The Benefits of Goji Juice
2008-04-10 19:43:00
The most interesting characteristic are the four polysaccharides unique to goji juice. These four polysaccharides, or phytonutrient compounds, work in the body as directors and carriers of the instructions that cells use to communicate with each other. These polysaccharides are Master Molecules that command and control many of the body’s most important defense systems. It is also what makes Goji Juice unique above all other Juices. Goji of Himalayan quality exhibits a balanced polysaccharide profile and a uniquely potent Spectral Signature. It is the true descendant of the original goji of legend. Goji juice contains 19 amino acids that are the building blocks of protein, including nine that are essential to the body. It contains more protein than whole wheat and contains higher levels of vitamin C than oranges and even contains 21 trace minerals. Tags: goji juice, goji berries, goji, gogi, goji berry

Information on Planting Goji Berries
2008-04-07 02:01:00
The Goji plant is quite hardy. It likes full sun except in hot climates. What else would you expect from a plant that originated in the Himalayas? Hopefully you’re not in a hurry for the berries. The shrubs don’t usually bear fruit until about the third year. But you can use the leaves in a salad while you wait. You’ll know your shrubs are about to bear fruit because you’ll start to get small purple/white trumpet flowers from summer until the first freeze. You can get your Goji shrub to become more bushy by nipping buds so that it forms more branches. A wide variety of animals such as rabbits, birds and deer also like to snack on Goji berries . Beware of the tomato worm and other insects. Tags: growing goji, goji berry plants, goji berries, gogi, goji, goji berry

Combat Inflammation & Joint Problems
2008-04-02 00:30:00
Scientific research has shown that with acute and chronic inflammation, free radicals like superoxide are produced at a rate that overwhelms the capacity of the body’s superoxide dismutase enzyme defense system to remove them. Such an imbalance results in pain and damage to joints and tissues. Goji can help to restore the balance of the important anti-inflammatory SOD enzyme. It could be grown with the help of strong full spectrum artificial light or you can put the plant near a window that receives direct sunlight for at least eight to ten hours a day. But it is always better to grow them outside although you can grow them indoors also. But for that you would have to pollinate the flowers by hand. Usual dosage level: 2 - 4 oz. daily In a study of goji berry reported in the Journal of the Beijing Medical University(1992), it was noted that goji reduced antibodies associated with allergy-type reactions, which was presumed to be accomplished through the mechanisms of promoting CD8(+) T-cells and regulating cytokines. Probably as a result of this activity, goji berry has also been reported to be a useful treatment for psoriasis. Tags: goji, goji berry, goji berries, wholesale goji, gogi, gogi berry

Chicago Bull Ben Gordon wants to know about diets.
2008-03-21 00:02:00
Ben Gordon , leading scorer for the Chicago Bull s, needs some nutrition information. “I’m a professional athlete. I train anywhere between two and three times a day. … What kind of foods can I add to my diet to help me maintain high energy levels throughout my diet and not crash after I’m finished working out,” he says. Dr. Oz recommends that Ben eat more foods with antioxidants. “What happens to a lot of great athletes is they are creating so much oxidation in their body from working out all the time, especially if you’re working out for more than two hours a day—you’re doing this for sure—that you don’t have the oxidant stores to keep up with that. So you’ve got to build up those antioxidant stores by taking leafy green vegetables.” Bright colored fruits, like goji berries, are also great, Dr. Oz says. “They grow in the Himalayas. They’re the most potent antioxidant fruit that we know,” he says. &...

What’s in a Goji Berry?
2008-03-18 23:35:00
Good Goji Berries are a powerhouse of nutrition. The tiny red berries contain 18 of the 20 protein-building amino acids. They are also rich in complex polysaccharides, unique low-glycemic long-chain sugars which are currently being researched for their healing properties. When grown under ideal conditions, wolfberries are rich in disease-preventing polyphenols and flavonoids and are over 20% fiber. They contain more vitamin C than oranges, more beta-carotene than carrots, more calcium than broccoli and more antioxidants than any other food. Spectrometers
2008-03-14 21:17:00
Perhaps the best way to think of a spectrometer is to relate it to a prism. A prism takes the white light of the sun and breaks it up into its component colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. What we perceive as color is simply a reflection of the sun’s energy in the narrow band of wavelengths and frequencies our eyes can see. In the same way that our ears cannot hear a high-pitched dog whistle, our eyes cannot detect any of the sun’s rays that are outside their limited range. To counter our built-in limitations, the military uses night scopes, which allow one to see the otherwise invisible, low-energy infrared rays. On the other side of the visible spectrum, the use of a black light can allow one to see the fluorescent colors in the high-energy ultraviolet part of the spectrum. In the 1960s, ‘hippies’ used black lights in pursuit of a different type of high energy. There are other forms of energy as well. From lowest energy level to hig...

Inconsistent Berries Give Inconsistent Results
2008-03-10 22:01:00
When scientific studies were first initiated to confirm the traditionally observed benefits of goji berries, they did not yield uniformly positive results. It could have been foreseen that these studies would arrive at inconsistent conclusions, as they were performed using the whole dried berries. There can be tremendous variation in the quality of dried fruits, depending upon how they were harvested, dehydrated and stored, and also depending upon the quality of the fresh berries from which they were made. While goji berries grow in a lot of places, their quality can vary enormously. The same is true in the growing of wine grapes. How is it that the Chardonnay grapes of one vineyard will yield a spectacular vintage, while the same grapes in a neighboring field will produce wines that are merely ordinary? A few minutes more of daily sunshine or a little better drainage in one field or the other can make all the difference between a $100 bottle of Dom Perignon and a $10 ...

Fruits have Positive Impact on Health
2008-03-06 23:43:00
An overwhelming body of research has now firmly established that the dietary intake of berry fruits has a positive and profound impact on human health, performance, and disease. Berry fruits, which are commercially cultivated and commonly consumed in fresh and processed forms in North America, include blackberry ( Rubus spp.), black raspberry ( Rubus occidentalis), blueberry ( Vaccinium corymbosum), cranberry (i.e., the American cranberry, Vaccinium macrocarpon, distinct from the European cranberry, V. oxycoccus), red raspberry ( Rubus idaeus) and strawberry ( Fragaria x ananassa). Other berry fruits, which are lesser known but consumed in the traditional diets of North American tribal communities, include chokecherry ( Prunus virginiana), highbush cranberry ( Viburnum trilobum), serviceberry ( Amelanchier alnifolia), and silver buffaloberry ( Shepherdia argentea). In addition, berry fruits such as arctic bramble ( Rubus articus), bilberries ( Vaccinuim myrtillus; also known as bog ...

Compounds in Goji Berries and Other Plants May Prevent Blood Clots
2008-02-28 23:09:00
Compounds in Goji Berries and Other Plants May Prevent Blood Clots: ARS researchers have recently identified, characterized, and synthesized two plant compounds, which might inhibit blood clotting. The research, led by Dr. Jae Park at the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center’s Phytonutrients Laboratory, could lead to a range of food additives and supplements that reduce the risks of heart disease and strokes. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is characterized by the buildup of fat, calcium and protein that form plaque. Fatty plaque can heighten the onset of blood clots, caused by an aggregation of platelets, and lead to heart attacks or strokes. After excessive screening of different phytochemicals, Park identified N-Caffeoyldopamine, N-Couraroyldopamine, and their analogs, as the best compounds for further study. These compounds are found naturally in foodstuffs such as Goji Berries, cocoa, and sweet peppers. The compounds work by inhibiting key reactions that may lead to bl...
What Does the Research on Goji Juice Tell Us?
2008-02-27 22:45:00
In 1992, the Journal of the Beijing Medical University reported that in their studies, Goji Juice reduced antibodies associated with allergic reactions and other histamine-related syndromes like psoriasis. Anti-aging studies conducted by Dr. J. Zhang in 1993 were promising; goji juice contains a powerful secretagogue, a substance that acts on the pituitary gland to slow the aging process. In studies with elderly people, researchers found that subjects reported beneficial changes in strength, sexual libido, improved sleep and appetite, and were less susceptible to disease. Auto-Immune Disorders
2008-02-04 20:22:00
Immune cells are like guards that constantly police our bodies, looking for harmful intruders and attacking any they find. Problems arise when the immune cells misidentify healthy cells as invaders and attack these, essentially making the body turn on itself and triggering auto-immune disease. One in five Americans suffer from an auto-immune disease. Three out ...
