Asthma TV News Spot
2009-07-01 05:59:00
The video above is a local TV news spot that I did on Monday, May 18th, 2009 for the 5 o'clock newscast. This is a great opportunity I was given by the hospital. I think this figures out to be once every other month for me. Today's topic was asthma. It's been kind of frustrating for me, because on three other occasions, I was scheduled to be on, but for whatever reason, the segment was cancelled. So, that's why I really didn't mention things beforehand.Last weekend, as I have done on three other occasions, I went through my slides that I was going to present. I rehearsed the pace at I was going to speak (I tend to talk fast when I get nervous) and rehearsed the inflections (I did not want to sound monotone), and of course, I rehearsed the content of the slides.I thought that my almost 100 shows on live internet radio would prepare me for live TV. I was wrong. There were three cameras there and I got flustered as to which one I was supposed to talk in to - or was I supposed to t...

Fireworks Injuries TV News Spot
2009-06-30 09:01:00
What you'll see above is my 2nd interview on local TV news talking about health issues. In this spot, it starts out with a news item about fireworks sales and then I talk about some statistics about fireworks injuries along with some tips to follow for the Fourth Of july weekend to be safe. You can also read about my own critique about this interview in another post. If you found this informative, I encourage you to check out my first TV news spot talking about asthma. Enjoy! Interview Critique
2009-06-30 03:55:00
In the video above, you'll see and hear my thoughts on my latest local TV news spot talking about fireworks safety. This interview is following a long seven days of working which included a Joint Commission survey - as I mentioned in this post - was pretty stressful for me. And, in addition to that, I was on call this past weekend. But despite that, and feeling fatigued, I felt that I was ready for this interview. I have been through this before - well once - with my interview about asthma. As you can see in the "before" video above, I felt pretty confident with the material. I practiced to myself more than a few times in the car driving up to the TV station. Did I mention that this was live and there was no "take two" possible? So, I get at the TV station in plenty of time. I check in at the front desk, and almost immediately, I'm whisked back to the studio. It was pretty cool seeing how the news is produced. I saw the anchor reading from the teleprompter and saw some of the behin...

The Joint Commission Experience
2009-06-28 20:19:00
Some people have asked me what I did last week and what this "Joint Commission " thing is. Especially if you see patients in the hospital on a daily basis, hearing the words "The Joint Commission" (TJC) should make you a little tense. For lack of a better term, TJC is a regulatory agency who inspects hospitals every three years or so to review hospital policies and procedures to maximize patient safety. Unfortunately, what is covered in the news a lot are patients sometimes accidentally harmed when they come to the hospital. How can this happen you ask? Most times, it is the breakdown of processes that occur in the hospital - in addition to human error.Anyway, TJC comes to hospital unannounced to conduct their survey. So, for the past year or so, the hospital has been preparing (by reviewing and updating policies and procedures) and wondering when TJC was going to stop by. It happened last week.Being the Chief of Staff for the docs of my hospital, I'm one of the people that the TJC r...

In this video from Podcamp Ohio 2, who is rockin the registration desk again this year? That's right! It's me - and some of my closest #pco09 friends. I finally got to meet drew who has been a fan of my show for a long time. We had a great discussion about the type of work that he does - specifically wound care. I'm going to have him on the show to talk about this and other topics. The rest of this video, you'll see what happens behind the scenes of the Podcamp Ohio 2 registration desk. Don't worry, more videos to come soon. Enjoy!

Pre-Podcamp Ohio 2 Video
2009-06-27 03:53:00
I know I haven't had a chance to talk about it yet, but I had a great time at Podcamp Ohio 2 last weekend in Columbus. In these next few posts, I will share some video and come comments about the video and about the conference. In this video, it is the night before Podcamp and we had a little gathering at a local mexican restaurant. It's kind of interesting, especially since this was the first time that I saw some of these people in a year - since the last Podcamp Ohio. It was kind of funny seeing everybody with their smartphones, taking video, taking pictures, and other geeky, techy stuff. So enjoy this and there will be more Podcamp Ohio 2 video to come!

Pre-Podcamp Show Wrapup
2009-06-19 05:44:00
I have to tell you that I am so happy for the show tonight. It didn't start off how I'd like. What do I mean by that? Well, I had a hospital meeting right before the show. About halfway through the meeting, I thought things were going ok and that I'd be on time at home for the live show. Then, there was that one agenda item which brought everything down. I ended up being about 5-10 minutes late for the show. One of the great things about twitter is that as soon as I put a twitter post up - boom - there were about 5-7 people popping up in the chat room - incredible. So, you need to know that the show really didn't start going until about 13 minutes into the show. So, feel free to fast forward to that part to listen. (You can listen on the player above or download the show here)Thanks so much to Angelo, Merry, and Daniel for hanging on through the majority of the show to discuss Podcamp. Thanks also to Jeremy, Rocky, Jamie, and Brother Wolf for calling into the show (I hope that I ...

Dr. A Show 105: Blogiversary
2009-06-18 12:10:00
Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern TimeEven though the official blogiversary date is tomorrow (My first blog post was June 19, 2006), we're gonna be celebrating my three years in the medical blogisphere tonight on The Doctor Anonymous Show . It's hard to believe that it has been this long already. Lots of blogs and come and gone in this time - and, to be honest, I thought this one would be one that would not quite be around that long. But, hey, hooray! Three years a still plugging along! In addition to that, show 105 will also be the unofficial online kickoff party for Podcamp Ohio 2 which will be taking place in just two days in Columbus. Angelo, the Lead Organizer for #PCO2, had his final planning podcast last night, and will be joining us live for the show tonight. I hope that other people who are attending and/or presenting at #PCO2 will be calling into the show to talk about their sessions, or just calling in to say how excited they are about the upcoming event. Also chec...

Did you know that this week is my three year anniversary in the blogosphere? I know that I haven't been doing a lot of "traditional blogging" lately, but, hey, I'm still around. We'll be celebrating that on the show this week. (Also check out my video post above; BTW, don't you love the video quality from my new camcorder? lol)In addition to that, show 105 will be the "unofficial" Podcamp Ohio kickoff party - since Podcamp Ohio 2 will be coming up this weekend in Columbus. If you remember last year (specifically show 40), you know we had a great time taking calls of people who were presenters and attendees to last year's Podcamp Ohio. Also, if you didn't know, I'm taking time away from the show in July, so this will be the next to last show before my break. So, join me and my friends on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio. We're going to have a good time! Hope you can join us!

Show 103 & 104 Wrap-up
2009-06-17 12:19:00
Sorry this post is so late getting out. I did want to thank Cliff Ravenscraft for being my guest on Show 103. We had a great conversation about how he started in the new media world - specifically blogging and podcasting. Little did Cliff know that a podcast about the TV show Lost would really start his podcast success. Cliff's GSPN podcast network now has about 20 podcasts on it.We also had a great conversation about how he decided to leave his "regular" job in the insurance industry to go podcasting full time. During this difficult time in his professional life, Cliff shared this situation with his podcast audience. Cliff's latest podcast project is called "Pursuing A Balanced Life," which include changes in his health/fitness plan and finding a balance between work and family life. Finally, we discussed the session that he is presenting at Podcamp Ohio 2 on Saturday, June 20, 2009. In addition to producing podcasts, Cliff also serves as a podcast consultant and sells podcast equ...

Thursday, June 11th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern TimeThis week begins a kind of unofficial Podcamp Ohio month on The Doctor Anonymous Show . I'm very excited about Show 103 in that we have coming on the show podcast guru Cliff Ravenscraft from the podcast network GSPN.tv. The first time I met Cliff was at last year's Podcamp Ohio. You can see the interview we had above.More than a year ago, Cliff took the big leap in leaving a job in the insurance industry to the life of a full time podcaster. In addition to producing a bunch of podcasts, Cliff also does podcast consulting work and sells podcast equipment. Cliff is presenting a session at Podcamp Ohio on June 20th. We'll talk about that and about his newest podcast he calls "Pursuing A Balanced Life," which is climbing the popularity ranks over on iTunes. I hope you're able to join us Thursday night! If you are new to the show, I encourage you to catch us live. There is a great chat room that also goes on. You can even see my shining face...

This week, The Doctor Anonymous Show welcomes podcast guru Cliff Ravenscraft from GSPN.tv to the show. In addition to presenting at Podcamp Ohio this month, Cliff is the founder of the GSPN.tv podcast network, a podcast consultant, and also sells podcast equipment. If you haven't already figured out, Cliff does podcasting, not as a hobby, but as a living. He formerly had a lucrative job selling insurance, but walked away from that to pursue his passion of podcasting. In addition to Podcamp and podcasting, we'll also discuss his most recent podcast creation, or has he calls it, a "lifestyle change" which has caused him to be "Pursuing A Balanced Life." One of these steps has been to put more emphasis on health and fitness. In the past 6 weeks, Cliff has lost 16 pounds - and we'll talk about how he did that. Like the rest of us, it is at times a struggle to balance work time and family time, and Cliff tells about this struggle in this new podcast as well.I first met Cliff a year ago...

Show 102 Wrap-up
2009-06-09 04:19:00
Lost of audio problems plagued Show 102 from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I even thought about deleting the show - mainly because I was so frustrated throughout the show. But, as you can see above, show 102 has been kind of popular as far as BlogTalkRadio standards. And, just to let everyone know, this is not your "typical" Dr. A Show. This type of show is one where my BlogTalkRadio friends called into my show for support and to say hello. At the beginning of the show, I tried to do some news stories, but didn't really work out that way. So, I hope you enjoy it. Sometimes it's interesting to see how a show host endures the stress of something like technical problems. See how I dealt with it. Thanks to all those who listened live and who already listened to the archived show!

I've been a bad show host in that I have forgotten to put up the links for the two previous shows. As you remember, on Show 98, we talked about the huge medblogger meetup which will be taking place before BlogWorld and New Media Expo this fall. The Medblogger meet up will be Thursday, October 15th, 2009 in Las Vegas. You can listen to show 98 on the player below or download here. For Show 99, I want to thank BlogTalkRadio for featuring the show at near the top of the page (see graphic above). I was very pleasantly surprised with this. As you know, Show 99 was "The Night Shift with Dr. A and Kat." At the beginning of the show, we talked about how I saw a movie and went to a winery before the show - that's what made the show so entertaining. You can listen to Show 99 above in the player or download the show here. The 2nd part of the Show 99, we talked about some news stories including the kid and mom who were on the run from court ordered chemotherapy.

So this is blogging
2009-05-20 04:44:00
It's no secret that even though I still call myself a "blogger," my blog posts, other than talking about my show, have been few and far between. I definitely have no excuses, but I'll probably offer some below. And, right off the bat, I'm going to apologize if this post is rambling, because it is....I don't know why I haven't been writing a lot over the past few months. Sure my work, and over all life, schedule has been crazy, but everyone who blogs - pretty much has a busy schedule. I do admit that in addition to not writing a lot, I haven't been reading a lot of blogs either. I know that reading other people's blogs would motivate me to write - at least sometimes. So, this post, is basically getting me back into some kind of writing capacity again. It's hard to believe, but next month will be my three year blog anniversary. It's really hard to believe. I just wanted to get something out there again - at least to write something. Hopefully, my blog post creativity will slow...

Thanks to Kat for being my co-host on tonight's show. She updated us on what's going on in her life. Kat always shares the best stories! We then went into the news including Pfizer giving free drugs to those who lost their jobs, how to choose the right meat, and a Cincinnati area BBQ place having a mannequin with little clothes on (really). Also thanks to Ben for calling in tonight to share a little bit about his adventures with skype. Kimmie also called into the last part of the show. Kimmie said that there is a waiting list for getting the bacon vodka (really). Finally, I asked Ben to talk about his recent experience with doctors in the care of his daughter during her hospitalization.I actually extended out the show to two hours tonight, because our buddy Burl was feeling under the weather and had to cancel his show tonight. Gotta admit that tonight's show was not my best effort. But, I'm not going to delete the show - like some other people would do. I'm still going to put it out there, because there was a few glimmering moments that were ok. I talked about the latest health/medical news stories of the week. I also had some audio clips that I played during the show. The first sign of frustration was that I was having problems with the sound, and I had to restart my skype. Then, there were problems with the chat room. Now, the thing is that there have been these same problems with other shows on the network this week, so, it's hard to say what's going on. Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern TimeNo, Show 96 is not actually the season finale. It's just that, at least in the eastern and central time zones, the season finale for some of your favorite TV shows will be going on at the same time of this live show. But, my show will go on -mainly because I don't watch too much TV anymore and probably because I cannot help but like hearing myself talk - hehe.I will be covering some news stories this week including all this talk about US Health Care reform by the White House and Congress this week. (I guess with the Swine Flu story fading out in the press, this was a good time to talk about health care reform again lol) You'll see a video above that was released by the Associated Press early this week.In the social media world this week, the most popular story has to do with Twitter (imagine that). 2009-05-07 05:11:00
Thursday, May 7th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern TimeWe're talking medicine & health news stories on this week's Doctor Anonymous Show . Probably the most interesting medical news story this week has to do with Connie Culp who revealed herself during a press conference that she was the recipient of the first face transplant in the US which occurred almost 6 months ago. Our good friend Ramona also wrote a post about this event this week. In other news, there was also a story about a double hand transplant in Georgia. I'll also share an interesting story about the swine/H1N1 flu and even share an interesting blog post about medical apps on the iPhone. If there is any time left, I'll also share some more thoughts on my recent trip to Chicago. Have you seen the latest videos? They are over on my Face book Fan Page.
