So That's Why I Gained
2007-10-09 17:10:00 I'm carrying around my camera with me today taking pictures of everything I eat or wanted to eat. Yeah sure, a food diary would do the trick too, but it's just not as fun. I'll be back after dinner to share...
Do You Have "Goal" Jeans?
2007-10-08 14:45:00 I need a new pair of "goal" jeans. That's right. The smallest pair of pants I OWN (Banana Republic Size 8's) fit perfectly. I think part of me still thinks I can't possibly fit into anything 6 or 4 ish... ever. Weird. I've just never done it before and am having a hard time visualizing it. So sometime in the next couple of days I've got to sneak out to my favorite secondhand store and pick some up. Do the rest of you have "goal" pants? I KNOW some of you do...What do you think, is it more discouraging or motivating for you? More About: Jeans , Goal
Katie and Molly Weigh In
2007-10-05 15:48:00 Molly: Well, today I would like to throw the towel in. Luckily, there isn't a towel around. I ate perfectly this week. Within my points but I'm up 1.4 lbs. Funny, I ran into Kate at the gym while I was on Satan and she said she was up 1 lb. I was feeling bad for her because she really is working hard. I know what my problem is though - gym time. This was only my second time at the gym this week. I was telling Kate I just have to get back with 100% commitment to the gym. For me, it's eating + gym for the total package. Very frustrating...I can't even blame it on "gaining muscle" because I haven't been lifting!Positive side - I still can take Satan on! 30 minutes felt really good. I'm going shopping today and getting a whole slew of great foods and starting off a new week which includes a run to Costco for Fiber One bars. One thing that has made me chuckle this week (without being too descriptive) is that my kids LOVE the Fiber One bars. I put one in their lunches but sometimes t... More About: Katie , Weigh , Olly
Mmmm. That Keyboard is Looking Yummy....
2007-10-04 16:40:00 Have you ever had one of those days where your stomach seemed like it was just a bottomless pit? Even if you had one of these on hand to shovel (the most perfectly portioned goodfats-proteinpacked-fiberlicious snacks of course) into your mouth, you STILL would not be able to satisfy your hunger? That was me yesterday. So should I be happy that my metabolism is clipping along or fearful that I have eaten 26 tons of food? I choose the former. More About: Yummy , Keyboard
I'm Worth It
2007-10-03 16:03:00 (If you did not watch Biggest Loser last night, feel free to skip down to the next paragraph)I was so inspired during last night's episode when Bob had his team spinning at the gym. I loved it because a) I can't resist a great spin class and almost started crying when they were all yelling counting off the last sets ("Yes! Yes! I've been there! I know how you feel blue team!" and b) Bob gets it. I loved when he was talking to Patty about being a mother of 3 and how hard it is and then said, "You're worth it Patty." She nodded her head but then when he asked her to say it herself, "I'm worth it." She couldn't. He finally got her to say it through tears! So that's where I DID actually break down and cry...and was yelling (fists raised) at the tv, "YOU'RE WORTH IT PATTY!! YOU'RE WORTH IT!!"It got me thinking about this whole proccess. Am I worth the time and attention and focus and sacrifice and reward that losing weight demands? And at the risk of sounding Stuart Smalley-ish,... More About: Worth , Wort
A Little Friendly Competition
2007-10-03 06:34:00 I called my mom today and she started telling me of a great idea that they are doing at their CURVES. Today and tomorrow, anyone that wants to can put into the pot $25. Then, from now until the week of Thanksgiving the race is on as to who can be the biggest loser! Then, whoever wins gets 1/2 of the pot. There will be another weigh-in right after Christmas. What a great idea! Why? It gets you through the holidays! Maybe you're like me but I am definitely money-motivated or maybe it's just the competitive spirit in me kicking in (in a nice way that is...). How great - instead of congratulating each other for being winners, we'll be congratulating each other for being big losers! (You might not see the humor in this - sorry, it's late and I'm punchy!)I know just thinking about going into the holiday season gives me hives because I feel like I'm behind on where I want to be. But I just thought this was such a great idea. I know a lot of you have got the Christmas Challenge, it's... More About: Competition , Friendly , Litt

And no, I'm not about to whine about how I felt bloated all through the weekend or have been craving carbs like a maniac or I'm reeeeally not looking forward to weighing in this Friday. No no no. I am ecstatic because I get to link to THIS POST from Lawsons Do Dallas. It perfectly captures what life is like right now. It's gonna be a good week.

8 Foods I Should Be Eating Everday ("Should be" is Key)
2007-09-27 18:31:00 Molly: This article, "8 Foods You Should Eat Everyday," caught my eye. Hmmm, I wondered if my peanut butter m&m's were on the list? (Remember? PB is healthy for you!) Or how about my homemade chocolate chip cookies? Here's the rundown:1. Spinach: benefits include sexual enhancement (since my mom reads these posts I won't comment...let's just say I won't be feeding Taylor any spinach!) but also muscle growth, bone builder and enhanced eyesight. My bones were weakened from all of the fertility drugs, I really should start eating more spinach. Although the article says its the ultimate MAN food because it's a "Biceps builder."2.Yogurt is a cancer fighter and bone builder. It also boosts immunity. You want probiotic yogurt though. Not all yogurts are so make sure the label says "live and active cultures." 3.Tomatoes. I hate tomatoes. I can do salsa and spaghetti sauce but I can't do raw. BUT, this is why I should: cancer fighter, heart healthy, boosts immunity.4. Carrots are a ... More About: Eating
I Am So Not Vain
2007-09-26 19:16:00 Because if I were, I would not be posting this video. I was planking last night during Biggest Loser commercials (go here if you missed yesterday's post). I thought, "Hey, maybe I'll show everyone (meaning you) one of those insane versions of plank that my weights teacher has us do!" So don't laugh at how ridiculous I look in my PJ's, get on the floor and give it a try! (And remember, I am NO fitness professional. Not even a smidge. I'm only a neurotic blogger who does what her crazy --yet buff-- pump teacher tells her to do) So that was the tail end of two sets of commercials. I held regular plank for over a minute. yeehaw! (I stopped to laugh at a 30 Rock preview; that commercial with Jerry and Kenneth Ellen in the elevator just struck me at that moment as absolutely hilarious for some reason)Speaking of Biggest Loser, I really enjoyed last night's episode. Biggest Loser contestants always pull in such huge numbers in their weigh-in. I guess to see a week where they ALL ... More About: Vain
Lazy Girl Abs
2007-09-25 15:26:00 I have a confession to make. I HATE working out my abdominal muscles. Remember this post about plank? Well, I'm still not crazy about plank position but I will concede it really works my abs. This is me trying to hold it through a commercial when we were watching Biggest loser. (It may look like my butt is way too hgh in the air but I swear it's just the camera angle) These are the reasons I do it: (please note, I didn't say "reasons I like it,") It is eeeeeasy. There is NO limb movement required. Also, I feel like this is one of the few exercises I DO do for my abs where I feel it all over my stomach. It seems like a lot of other stuff is just way too localized. In my class, my teacher does psychotic versions of plank including holding a leg and/or arm out, pushups, and holding it for UNREAL amounts of time. I'm sure all of you pilateladies are shaking your head right now. It's ok. I have some major admiration for you who have that core of steel (even if it's currently hid... More About: Girl , Lazy
Peanut Butter - Dieter's Best Friend
2007-09-21 18:20:00 One of my favorite treats is Peanut Butter with Apples. It tastes a little bit like caramel on the apples. But I always measure and am careful because PB is fattening. Never eat too much. But I just read an article "All Hail Peanut Butter!" by Marge Perry, Prevention that really helped me. Here are some things I learned:1. It helps you lose weight - now don't go shoveling it in your mouth because I said that! It has a combination of fiber (2 g per serving) and protein (8g per serving) that fills you up & keeps you feeling fuller longer, so you eat less overall.2. It's packed with Nutrition-Research shows that eating peanuts can decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions. One study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that consuming 1 ounce of nuts or peanut butter (about 2 tablespoons) at least 5 days a week can lower the risk of developing diabetes by almost 30%.3. It has the good fat - Good fat?! I always get ... More About: Friend
Katie and Molly Weigh-in, New Favorite Blog, Biggest Loser, Progress Update
2007-09-21 15:38:00 Katie: Let's start with the good news shall we?The first shot is me busting out of my 10's a couple weeks after we started the blog (funny, I took the picture and thought, hey! not bad Katie!)The second shot I took last night fitting very comfortably into my 8's.Nice to see progress, it's motivating me toward those 6's. And sorry for the cropped midsection shot, it's just where you can see the most difference.*Are you wondering if I saw Lindsay Lohan this week?I did! On Wednesday I went to the gym (I even forgot my iPod! So sticking around to workout anyway was a minor victory for me), and there she was! She started out on the treadmill and then went to the back of the gym and was doing some ball exercises with a friend. Not exactly a thrilling report but it was still fun to see her.*Biggest Loser : Loved most of it but was a bit bugged by the whole vindictive vengeful feel of the black team. Christmas Challenge
2007-09-20 14:27:00 So last night we were driving home from the library with the kids and my (usually) unfailingly supportive husband smiles at me and says: "Mmm. I really feel like a treat...like a Krispy Kreme type treat"Oh please no. I have no strength when it comes to turning down the sugary wonderfulness that is Krispy Kreme. I knew if we got within a hundred feet of the place I was doomed."Oh really? Not me," I heard myself say. Phew. "Oh yeah, a treat would totally hit the spot right now." Argh! Spontaneous family togetherness through sugar based outings. Huge weakness for me. And then this thought hit me. Randi's gonna kill me. That's right. She roped me into this Christmas Challenge that her and Carolyn are hosting. Lose 10 pounds by Christmas. Well, me being the slacker that I am, only signed up to lose 6 or so. But people listen, I am so close to goal! (Well, actually I don't know if I'm close to goal because I never really set a goal weight...maybe I should) And now that summer, with al... Mom of 6 Lending a Hand to the Paparazzi
2007-09-19 16:52:00 Molly: This has nothing to do with getting fit or thin but it goes with Kate's picture of "LiLo" (heheheh - Kate opened it up, I can post about it now). This picture is of my friend helping the paparazzi get his photo bag out of the tree he is sitting in! No JOKE! We wanted to know what all the ruckus was about at the treatment center (which is blocks from our home) and we were then informed about Lindsey. The guy in the tree was just yelling at my friend to hurry and help him before he missed his "getaway" car. I would never want a life like the celebrities. They are hunted individuals. How Do You Turn Down a Free Sample?
2007-09-17 14:58:00 Every time I go to the grocery store, I walk in and turn right past the deli counter. I head straight for this,The free sample cookies. Oh how I love free samples of yummy things. Most of the time it's incentive for the small people accompanying me. Do I get one when I'm all by myself on a late night milk run? You betcha. In fact I look forward to it. I have the same problem at Costco. I have such a hard time turning down small free food. It's free! And feels so inconsequential! Well then, how come every time I skip the free sample containter (like when I've JUST eaten or something, or the baker ladies are scowling at me, or when I run into someone I know, RIGHT as I'm about to lift up that black lid), I feel so victorious? Hmm. Too bad caloric value doesn't determine the price of food. (Twinkies = $20/box. Celery=5 cents a bunch) I would definitely be eating more veggies. For now, maybe I should just turn left when I walk into the store. More About: Free , Turn , Sample , Free sample
Friday Weigh-In and Woo-Hoo!!
2007-09-14 15:44:00 So I've maintained this week. Whoopie! I didn't really expect or care if I lost anything. My major victory was returning to the gym. Although I only went once; the youngling has got a stomach bug (poor little guy!) and only wants to be held and cuddled. By Mommy. Twenty. Four. Seven. So I'm shooting for 2-3 times for next week. And my only goal for the week is to lose something (preferably weight). I don't care how much, even a nice little .3 would be great. And now for the WOO-HOO!!'s*Guess what! Triumphant Tuesday
2007-09-11 17:01:00 After nearly a month hiatusIt was my weights class. I was shaking the entire time. I wasn't even able to stay through the entire hour. But somehow this feels way more victorious than reaching the 130's. Probably because my entrance into the 130's happened effortlessly (pretty much), and was mostly due to circumstances outside of my control. But making the decision to go to that class this morning took everything I had. And although I'm bracing myself for my appetite to return with a vengeance; for right now, I feel FANTASTIC!! Pictures of My Food
2007-09-10 15:31:00 Don't get too excited. They're not that great! Sarah, of Living to Feel Good, did this really cool thing where she invited fellow bloggers to post picures of their food for three days. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So I though it'd be fun to try, but you may notice I didn't quite get all three days up. Here are my pictures, I'll explain below.*For three days in a row, I ate Kashi Go-Lean Crunch for breakfast, I didn't really want to take a picture of the same thing for three days. *My lunches (the pita chips and hummus and the tomato and cheese quesadilla) tend to be kinda small because I try to eat 5 or 6 small meals closer together than a big lunch interspersed with snacks. I don't really have an excuse as to why there are only two. When I'd eat I'd just think, oh I'll take the picture next time. haha. whoops.*My dinners (fettucine with tomato and peas, and the beef stroganoff) not the healthiest but Hey! Um. Did You Know You've Got Something. On. Right. There?
2007-09-09 01:47:00 Someone, somewhere, is blogging about her day at work yesterday. She'll write about how a lady came in to her store to exchange a pair of jeans for her son. The customer seemed nice enough. And she tried to be nice and helpful without busting up laughing, because the customer was obviously unaware of a huge chocolate smudge sitting there on her left cheek as well as a several little chocolate crumbs hanging off the outside of her lips. How ridiculous she looked! I can just see the blog entry: "I just tried to keep my snickering to a minumum, like when she turned around, or rumaged through her purse for the receipt. I just don't know...Should I have said something?"Yes. You should have. I was having a chocolate craving and grabbed a skinny cow ice cream sandwich on the way out to run some errands. Friday Weigh-In
2007-09-07 16:04:00 Holding steady in the 130's. I'm not 100% sure if I've gained or lost this week. I accidently ate breakfast before I weighed in -- you just can't be positive with Kashi, it's so dense! (And unfortunately I wasn't able to wake up before the little stinkers, so I'm in "stop and start" mode with my writing. Over and over and over again. Dontcha love when it takes 11 minutes to write five sentences?) Anyway, I'm still feeling some trepidation with my little vacay here in the 130's. I haven't been to the gym now in 20 days. I'm itching to get back and I'm hoping by tomorrow I'll be able to. There's just something about jumping back into a routine on a Saturday that feels more victorious than waiting until Monday.Well, I was going to leave you today with a bunch of great links, but I'm having trouble splitting my brain right now, I'm trying to watch my boys do "double kick triple whip" jumps while making sure the baby doesn't crawl out of the high chair. I Thought I Was Doing Well
2007-09-06 06:21:00 I mean, c'mon. I am twenty seven years old. I can't be THAT far out of touch with fashion...can I?Oh yes, Katie. You most definitely ARE. Looks like Cory Kennedy is giving these high-waisted, unflattering, tapered lovelies a "liberating" comeback. Oh for the love of all things holy, Cory, the MOM JEAN?Remeber the muffintop post, and how it was all about the "cut" giving everyone that little role of overflow? Well this is one of those instances where this cut will make everyone look like a humungo pear. Unless you are a 2. Then you will look like a tiny pear. If you are a 0 or negative size, they actually may begin to resemble a normal pair of jeans. I'm no fashionista (obviously); I'm just a sucker for clothes that fit well and make me feel good. Who Needs Sleep?
2007-09-06 01:04:00 Who here is stressed out?! I don't care what stage of life you're in, it seems to me that everyone is going a million miles a minute. I know I am! By the end of my multi-tasking day, I drop into bed exhausted. I envision the beautiful picture of tucking my kids into bed, reading them tons of stories, telling them stories of my childhood, singing to them and gently kissing them as they fall quickly to sleep. YEAH RIGHT! I'm holding my tongue trying not to yell "GET IN BED!" for the millioneth time, holding my eyes open as I tell a 30 second story and trying not to be cross with them. So much for the wonderful memories - I'm exhausted! Does this sound familiar? Why then do I have hard time sleeping? I'm dealing with insomnia. I wake up maybe at 3:00 a.m. and I'm up for basically the rest of the night. I do know that lack of sleep can compromise your concentration and well-being. 2007-09-05 05:52:00 Just finished the Biggest Loser's, "Did They Keep the Weight Off?" episode. One of the things that surprised me was how many of them actually now have shifted their carreer to fit their healthy lifestyle. I thought that was really cool and it got me thinking...How does your job "fit" with your priority to be healthy? OBESITY In America
2007-09-03 16:14:00 I was reading an article which was alarming about obesity.(4th Annual Report prepared by the esearch group Trust for America 's Health) I don't think any of us don't know this but it is always good to be reminded. Adult obesity rates rose in 31 states last year, 22 states experienced an increase for the second year in a row and no state had a decrease. Any of you want to take a guess at the state that topped the scales? (For the 3rd yr in a row) Mississippi. The sad thing is more than 30% according to the report, "F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing In America" The thinnest state? Colorado. What state do you think had the the highest overweight children (22.8%)? Washington, D.C. How about the lowest state with 8.5%? Utah. This report shows that overall, 25 million children are overweight. The South is a big problem, 10 of the 15 sates with the highest rates of adult obesity. Friday Weigh-In
2007-08-31 18:36:00 Well, I'm in the 130's. But it feels rather fake. There was nothing about this loss this week that had to do with eating well or exercising. Mostly it had to do with grief, stress, and illness. And while I'm glad it's a loss and not a gain, I'll just hang tight and see if it sticks before I do the happy dance. Here's a list of stuff:(How's that for a transition?)1) I swear every time I've done a post this week, I've gone back and read it and somehow missed MAJOR errors. Misspelled and misplaced words, etc. Yeesh! Apparently, I cannot be trusted to spell such words as "get" or "because." Usually I have another set of eyes read it over for such mistakes, but have obviously fallen out of that habit. 2) I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what's wrong with our profile pictures on the sidebar. I have tried many things, (different browser, new pictures, new format, resizing, etc.) Have you forgotten what we look like? We're still trying to figure it out, so we'll have th...
