Garbage Management
2007-10-15 06:49:00
Garbage Management is disposal of/getting rid of waste materials or domestic refuses. The word garbage is generally used to indicate solid household wastes which are comprised of a few types of unwanted material produced through day-to-day household activities. Such garbage is also called residential waste. A similar type of garbage is also produced by commercial sources such as hotels and restaurants, shops, offices and other business outlets, which is referred to as commercial waste. The third type of waste is industrial waste, the nature of which is determined by the type of industry concerned. In cities, residential and commercial wastes are disposed of by the city's municipal administration, but industrial waste is discharged into water bodies or dumped near the site, where the industry is located. Although disposal of industrial waste is to be made in a manner that does not constitute a threat to environment, it is frequently not practised with sufficient stringency...

Pressure Cooker
2007-10-15 04:17:00
We often hear some horror story from some old people about how some years ago, a pressure cooker exploded all over the kitchen when left on the stove unattended and fortunately nobody got hurt, but it was a big mess to clean up and it is always dangerous.,etc. What they will not tellwill be that the pressure cooker performed exactly the way it was designed. When too much pressure built up in the pot, the safety valve allowed the steam and some food to escape through a small hole, instead of the lid flying off and injuring someone. When used properly, pressure cookers are not dangerous. Safety Precautions:- Pressure cookers are safe when used according to directions. That includes following safety precautions. Four important safety rules are: 1. Do not cook the following foods in a pressure cooker because they tend to foam and sputter, which may block the pressure release mechanism, like applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal or other cereals, split peas, ...

Nobel Prize for Peace 2007- Al Gore and U.N. Panel Share for Climate Work
2007-10-13 03:20:00
Former Vice President of the United Nations, Mr. Al Gore , who emerged from his loss in the muddled 2000 presidential elections to devote himself to his passion as an environmental crusader, was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, sharing it with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations network of scientists. The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised both “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change.” The prize is a vindication for Mr. Gore, whose frightening, cautionary film about the consequences of climate change, “An Inconvenient Truth,” won the 2007 Academy Award for best documentary, even as conservatives in the United States denounced it as alarmist and exaggerated. Mr. Gore said in a brief appearance on Friday in Palo Alto, Calif., standing with his wife, Tipper, and four members of the United Nations climate panel, “I will accept this award on behalf of all the people that hav...

Travel across different time Zones - Jet Lag
2007-10-02 20:29:00
When we have to travel, say, from India to USA or from USA to India, we require one day per one-hour time zone crossed to regain normal rhythm and energy levels. Depending on the time difference we will require days to recover from jetlag- the disturbance in our sleep. Jet lag leads to fatigue, dehydration and disorientation, accompanied by a lack of concentration and motivation, especially for activities that require cognitive skills such as reading or negotiating a business deal. Crossing time zones is the major cause of jet lag though not the only cause. The more time our body takes to adjust to changes in our sleep-wake cycle, the more we are affected. A few things that cause jet lag, can make our flight miserable. Being stressed, nervous or hung over during the flight are some of them. Also taking coffee, tea and alcoholic drinks in-flight will affect our sleep. Remaining glued to our seat for hours, airline food and stale cabin air will add to the problem. ...

TYPES OF FRIENDS
2007-09-19 13:23:00
There are different types of Friends , such as, Room- mates, Class-mates, Companions, Neighbours, Country to country friends, Travel friends, Pen-pals, Internet-friends, Comrades, Colleagues, Romantic Friends, Soul Mates, Lovers, Platonic Life Partners, Friends with Benefits ,Intimate Friends, Blood-related Friends, Friends of the same gender, and Inter-gender Friends, etc. While the above list of different types of friends is not exhaustive, there are some more types of friends as described below. All true-lovers are friends (atleast until their love ends up with their wedding, in some cases), but all friends need not be lovers, irrespective of their gender; and of course, love is a type of friendship with a different dimension. In the present Modern Culture, the role of gender in Friendship and its intensity requires reconsideration of our understanding of "Friendship". There is no legal definition or binding for Friendship, as in marriage. A real and true friendship may ...

INDIAN ODI CRICKET CAPTAIN DHONI
2007-09-18 15:07:00
Mahendra Singh Dhoni led India to a famous win through a 'bowl out' against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup, but Dhoni does not like to see cricket matches ending in such a fashion and he feels that it should always be decided on the field. However Dhoni is happy and proud of his team for snatching a thrilling 3-0 win by 'bowl out' in their inaugural 20- 20 World Cup match, which ended in a tie. It was only the second instance when a cricket match has been decided in a 'bowl out', which requires five players from each side aiming the stumps and the number of hits decides the winner; like penalty kicks /goals, deciding the winner in case of a tie, in foot-ball and hockey, ‘bowl out’s decide the winner, in 20-20 Cricket .Dhoni showed some smart cricketing brain in preferring three slow bowlers, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa for the 'bowl out' and they all hit the stumps. Dhoni recollects the efforts of the bowlers who had vigorous prac...

CHEESE- Health and Nutrition
2007-09-16 21:05:00
Cheese supplies a great deal of calcium, protein, and phosphorus. Nutrition ally, cheese is essentially concentrated milk.Cheese potentially shares milk's nutritional disadvantages as well. Cheese is the number one source of saturated fat. (LDL CHOLESTEROL,called Bad Cholesterol) .Whether cheese's highly saturated fat actually leads to an increased risk of heart disease is called into question when considering France and Greece, which lead the world in cheese eating ,where, relatively low rates of heart disease persist. This seeming discrepancy is called the French Paradox; the higher rates of consumption of red wine in these countries is often invoked as at least a partial explanation. Some studies claim to show that cheeses including Cheddar, Mozzarella, Swiss and American can help to prevent tooth decay. Several mechanisms for this protection have been proposed. The calcium, protein, and phosphorus in cheese may act to protect tooth enamel .Cheese increases saliva flow, washing aw...

Medical vs. surgical treatment of coronary artery disease
2007-09-15 09:33:00
Although coronary artery bypass surgery is clearly effective in relieving angina pectoris, research evidence that it prolongs life has been inconsistent. Bypass surgery has been shown to improve survival in patients who have left main coronary artery disease or triple-vessel disease with impaired ventricular function, but whether other patient groups live longer after this surgery is not clear. Conservative interpretations of the results of various trials have led some authorities to conclude that many bypass procedures performed are avoidable..Three factors were associated with a significant survival benefit following surgery, the extent of coronary disease, the patient's overall medical risk and the year of the operation. Patients with more extensive coronary obstruction treated surgically had the greatest improvement in survival. Patients with a poor prognosis because of factors other than the extent of coronary obstruction, older age, severe angina, had a greater absolute impro...

Family History Has Strong Effect on Cardiac Risk
2007-09-13 20:42:00
The 14 percent of families that have a history of coronary heart disease account for 72 percent of all premature deaths from heart disease. Also, 48 percent of major coronary events such as heart attacks occur in those families. A brother or sister of someone who has a heart attack or other coronary event has twice the normal risk of having such an event. We can go through the closest relatives of coronary disease patients and screen them.Screening those close relatives and taking steps against risk factors such as high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes and high blood pressure could prevent more than 80 percent of the early heart attacks that occur each year. The siblings and children of coronary heart disease patients may be screened for Coronary Heart Diseases, and work to bring those factors under control. In theory, working physicians are aware of the importance of family history in predicting coronary risk. And they know that they should put that information to use with the close r...

Bigger Waist, Bigger Colon Cancer Risk
2007-09-13 20:20:00
This finding, from an analysis of 30 long-term studies of colon cancer, reinforces the link between obesity and colon cancer in men and, to a lesser extent, in womenObesity, the study shows, boosts the risk of rectal cancer in men but not in women.Perhaps most importantly, the study suggests that belly fat is more relevant to colon cancer risk than fat in other places. For every 4 inches gained around the waist, the risk of colon cancer goes up 33% in men and 16% in women."Abdominal obesity was more strongly related to increased colon cancer risk than was overall obesity,"It's not clear why obesity is more likely to cause colon and rectal cancer in men than in women. Then why do they say, “women are the weaker vessels”?

INDIAN NATIONAL INTEGRATION - UNITY IN DIVERSITY
2007-09-02 11:42:00
India is known for what is called "Unity in Diversity ". Whether Indian s are "united" or not they are losing their unity in "diversity" as in a diverse culture. Two of the major reasons are Inter-caste and inter religion marriages and influence of Western Culture. There are increasingly more number of people these days who wish to call themselves "Indians" rather than branding them by their castes or sub-castes, which is a good sign of National Integration . Though Indians may talk about equality of castes and sects, it is very difficult to change and individual identity will be preserved. A Muslim is supposed to do "namas" four times a day. A Christian is supposed to attend prayers in a church at least every Sunday if not possible to attend daily. A Brahmin is supposed to do “Sandhya vandhanam” 3 times a day. Likewise for each religion there is a duty for performing. The procedures and methods of the above rituals also vary from one community to the other in th...

CAREER CHANGE – PLANNING AND PREPARATION
2007-08-30 04:19:00
We must have a well-developed plan for making our career change, and we should not rush into a career change until we think it out and develop a strategy. We must put in a great deal of time and effort in making the switch from one career to another, and we should not get discouraged at the pace or our progress, as changing careers takes time. We must not rush into a new career field because we are dissatisfied or disillusioned with our current job, boss, company, or career field. We must take sufficient time to examine the activities that we like and dislike, with more focus on our likes and on new careers that center around our likes and passions. We must make a leverage of some of our current skills and experiences to our new career by taking advantage of our transferable skills. We need not limit ourselves to similar careers or jobs when making a career change, but we must look for careers that take advantage of our skills and interests. We must consider the po...

FATHER AND SON- STRENGTHENING THE RELATIONSHIP
2007-08-29 14:57:00
There is a special bond between a father and a son. It may be because the son will carry over his father's name or a father has someone to share his hobbies with. But if father- son relationship is not nourished, it will weaken and eventually disappear, especially during teen- ages. Sharing the hobbies of the father with his son is a great way to connect and strengthen father- son relationship. The father must take time to teach his son and involve him in his hobby. Spending time together on a hobby will help to build a stronger relationship between the father and the son. It will also give an area to connect in during those trying teen ages. Participating in a hobby that both of them love, gives a common ground and a reason to spend time together. Suppose, if the father loves to ride bike and goes out with his friends for spending week ends, he may join his son with him and the father and the son may go riding together. This will make the son feel ...
