Axe in head
2007-10-09 20:55:00 One of my professors today showed up with an x-ray of a kid with an axe in his head. He brought this x-ray for shock value. After watching all the Faces of Death videos and making them into a drinking game, shock is something I don?t acquire easily. I was told that this kid warned a driver that his wheel was wobbling. The guy in the back of the truck jumped out with an axe and slammed it into the kid?s head in 2006. My professor had to take care of that kid. Unfortunately, the kid died. What a messed up world we live in. More About: Head
Highest suicide rates in healthcare?
2007-10-08 03:41:00 I was told that the three highest suicide rates included physicians, nurses, psychologists, and dentists. This was especially discerning since I?m studying to be a RT. I?m practically an underpaid nurse. I am man nurse. I?m a murse. This bothered me so I did some research and I found this, which states that nurses are 4x more likely to commit suicide compared with people outside medicine. Primary indications include overwork, stress, and easy access to drugs. It was published in 2001 so I did a little more research and found this.It states that higher suicide rates are found in white male physicians, black male guards, and white female artists. Then again, this article was published in 2000.In conclusion: Either there is no conclusive evidence linking profession and suicide or I need to find recent articles about this stuff. Day 1
2007-10-07 01:18:00 It has been a month since the program started. I am going to name my classes and talk a little about them: Patient evaluationGood professor but since it is the first class in the morning, I feel like going back to bed. Respiratory Care Procedures II was not expecting this much math when I started the program. Egan?s Fundamentals of Respiratory Care is the devil. It sucks up my procrastination time like a vacuum and before I know it, I have to go to bed.Cardiopulmonary Anatomy and PhysiologyThough the class is enlightening, weekly quizzes are not amusing. Communication and Cultural DiversityThis is a prerequisite class. I thought it was part of the program. An idiot is me. The professor is awesome simply because she is old and senile (in a good way). To all health care majors: Know your stuff. The classes are difficult. See you next time. 1, 2, 3 |
