Mango Sago
2007-11-13 05:25:00
Everyone at home loves Mango es. Hmmm ... maybe except my daughter who doesn't like fruits at all. You might have guess it if you visit my blog often. I have a few desserts using mango.I keep telling myself, I'll try working with another fruit but every time I said that I'm sure to see mangoes and I just can resist buying them. So, here's another mango dessert we have very often.Ingredients:500g Mango Puree from 3 mangoes250ml Fresh Milk50g SagoSyrup to taste (Melting sugar in water)Additional cut out chunky mango (optional)How to do it:Have a pot of water enough to cover the sago.Cook the sago in low heat, stirring in fluently to prevent them from sticking.Once all the sago have turn opaque, strain and wash them in a pot of clean water till you don't feel a layer of starch covering them (about 3 wash)Combine the milk, mango puree and additional chunky mango together.Add syrup to taste.Serve chilled.Click HERE for printer-friendly version of an original recipehttp://feeds.feedbu...
French Beans with Ham and Bacon Bits
2007-11-13 04:51:00
This bag of french beans was the last of the vegetables after I cleared the asparagus. I had wanted to empty the fridge for easy cleaning.I planned to cook this but realised I didn't have minced pork. So I used the ham and streaky bacon, meant for my son's breakfast, instead.Ingredients: 400g French Beans 2 slice Ham, chopped into bits3 slice Streaky Bacon , chopped into bits1 teaspoon Garlic, minced1 teaspoon Fermented Soybean Paste (try the spicy one if you like)1/2 teaspoon Sugar How to do it: Snap of the ends of the french beans.Deep fry french beans for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside. Heat up the wok and add in the bacon.Stir fry the slightly brown. Do not drain the oil.Add in the garlic and ham.Stir fry till garlic is fragrant and the bacon and ham are brown.Add in the French beans, fermented soybean paste and sugar. Stir fry for another 30 seconds to a minute till french beans are thoroughly cooked and season. Dish and serve. Click HERE for printer-friendly version of an ori...

Asparagus with Salted Fish
2007-11-12 02:56:00
Asparagus is one of my favourite vegetables. When I saw them in the market, I knew I had to grab some. I think I bought to much because I forgot I'm the only one enjoying it.Anyway, the last few sticks of asparagus were staring back at me when I opened the fridge, begging me to eat them because it would be a shame to die without being eaten.I had in mind to cook bean sprout so I'm used similar cooking method to do the asparagus instead.Ingredients:8 Asparagus, skinned and half5g Salted Fish , chopped into bits2 Clove Garlic, sliced2 teaspoon OilHow to do it:Heat oil in wok.Stir fry garlic and salted fish til fragrant.Remove and set aside.Add in the asparagus.Stir fry till cooked.Dish and sprinkle the earlier cooked garlic and salted fish over.Serve.Note:No seasoning required for this dish as the oil will be salty from the stir frying of the salted fish. Chocolate Chips Cookies
2007-11-07 06:49:00
I ran out of baking paper and since I was at the supermarket, I went to look around for it. I found the wonderful Glad Bake - Non-stick and cooking paper. No greasing required when I use this. When the cookies are baked, they just slipped off the paper to the wire rack and I could reuse the paper for my second batch of cookies. In fact, I only use two pieces of paper to bake the whole batch of cookies!Anyway, there's this Chocolate Chip Cookie s recipe on the box. Cookies. How can I give it a miss and went ahead to try it. Ooooo ... It's yummy, crunchy, easy and no stopping at one (my son finished a box with closed to 20 cookies at one go!!). I gave some to my friend, Poi San, and she has since requested for a big canister for Chinese New Year. I'll bake some for you for Christmas lah. Don't have to wait so long. *giggle*Anyone who loves cookies should try this!Ingredients:200g Butter, melted1 1/2 cup Brown Sugar2 Eggs, beaten1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence2 cups Self Raising Flour2 c...

I actually enjoy baking cookies more than cakes. Well, that's because I prefer to eat cookies than cakes. LOL And I find cookies easier to make for a novice baker like me. Baking cakes have too many rules to follow, one step wrong and your cakes might end up in the rubbish bin.I won't give up making cakes though. I have a wish to make cute and pretty cupcakes with all those creams and sprinkles for my son's next birthday. I still need lots of practise if I'm going to make that wish come true. Not much time left though. In the meantime, it will be still cookies that I'll be baking when I have the time. Oh, I've skipped post again as I remembered one of my Multiply friends, San, intends to make these for her son's teachers. Not much time left. Oh! And KF, who is going to 'trade' cookies with San, the next post will be for you. *wink*Ingredients:100g Unsalted Butter, soften45g Icing Sugar25g Sugara dash of salt1 Whole Egg, beaten90g Cake Flour1/4 teaspoon Baking Powder15g Almon...

Green Lime Juice with Aloe Vera
2007-11-03 02:24:00
I learned a trick or two from the veggie sellers in the market. How do you cook this? What do you do with this? Just ask and you will be given not just one answer. They are my veggie and cooking consultants. *giggle*Do you know if you burn, eg, your hand, just take a thin slice of aloe vera and place it over the wound. It helps the healing. This was what they told to me when the sellers saw my scalded hand sometime back. It did help ease the pain.I had to buy the whole leaf which was very big, I asked what else does it do and what else can I do with it. Guess what they told me? Use it as a mask lor especially if you are pimply, which I have yet to try (no pimple yet :p). It helps reduces inflammation and detoxification too. I have constipation problems so it's good to eat this often too. However, everyone reacts differently to different kinds of food. It may work for me but not you. So take caution if you using it especially for cosmetic uses. Try out in a small area first. And if y...

My friends in Multiply must be glad that I am finally posting this recipe. You see I usually post my new dishes here and here. The former acts as a photo search for the recipe link. I find it easier to search for recipe by looking at the photos rather than the name. I thought regular visitors here might find this useful. The latter is a reminder for me on the outstanding recipes I have yet to post and the order of posting. Sometimes, I do jump post certain recipe first though. If you didn't know this before, now you know where to go if you want an easier way searching for my recipes here or to see what I'll be posting soon.Okay, back to this recipe. Sorry guys I took so long to post this. Other than I had many other long overdue recipes to post, the other reason was I forgotten to take the measurements when I did. Then I couldn't find mangoes the next day. *giggle*Anyway, this is a cheat recipe. It's different from the mango pudding we eat in restaurants which contains milk but i...

Soba with Chilli Prawns
2007-11-02 01:44:00
I love Chilli Crabs but unfortunately or fortunately, I haven't got over the phobia of killing and preparing crabs. Hence, I use other ingredients in replacement of crabs. Just like this previous dish here. The other day I had cravings for chilli crabs (again). I got the prawns meant for another dish to make Chilli Prawns instead, using the same ingredients and same way I did 0the previous dish but using prawns of course.I didn't want to have rice. So I grab a bunch of soba and cooked it. Add the prepared chilli prawns to it and voila! Hmmm ... Italian dish with Japanese and Singaporean flavours! Very fusion!I wished I had used Penne instead of Soba. Why? So I can eat quietly but still be able to grab more sauce in every bite. I was slurping so loudly with my plate of soba I think the Japanese would be happy. * Chilli Prawns *http://feeds.feedburner.com/wokkingmum
Grilled Mussels with Garlicy Parmesan
2007-11-01 00:58:00
I love mussels! No mussels fans at home so I always have it all to myself. However, my husband who hates mussels love this and finished a whole dish of it!!I usually get those cheap mussels from a nearby supermarket. It is really cheap; less than S$2 for a tray! It has about 30 of them. The best part was, after savouring the dish, I have plenty of shells I can use to do crafts with my son.Oh, be careful when you eat these. You can't stop at one!Ingredients:30 Mussels, brushed and cleaned2 tablespoon Butter, melted5 tablespoon Grated Parmesan Cheese1 tablespoon Garlic Powder1 teaspoon Black Pepper, coarsely grounded2 teaspoon Fresh Parsley, chopped (optional)How to do it:Preheat oven to 170C.Place mussels in a pot with 50ml water and cover.Cook for 5 minutes or till mussels open up.Drain and discard those that remained close (they are bad).Snap the empty part of the shell off.Place the other shell with the mussels on a oven-proof dish.Mix the remaining ingredients together.Place som...

Marble Cake
2007-10-31 02:23:00
KF, one of my friends I know through MSNing did a delicious Marble Cake (one of my favourite) and I knew I had to try to do it. If you could see it, you would love the marble effect on her cake. As you can see, my marble effect is kind of weird. Eva, another friend I know through MSNing said she could see numbers in my cake (shown on the bottom picture). Maybe, the cake is trying to give me numbers to buy lottery. Can you see the numbers? If you can see the number, went to buy lottery and strike it, remember to buy my ingredients so I can bake some more. *giggle* If you don't know what to buy, there's a donation button on my main page. Don't be shy. You can click on that, send me the money and I'll do the buying myself. LOLz.Enough of my nonsense. Here's how you can make your own numbered Marble Cake. Crabstick Salad
2007-10-27 18:33:00
I always have a pack of crabsticks in the fridge, frozen individually, as my son like it. If I run out of ideas for dinner, crabstick is always there to help. It can be used in soup or steamed in eggs or as a novelty dinner.I used to order a similar dish at a Japanese stall in a food court. It had tobiko sprinkled all over but I didn't had that so I used spring onions to add colour. This is so easy to make and can be eaten alone or used as a filling for sandwich, which we did! Just steam and shred 6 crabsticks. Mix it well with 3 tablespoon of Mayonnaise, more if you like, and an optional of 1/2 tablespoon Spring Onion. Serve it chilled. It's nice! Try it!http://feeds.feedburner.com/wokkingmum

Braised Mushroom with Dried Oyster and Moss
2007-10-27 17:02:00
This is one of a few dishes we will always see on in law's dining table during Chinese New Year. I have known my husband for 17 years and I see this dish every year during Chinese New Year's Reunion dinner. There are other regular dishes too and they are all cooked the same way every year. Even if we are having steamboat, this dish will still appear on the dining table. *giggle*Perhaps its the reason that they are Cantonese and the ingredients used for this dish sounds very auspicious. Dried oyster sounded like ?? (good deeds; returns) and the moss sounded like ?? (get rich) in Mandarin. Together it will be ????, lots of good returns and fortune!I usually don't cook with the dried oyster because my son hates it. I don't like to eat it too. I just add it for extra flavours.Ingredients:8 Dried Chinese Mushroom , soaked to soften and stalks removed (do not squeeze dry)10g Dried Sea Moss , soaked to soften and drained4 Dried Oysters, soaked for 5 minutes Seasonings 1:1 tablespoon Oyst...
Basic Cupcake
2007-10-25 04:38:00
Baking again! I'm determine to try baking the usual stuff that I used to get from my friends (who were very into baking then). I'm always told that they are easy especially cupcakes, they said.Cupcakes are very versatile. I have seen so many types of cupcakes. Cupcakes with fillings, fruits, frosting, etc. So I guess I need to try to make the basic cupcake first and from there I can add "salt and vinegar" (Chinese term on adding additional stuff).Hmm ... yeah. I think I can handle cupcakes. My first attempt on cupcakes turned out rather well. My kids finished the whole lot of mini cupcakes! Ingredients: 120g Unsalted Butter, soften130 grams White Sugar3 large Eggs1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence210 grams All purpose flour1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder1/4 teaspoon Salt60ml MilkHow to do it:Preheat oven to 170C. Mr Happy Rice Ball
2007-10-24 06:18:00
I did this for my son yesterday. It's funny how some peas, carrot bits, tiny bits of ham and even more tiny cut out seaweed, with the help of toothpicks, can transform a boring rice ball to something totally different. Mr Happy Rice Ball is relaxed and stretched out ... waiting to be eaten! Egg and Fish Paste Roll
2007-10-24 05:44:00
My kids love fish balls a lot so I buy fish paste from the uncle who sells yong tau foo to make it into other dishes for them. Making it myself will takes up too much time. This dish is similar to this dish I made, except this is steamed. Hence seaweed is not used as steaming with the seaweed would make it soft and soggy. I doubt my kids would like it. I just sprinkle on some seaweed flakes for colour.Ingredients:150g Fish Paste 1 Egg, beaten1/2 teaspoon Seaweed Flakes (optional)2 drops of OilHow to do it:Heat pan with oil.Pour half of the beaten egg into the pan. Swirl the pan to let the egg spread out. Remove egg when it's cooked. Repeat with the remaining half of the beaten egg.Spread fish paste thinly over one egg crepe.Place the second egg crepe on top of the fish paste.Spread fish paste thinly it.Sprinkle seaweed flakes over the fish paste if you like.Start rolling it (like sushi).Tuck in the ends.Place on a plate and cover with cling wrap (to avoid water from getting it and ma...

Little Cheese Men
2007-10-20 05:07:00
My son likes ham and cheese sandwiches but the most he will eat is a slice of bread if it's with sliced cheese even if in cute shapes. However if it's with ham alone, he can eat two slices. So I gathered that it got to do with cheese.I tried Parmesan Cheese and guess what? He can eat more than three slices! Sure he likes it. It smells nice and is crunchy too! * Marching Little Cheese Men *Today we had cut-out little men and flowers (not shown here) on the remaining bread. It was really easy to make too.Just butter the bread. Have a bowl of grated Parmesan Cheese ready. You may want to use unsalted butter since Parmesan Cheese alone is salty enough. Then press the bread with butter side down to the cheese. Shake of excess cheese. After which, you can toast it in your oven, cheese side up.I was too lazy to bring out my oven so I used the flying pan instead. Toast the plain side first then turn over to toast the side with cheese. Remove them once they are slightly brown. Cool them on...
Strawberry Milk Pudding
2007-10-19 02:57:00
My kids love Meiji's Milk but they both have taste. The older boy prefers Strawberry Flavour and the younger girl, Chocolate. So I had to buy both flavours if I'm buying milk.Occasionally, there will be leftovers and in order to make them finish the milk before the expiry date, I turn the milk into pudding. It's really easy. Just melt 1 tablespoon of gelantine in 50ml of hot syrup (boiling water with sugar) and add that to 400ml of milk. Pour it to your mould and refrigerate till it is set.Add whipped cream or fruits to it or just have it on its own.Note:If you prefer a firmer jelly, add more gelatine. Like wise, increase or decrease the amount of sugar for the syrup according to your taste.http://feeds.feedburner.com/wokking mum

Mini Prawn Cutlet Rice Burger
2007-10-17 05:55:00
What happens if you want to eat burger and rice but it's impossible to finish both? Have a rice burger then! LOLzI made this rice burger for my son with the Prawn Cutlet I did. Yeah, that's plain rice instead of buns. Just add some lettuce, tomato, onion, even cheese, squeeze some sauce and you have it.Check out these other rice burgers I made too.Oh! Just in case you are wondering how the rice cakes were made, I cooked the rice as normal except I added slightly more water (1 cup rice with 1 1/2 cup water) to make it more moist and sticky. If you don't like to use your bare hands to make the rice cake, scoop the rice onto a cling wrap. Cover it with the same cling wrap and roll it with a rolling pin or similar. Lift up the cling wrap and 'fold' the flatten rice. Cover it and continue rolling. Repeat till the rice sticks together. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out the rice.Using your hands will be much easier. *wink*By the way, these prawn cutlet rice burgers were only 7cm in ...

I love the Prawn Cutlet Burger from MOS burger. Each time I eat it, I'll try to figure out what's in there. I never succeed (because I'm not the Remy, the Chef Mouse ... *giggle*).My version is not as good but it will do. I shouldn't complain since the guys at home love it. This was done some time back. I bought some (skinless) chicken breast meat from the super market. I knew my son won't like it because they are skinless (he likes the skin) so I did this instead. Chicken Drumlets with Dual Dipping Sauce
2007-10-08 04:08:00
My kids love these chicken drumlets. It's easy for them to hold on to to eat. This time to make the chicken stay crunchy longer, I changed the coating.Instead of dipping the marinated chicken in batter, I coat it with corn flour then washed it with beaten egg and lastly coat it with breadcrumbs, before I deep fried them. This method will produce a thinner crunchy outer layer but it requires more ingredients. If you prefer to have a thicker outer layer, you can always use the old method.I fried more of these drumlets so me and my husband can have some too; not only for the kids this time. And I made some dipping sauces to go with it. The kids of course still love it with tomato sauce. * Sesame Seed Sauce * Grind or pound 2 1/2 tablespoon Sesame Seed till paste-like. Add in 1 tablespoon each of Black Vinegar and Light Soy sauce with 1/2 tablespoon Sesame Seed Oil to it and mix well.* Spicy Mayonnaise Sauce *Mix 1 tablespoon of Chilli Sauce and Mayonnaise each together.http://feeds.fee...

Clams in White Wine

I cooked this sometime back just for myself because no one at home like clams. Well, not when it's cooked this way. They preferred it this way. I don't really enjoy eating alone. It makes food seems boring.Anyway, I just have the plate of cooked clams in front of me, pick out all the shells, then have it with a bowl of rice. The sauce is sweet and I like it with rice.
