Awareness Ribbon and Bracelet Colors and Meanings
2008-06-12 23:26:00
I always see people wearing ribbons or bracelets to support different organizations/ disease awareness, and I wonder what color is for what? It can be confusing. Some colors and awareness ribbons have multiple meanings. We did the best we could to compile a list of colors and meanings from multiple sources and we checked with many of the foundations represented for accuracy. Click to read more ...

Product Reviews: Snacks, Cookies, Crackers and More!
2008-06-09 01:10:00
I am a snacker. I graze on snacks throughout the day, instead of solid heavy "sit down" meals. Instead of fighting this, I have decided to find tasty, snacks that are good for me too. If I stocked my pantry with better choices, than I thought I would eat better. I had announced that May was going to be Healthy Eating Month here at butyoudontlooksick.com, but I am choosing to continue to eat well as long as I can. Now that I have found a world of better eating, why go back to the world of processed, chemicals, and fast food? Click to read more ...

Healthy Eating Food Review: Yummy Food from Barbara's Bakery
2008-06-01 04:27:00
I always knew about Barbara's Puffins cereal, and now since I am spending the month eating healthier, I thought it was time for me to try some of the other products made by Barbara's Bakery . In the month of May, as I tried to eat better, I learned an important lesson, and that is, I eat what I keep in the house. If I keep junk food in the house, I will snack on it. Even with the best of intentions, if it is there, eventually it will get eaten. Once I started stocking my pantry with better choices, I started eating better. Of course it always helps when the snacks and foods taste good, as well. Click to read more ...

Healthy Snack Review: Crunch Dried Snacks from Sensible Foods
2008-05-14 22:11:00
It is Healthy Snack and Food Month at ButYouDontLookSick.com! I've made a promise to myself that I would start eating healthier. I feel that the choices we make, with what enters our bodies, is definitely one thing we can do to help us feel better. It feels great to make positive choices. When you are like me and you have a chronic illness, it is so important to eat well. I think many times the reason we do not eat as well as we should is because we are just too tired to cook, or too tired to shop for the healthier choices. I found a great tasting crunchy, sweet snack that I am now officially addicted to. I didn't think it would be possible to be addicted to something healthy, but I am! Click to read more ...

Product Review: ZEVIAŽ carbonated stevia supplement is THE NATURAL ALTERNAT
2008-05-14 01:08:00
It is Healthy Snack and Food Month at ButYouDontLookSick.com! I am admittedly a diet soda junkie. I drink a few glasses a day and although I know it is not the best thing for me to drink, I enjoy it and miss it when I do not have a diet soda. I do not want the calories of regular soda, so what were my options? When I heard about Zevia I was anxious to try it. Click to read more ...

Product Review: Healthy Choices with Luna and Clif brand Nutrition Bars
2008-05-13 06:17:00
We are focusing on healthy foods and snacks for the month of May! I am a picky eater at times, and I am always on the go. Eating healthy is hard but Luna Bars and Clif bars have made it easier. Now I have no excuses not to take better care of myself. I have tried numerous nutrition bars, meal replacement bars and granola snack bars, and I found them either not satisfying, not appetizing or they left a bad after-taste in my mouth. I have tried various flavors of both the Luna bar and the Clif bar and I was pleasantly surprised at how good they all taste. Click to read more ...

My daughter Christine has had Lupus, with the accompanying vast array of symptoms, since she was 15 years old. Note to my Mom - On Mother's Day
2008-05-08 02:44:00
I would like to thank my mom for her persistence and her nagging. Persistence for raising a child with chronic complaints. She knew I did not sleep well, she knew I had joint pain and she knew I seemed to catch everything that was going around. She could have thought I was faking it, to get out of school, or exaggerating to get attention. Instead she brought me to the doctors, until the doctors themselves could not deny something was going on, even if they did not know what. Thus my odd blood work was watched bi-annually and I saw more than my fair share of specialists. Many things were ruled out a young age and without this persistence, this understanding, it would have been years before I received the treatment I needed. Just having that one person on my side, fighting for my needs made and makes a great deal of difference. I may have been frustrated with finding a diagnosis, but I never felt like anyone thought I was crazy or a hypochondriac, not with my mom on my side. C...

Product Review: The Baby Sharmooz Baby Satin Pillow Case
2008-05-02 04:19:00
After dealing with my own hair loss, due to the medications I am on for Lupus, I am extra sensitive to any hair issues. When I saw my baby daughter with bald spots from lying in her crib on her back, I was upset. Even though she did not know the difference, I noticed and strangers and family members noticed as well. I was looking for something that would help, and I found "The Baby Sharmooz". As always, I love supporting other work at home moms, so when I learned that this was a mom-invented product I was thrilled. Click to read more ...

Product Review: bitsybowsandtinsyties.com no slip hair bows for little girl
2008-05-01 04:27:00
Bitsy Bows & Tinsy Ties is a family owned business. As usual, I love to shop at and help promote work at home moms. Tiffani is the owner, and she makes every product with great care. I love handmade items and I wish I could make bows that match every one of my little girl's outfits, but with arthritis in my hands, it would be close to impossible for me to make tiny bows. If you are like me and are limited because of your disability, consider shopping with her. You can still get quality handmade items, even if you can not make them yourself! Click to read more ...

Book Review: The Truth About Back Pain: A Revolutionary, Individualized App
2008-04-07 19:11:00
This book is an interesting read for anyone who suffers from back pain. It is written by two successful chiropractors. I would say that if you do not believe in the benefits of chiropractic medicine, this book may not be for you. I felt the authors wrote this book with a "voice" that seemed truly honest, and friendly. It seemed to me they really wanted to help people feel better. I never got the impression that they were "selling" their ideas or products, which unfortunately happens some times in health books. The book is written from the belief that back pain comes from three distinct causes: structural physical damage; nutritional/diet; and emotional-stress and personal issues that may affect health. I agree with this philosophy as I have seen in my own life how everything, including exercise, stress and work, effect how I feel. Click to read more ...

Product Review: baby shoes and more from brodiegirl.com
2008-04-01 21:12:00
I was looking for something a little bit more fun then the typical baby shoes that look like white sneakers or white sandals. We have never been a bland, boring, or vanilla white family and we were looking for soft soled shoes since our baby is not walking yet. We love to have fun with bold colors and fun designs, so I was so happy when I went to brodiegirl.com. We picked out the cutest slip-on shoes. They have tons of designs to choose from so we chose the pink shoes with little skull and crossbones on them, and black shoes with rockin' guitars. These shoes are sold for about $24 USD. Product Review of OXO Good Grips Citrus Squeezer
2008-03-31 03:12:00
We all want to get the most out of our citrus fruits, which usually means squishing them until we?ve gotten every drop of juice. Some people recommend that you microwave your lemon for a few moments or roll it on the counter, but when it comes right down to it, you still need an effective way to remove the juice. An electronic juicer would work fine, but they aren?t cost effective if you only squeeze the occasional lemon. A traditional reamer is generally efficient, but it?s not an easy tool to use for those with exhaustion or joint issues, and it doesn?t catch the seeds. As it turns out, the newest product on the market has proven to be the most functional and intelligent. Click to read more ...

Book Review: Heart Smart for Black Woman and Latinas
2008-03-26 03:23:00
A 5 -week Program for Living a Heart- Health y Lifestyle So, February came and went, and I was so busy that I missed "Heart Month". The American Heart Association had many program's Like the infamous "go Red" campaign, and as I watched the news anchors wear red, and even my favorite TV shows incorporating the theme, I skipped out on checking on my own health. A Husband's Perspective - Lupus Advocacy Day - Washington, DC
2008-03-24 05:06:00
I am proud of my wife, Christine. I am proud of the work she does for the Lupus Alliance, this website, and for our family. I am proud of her passion to help others, and the impact she has had on so many people through her speaking engagements, and of course, through ButYouDontLookSick.com. I had the pleasure of joining Christine and the Lupus Alliance on a recent trip to Washington DC, to promote Lupus awareness and lobby for the support of local congressional representatives. We decided to bring our seven month old daughter, Olivia, and my role was to care for her during the trip so that Christine could fully participate in the Advocacy Day activities. This included training sessions, lectures, and individual meetings with congressional representatives Carolyn McCarthy (D, New York) and Peter King (R, New York). Click to read more ...
