Victory is MINE
2007-11-19 16:21:00 Well, after my lousy weigh-in on Friday something inside me just clicked. "Stupid scale... I'll show him!"So Saturday, I rocked it. In fact Sunday morning I got on the scale and not only was my gain gone, I was down another half pound. Now let me share with you why this is nothing short of a miracle. We started out the day here for an extended family birthday breakfast.(I love this place. I just ignore that "corral" is part of the name)Then back home for a birthday party which included the awesomest Spiderman cupcakes you've ever seen. Frosting 2 inches high. The kids ate most of them, Aaron ate 2 of them, we took one to a neighbor's house, and HaHAAA! No more cupcakes. I escaped with a lick of frosting. Then out on a date! (and thankfully not to Arby's this time) I had some jumbo shrimp tacos. These were fantastic. Not a salad, but not battered and fried either. What a great day. Seriously. I also managed to squeeze in a 4-mile run between festivities. No deprivation, no guilt, ... More About: Victory , Mine

2007-11-16 16:02:00 Three days ago I was down .8Can I just use that as my weigh in today? Because apparently being excited to step on the scale (yes, I was really excited) doesn't guarantee a loss. In fact, I GAINED. Sigh. The funny thing is I was totally gearing up for a "Weigh-In Friday, I Actually Lost Weight!" post. You know, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Taking a step off of that plateau. I really did have a great week. I thought my eating went really well; every time I got on the scale this week, I was encouraged. Maybe the scale just needs another trip to the closet, I don't know.I promise someday I'll get back to actually losing weight. For now, I'm just trying to not let the number wreak havoc with my efforts.(By the way, Tara has got an progression photo in the form of her driver's license. ) More About: Whine
Just Curious
2007-11-14 15:48:00 After yesterday's post, you've got me thinking groceries.Anyone out there want to tell me how much you actually spend in a week or month?* How many are in your family? How many nights a week do you eat at home? Do you live in an area where produce is ridiculously cheap? (Chile) Or way too expensive?Do you find that eating healthier is more or less expensive than eating crap? (And by "crap" I mean packaged, processed foods. not actual crap. That, of course, would be very cheap)*(If you don't want to answer those questions, you're in good company. Even though I'm a total cheapskate, we do have five people in our family and four of those people are boys. But if you do, I'd love to read all about it! ) More About: Curious
Tight Body for a Tightwad
2007-11-13 17:16:00 I am a very frugal person. VERY frugal. Beyond cheapskate would probably be more accurate. I believe my lack of willingness to spend money comes from a couple different sources: a) We don't actually have extra money TO spend. Always a factor. b) Guilt for those living in extremely impoverished circumstances. c) My pride in getting a good deal. Whether it's a car, or a pair jeans, I love a good deal and will inform perfect strangers how much this shirt from target cost. (so they can go get one too!) I have little contests with myself to see how long I can go without actually spending money. Sometimes I am proud of my thriftiness, sometimes I am totally embarrassed by it. What does this have to do with weight loss? It's cheap! Anyone can try it. Oh sure, there are plenty of gadgets, gizmos, books, attire, charts, pills, and programs and a million other places for you to spend money. But you don't have to. My weight loss "budget" has included a gym membership and produce. Oh yeah,... More About: Body
Tying up Loose Ends
2007-11-09 15:25:00 Well, I lost that pesky pound that put me into the 140's last week. But I'm a little wary of taking the scale at face value. I've been exercising like a maniac. Actually more like a maniacal lunatic, since I threw in all those runs on top of my normal routine. My body is still doing weird things though from weaning the baby. And my eating this week has been...off. Not horrible, but I'm just eating weird things. Now I'd like to take a minute and tie up some loose ends.First of all, I'd like to thank Mrs. Furious for this little gem: The "You Make Me Smile Award." Unfortunately I'm going to be a bit of a scrooge hoard it for myself. I'm too lazy to pass it on to those who really deserve it. Too many people make me smile. So sue me. -----Jaime left a comment yesterday with this question: "What's the difference between doing it [plank] on my elbows or hands (like the top of a push-up)? Is one harder? Do the work different things?" I have no idea! And after hours of consulting ... More About: Ends , Loose Ends

I Don't Know Jack About Running
2007-11-07 16:26:00 But I think I remember hearing somewhere that a 12 minute mile (cough) isn't going to win me any medals. I've been trying to sneak in 2-ish mile workouts here and there to prepare for my big 4 miler on Thanksgiving Day and I gotta tell ya, I'm a little disappointed. Somehow I thought that going to spin on a regular basis would so drastically improve my cardiovascular strength that I'd be able to pop out, oh I don't know, a 9 or 10 minute pace (uh yeah. Well actually, spinning HAS greatly improved my cardiovascular strength. It always does. It's just that with running, you have to...move. Legs, arms, the whole body really). So I suppose I should concentrate just finishing the 4 mile race and not really worry about how fast I go.*swallowing pride*So I'm altering my goals ever so slightly for this week; instead of spinning this morning I went for a long-ish run. I'll probably do this for the next two weeks (replace a class with a run) until the big race day on Thanksgiving. Anyw... More About: Running , Jack
Im"plank"ible
2007-11-06 15:26:00 Continuing with my plank fixation, here's a new pose to make you cry, improve your balance while strengthening those abs. If you're a newbie to plank position, start here. If you're unsure if you're doing it correctly -- here's some advice from a pro. Ok, on to the torture:Although I know it's done all the time in yoga, my pump teacher loves to throw this little move in our routine now and then. I hate it...only because I am very bad at it.Seriously. Try it. (But remember, only if you want to. I don't have any business posting any exercises here because I don't know what the crap I'm doing. I'm a blogger, not a trained professional.) You just start in good old plank position and then lift a leg...then the opposite arm...then just hold it. Simple, right?Ha! Can anyone really do these? And look all straight like the lady above?I usually do a modified version of them in my class so I don't look ridiculous. Swizzlepop asked for a demo and I came *this* close to posting a vide...
Pain is Temporary, Glory Lasts Forever!!
2007-11-05 15:23:00 This is one of the things my spin teacher yelled at us this morning. Along with, "You're so close to that guy, you can hear him breathing, now PASS HIMM!!!!!"I love this class. And I have set a goal that when January rolls around I will not be lost among the new year's resolution newbies. I really want to be one of the ones who "has been coming" (even if it's only for two months, they ARE the busiest months of the year). You know, one of those people who has friendly banter back and forth with the teacher, who sits by other spinfolk and chats about their weekend. That is so not me right now. It will require a great deal of effort for introverted old me to sit in the front-ish and perhaps even start up a conversation with a complete stranger. Yikes. I might even have to chat up the teacher a couple of times before class. Oh dear. This will be hard. But so worth it if I can look around the class in January and give a knowing wonder-how-long-they're-going-to-last nod to the old-tim... More About: Pain , Forever , Glory , Temp
Got Milk?
2007-11-02 05:50:00 Happy Friday Everyone! I got on the scale this morning and have gained a pound. (Hello 140's) But hold on, it's not bad!A couple of days ago the youngling took his last swig of breastmilk. That's right. I have officially weaned my baby from nursing. And while most of you will think, "Oh, um...ok," Any of you who have recently gone through this (or are about to), it's kind of a big deal. Only because a) My witto baby is growing up!! and b) I'm ECSTATIC to have my body back. From the day I got pregnant to the day I stopped nursing, my body was in charge of sustaining and nourishing another human being. And it's OVAH! Woo-hoo!Sooo, if this was way too much information (like for brothers-in-laws), sorry. I can't imagine anyone out there who really is interested in my lactation cessation. But it's related because I know my weight will be fluctuating a lot in the next couple of days, especially with the hormone changes. This little milestone we hit this week means I get a lot of... I Did It
2007-11-01 04:35:00 I have successfully made it through the day without eating a single piece of Halloween candy. Not even an M&M. The boys had loads o' fun and totally stuffed their faces. The gummy hamburgers were a hit, which I just find so strange. When the kids saw our candy bowl, they usually let out a, "Yessss! I LOVE these!" I was glad to feel like I didn't disappoint the trick-or-treaters; which for some reason was important to me... might have something to do with handing out nickels as a child, sorry Mom.The only time it got really hard was when MY trick-or-treaters returned home and showed me all of their candy. My three year-old actually took out a Reeses Peanut butter cup, completely unwrapped it, and then just left it right in front of me on the couch. I just clenched my teeth and tried to really focus on what he was saying. But then a bag of Swedish Fish drew his attention away...until he saw the Dots and then, "OH Look! I got a gummy Hangaber! YESSS!" I grabbed the Reeses when he w...
Candy-Free Halloween
2007-10-31 14:05:00 Yeah, you read that right.I just got back from my spin class and feel fantastic. Candy is the last thing I want to put into my body right now so I'm goin' with it. I'M NOT HAVING ANY HALLOWEEN CANDY TODAY. There. Since I posted it and the world knows, I'll have to be accountable. (Although when I told Aaron, he was like, "Uh-huh. So...what. You're just going to save it for tomorrow morning?" Noooo Mr. Doubty-pants. If I could get through this holiday with totally falling off the bandwagon, THAT would be much sweeter than any old Milky Way or Snickers.)oh yeah. I took my smart reader's advice and bought these to give away tonight. Here's a close-up:Gummy Hamburgers. Ewww.Good luck tonight! Anyone else not eating candy today? 2007-10-30 13:01:00 Here is a guide for which candy to avoid when rummaging through your child's Halloween candy tomorrow, and in the weeks to come. Oh C'mon! You moms out there don't even TRY to tell me you've never done it. And for you non-moms (which I believe is most of you actually) I'm sure you'll come across your fair share of Halloween candy too, so keep that gaurd up! This is where I'm vulnerable, so I hope in sharing I'll think about these numbers before I actually eat anything: * 22 pieces of candy corn = 140 (calories)* One Package Reese's Peanut Butter Cups = 260* Two (does anyone ever just eat ONE?) fun size Milky Way bars = 180* Two Butterfinger fun size bars = 200 calories* One package King-sized Twix = 474 (yeeeesh)Check these out too, not AS bad (that is calorie-wise, I mean there still have zero nutritonal value), if you like them.* 1 Tootsie Pop 1 pop = 60 calories* 1 Tootsie Roll 1 small roll = 13 calories (alas, 13 measly calories! Friday Recap
2007-10-26 14:50:00 Ha! thanks for sending me this Hailey!Well, I didn't exactly meet all of my goals. I just plain forgot Aaron was going to be out of town and didn't plan ahead very well. But I'm excited for next week. This week I'm aiming again for spinning 3 times, and weights 2. If I meet my goals, my reward for next week will be to post my favorite silly video (that I've wanted to put up for awhile...but had no reason). So check back next Friday !and Yes, I got on the scale today. Another maintenance week. Which I am thrilled with considering my how out-of-whack my eating was (and how freaked out I was about my pants being too tight...) I have to kind of go into over-drive with my awareness during this time of year. I find myself putting things in my mouth just because they're there. And yummy. I think the scale might need an extended vacation. I'm going to give it a few more weeks. Now go check out Mrs. Furious holding her "Fat Mom" picture! More About: Recap
Food Diary on Steriods
2007-10-26 05:47:00 Ok, so yesterday was not as bad as I thought it would be (not that great either though. Vegetables? What are those?). I attribute that to two things: 1) I was crazy busy every single minute yesterday. Seriously, I was lucky my teeth got brushed. 2) I forget the teeny little fact that Aaron was going to be out of town yesterday, so no weights class. -sob- I don't think my body was as hungry as it's been over the last couple of days.Let's start off on a high note shall we?I love staring at the 51% as I eat my sweetened honey clusters and flakes. 13 grams of fiber! This cereal is so weird though. The clusers taste so yummy it makes me suspicious. And the brown flakes? They are okay but taste remarkably like paper. In a good way. Like I said: weird.I was tempted soon after by more cereal. I tend to take a bite or two when I'm feeding le bebe. It's whole milk. Ew. Who loves ingesting invisible fat grams in the form of MILK? Not I.Now onto the Zone Bar. Perhaps the least exciting ... More About: Diary , Food
Oh Dear
2007-10-25 16:40:00 So remember this?"We have chosen to measure our progress publicly by pants size rather than pounds. " It's in our sidebar. And I stick by it! However, I have noticed a rather (a-hem) unpleasant development. My pants actually DO feel a little bit tighter. As in I take a pair of jeans I was wearing 2 weeks ago from the dryer and uh, they are kinda tighter than I remember immediate post-dryer fit should be (and remember no scale). I've been spinning, I've been lifting, I've been burning loads of calories, but I don't think I was prepared with the right stuff when my appetite sky-rocketed. So I'm snapping pictures of my temptations and meals again tomorrow and perhaps for the next couple of days. See you later tonight!(I'm taking comments off just for today. May The Force Be With You
2007-10-24 13:23:00 I promise not to do this all the time. This isn't a parenting blog, but these costumes have taken up so much time and energy, that I must post. They're done! That's me in the background. I was feeling so bloated yesterday and when I saw this picture (after thinking the kids were cute), I thought, "Hey, I'm ok, I don't look like the blimp that I felt like all day today!" Fairly Hairy
2007-10-23 17:01:00 This morning in my pump class we had to partner up to do our ab exercises. We did these (sorry I couldn't find a picture):Leg raise throw: Lie flat on the floor and have a partner stand with his or her feet straddling your head. Reach back and grab onto his or her ankles or calves for leverage and stability. With your knees slightly bent, raise your legs upward and roll your lower spine inward toward your pelvis until your partner can reach out and touch your ankles. At this point, your partner should throw your legs back down toward the floor as you resist the effort. To make this exercise even more difficult, try to keep your legs from touching the floor."I wish I knew when strangers would be touching my ankles. I wouldn't have worn my capri sweats and I would've shaved my legs. (I mean really, it's practically winter people!)So, to my nice partner: so sorry if you were completely grossed out. You Helpful Readers, You
2007-10-20 17:27:00 THANK YOU all for your fantastic feedback on the last post. I got something out of every single comment. You are a smart bunch of people out there! So here's my new plan of attack:I'm going to base my goals around fitness instead of weight. (and secretly hope --but not desperately hope-- it'll result in also losing a few more pounds). My scale is out of the closet, but I'm going to try to only step on it on Fridays. If I sneak a peak, up in the closet it goes. I went to a spin class this morning and got my bootay kicked. I haven't been in awhile and It was a bit of a wakeup call really. So for this week, my goal is spin 3 times, weights 2. Running a race may also be in the future, but I've still got to do some research for my area (it's gettin a little cold up in these here parts!)As for my caloric intake, I'm just going to watch it carefully for he next week. Heck, what have I been doing for the past month? There's just this one little problem really: I would really like to loose those last pounds.
