham Tartlet , while Paul went for the Soup, both very reasonably priced at £3.50. We ordered the recommended wine, an Argentinean  Malbec Dona Paula Estate 2006 which turned out to be a very fine choice. My tartlet was very good indeed. The egg ran as soon as I broke into the tartlet, just the way I like it. Paul was not so keen on his soup as it had separated slightly and was served with a basic microwave to defrost bun. 2007-12-21 11:49:00 Bring on the Mince Pies. It is our last working day before the holiday break and we are looking forward to winding down. Paul has got the usual cold and I will no doubt be ill on Christmas Day (normal for the last three years), so all is as it should be. We are looking forward to catching up with some of you and checking out what Santa has in his sack. 2007-12-18 22:10:00 Well after a very nice but very short weekend, spoilt only by Rhydian losing X-Factor and Gethin Jones being thrown out of Strictly Come Dancy we travelled down to London together early Monday morning. Paul heading for a conference at UCL and myself heading to work. Monday night, I spent the night at the Holiday Inn, Regents Place and this evening I have moved across town to the Hilton in Croydon. It is starting to get a little embarassing having to constantly ask the reception staff what room number, town, hotel I am in. I’m looking forward to getting home tomorow though as I seem to spending far too much time away and we are both looking forward to a break over Christmas. Apparently the news from Garth View this evening, is that Sooty had a fight with the carpet at the bottom of the stairs and the carpet lost!
