For a quick background, 70 year old Estrada had been convicted by a special anti-corruption court due to his plundering tens of millions of dollars in tax kickbacks and bribes. He had been elected in 1998 with the largest majority in Philippine presidential history but ousted three years later when Arroyo succeeded him. 2007-09-12 11:33:00 NEWS RELEASE JAN2007POEA sees more OFWs deployed in 2007 The Philippine Overseas Administration sees a further increase in total deployment of overseas Filipino workers 2007 with the implementation of several agreements signed between the Philippines and other countries of destination. Administrator Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said the hiring agreements signed with Taiwan, Spain, South Korea and Libya are expected to further boost deployment of OFWs next year despite the projected slowdown of deployment of household workers. The Philippines has renewed the memorandum of understanding on the Special Hiring Program for Taiwan during the first Philippines- Taiwan Joint Labor Conference. Taiwan will employ Filipino factory workers through the POEA on a government-to- government basis.
