I was discussing this diet with a friend of mine today, and was pretty disgusted with it.It's based on this faulty logic which says that there are "good" carbohydrates and "bad" carbohydrates. Which, in my opinion, is ridiculous. There are "bad" carbs and "worse" carbs. The complex carbohydrates do take longer to break down in your body. Therefore it takes longer for the body to actually break it down into simple glucose molecules in the blood. But if you eat too many of these in one sitting, they become just as bad as sucrose or a potatoe. If you eat enough of any type of digestible carbohydrate your body will attempt to process it faster, which in turn raises your blood sugar quicker and spikes your insulin even higher."Complex" cabohydrates only slow down the road to diabetes and heart disease. They don't prevent it, especially if you eat too much. This nutri-system idea is flawed. Seriously flawed. Actually, in my opinion it's extremely unhealthy. The other problem I have is th...

CholesterolCholesterol is one of the most mis-understood things about the body. Actually, we don't really know a whole lot about it, compared to alot of the other hormones and processes in the body.My belief is that "raised cholesterol" or cholesterol/fatty acids stuck to arteries is actually a symptom of something else, not the cause of heart disease. I believe it's a major symptom of insulin resistance and diabetes. I mean, we know insulin is highly inflammatory and very deleterious to the entire body, particularly the arteries and skin. Insulin is vital and extremely important to the body, but in very small and controlled doses. The funniest thing about the "cholesterol causes heart disease theory" I think is the fact that lots of people have low cholesterol and series heart disease at the same time. People also have very high cholesterol levels and no heart disease. In fact, high cholesterol levels are associated with longer life span in older people. Low cholesterol is also as...

The American Diabetes Association The A merican Diabetes Association is a joke. Really. I'm reading through the site, and paying particular attention to the nutrition section.http://www.diabetes.org/nutrition -and-recipes/nutrition/healthyfoodchoices .jspThis is comical. Their first bullet point suggests we should eat lots of "healthy" fruits and vegetables. I'll talk about fruit first. What is fruit full of? SUGAR. Sure it's got some fiber in it which can slow the digestion of carbohydrates, but it doesn't really prevent an insulin spike. It can lower the spike a little bit, but you're still spiking your insulin. Fruit, as someone said once, is nothing more than nature's candy. The vitamins it does have are far outweighed by the negative consequences of the sugar content, particularly for citrus fruits and things like bananas.Vegetables should be avoided for different reasons. Obviously the starchy ones are self explanatory. Potatoes convert to blood glucose FASTER than straight t...

The Atkins Diet So I'm watching FitTV right now, and a show with an "Atkins doctor" is on. It's disgusting to watch because of the misinformation it gives out. She's talking about including lots of the "healthy" mono-unsaturated fat and very little saturated. Very wrong there. I just don't understand, once you study the chemistry of fatty acids, how people still think the unsaturated fats are healthier than saturated.Saturated fatty acids burn clean and do not produce free radicals in the body. Saturated fatty acids can not oxidize in the blood stream, mono and poly-unsaturated fats DO oxidize. This is the basis of free radical damage. Well that, and insulin damage.People should be eating lots of lard, butter, tallow, eggs, coconut oil and the like. Look at heart disease. Heart disease did not exist before 1900 in the medical books. Those people ate TONS of saturated fats. Wonder why this is?Personally I get about 95 grams of saturated fat a day, all told. Does that make you cring...

The Real Diabetic Diet Now that I've found out I was at stage one of Type II Diabetes, I've been doing lots and lots of research on what to do to reverse this. "Reactive Hypoglycemia" or "insulin resistance" as it's usually called has been destroying me for 3-4 years now, without me actually realizing what it was.2-3 hours after I'd eat, I'd feel seriously anxious and like I was going to pass out dead where I stood if I didn't eat something.I've come to the conclusion, like the NY Times article "What if it was all a big fat lie", that America has been misinformed and mislead for the last 30 years or so. Lots and lots of people are on "low-fat, low calorie" diets and yet obesity and Type II Diabetes are at record levels. The ironic thing about the ADA and all these "health" organizations is that they all have some form of vested interest in the drug companies. I'm not siding with Kevin Trudeau necessarily. Kevin Trudeau is a fraud and has been scamming people for years now. How...

Male Pattern Baldness and Insulin Resistance I believe that the testosterone/DHT theory is true. However, it is only part of the picture. I believe that high levels of insulin, and even worse insulin resistance are the core cause of this conversion locally in the scalp.High levels of insulin significantly lower if not totally cut off two other hormones. Glucagon and Sex Hormone Binding Globulin. Glucagon is basically insulin's adversary, also produced in the same part of the pancreas. Glucagon removes artherosclerotic plaques, lowers triglycerides and improves overall blood flow.SHBG is the more important thing relating to hair loss though. Without it, testoterone is "free", free to be converted into DHT or be used by the body for its other important uses. When SHBG is not in the blood stream in the quantities the body normally would require, I am of the opinion that alot of this excess free testosterone is then converted in the scalp to DHT. It has been shown that BOTH free T and D...
