Stages of Consciousness
2008-03-05 15:11:00
According to the book Power vs. Force, there are several different the levels of consciousness among human beings.  Author David R. Hawkins categorizes them as: shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, pride, courage, neutrality, willingness, acceptance, reason, love, joy, peace, enlightenment.  [You can read an nice re-cap of these stages on Steve Pavlina’s blog in his article Levels of Consciousness ]. Although Mr. Hawkins has an excellent premise, I think we can more easily see 4 broader stages throughout humanity: deeply unconscious, generally unconscious, burgeoning on consciousness and enlightened souls.  One of my missions with We The Change (and also with the new site I recently helped launch, Worldwide Tipping Point) is to help the generally unconscious crowd reach the next level of burgeoning awareness.  In my opinion, having this happen on a global scale is the key to initiating fundamental changes our culture requires.  Here is why: Generally...

5 Ways To Become A ‘Giver’ Now!
2008-03-04 14:16:00
A few weeks ago I was eating lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Manhattan.  Seated next to me were two very well-dressed men in their late 50’s/early 60’s who were having a conversation about their recent retirements.  Given that seating in New York restaurants is ridiculously tight and I was dining alone, I heard most of their talk. One of them asked the other “so what are you going to do now”?  The other sat for a moment contemplating, then looked up and said questioningly: “Give back”?  They both hooted in laughter at the response, and began perfunctorily yapping about the stock market, recent travels, and other typical conversation. The dialogue bothered me ever since hearing it.  It is so common in our society for people to work their whole lives with the primary goals of making money and becoming “successful”, and then retiring to a life of leisure where they can potentially “give something back”. I am not saying there is something wro...
What Oprah Winfrey ‘Gets’ That Most Celebrities Do Not
2008-02-29 14:06:00
As many of you know, I am a big fan of writer Eckhart Tolle.  I have talked about his first book The Power of Now extensively, and his second book A New Earth:  Awakening To Your Life’s Purpose has exploded, topping the best-seller list on Amazon.com and becoming the fastest-selling pick ever at Barnes & Noble! This feat has been helped largely by the endorsement of media giant Oprah Winfrey who suggested the novel to her famous book club a few months ago.  But Oprah did not stop there, and starting next Monday she and Mr. Tolle will be conducting the first of 10 weekly webcasts where they discuss major points in A New Earth for free to the general public. Given the content of the book and the strength of Oprah’s celebrity, this is almost a radical occurrence in our society.  Here is why:  What A New Earth Is All About First let me give you a brief synopsis of A New Earth as summed up on its back cover: “Tolle describes how attachment to our ego create...

A Podcast With Gaia and a Favor For Me (please read on)…
2008-02-27 14:27:00
If you are a regular reader of this website, you know I named it “we the change” because I believe we are living during a time when a wonderful shift occurs in our culture.  Profound changes are taking place, and people all over the world are banding together to put a definitive end to war, genocide and planetary deterioration. Sometimes this reality scares me (as it does many people) but my fear quickly turns to hope as I realize there is a whole movement of people, organizations, websites, etc. that are working diligently to create a more sustainable and peaceful future for all of us. The emergence of the internet is playing a huge role in this shift in awareness, and today’s post provides a few excellent examples of how the ‘world wide web’ is becoming the world wide “lets band together and save ourselves”: Worldwide Tipping Point Launches (And a Favor From YOU)! You will notice on the top left of We The Change a new widget (image), which says Worldwide...

Kill Your Ego- Recognize The True You
2008-02-26 14:51:00
Last week while on vacation, I took on a great challenge.  No, I did not jump out of an airplane or swim with sharks.  I did something much more difficult—I committed myself to unplugging from all work related matters completely, and sought to be “present” or “in the now” as much as possible. This task is much harder then it seems, and for the first few days I found myself ensconced in the usual Todd Goldfarb ways of thinking.  I was worrying about my clients, anxious about this blog, stressed that I was doing nothing to move myself forward.  Eventually I was able to diffuse these thought patterns using one thing: my awareness.  This is a very powerful practice, and one takes a lot of work and patience.  However, if you are really interested in personal growth and want to make transcending changes in your life, constantly being attentive of your thoughts is one of the most revealing exercises you can undertake.  How The Ego Operates You, me and everyone else h...

Stop Being a Doormat! Lessons From An Expert (Podcast)
2008-02-20 16:21:00
Do you want to switch careers but just don’t know how? Do you wish for a better life, but are too scared to take a risk? Are you stuck, and do you procrastinate? If any of these sentiments ring true for you, then listen to today’s podcast. I interview one of the most impressive women I have met in some time: Daylle Deanna Schwartz. Once a typical school teacher, Daylle accepted a challenge from her students to create a rap record. She hates stereotypes, and it bothered her when the kids told her that a white woman could never be a successful rapper. So she set out to prove them wrong, and taught herself the skill. In no time she became known as the “rappin teach”, and her life would be changed forever: Daylle Deanna Schwartz InterviewDaylle’s story is one of true inspiration, and she is an excellent example of how anything is possible once you have belief and passion. The interview takes you through her incredible ride starting a record label, becoming a be...

5 Ways To Make Valentine’s Day Last All Year Long!
2008-02-14 15:20:00
Have you ever stopped and noticed the full spectrum of life events symbolized in the greeting card aisle? Birthdays, deaths, baby announcements, mourning, get well, graduation, weddings, recover soon, feel better, here’s some money, and on and on… This aisle is like a microcosm of the complete range of things that happen to us as human beings! And so many of us have been searching for the right semblence of words (as expressed by Hallmark) to expose our most worthy emotion -LOVE- to those we care about most! Yes, this is the day where we take someone special to someplace special and give them something special.  Sometimes I think Valentine’s Day is a limiting holiday, but I guess if everyday were this “special” we wouldn’t have a very healthy perspective on things. With this said, here are 5 easy recommendations for keeping the Valentine’s Day spirit alive, at least to some degree, during the ensuing 364 days: 1. Make V-day a quarterly event OK, so it’s not r...
