Mood Swings during Pregnancy - Why do we have them?
2008-04-02 17:52:00
I couldn't stop thinking about this topic. Not because I am pregnant, it is because I am surrounded by my pregnant friends. It is pregnancy time in our neighbourhood. Almost all of my friends are pregnant and each one acts differently. The one and only topic that we discuss when we all meet is about pregnancy. I have been observing most of them from their day one of pregnancy and to my surprise I see the fun one becoming dull and the shy one becoming overwhelmed. Suddenly everyone reads about pregnancy symptoms, baby growth and want to be the expert in this field. Each one talks as though they have a PhD in this department and they are not to be blamed. Their mood swings. There are people who does things deliberately during their pregnancy and puts the blame on their mood swings. But, 99% of the mood swings are real and genuine. Why is there a mood swing all of a sudden? What is its cause? Most of us know it is hormonal imbalance. For those who are new to this, I went through some ...

The Art of Cooking!
2008-03-31 17:28:00
Cooking is not a duty. It is an art. Those who have understood this have always cooked scrumptious food. I used to work for a software company and cooking was a duty for me. I have always whined about cooking and never was happy to cook. Now that I quit my job, I have no other option than to cook. Initially, I was lazy and always complaining.Time went on and nothing changed. I had to cook! Finally, I decided to make cooking a delight. I tried out various recipes and finally found that cooking is an art! Most of my friend's moms are great cook. They cook both breakfast and lunch in less than 45mts. I used to wonder how they do it. When I asked about this to one of my friend's mother, she said without any hesitation,"I love to cook and Challenge myself daily to cook a dish which is more delicious than what I cooked yesterday!". Wow! I never thought people take part in these kind of challenges. She also gave me few tips which I will be sharing with you. Do you know you can talk to your...

Does our attitude affect our way of living?
2008-03-24 15:56:00
As I was browsing, I came across this article. We all have a lot of questions about our health and how we can be more healthier. Just read this article and you will find out that 'YOU' are the reason for your body's wellbeing. The below is an article by Chris Woolston from http://healthresources.caremark.com Does my outlook on my health really matter?Curious about your health and your future? You can put yourself through a battery of medical tests, fill out stacks of questionnaires, and see every specialist in town. But for a simple and surprisingly reliable prediction, just ask yourself a simple question: How healthy do you feel? When it comes to health, your opinion definitely matters. That's what Duke University found when they asked almost 3,000 heart patients to classify their health as poor, fair, good, or very good. As reported in the journal Medical Care, those who chose "very good" were about 70 percent less likely to die within three years than those who answered "good...

How to be happy always - Can we?
2008-03-07 19:40:00
Ofcourse we can. It all depends on our attitude. I came across this article by Alan Michael Ross about how to be happy and thought it would be a great idea to share it with you all. Read it, practice it and be happy....always! When you ask someone, ?What is the purpose of life??, most people, after much umming and ahhing, say something like, ?to be happy?. We all have the desire to be happy. ?Happy ? is some conglomeration of feeling good ? light, free, strong, flowing ? and not feeling bad ? nothing to worry about, no fears and concerns. This is what drives us. If you observe yourself for a day you?ll see that in every situation we move away from situations where we don?t feel good and towards that which we think will have us feel good. Right? But what if the place we are looking for happiness is the wrong place? Our main thought, even if we are not aware of it, is that happiness is out there and over there. A misconception that things ?out there? MAKE us happy and so, GIVE u...

Overcome emotions during pregnancy
2008-01-29 19:17:00
One of the most random things to deal with for expectant mums, is the roller coaster ride of emotions during pregnancy. These emotions are sometimes very difficult to control and usually come at us with no notice, so one minute we may be fine and relaxed, the next we might have turned into a wailing banshee.Obviously this can be a confusing time, not just for us but our loved ones too. Our partners maybe looking forward to spending some time with their loving wives, only to be greeted by a tired and irritable women in her place. This is why it is worth taking some time to understand the different emotions during pregnancy and why it's important to stay strong. Clearly having some form of expectations is better than not being prepared for certain changes.Probably the best way to deal with changing emotions during pregnancy is to keep an open, honest and constant dialogue with those around you. Our family is probably as confused or apprehensive as we are, try to take the time and des...

Understanding Teen Depression
2007-10-10 16:24:00
Depression is on the rise among our youth. Learn about the risk factors and signs of teen depression, and how you can help. With the growth of depression among teenagers, we have a lot to do.The first step will be understanding why our teen children are facing depression. The below article written by Susan Carney will help us reach our teens more easily.Who is at risk for depression? Depression can happen to anyone, but there are certain risk factors that should be recognized. These include attention problems, learning problems, conduct disorders, and a family history of depression. In addition, significant stressors, like a recent or sudden loss, family problems (especially divorce or death in the family), or financial problems make a teen more vulnerable. Those students who have been abused, are already involved in drug or alcohol use, or have experienced the suicide of a close friend or relative are of particular risk.Even relatively ?minor? problems, such as conflicts with parents...

How can I deal with anger? (From a teenager perspective)
2007-10-08 15:59:00
Below is a very interesting and informative article that I came across in http://www.kidshealth.org/ .This article helps every teen to understand their transformation in a better way. Also very useful for parents to handle their wild teen children. This is quite a big article and I did'nt want to give it in parts. Read and get enlightened!Your mom just told you there's no way she's letting you out of the house until you clean your room. What starts out as mild annoyance (now you?ll be late for Chrissy?s party) turns into red-hot anger as you pick up the magazines and dishes from your floor. How dare she? You're not a child! Before you know it, you've kicked a big dent in your closet door, broken a dish, and yelled at your sister. Now you're grounded for the whole weekend ? plus, you feel terrible about the way you acted. So why did you fly off the handle so quickly? And why are there days when you feel like you just wake up angry? Some of it may be the changes your body's going...

Managing Strong Emotions
2007-10-03 16:53:00
Strong emotions are both a cause of, and a result of conflict. People in conflict may have a variety of strong, and often negative emotions--anger, distrust, disappointment, frustration, confusion, worry, or fear. These emotions often mask the substantive issues in dispute. However, the emotions, too, are real and must be dealt with. Techniques for managing emotions include the following. (Many of these are taken from Fisher, Ury, and Patton, 1991, while others come from our own experience.)Below are the 8 tips that I came across for managing emotions. They are taken from Conflict Research Consortium, University of Colorado, USA1) Recognize and understand your own emotions as well as your opponents'. For instance, is your opponent angry, or just excited? Are you slightly worried, or profoundly afraid? 2) Determine the source of the feelings. Are your (or your opponent's) emotional responses to one issue being caused by your (or their) response to another issue? Is your (or their) ...

Learning to Manage Emotions Could Reduce depression among teens!
2007-10-02 16:39:00
Hi Y'all. Hope having fun. I came across this article in Internet and was really shocked. Most our teen friends are facing this problem and we ought to help them. This is just an heads up. Following this I will post few more articles on managing emotions.Up to one quarter of all teens will have an episode of depression, and many ?act out? and become engaged in risky or antisocial behaviors. Our study examined the role emotions, and managing those emotions, plays in such behavior during the adolescent years. We took a group of 150 seventh- and tenth-grade students from New Jersey schools and followed their emotional ups and downs for one week. We gave the students watches that beeped seven times a day, catching them at school, at home, and with their friends, and asked them to record what they werefeeling and doing each time the watch beeped. Later, we examined how the students felt and what they did when they felt sad, nervous, or angry, such as when they got into fights with friend...

Mental Health and Nutrients
2007-09-26 14:46:00
Hi people, hope you are all doing good. When I was browsing the net for information about nutrients I came across this article.Thought I could share with you. This one is by Mehjabeen Poonawala- Ph.D. Research Scholar (Foods and Nutrition). Every one of us humans innate biomedical factors that influence health functions, since every person has a different combination of characteristics from either one of there parents or ancestors they adapt to different types of psychological behaviors and nutrient needs. Therefore some of us are genetically suited for vegetarian-based diets and others are not. Some get satisfied with nutritional needs by diet alone and others require nutrition supplements to overcome genetic aberration. When genetics differ from body to body in the process of food then we can ponder that some of us have an overload of nutrients than the others. Some of us have very low levels of such nutrients causing at most times the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) to achieve not ...

On Being Psychic - Clairvoyance
2007-09-20 16:09:00
Clairvoyance ".....And far though we may now be from those grand powers, they will , non the less certainly be ours one day. Yet how different a place will this world will be when humanity as a whole possesses the higher Clairvoyance !" - C.W. Leadbeater Clairvoyance is the ability to percieve distant events that are seemingly hidden and inknown. Also, to be able to regress or advance in time and see future and past events, that are not visable to the human eye or mind. The most remarkable feature of clairvoyance is the ability to go beyond the conventional time and space barrier; catching glimpses of current happenings at a distance, visualizing events that have already occurred, and seeing things that have not already happened. There are three states of clairvoyance. They are:(1) Spontaneous Clairvoyance refers to seeing an event that is happening at a distance while it is actually going on, far beyond our normal vision, (2) Postcognition refers to clairvoyance ...

Energy Exercises
2007-09-18 16:09:00
These exercises are meant to increase energy flow throughout the body. They are mostly stretches for the acupuncture meridians and the spine. As this set of exercises is easy and doesn't take much time to do, it's ideal to start the day with. If you're not used to doing exercise in the morning, you might find it wakes you up better than a cup of coffee. It makes you feel clearer and calmer and better able to face challenges. For all exercises: keep your body as relaxed as possible and breath from your belly. Do them for the left and the right side of the body.Flexibility procedure for the feetThis exercise makes your muscles relaxed and supple, as several acupuncture points that have this effect are stimulated. As the rest of the exercises go more smoothly when the muscles are in better condition, this is the perfect one to start with.Do this while sitting on something low, a bed e.g.1. Put the lower part of your left leg on top of the other knee. Hold it with your left hand by put...

What is Energy?
2007-09-17 16:09:00
The word "energy" on this site is a translation of the Eastern words Chi (from Chinese), Ki (Japanese) or Prana (Indian). It is related, but not precisely the same thing as the scientific concept of energy. The word as used in this context, is something that essentially should be felt.Whereas science emphasizes objective measurement and bypasses personal observation as much as possible, this is not my starting point. I want to feel and observe things myself. Thus the power to perceive and heal stays in my own hands. This is what the concept "energy" for me is all about. This does not imply that scientific measurement of energy isn't possible, though. When you place your attention somewhere in your body, you can feel that it's not just your perception that is focused there. Something else is happening. Energy is displaced to that area. It is possible to measure this: the temperature of the spot you focus your attention on will rise. The Chinese say that "Chi follows Yi," where "Yi" ...
Buddhist Meditation - Part II
2007-09-12 17:18:00
He who has mastered his own mind is indeed master of the Three Worlds. In the first place he is without fear. Fear arises because we associate mind and body (nama-rupa) with "self"; consequently any harm to either is considered to be harm done to oneself. But he who has broken down this illusion by realizing that the five khandha process is merely the manifestation of cause and effect, does not fear death or misfortune. He remains equable alike in success and failure, unaffected by praise or blame. The only thing he fears is demeritorious action, because he knows that no thing or person in the world can harm him except himself, and as his detachment increases, he becomes less and less liable to demeritorious deeds.Unwholesome action comes of an unwholesome mind, and as the mind becomes purified, healed of its disorders, bad kamma ceases to accumulate. He comes to have a horror of wrong action and to take greater and greater delight in those deeds that are rooted in alobha, adosa, and...

Buddhist Meditation - Part I
2007-09-12 17:12:00
The mental exercise known as meditation is found in all religious systems. Prayer is a form of discursive meditation, and in Hinduism the reciting of slokas and mantras is employed to tranquilize the mind to a state of receptivity. In most of these systems the goal is identified with the particular psychic results that ensue, sometimes very quickly; and the visions that come in the semi-trance state, or the sounds that are heard, are considered to be the end-result of the exercise. This is not the case in the forms of meditation practiced in Buddhism. There is still comparatively little known about the mind, its functions and its powers, and it is difficult for most people to distinguish between self-hypnosis, the development of mediumistic states, and the real process of mental clarification and direct perception which is the object of Buddhist mental concentration. The fact that mystics of every religion have induced on themselves states wherein they see visions and hear voices tha...

Meditation during Pregnancy
2007-09-11 16:17:00
During pregnancy, relaxation and meditation are just as important to your health as proper nutrition and exercise. Why is it important to relax during pregnancy? Recent studies suggest that excessive stress, whether physical or emotional, can cause the body to produce hormones that may increase the likelihood of miscarriage or even bring on pre-term labor. The emotional effects of too much stress may also exacerbate mood swings, and increase depressive episodes and feelings of anxiety. The Fetal and Neonatal Stress Research Group has found that stress and anxiety can negatively impact the fetus and may have long-term effects, including hyperactivity. It?s important that you do everything possible during your pregnancy to adjust your lifestyle and accommodate your need to relax. Remember-- all the stress you feel is stress that your unborn baby will feel too! That?s why, when combined with exercise and a healthy diet, a routine regimen of relaxation and meditation will result in a h...

Emotional Intelligence
2007-09-10 16:13:00
Emotional Intelligence (EI), often measured as an Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ), describes an ability, capacity, or skill to perceive, assess, and manage the emotions of one's self, of others, and of groups. Emotional intelligence tests are very effective tools that can help people demonstrate how aware they are of their own weaknesses and character traits.Although most people claim to be knowledgeable about all aspects of their lives, they are often clueless as to their emotional intelligence. Additionally, it is easy to point out the character flaws and weaknesses in other people but people generally fail to look deep inside themselves to find the flaws within. It is so important for people to have and to be aware of their emotional intelligence but it is very rare to find someone who actually is.Emotional intelligence in conflict situations can help people deal with struggles and difficult situations in life but often people lack the insight to see inside themselves. An e...

The Effects Of Negative Emotion On Memory
2007-09-07 15:33:00
While I was browsing I came across this article in 'The Medical News Today' and was really surprised. The article talks about how negative emotions influence and affect the brain. Its true. How many of us remember Sept 11Th incident or Diana's death and it goes on.Its a fact that our brain (indirectly our mind) stores and retains the unpleasant and most heartbreaking news and it stays in our subconscious and always plays a role mostly indirectly in the decision we make. They influence our life. This article is scientific but of course science and mind are related. In Current Directions in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, Boston College psychologist, Elizabeth Kensinger and colleagues, explain when emotion is likely to reduce our memory inconsistencies. Her research shows that whether an event is pleasurable or aversive seems to be a critical determinant of the accuracy with which the event is remembered, with negative events being remembe...

Meditation and Brain Rot
2007-09-06 15:35:00
This is an article which I came across and felt that it is interesting. It is by Amrito MD. RECENT RESEARCH HAS NOW ESTABLISHED that thinking too much can rot the brain. What they have yet to discover is that meditation is the key to the "off" button. The Economist puts it perfectly: "Just as hard labor leaves marks on the hands, hard thinking leaves marks on the brain." And medical research has known for some time that the brain is a malleable organ: the brains of sportsmen look different from computer users. In the 1960's, research at University of California at Berkeley showed that rats brought up in a stimulating environment had denser, more complex brains than those in boring environments. Even old rats put in a more interesting cage show the same changes in their brains, with more synaptic connections between the cells supporting the old adage of "use it or lose it." Not only do the brain cells increase, but the blood supply which brings the needed energy sources increase to...

8 Tips To Recall Your Astral Projection Experiences
2007-08-29 15:39:00
You may have had wonderful experiences during your Astral travels, but if you are not able to get those memories back into the physical world, you have lost some valuable information! Unless Astral Projection recall is sharpened, it will seem like it never happened even if it did. This is the most prevalent cause of apparent OBE failure.OBE experiences can be breathtakingly vivid, but memories of them, like dream memories, have the annoying habit of disappearing unless precautions are taken. An essential ingredient of successful Astral projection, therefore, is improving your ability to remember it afterward. We will discuss some tips that help you sharpen your nocturnal adventures :1. Affirmation before Projection : Before you start your projection, always affirm that your consciousness will be crystal clear during your travels and you will bring back vivid memories of everything that happens on the Astral plane. If you repeat this couple of times with desire and intent, you will ha...

Monroe Techniques for Astral Projection
2007-08-27 15:47:00
Every one will want to experience the 'Astral Travel' but it requires practice for some while few can do it very easily. Below is a technique suggessted by Scott Rogo, prentice Hall Press in his book 'Leaving The Body: A Complete Guide to Astral Projection '.One of the chief barriers people learning to project face is fear. Many are afraid that they may die, or be harmed in some way as a result of their projection. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The Cantebury Institute, renowned for its occult studies, executed an experiment in projection involving over 2,000 people. None of them were hurt in any way by this, and now, three years later, none have complained of any newly arising problems.Once you are aware that you cannot be harmed by projecting, you should begin monroe's techniques, step by step.Step one:Relax the body. According to Monroe , "the ability to relax is the first prerequisite, perhaps even the first step itself" to having an OBE. (out of body experience) Th...

Astral Projection - An interview with Jerry Gross (Part II)
2007-08-23 16:05:00
Jones: Are there any dangers people should be aware of? Gross : When you do this consciously, there is no danger in it. One thing I'll say, you must develop your thinking skills, and know what you want and where you want to go. The only dangerous part of it, is if you practice it while you are taking in drugs or alcohol. Remember back in the sixties when people were taking the drug called LSD, and they had some bad trips? They ended up in the lower astral. I'm trying to teach that you can have full control of what you are doing. I would suggest if you like to drink or take drugs that you not try it. Jones: What else can you do when you leave the body? Gross: That is entirely up to you. You must know where you are going. You cannot just leave your body and have no destination, because you'll bounce around like a rubber ball. Remember, you are controlling yourself with your thoughts, so if you think of California, you'll be there. One of the most important things I like to teach p...

Astral Projection - An interview with Jerry Gross (Part I)
2007-08-23 15:47:00
Everyone can have an out-of-body experience, says expert Jerry Gross - in fact, you probably have. In this interview, Gross explains OBEs, what happens and how to begin your adventure. When noted out-of-body teacher and practitioner Jerry Gross wants to travel long distances, he doesn't bother with the time and expense of catching a plane. He just uses a different kind of plane, and travels there astrally - unless, of course, he is teaching one of his many classes and workshops on astral projection, also known as OBE or out-of-body experience.According to Gross, the ability to leave the body has been with him since childhood. Yet, rather than regarding this as a special gift, he believes that this is an inherent ability that can be developed by anyone. In the following article, Gross discusses the out-of-body experience with freelance writer and former workshop participant Sandy Jones. Jones: What is astral projection? How would you describe it? Gross: Astral projection is the abili...

Astral Projection and Astral Travel
2007-08-22 19:23:00
Has anyone of you experienced astral travel? I have heard a lot of stories about them and they truely are fascinating. I wonder how only few people get to do this astral travel. But after analysing and reading a lot of articles related to this I came to a conclusion that everyone does astral travel but only few are able to relate them and understand them.HOW TO ASTRAL TRAVELAstra l projection is a form of out of body experience that sometimes occurs during lucid dreaming during deep meditation or at times of crisis. The soul moves into an astral body (or "etheric double"), which moves free of the physical body in a parallel world known as the astral plane. Astral Travel is spoken about in may mystical texts and has more recently been studied by scientists investigating reports of people who have has a near death experience.ASTRAL TRAVEL CLAIMSDuring an astral voyage, communication with other astral projectors is claimed to be possible. Difference between Nightmares and Night terrors
2007-08-21 16:21:00
Only very recently I came to know the difference between a Night mare and a Night terror. Though both have a common word 'Night', but they are very much different from one another. They form a very important study material when dealing with dream analysis and I thought it would be really useful and interesting to share it with you. There are many sources to find more about this topic but I am quoting here one from 'Sleep Disorders Blog'.There is much difference between nightmares and night terrors and there is a difference in the way of handling by the parents or caretakers.A nightmare is an unpleasant or scary dream. Many of them are unaware of nightmares and children experience more frequently than adults. Children experience them from time to time. One out of four children experience nightmares more than once in a week.A child wakes up after a nightmare and is often distressed and you cannot comfort a child after nightmare.Night terror is not a dream but is a partial awakening...

Brain Teasers and their answers
2007-08-21 16:05:00
This post contains the brain teasers and their answers.22Aug'07 Teas er:At a party, everyone shook hands with everybody else. There were 66 handshakes. How many people were at the party? Answer: With two people (A and B), there is one handshake (A with B).With three people (A, B, and C), there are three handshakes (A with B and C; B with C).With four people (A, B, C, and D), there are six handshakes (A with B, C, and D; B with C and D; C with D).In general, with n+1 people, the number of handshakes is the sum of the first n consecutive numbers: 1+2+3+ ... + n.Since this sum is n(n+1)/2, we need to solve the equation n(n+1)/2 = 66.This is the quadratic equation n2+ n -132 = 0. Solving for n, we obtain 11 as the answer and deduce that there were 12 people at the party. Since 66 is a relatively small number, you can also solve this problem with a hand calculator. Add 1 + 2 = + 3 = +... etc. until the total is 66. The last number that you entered (11) is n. 21Aug'07 Teaser:...

You need to do these things regularly to feel the cumulative effects. 1. Plan important activities when you have the most energy. This is one of my favorite tips. Recurring dreams
2007-08-16 16:25:00
Most dreams contain messages that serve to teach us something about ourselves. Unfortunately many a times we forget what we dream about as we go about our daily routine. With recurring dreams, the message may be so important and/or powerful that it just will not go away. The frequent repetition of such dreams forces you to pay attention and confront the dream. The dream is trying desperately to tell you something. Such dreams are often nightmarish or frightening in their content, which also helps you to take notice and pay attention to them.Recurring dreams are quite common and are often triggered by a certain life situation or a problem that keeps coming back again and again. These dreams may recur daily, once a week, or once a month, but whatever the frequency, there is little variation in the dream content itself. It usually points to a personal weakness, fear, or your inability to cope with something in your life - past or present. The repetitive patterns in your dream can rev...
