Herbal Weight-Loss Pills
2007-12-18 05:20:00 Can dietary supplements help me lose weight? "Eat! Eat! Eat! And Always Stay Thin! No Diet, No Exercise!" Sounds great, doesn't it? Unfortunately, you'll have a hard time responding to this particular ad. For one thing, it dates to the early 1900's. And, to make matters worse, pharmacies no longer sell the miracle product: sanitized tape worms. Weight loss products have changed in the last century, but the pitches remain the same. Indeed, many herbs, supplements, and diet pills promise results that would put even the most efficient tape worms to shame. Of course it's no secret that many of these products are fraudulent. But is it possible that a few of them really can live up to their claims? read more More About: Weight Loss , Loss , Herbal , Pills

In addition to its healthful benefit of strong antioxidant activity and its Leptin is a protein produced by fats that appear to play an important role in how the body manages fat storage through brain signals. Years ago it was thought by scientists that lower leptin levels would increase appetite. Current research has now found that it does just the opposite and decreases appetite. There is clear evidence that green tea's polyphenols (EGCG) are a factor in depressing leptin as well as affecting other hormone levels important in regulating appetite. read more More About: Weight Loss , Weight , Green , Loss , Green Tea

You've seen the ads promising successful weight loss by taking diet drugs or weight loss supplements, but do they really deliver results? Could weight loss medications and over-the-counter supplements really help to reverse the obesity epidemic? Experts who spoke to WebMD agreed that there's no such thing as a quick fix or magic bullet when it comes to losing weight. Weight loss medications (not to be confused with dietary supplements) can help you lose weight, but only if you also cut calories and get moving. The International Journal of Obesity states that green tea contains polyphenols which cause your body to produce unnecessary heat, thus "wasting" calories. When preparing green tea, be sure not to use boiling water, as this will cause the tea to be bitter. Also, the longer the tea steeps, the more bitter it will taste. Adjusting PSA Scores For Obese Men Or Cancers May Be Missed
2007-12-06 09:45:00 "Obese men have more blood circulating throughout their bodies than normal weight men, and as a result, the concentration of prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, in the blood -- the gold standard for detecting prostate cancer -- can become diluted," said Stephen Freedland, M.D., a Duke urologist and senior researcher on the study.* "We've known for a while that obese men tend to have lower PSA scores than normal weight men, but our study really proposes a reason why this happens, and points to the need for an adjustment in the way we interpret PSA scores that will take body weight into account. If not, we may be missing a large number of cancers each year." read more More About: General , Scores
