Lead Paint Recall - Kids II Baby Einstein Discover Play Color Blocks
2007-10-06 05:37:00 Following our previous five star review of the Kids II Baby Einstein Discover Play Color Blocks, the manufacturer has announced a product recall. Kids II is voluntarily recalling our Baby Einstein Discover & Play Color Blocks in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission because our expanded testing detected lead traces that are higher than the Federal limit. The recall only applies to the Blue block included with products that contain certain date codes, which can be found on the sewn in labels attached to the Green block. More and more parents are placing their children into childcare, and with the increasing mortgage and rental costs, it is only something that we see will continue. An Australian insurance company is offering an insurance policy that will cover the cost of full or part-time childcare fees if your child is sick and cannot attend. The policy will cover a child if they are sick for more than three consecutive days of childcare. The policy costs between 50 and 75 US dollars per year. The policy, Kids Cover is offered by the Altiora Insurance Brokers. As the cost of childcare is increasingeach year, this may be of help to parents. However, as it seems that childcare is to blame for many of the illnesses, perhaps the childcare centers themselves should not be charging us on days when your child is ill. The quality of the components is noticably higher than other cars seats. NEW YORK (Reuters) - Retailer Toys “R” Us said on Wednesday that it is expanding its efforts to inform shoppers of the latest toy recalls after a slew of Chinese-made toys were recalled this summer due to unsafe levels of lead paint. The retailer said it has launched a toy safety Web site that includes information about its safety procedures and specific recall information. Toys “R” Us also said it is introducing an e-mail notification system for recalls and adding bilingual recall notices. Toys “R” Us is owned by a consortium that includes Bain Capital Partners LLC, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co and Vornado Realty Trust. We received a few emails regarding another set of blocks we should look at, a set that was claimed to be even better. The Kids II Baby Einstein Discover & Play Color Blocks is a set of 4 soft and squeezable 3 1/2-inch square blocks. Each of the blocks features a different color, with the names of the colors embroidered on the appropriately colored block. Each of the blocks also include different patterns and images, and a peek-a-boo flap hides a baby-safe mirror on the yellow block. One of the first things you notice is how soft the blocks are. They feel softer to the touch than the dwellbaby blocks. The edges can be easily picked up by a baby, but it would have been nice to see a more defined edge for a baby to grab. The Inchworm is make from a high-quality velour fabric, and each segment has different textures and fabrics. The worm includes rattles, squeaks, crinkles, and jingles from the various segments of the worm. The underside of the worm includes a measuring markings along its 24 inch length. When the worm is hugged, it plays “If You’re Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands”. It can sometimes be hard to get the song to play if you do not squeeze it just right, but it is not something that we would fault.
