Why are GPS s so Popular?
2007-12-26 13:55:00 It seems like the hot item for this holiday season is a GPS. These items have been quite popular for years, especially in aviation. The reason why they are so popular is because they are reliable. No matter where you are in the world the GPS will be able to pick up your location via satellite and by searching the maps it has the GPS is able to direct you step by step to your final destination. <br><p><a href=http://pagr.portagr.com:80/p348an16/ gps-ez/news_2007-12-26-12-55-49-485.html& #62;Full text</a></p> More About: Popular , Pula
Top Causes of GPS Interruption
2007-12-26 13:53:00 One of the first reasons you might suffer from GPS interruption, is the U.S. Government. They perform interruption tests on GPS systems quite often and there is really nothing you can do about it. You might experience interruption in the following places: China Lake, CA Lax, CA Cedar Rapids, IA White Sands, NM Cape Canaveral, FL Patuxent River, MD Rancho Bernardo, CA Nellis AFB, NV Another cause of interruption is shutdown of two Wide Angle Augmentation System satellites. <br><p><a href=http://pagr.portagr.com:80/p348an16/ gps-ez/news_2007-12-26-12-53-59-362.html& #62;Full text</a></p> More About: Interrupt
How To Detect GPS Tracking Units
2007-12-26 13:53:00 The new GPS auto tracker technology allows just about anyone to track anyone else. In addition almost all new cell phones have GPS tracking capabilities built in to them. Some even have the ability to transmit location information even with the battery removed. All of which make you wonder what happened to personal privacy. The answer is that there really is no privacy. Granted there are legal restrictions as to how and when you can use the new tracking technology however detecting GPS tracking units can sometimes be difficult. <br><p><a href=http://pagr.portagr.com:80/p348an16/ gps-ez/news_2007-12-26-12-53-08-477.html& #62;Full text</a></p> More About: Tracking , Units , Unit
Garmin GPS - Get the Facts First
2007-12-26 13:51:00 Garmin GPS products are recognized and known as the best consumer GPS products on the market. Although other companies such as Magellan, Lowrance, TomTom, Mio, and others manufacture high quality GPS receivers, Garmin seems to be the name that people turn to first. These units can be accurate to a distance of 3 meters. Founded in 1989, Garmin manufactures devices that utilize the Global Positioning System GPS satellites to help people navigate anywhere on earth. <br><p><a href=http://pagr.portagr.com:80/p348an16/ gps-ez/news_2007-12-26-12-51-33-359.html& #62;Full text</a></p> More About: Facts , Garmin , Armin

Would you walk 12 miles to charge your cellphone?
2007-12-24 23:56:00 Well, we sure wouldn’t, but that’s only because we don’t have to. Would you walk 12 miles to juice up your mobile phone? We thought not. Apparently, there are a few dozen villagers living in the, well, village of Kajrai in India that are making the 12-mile trek to the nearest power-port to charge-up their cellphones. You see, their village doesn’t have any electrical infrastructure, so there’s no hope of keeping their devices charged without a not-so-quick trip to the nearest source of electrons. Those precious handsets are the villagers’ only connection with the outside world, and could prove invaluable in times of emergency. And, with no forseeable plans to bring any electrical hookups to the village anytime soon, these villagers will probably be staying in great shape with all that walking. Mobile phones are really becoming a necessity of everyday life. Even in remote villages that don’t even have any electricity. Ahh, technology sure is ... More About: Miles , Charge , Cellphone , Walk
4GB Laptops to flourish in 2008, with no decent software support
2007-12-24 20:38:00 It looks like 2008 is going to be the year where laptops will come with 4GB of RAM by default. This is due to the continually falling price of semi-conductor (you love it when you shop, but hate it when you own). Before paying extra bucks, one should be aware that current 32-bit Windows (XP, Vista) can’t take advantage of 4GB of physical memory in most cases. The other issue is that 64-bit Windows has crappy driver support. Here are a few links on the subject: The RAM limit for Windows XP Pro… 3GB? 4GB Windows (hardware) Memory Limit Google search for 3GB memory limit Permalink | Comment | Uberbargain | Uberphones More About: Software , Laptops , Support
Asus U2 ultra-portable laptop
2007-12-24 19:20:00 Asus is coming up with the U2, an elegant 11.1” laptop that is designed to be lighter and more power efficient. It has a LED backlit display, which is lighter and less power-hungry. But may be the most important part if saving battery life is the 32GB solid-state drive (SSD). With no mechanical parts, it consumes less than a disk-based drive. It is slightly lighter too. In the end, the Asus U2 weighs a mere 2.75lbs – not bad at all! Hack your Sprint Motorola Q9c to improve GPS performance - GPS + aGPS = awe
2007-12-23 21:08:00 Sprint’s Motorola Q9c features a fully open GPS receiver - the first Windows Mobile smartphone to rock integrated GPS on Sprint’s network. The Moto Q9c’s “open” GPS means that the receiver’s COM ports are visible and accessible to external programs - not just the programs (like navigation software) that the carrier wants you to use. Applications like Google Maps and Microsoft Live Search are free to leverage the GPS receiver - the way it should be. Unfortunately, the GPS unit in the Motorola Q9c is set to acquire positional data from satellite only - making the device essentially a stand-alone GPS receiver. Sprint apparently didn’t think aGPS (assisted GPS), which uses cell-tower location information to help get a position-lock, was necessary on the Moto Q9c. Wouldn’t it be great if we could add aGPS location information to the Moto Q9c’s open GPS receiver? Of course it would. GPS and aGPS could work together to return a faster p... Helio launches new Samsung GPS-slider for Koreans - Helio Mysto is live
2007-12-21 21:30:00 Helio isn’t exactly known for launching new handsets at the almost-dizzying pace that other big-dog carriers like to do, but they’ve just bumped up their lineup with the Helio Mysto. We spotted the Mysto a couple months ago at the FCC, and it seems Helio’s seen fit to launch the sleek-and-slim Samsung slider just in time for the upcoming festivus. As expected, the Samsung SPH-A523 slider phone will be packin’ a 2 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, EVDO, and, wait for it, integrated GPS! Helio’s all about integrated GPS, and the Helio Mysto doesn’t disappoint. If this little guy looks familiar, it’s because you’ve probably seen it as the Samsung Ultra Edition 10.9. We loved the look and slim-lines of the Ultra Edition 10.9, and it looks just as lovely in Helio-blue. Unfortunately for Yankee-fied Helio fans in the States, the Helio Mysto is being soft-launched through the “Helio powered by SK Telcom” division that targets K... 2007-12-21 08:52:00 Amcor might not be a famous GPS manufacturer, but they certainly have a decent line-up that covers the $150 to $280 segments. Air France tests in-flight cellphones
2007-12-21 02:30:00 Air Franc e is trying to find the right balance between convenience and annoyance when it comes to using cellphones in planes. A base station in the plane will relay all the transmissions via satellite. At first, users will be able to send/receive text messages, then at some point, Air France will also authorize calls. Passengers will be able to dial, as if it was an normal international call, but the cost isn’t known, even if Air France says that it will be comparable to “normal” cellphone use (on land). That sounds interesting, but for my entertainment, I would prefer to have an unlimited internet connection (and an electric plug) when I travel to Europe… Obviously, having both would be great. Samsung R700, a cheap 17-inch laptop
2007-12-20 20:02:00 This Samsung R700 laptop might sell very well to desktop replacement users. It has a clean line and the back should normally be shiner than it looks like in this photo gallery, however it doesn’t look as classy as the Toshiba Qosmio, but for $1189, it’s a little hard to complain.Specifications 17” 1366x738 display (it’s low!) Palestinians get new cell phone network
2007-12-20 11:37:00 While Palestinians and Israelis are moving ahead with peace talks, Israel will allow the Palestinians to set up a new cell phone network to meet growing demand. Israel controls all frequencies for cell phones in the West Bank and Gaza, and ever since violence erupted between the sides in 2000, Israel’s defense ministry has turned down repeated Palestinian requests to establish a second network. At the moment, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have only one cell phone network, which has operated since the 1990s. Taiwan: 50,000 people to form human Christmas tree light by cellphones
2007-12-18 19:29:00 Before you say “WTF,” let me emphasize that this is actually nice and planet-loving idea with the point to welcome Christmas without cutting any trees. Apparently, Taiwan ’s port city Kaohsiung will gather 50,000 people on Shidai Avenue in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, to form the shape of a giant Christmas tree. The participants will hold up flashlights, fluorescent sticks and cell phones, and will pose for a cameramen who will take photos from a helicopter. Not exactly the most eco-friendly vehicle… Anyway, if you’re wondering what’s on the image on the right side, that’s the USB Flashing Christmas Tree that lights up and flashes when your mobile phone rings. Sun Table powers your laptop
2007-12-18 19:19:00 This outdoor table is made of a big solar panel that produce enough electricity to power a laptop (may be not a gaming one...) or devices that have similar power requirements. Underneath the panel, there is a nickel metal hybrid battery that stores the electricity (156 Watt hour). It takes three hours of sunlight to get a full-charge and an integrated power-inverter provides the 120V AC that our appliances expect. It’s interesting, but not cheap: $3600. Product page. Mio C620 GPS features 3D graphics
2007-12-18 18:06:00 The stand-alone GPS market is getting incredibly competitive and Mio isn’t resting on their freshly acquired laurels. The Mio C620 will feature limited 3G graphics to display terrain elevation and landmarks, thanks to the new MioMap 2008 software. I can only speculate, but I sense that more buildings will be added… once Mio gets them modeled (it’s a ton of work). Points of interest will show up as “sprites” in the 3D environment. The overall look of the software is new, and we can only hope that there is a better map upgrade mechanism, this time. Cell Phone Spending To Surpass Land Lines In 2007
2007-12-18 15:06:00 You knew it would happen someday. And that day appears to be now. Americans now spend more money on cell phones and mobile service than they do for so-called “land lines”. iPhone GPS module video demo
2007-12-17 23:44:00 Partfoundry has a video that shows how their iPhone GPS module works. The GPS connects to the iPhone’s connector and an additional piece of software sends the GPS coordinates to Google Maps. At the moment, you would still need to hack your iPhone in order to install a third-party application, but this launches only in February ($90), so who knows what can happen by then. What you see here is the rendering of partfoundry’s commercial GPS module for the iPhone - encased in a stylish plastic enclosure that should make it a little easier on the eyes. The partfoundry GPS offering has been branded as locoGPS (location and GPS, get it?), and, by the looks of the rendering, has slimmed down on partfoundry’s prototype GPS module. The $89 locoGPS is still slated for February of next year, just in time for all those third-party developers to make use of the official Apple iPhone SDK and craft the GPS navigational software that partfoundry is betting on. CellPhoneSoft updates LinkBoy; Provides Symbian UIQ3 based smartphone owner
2007-12-17 15:27:00 I keep returning to UIQ Fast Track in Budapest, Hungary. Today’s reason is that Zoltan Gyorgypal from CellPhoneSoft, whom I’ve met there, informed me that he’s updated its popular LinkBoy application. The newly released LinkBoy 1.40 goes beyond earlier versions, and not only allows you to customize the home screen of your Symbian UIQ3 based device (Sony Ericsson smartphones, Motorola Z8), but also adds additional tweaking on top of it. For instance, if you’re using the Sony Ericsson P990i there are new “Enhanced Activity options” for selective display of shortcut sets depending on flip mode. In addition, LinkBoy 1.40 enables even faster access to favorite apps by allowing you to set numeric keys as hotkeys for invoking shortcuts. Next, you can configure font sizes and add blank space between icons. Finally, Zoltan made sure the new version of LinkBoy fixes all the small bugs from the previous versions and is now faster than ever before… Yeah... More About: Smartphone , Updates , Owner
