Does Vitamin D prevent Cancer?
2007-11-06 09:20:00
Question: from Brenda In your Total-Balance product, does it contain enough naturally compounded vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) to prevent Cancer ? If not, which brand should I get the Vitamin D3 to prevent Cancer? I learned recently that enough Vitamin D is the key to prevent cancers. Answer: from Warren Matthews of Xtend-Life Recently there has been quite a lot of publicity extolling high dose Vitamin D as a ‘Cancer prevention’ protocol. There is no doubt that Vitamin D is a factor in helping prevent Cancer, but it has to be put into perspective. The sad fact is that a high proportion of the general population is deficient in Vitamin D and that is without doubt a factor in contributing to an increased risk of Cancer. In other words it is not a matter of taking mega doses of Vitamin D but rather ensuring that you don’t have a deficiency. Remember that most cancers are due to a nutrient deficiency!

With the change of seasons from Summer to Fall we need to change our supplies in our medicine cabinet. With cooler weather comes a different set of illnesses that can be nipped in the bud with the right medicinals. Arnica (Arnica montana): This year round herb helps stop pain. Use this for arthritic aches, often set off by seasonal changes. Rub the tincture, cream, or gel on sore spots, Do not use on broken skin. Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceous) : Take two capsules of this Antiviral herb twice a day to prevent or treat colds and flu. Look for Astragalus products standardized to 15-percent polysaccharides. Calendula (Calendula officinalis) : Use Calendula tinctures, oil, lotions, or creams to soothe chapped skin and lips. Look for products with at least 10-percent extract of Calendula. Chamomile (Matricaria recutita): This soothing herb works great as a dust-irritant reliever. Brew a cup of tea and let it cool. Traditional Herbal Blood Tonic
2007-11-06 09:13:00
Blood tonics today are used for Cancer prevention; Cancer treatment; liver health, viral and bacterial infections. In the days of old blood tonics were called Spring Tonic s and farmers would religiously take them come Spring Time after a long sedentary winter to get their sluggish blood in shape for the upcoming season of farming. A custom that has been lost in today’s world. Why? And why aren’t blood tonics readily available for purchase from holistic healers or from health food stores? Could it be that pharmaceutical companies don’t want any competition from herbal and botanical medicines? In Dr. Wright’s Newsletter dated September 17, 2007, he talked about Washington State’s war on holistic M.D.s. Sad but true. Holistic healers are still being attacked in the USA that spouts that we are a Free Nation…except when it comes to health care, of course. The onslaught on alternative healers is brought about by Big Pharma, Big Business, the American Cancer Society, the AMA a...

Herbs for Insomnia
2007-11-06 09:10:00
Insomnia is a symptom, not a disease. Insomnia can have many causes, but the biggest cause is due to stress. Stress related to work, school, health or family concerns. Depression is the second biggest cause. The use of stimulants, including caffeine, alcohol, nicotine or other over-the-counter or prescription medications will also cause Insomnia. Prescription drugs, including some Antidepressant, High Blood Pressure and steroid medications, can interfere with sleep. Many over-the-counter medications, including some brands of aspirin, decongestants and weight loss products, contain caffeine and other stimulants. Change in your environment or work schedule and even long-term use of sleep medications will actually interupt your sleep cycle. Medical problems, including fibromyalgia or complex diseases of the nerves and muscles can make it very difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep. Behavioral Insomnia, occurs when you worry excessively about not being able to sleep well and try t...

Best Herbs for Tea
2007-11-06 09:07:00
Once I began blending and testing herb Teas to sell under my “Mossie Rocks” country store label, I knew what I didn’t want. An herb tea should never be flat and flavorless. Whether it’s fruity or spicy, soothing or lively, simple or sophisticated, it needs taste and personality. I found my homegrown Mint, Lemon Balm and Chamomile were more flavorful than the herbal ingredients I could buy. I also learned that many of the old-fashioned beverage flavorers, such as Rose petals and toasted Sunflower hulls, are still delightful additions. And for simple pleasures, few things equal the fragrance and flavor of a few fresh leaves of Lemon Verbena steeped in boiling water. Favorites ….. Here are my picks for the most flavorful and widely adapted “tea” plants for home gardens, along with tips for harvesting and my favorite recipes. All of these plants grow well throughout the United States. They are hardy perennials (up to -20oF) that do well in sun or part shade, except wher...

Fight Infections with Three Powerful Herbs
2007-11-06 09:04:00
Wise women through the centuries have kept themselves and their families safe from contagious diseases. If we are actively dealing with infection, especially lung infections, these three powerful roots stand ready to help us: Elecampane, Echinacea, and poke. Elecampane (Inula helenium) is a beautiful Sunflower-like perennial found in wet pastures or easily cultivated in a sunny garden spot. The roots are dug in the fall after the plants are established (at least three years) and tinctured in 100 proof vodka for six weeks. Do not use Elecampane in capsules. I find Elecampane root amazingly powerful in clearing all infections from the lungs. The usual dose is 10-15 drops several times a day, but I would increase the dose and take it as much as 6 times a day in an acute situation. I expect to see results from using Elecampane within a day or less. I would only take Elecampane if I had an active infection. It has little protective value. To protect the lungs, use Mullein and Organ...
