My first dashboard widget: Amazon Search 1.0
2007-02-10 19:46:00
I have just deployed my first widget, Amazon Search 1.0, and it is now on Apple's website. I was thrilled to see that it was singled out as a "Staff Favorite." My widget is different than the other 2-3 Amazon Search widgets available in that the results are returned to the widget. All the other Amazon widgets simply link to Amazon. You enter in a search term and hit search and the widget goes away and Safari opens up and performs the search. What a waste! Why not just click your amazon bookmark and search. No, my widget performs the search and returns the results back to the widget. If you want more info on the product, click it and then go to Amazon. It is a great widget, please download it and use it.Read More

1984 Superbowl Ad
2007-02-02 01:45:00
In honor of the upcoming Super bowl and all the ads that come with it, I thought I would address the most famous Superbowl ad: 1984 by Apple. This was Apple's way of introducing the Macintosh. I don't have any control over the audio/video sync, sorry. This commercial appeared in the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley. They recreated the commercial while it was being filmed. It's a good movie worth watching. Not so well known is the Superbowl ad that played the following year introducing Macintosh Office. The software never made it to the market and the ad was a bust. It was a take off of the game Lemmings.

Microcopy releases Vista
2007-01-30 15:16:00
So they finally have released their next big OS since XP.Apple had a lot of fun with Vista last year. Let's take a look:Vista is not Longhorn. Longhorn is the OS Micro copy has been promising for years, since 2001. They failed building Longhorn. They scrapped Longhorn, took Windows Server 2003 and dumbed it down to be a consumer OS. Oh, they also "aquaed" the GUI.

Steve Ballmer talks out of his ass
2007-01-17 19:04:00
Ballmer in an interview about Apple's iPhone laughed at it saying that it won't appeal to businessmen and women because it doesn't have a keyboard. This is standard Microcopy. Since they can't innovate anything, all they do is lie about other's innovations. Once again Ballmer is talking out of his ass. His words all sh*t.Take a look at the Apple iPhone without a keyboard. Ooops! Wait, what is that keyboard doing on the phone? Ballmer you sneaky liar.Steve also laughed at the $500 selling price saying it is the most expensive phone in the world. I agree that $500 is too much for a phone but consider the Palm Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 5.0 selling with a 2-year plan for $499! Microcopy lies!

Great Vista Video
2007-01-13 05:02:00
Here a user takes a video describing how the new Vista GUI works but performs all the functions on a Mac showing that the "Advancements" in Vista are mostly just copies... bad copies at that.Enjoy!

Are you sure you want to do this?
2007-01-13 04:53:00
Have you seen all the Windows OS parodies over the past years about how windows constantly asks you, "are you sure?" Well, in Vista it is about to get worse. If you are familiar with OS X you know that anytime you install a piece of software you are asked to Authenticate before installation takes place. If you don't know the password, the software isn't going on.Well, Microcopy has duplicated this feature in their own inept way. To install on a Vista machine you get the same window asking for permission. BUT one big difference is that there is no password needed. It is just a button that says OK. In other words it is an "Are you sure?" it is just renamed as "Windows needs your permission." To break this completely down: If an unauthorized user wants to install a keylogging program or other malicious software, Vista will ask the hacker for permission to install it. The hacker says sure and Windows continues. So Vista is just annoying you without securing your computer. What a waste....

Apple iPhone's best feature
2007-01-11 15:51:00
The Apple iPhone is amazing. It is beautiful, well designed and truly does reinvent the phone. They always say you shouldn't reinvent the wheel but that is what Apple does, that is how they "Think Different." In my opinion the best feature of this new phone is the "Visual Voicemail," as they call it. Visual Voicemail works just like email. You touch to open your voicemail menu and rather than a linear experience you use it like email. You decide to play any voicemail in any sequence. With regular voicemail you call in, enter in your password, click 1 to hear your messages in order, press 7 to delete or 9 to save. Then you have to listen to an automated voice speak all your options. With the iPhone you see a list of your voicemails including the name of the person if they are in your address book. You see the phone number and the date of the call. You touch the listing of the voicemail you want to hear and it plays. No more linear voicemail. It's a beautiful system.

Apple stock skyrockets during and after Keynote Speech
2007-01-10 01:48:00
Today's Apple stock chart looks like Mount St. Helens north side. From the minute the keynote address started the stock shot up and up and up. It started around $84 and as Steve talked about Apple TV it went up to $88. The Steve announced the iPhone and the stock went above $90 until the market closed it out at $92.86. I told my wife that it was soaring and she said "why don't you buy it?" I said it is already almost up $5 and I thought that at the end of the day people would cash in, or at least they would tomorrow morning. When Google stock reached $299 last year I kicked myself for not buying it. I figured it had already gone too high too fast. Google ended today at $485.50, $186.50 per share above what I thought it had peaked at. The same with Netscape in 1995-6 when it reached $74. I said it was too late.Up $7 in one day is not enough to think that Apple's valuation will raise dramatically over the next year. The iPhone isn't out until July and who knows how it will sell si...

Jobs keynote: iPhone
2007-01-09 18:58:00
Ok, as I type this Steve Jobs is demoing the new iPhone . And I must say that I may have to retract EVERYTHING I SAID about wanting one last week. BUT, in true Apple fashion, Steve will announce that it will only work with Cingular. Why does Apple continue to make these mistakes. Just like the closed architecture of the Mac that lost them 20% of their 26% market share and gave IBM 95% market share, Apple turns their back on all those people on Sprint, Verizon, ATT, etc... that want to buy one but can't.I'm not switching to Cingular to get one no matter how bad I want one. I just can't understand how they can limit their market to one carrier. If they want to give Cingular a head start for a couple of months fine but the odds are you will have to use Cingular to get this phone. People have contracts. Sometimes the contracts are long - 2 to 3 years. You have to pay hefty fines to get out of the contract.Maybe the phone interacts with the cell network in new ways that make the networ...

iWoz reading last night
2007-01-08 20:50:00
Have you read iWoz yet? I got the book yesterday and started reading it and didn't want to stop. 2am came around and I had to put it down so I could get some sleep. I had to take my daughters to the dentist early in the morning. I have to admit that as I read it I heard Joey Slotnik's (the actor that portrayed Woz in PoSV) voice. The book reads exactly like the acting in the movie. It's uncanny. There is an audio version version available. I'll get that too. It would be hilarious if Slotnik read it in character.Joey Slotnik with Woz. He was great in PoSV.

Nothing compares to iTunes!
2007-01-05 18:43:00
This Monday will be one of the greatest games in college football: The BCS National Championship Game. I am predicting a victory for my Ohio State Buckeyes. And I can't wait to spend $2 for the game (if we win). I look forward to giving them money. Sure I could record the game on my DVR and then transfer it to mini-DV and then capture it in Final Cut Pro through firewire then export it to iPod video H.264 quality, but WHY? Why go through all that when I can spend $2 and download it. You can get video from Amazon and video from Google, but just like in the personal copmuter world, those delivery systems lack the elegence that Apple brings the world. The store is beautiful, buying is easy, and the iPod is great! When iTV comes, it will be a perfect media delivery system. The big question I have is when will there be iTunes Original Programming. I truly believe it will come. Just like HBO has their series, iTunes will have their series too. They won't play on TV, they won't be availa...

Who's your Daddy?
2007-01-03 16:42:00
When introduced in 1984, the first Macintosh was pulled from its bag and spoke to the crowd. Sounding like a bad version of WOPR (the computer in the movie War Games), one of the things the Mac "said" was that Steve Jobs was like a father to it. Hmmm, Steve Jobs the father of the Mac (actually it was invented by an employee but Steve brought it to the market), wouldn't that make Steve Jobs the Mac Daddy ! If so, Steve Jobs is a Billionaire Pimp. LOLA search on eBay for Steve Jobs will bring up the t-shirt design below:Steve Jobs: Billionaire PimpI'm looking forward to getting one of these shirts someday. I will take a Mac Daddy donation. I wear XXL.

iTV release pushed back to February
2007-01-03 15:31:00
AppleInsider is reporting that Apple Computer's iTV is not ready for release as promised next week. It is believed that Steve Jobs will fully introduce iTV's capabilities at the MacWorld Expo on January 8-12, 2007 but end users won't be able to purchase the unit for another month.Since iTV is already in use across the web, iTV will probably be renamed. Seinfeld uses a Mac
2007-01-01 02:48:00
As you can guess by the title of this blog that I am a big Seinfeld fan as well as the Mac . For years Jerry's apartment donned an original Mac on his desk. Even as I write this blog I am watching the Seinfeld marathon on TBS. The current episode on tv is a later episode and the Mac isn't on his desk. I'm not sure when the classic Mac was switched out. I couldn't tell if the computer was a Mac (It looks like a Quadra) but there it is...Kramer on the couch. Mac in tow.
Insanely Great!
2006-12-31 02:15:00
In 1984, I was just about to turn 15. God had healed me of a heart condition and I was a few years into computer programing (very small stuff). I had a Radio Shack computer with a tape drive and thermal printer that didn't do much. But there was this insanely great computer that came out and I had it's brochure:There was never a chance that I could buy one for $2,500. Wow, that's like $7,000 in '06. I wanted the computer, the bag, the printer, etc... I loved the design, it was just cool. My Dad bought one for his office but he was in Ohio and I had just recently moved to Florida. Check out the introduction it got and the huge standing ovation:Before you scratch your head at all the excitement, remember what people were used to in '84:Now the GUI wasn't entirely new. There was the Lisa before the Mac and the Xerox before the Lisa. But, the Xerox wasn't made for the masses. It sat at PARC for a few executives there. We all know that Windows was made from Microsoft reverse engin...

Innovation vs. Duplication
2006-12-30 19:16:00
If Windows is always able to duplicate Apple's innovation (they've made a business out of it), will Apple's market share ever gain on the PC?Do you remember when Windows 95 was released? It acted a lot like the Mac OS of 3 years before. Apple even had ad campaigns that demonstrated this. I couldn't find it on the internet but it claimed that Windows 95 was old news since Apple had been doing it for years. It said Windows 95 = Mac 84. That wasn't actually true because the Mac in 84 didn't have multi-tasking but for most computer users it was accurate.Sure there were some differences:Windows has the bar on the bottom of the screenThere is a start button instead of an appleIt has a desktop like Mac's original desktop, with icons...and much more, we all know the similarities. Here's what it had that Mac didn't:Right click button on the mouseDual monitor support in release 2What Mac needs to understand that even though they are the innovators in the computer industry, they need t...

My "I'm A Mac" Commercial
2006-12-30 07:35:00
I love the Mac . I have since a few months before the release of the first one in 1984. I also like the new ad campaign, I'm A Mac and I'm A PC. It is humorous and fun. However, I have had nothing but problems with the Mac and firewire hard drives. Once I moved my entire iTunes library to a firewire drive because I was running out of room on my measly 80GB drive. The fire wire was 300GB and empty. I also recorded all my Garage Band songs to it. This worked for awhile until the firewire drive would just disappear from the desktop. Of course I got the message that I had removed the device improperly and that all my data MIGHT be lost. Hmmm.... All my data lost. Well, isn't that nice. It was ok until one time it killed my hard drive and I tried to save all my files before they were actually lost. Luckily I was able to save all the files (by using a PC and MacDrive to burn DVDs of it). However, the drive stopped working altogether and is now sitting in a drawer. I'm back to using my ...

Do I want an iPhone?
2006-12-30 06:58:00
For years we have been specuating that there will be an Apple phone with an iPod integrated into it. It appears that we will be introduced to it next month, if you believe the rumors -- and they're usually pretty acurate. I have an iPod Video that I love. I have a Samsung (Sprint) cell phone that I like very much. I'll be honest, I'm not sure I want to carry my iPod with me everywhere I go. I usually leave it in the car but I do take my very thin cell phone everywhere. I've got to think that an iPhone will be the size of both units combined. If not, sacrifices will be made that make either product not very useful.Motorola already has the ROKR but that never interested me. First off, it's Cingular only and I have Sprint. Also, it seemed more like a Nano yet without the click wheel interface. Without that interface it's just an mp3 player. Now, if we're talking video conferencing, that is a different story. Although, if you can only conference with other iPhones or iMacs using i...

I can't contain my excitement for iTV
2006-12-30 04:51:00
Steve Jobs paced back and forth on the stage, like he always does, at the "It's Showtime" special event in San Francisco in the fall of 2006. He showed off some great products. But what the usually tight-lipped Job's did out of the ordinary was talk about the future of a product that wouldn't be released until first quarter 2007. That product was "iTV".iTV is currently a codename or an internal nomenclature and will probably change since iTV.com already exists. So what does iTV do? Well, it's a media center or, as apple calls it, Front Row (or a version of it). It is a box that displays their beautiful Front Row software on your television, HD included, without stringing a computer to it. iTV doesn't house any media, it accesses media through WiFi or Ethernet. Any shared photos, songs, or movies can be played on your television from your computer. The movies purchased from iTunes are compressed using H.264 and are very good quality in an mpeg file that is up to 1/8th the size of...
