FACING THE FEAR AND ANXIETY OF THE UNKNOWN
2006-08-08 19:15:10 By Stanley Popovich All most everybody worries about what will happen in the future. The prospect of not knowing if something good or bad will happen to you in the near future can produce a lot of fear and anxiety. As a result, here is a list of techniques and suggestions on how to manage this fear of dealing with the unknown. Remember is that no one can predict the future with one hundred percent certainty. Even if the thing that you feared does happen there are circumstances and factors that you can?t predict which can be used to your advantage. For instance, let?s say at your place of work that you miss the deadline for a project you have been working on for the last few months. Everything you feared is coming true. Suddenly, your boss comes to your office and tells you that the deadline is extended and that he forgot to tell you the day before. This unknown factor changes everything. Remember: we may be ninety-nine percent correct in predicting the future, but all it takes is... More About: Fear , Unknown , Know , Anxiety , The U

2006-08-06 19:12:02 Hi, this is an article that I wanted to share with you... To visit the Anxiety 2 Calm home page, please click here. The following article is By Stanley Popovich Some people have a difficult time in managing their depression. Sometimes, their depression and fears can get best of them. As a result, here is a short list of techniques that a person can use to help manage their depression. One of the ways to manage your depression is to challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or depressed, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense. For example, your afraid that if you do not get that job promotion then you will be stuck at your job forever. This depresses you, however your thinking in this situation is unrealistic. Self-Medicating for anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia and
2006-08-06 19:12:02 When you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia (and for that matter depression) alcohol and drug abuse can be a very dangerous thing. Although some people find short term relief from their symptoms it is NEVER a solution. Let?s take anxiety. If one is going through an anxious time a night out involving the consumption of large amounts of alcohol can bring temporary calm. It can also improve mood, raise self-esteem and provide courage. I stress again, all of these things are temporary! They do not last more than a few hours and as the effects of the alcohol wear off symptoms worsen once more. Indeed typically symptoms are worse than they were before the alcohol binge started. Making yourself feel worse isn?t the only danger, it is also possible that in order to battle the new strong symptoms you turn again to alcohol. This is how addiction starts. Some research has suggested that a vast majority of substance addiction started as an attempt to self-medicate for anxiety ... More About: Cat , Self , Anxiety , Attacks , Panic
Boosting Confidence 2
2006-08-06 19:12:02 In a previous post we talked about a simple trick to improve confidence. And I stress again that making yourself look more confident will make others treat you as if you are more confident and in turn make you feel more confident! This can be very important when battling anxiety. Before we focussed on body language to improve confidence and I want to continue that theme now with a word or two about posture. Posture has long been linked to emotion. The famous Alexander technique links posture with all sorts of physical and mental health benefits. In short, posture can definitely help with breathing, digestion and aches and pains. More about that another day, I want to talk about confidence. People who slouch and have hunched rounded shoulders don?t look confident. They look more nervous, less enthusiastic, less outgoing, less interesting, less brave and less attractive! And just like before, how you look will effect how other people interact with you and, most importantly, how you ... More About: Confidence , Sting , Boost
Boosting Confidence
2006-08-06 19:12:02 Just a little tip I learnt about confidence When we have anxiety, we tend to suffer low confidence. It?s another classic ?chicken and egg? scenario that you see so often in anxiety and depression related mood disorders. Does anxiety zap our confidence? Or did we develop anxiety because we had low confidence? The truth is that it?s probably different for different people. Either way, getting more confidence is important. Obviously we act more confident when we feel more confident, but the reverse is also true. When we act more confidently we also feel more confident. Confidence is also one of those things that seem to trigger a sixth sense reaction in others. As an anxiety sufferer you can probably tell when you see someone who is feeling anxious. You probably pick up on the basic signs such as fidgeting and eyes scanning the room for danger/exits. Well, the same is true for confidence. Subtle body language let?s people know whether you are confident or nervous. The key word there ... More About: Sting , Boost

Anxiety, Celexa and Weight Gain
More articles from this author:2006-08-06 19:12:02 One reader who has taken Celexa (citalopram) for and anxiety disorder wrote: I had been in a bad way when I decided to take medication. I had been off my food (extremely rare for me) and had been suffering a month of continued anxiety, which seemed to be some kind of Acute Stress Response. My usual weight was generally in the region of about 86KGs but when my exercise regime had been lacking my weight was closer to 89KGs. When I started the Celexa I weighed only 82KG. I remember this distinctly because it was the only thing that made me happy. Being anxious and depressed, and feeling night-time panic, had seen my appetite drop massively and I was thinner than I ever remembered being. After a few weeks on Celexa my appetite came back with a vengeance. I saw this as a positive thing and I was able to enjoy food again. The problem was that my appetite turned vast and I couldn?t say no to sweet foods and high carbohydrates. I stayed on Celexa as it was very effective with dealing w...
