Nokia N800
2007-01-30 07:13:02 I’ve been seeing quite a bit about this Nokia N800 device. While I think it’s a neat little toy, it’s not something I would consider a UMPC. I think the N800 is more of a glorified eMachine then a UMPC. It is small, does not run windows, and is not good for much more than checking email and surfing the web. However it also does come with a small pricetag unlike most feature backed UMPC’s. More About: Nokia N800 , Nokia N80

UMPC vs. Tablet
2007-01-26 19:11:02 With tablet computers becoming smaller and more portable, can they really compare to a UMPC? Of course everyone is going to have their own opinion, however the first thing that comes to my mind is usability. Sure the idea behind the Ultra Mobile Personal Computer is of course the ultra mobile part. But, take for instance the Sony VAIO VGN-UX280P. My first thoughts were how cool and tiny this thing was. However, it did not take long at all for me to get frustrated trying to navigate Windows XP on a little 4.5” screen. And let me tell you that when I say small, I mean small. My finger nail is larger then the start menu. After continuing to use it, figuring I would eventually get used to it, I only got more frustrated. It’s tiny portable composure finally meant nothing when navigating around Windows is next to impossible. On the flip side of this however, there is the Motion Computing LS800 tablet. Physically speaking it’s more than twice the size of the Sony. Making ... More About: Tabl , Tablet
New Nokia N800 Internet Tablet
2007-01-26 19:11:02 770 owners who use the Wi-Fi enabled device for web browsing, email and chat may not have a huge reason to buy the N800, but everyone else may. Costing only $400, this portable internet tablet has an 800×480 touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VGA-video calling camera, SD slots, faster RAM, faster CPU, and amazing battery life. Even with Wi-Fi on and constant use, the tablet didn’t have to be charged for at least five days. That’s plenty of time for you to find an outlet even if you’re traveling for business. As for performance, it’s not quite fast enough to process YouTube or Google Video, so people who wanted to watch YouTube in the kitchen are out of luck. However, the great Wi-Fi reception lets you sneak off an email or IM where laptops and smartphones can’t. The only downside to devices like the N800 is the size. It’s not as big as a laptop or larger UMPC, but larger than a cellphone, so you’re stuck carrying it in a bag. If you have ... More About: Internet , Nokia , Inter , Tabl , Tablet |
