And the result of my weigh in is...
2008-02-03 23:43:00 From another highly-inspirational petecohen.tv weight-loss programme member:"And the result of my weigh in is - - - I've lost 11.5lbs in 4 weeks! Only another 16.5 lbs to go till I reach my previously unattainable goal, now it is so close I can feel it, I just want the time to pass so I am "there", but I have already waited 20 years, I can wait a bit longer. In 8.5lbs time I will be the lightest I have been for 19 years and that is my next mini goal. This is fab, espeically as I had to kick myself up the butt to get myself moving and scream at that lazy duck to shut itself up many times. I already have got in to my tight work trousers, and today you probably heard my whoop of joy as I got in to a pair of cargo pants I bought a couple of years ago and have not been able to get in to previously. I measured myself also and have lost 2" off my bust (dropped 2 bra sizes!), 1.5" each off waist and hips and 1.5" off each thigh. To say I am pleased is an u... More About: Result , Weigh

2008-01-29 18:11:00 Yesterday at the gym at 6.30 am. Resistance first then cardio. Quite enjoying early morning exercise. I feel invigorated for the day. Lots of messages of support from my work friends and patients. Continued support from my loved ones. Followed Amanda's nutrition plan throughout the day and not missing any foods. Ate at friends last night - baked salmon and stir fried veggies - delicious. Suddenly became very tired and found it difficult to keep my eyes open when driving home. Really wanted caffeine but refrained and slept like a baby. I feel pretty good and really motivated. More About: Karen

An Apple a Day
2008-01-28 11:35:00 I remember growing up hearing my mum say to me that “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”...I heard this so many times it became a very strong belief and I've made a habit out of eating them regularly to improve my health and to 'keep the doctor away'. What about you? Also, do you know what makes an apple so special? Why is it that we never hear that an orange, or even a banana a day keeps-the-doctor-away? An apple has a combination of properties that no other fruits have and the benefits have been proven over time. Of course you could match the health potential of an apple with other fruits but it would require a bit of a cocktail, whereas an apple combines everything and keeps it simple.Apple s also contain Vitamin C which greatly helps your immune system. A lot of people who lack Vitamin C in their diet have poor healing, bruise easily and have bleeding gums. Your apple is also low in calories; a regular size apple has between 70-100 calories and eating an...

Inch Loss Island - Karate-stylee
2008-01-24 10:20:00 It’s the fourth day of Inch Loss and what a great time we’ve had. I am sure our three girls have lost weight and inches. They look great, their fitness levels have gone through the roof, and the day detox they did has given them a whole load of energy. The session they did with Anton De Beke was so funny but not as funny as getting me to do the dance with them live on GMTV yesterday. I just hope no one saw me as I was trying to hide at the back.Yesterday saw me do some dynamic karate style board breaking on GMTV. I then got our three recruits to have a go but only Kazza was able to break it. Gail and Karen failed but their determination was great and after the show they had another go where they succeeded. This was filmed and will be shown live on GMTV today. It was all a good exercise for them because just like in the real world; we don’t always get results when we try things for the first time. Many peoples attitudes affect the results they get and all too often w... If you can boil a potato you can make soup
2008-01-24 00:22:00 If you can boil a potato you can make soup, even if you’ve never tried before. Now that there are good quality fresh soups sold in cartons, it’s easy to enjoy soup more often, but they are expensive to buy. You can make your own in large batches and freeze some in individual portions ready for when you need to eat in a hurry. The FactsFor the past few years various soups have been associated with diet programmes, the ‘Cabbage Soup ’ diet being the most famous: The Cabbage Soup diet (or yummy yum diet, as it’s also known) still attracts a big following by promising ten pounds of weight loss in a week. As only two pounds of that could possibly be fat there doesn’t seem to be much point in it and certainly doesn’t sound like fun.But don’t let that put you off your soup, because soup is great and there’s even some evidence that it really can help you lose weight. In a recent study normal weight women are given a lunch of either chicken ... 2008-01-24 00:10:00 Serves: 4-6. Cooking Time: 15-30 minutesBe adventurous and make up your own soups with your favourite ingredients and seasonings. See what you have in the fridge or store cupboard, use leftovers and take the opportunity to buy fresh foods that are cheap and in season. What you need: • 500g-1kg/1lb 2oz-2lb 4oz solids: vegetables, canned tomatoes, sweetcorn, beans, potatoes, rice, onions, garlic, pasta, etc.• 1-1.5 litres/1½-2½ pints meat or vegetable stock, seasonings, spices and flavouringsHow to do it: 1. Simply sauté the chopped onion, garlic and any other hard vegetables in a tablespoon of oil, or soften and turn them a light golden brown, which brings out their sweetness and flavour.2. Using a non-stick pan and covering it while you sauté the vegetables, so that they sweat as well as fry will mean using less oil, (you can speed up things by leaving out this stage and simply cooking all the ingredients together but it won’t tas... Soup Suggestions
2008-01-24 00:05:00 • Red pepper, fresh or canned tomato and carrot with garlic and paprika.• Squash or pumpkin chowder with onion, potato, ginger and lime. • Pasta, potato and pesto soup – another rustic one which cooks in time it takes to have a shower! • Carrot and coriander with onion, parsnip and lentils or a can of cannelloni beans – very filling. • Sweet potato, onion, garlic and a can of creamed sweetcorn with fresh coriander, lime juice and paprika or chilli. • Leek, potato and onion with chicken stock and low fat crème fraiche or quark. This can be left chunky or whisked until smooth and velvety. • Canned ratatouille and a drained can of cannelloni beans, cooked with vegetable stock, garlic stock, garlic salt and sweet paprika pepper – a real store cupboard standby that takes less than five minutes to make. • The quality of the stock you use really determines the finished flavour of any dish, especially in the clear soups that a... Inch Loss Island - Strictly Come Detox
2008-01-22 23:21:00 Well, it’s day 2 and our recruits haven’t had a moment to themselves as, once again, they were woken up at 5am for an early morning workout. They appear to be doing well - but they are being tested. Today, they are going through a detox; only having fruit juices and some vegetable broth. Rather them then me! But it’s not a bad thing, as their bodies will benefit from not having to deal with some of the foods they're accustomed to eating. They are in for a surprise this afternoon as Anton Du Beke, who was Kate Garraway’s dancing partner in Strict ly Come Dancing is here to teach our recruits how to ballroom dance. They don’t know how lucky they are! Is it just me, or does Karen look like she's enjoying this?Until Tomorrow,Take care, Pete More About: Island , Loss , Detox , Inch
Inch Loss Island - How fit is Amanda?
2008-01-21 19:25:00 It’s only day one and already emotions have run high. First off we had technical problems today that stopped us showing any of Inch Loss live. But, what can you do? Technology never works perfectly... all we can do is hope that tomorrow runs more smoothly. Our recruits were woken up at 5 this morning for a fitness session, it’s now 6pm and they're sooo tired, but still smiling. Karen from Scotland has been really upset today as she finally accepted what she has done to herself over the years. I had a heart-to-heart with her and she got pretty upset. I know though, that this is a good thing, because she's facing up to herself and allowing the stored negative emotions to come out. They are great girls and I am sure they will do really well. The experts have been working-out together... we have just finished a run around the island. How fit are Doctor Hilary and Amanda Hamilton? I tell you - VERY FIT!Until tomorrow, Take care. Pete More About: Island
Inch Loss Island - Day 2 - Early Start
2008-01-21 06:12:00 It’s Day 2 and it’s 4.50am. Our recruits are in for shock as they are being woken up at 5am by our fitness trainer Mark Anthony for an early morning workout. I can’t imagine that they would have ever experienced anything like this before but we need to get them out of their comfort zones and get them doing things differently because; if they always do what they’ve always done then they will always get what they’ve always got.Today sees me greet the ladies live on air (weather permitting!) at 8.15 as someone who’s is overweight. I was going to be wearing a fat suit but it was left in London by the GMTV crew so we are going to pad me out with loads of sheets and towels to make me look overweight. I am sure this might upset some viewers, as they may think I'm making fun of their weight, but I actually want to make a really important point to our recruits, and to the viewers . The fact is no one is born overweight, they have become that way... More About: Start , Island , Loss , Early , Inch
Inch Loss Island - The Last Supper
2008-01-20 22:05:00 Hi, quick one as I'm in a rush... Inch Loss has begun! We left London this morning at 7 in a bus with our three inch loss recruit girls:Our two Karens and Gail; Karen Benford on the left, Gail Maycroft and Karen Parker on the right. It's weird being back here as it's been five years since my last Inch Loss. One of my greatest TV moments was a live fire walk that our recruits did. You can see this on my show-reel, it was a whole load of fun! I am in the most beautiful room looking over the sea as our Inch Loss recruits are having their last supper - so to speak - as it's their last opportunity to eat whatever they want before the Inch Loss Regime starts tomorrow.Any way I better go as I've got a meeting with my fellow experts, Mark Anthony, personal trainer to the stars, Amanda Hamilton the gorgeous nutritionist from bonny Scotland and the TV legend that is Doctor Hilary Jones.Take care and watch this space. Inch Loss Islanders discover island paradise is not Maldives, but Devon!
2008-01-19 13:10:00 So our Inch Loss recruits have found out where they're going. The look on their faces was priceless! Perhaps they were expecting a lovely warm island somewhere in the South Pacific, not a little island just off the weather-beaten Devon Coast! For me, I am very much looking forward to going back to Burgh Island as this is where Inch Loss Island first began seven years ago. Our four new recruits have no idea what we have in store for them. They will never forget this week as it will build a platform from which they will become fitter slimmer and healthier. If you can, watch GMTV from Monday through to Friday from 7am. You can also watch their progress on the web site, www.GM.TVAnd remember, the things I'll be teaching the Inch Loss Islanders during their stay is all based on my 28-day petecohen.tv Weight Loss Program - just that it's jammed into 7 days for the Islanders... Confessions of a couch potato...
2008-01-19 12:42:00 From a member, I have to admit I nearly got a tear in my eye reading this one:"I have realised that I AM a couch potato. When I was younger, I was aways running, jumping, dancing - I was never still and I was a lovley and slim size 10 (this was in my thirties so I know it is achievable again). But the past few years I have developed this habit of sttiing completely still watching TV or working on the PC - I have become a totally immobile, couch potato. What is my exercise of choice? Watching TV with a glass of red wine and snack - cheese / salami / crisps - easy to see how the weight slips on, isn't it? And the half hearted exercise I was doing served no purpose other than to maintain my late night drinking and snacking habit. God, thsis hard to write, feels almost like a confessional........... I am trying to say I am finally off my a*se and using the exercise tool - I did 30 mins on the cross trainer last night. after about 10 miutes the duck had to be firmly shut up - it... Curb Appeal won't go far in the long run
2008-01-18 17:11:00 Let’s consider your motor car for a moment, if you were to spend the next year investing your time and money on how your car looked, never checking under the bonnet, not going for a service, or having an MOT. What do you think would happen? Suppose you continued with this process for a couple of years? You may have curb appeal, but you won’t go far in the long run. Apply this principle to your life and your body. When considering an exercise regime or a change in eating habits, contemplate what benefits it will have on all your internal organs, how healthy will they feel? How will they help you in the long run? Perhaps investing time in reading and studying will help boost your confidence and diminish your negative attitude to your body. Nourishing yourself from the inside out will allow you to not only feel better, but you will feel good about yourself as you are making a wise long term investment towards your health and ultimate happiness. Queen of negative thinking
2008-01-09 21:23:00 From one of my weight-loss program members:Journal Entry:Title: "Queen of negative thinking"Entry: "I have done both day 4 and day 5 today (will do day 5 again tomorrow as it is very good and I want to keep in sequence) as last night all the negative thoughts I could muster were swirling round in my head.... I have not had an alcoholic drink since 31/12/07 and if there had been any in the house last night, I probably would have succumbed. It was all I could think of. I busied myself with other things and had some herbal tea AND I DID NOT EAT but I was talking to myself very negatively and harshly all the time, which didn't help. I did day 4 this morning and noticed day 5 was about dealing with negativity - so I did that as well! I am doing fine apart from that, it just makes me realise how much of this is in my head and I would not have got this far without this programme. Wish List
2008-01-09 00:41:00 Well January 2008 is well and truly here. How goes it in your world? Have you set any new resolutions yet? Add them to the comments if you have! A while back, I set out my mini-guide for a great year, which included making a commitment to look after yourself, making yourself a priority, and having loads of fun. With that commitment in mind, I encourage you to put together a wish list of all the things you would like to achieve this year. Something amazing happens when we write down what we want. I remember about ten years ago, I was at a workshop and we were asked to write down all the goals we wanted to achieve. I wrote down: I want to write several books.I want to live in a quiet and peaceful place.I want to appear on TV, inspiring and motivating people. Now the strange thing is that I didn't really think about this list very often until a few years ago, when I was clearing out some of my possessions. Amongst them, I found the book that I... TIP OF THE DAY - Do you like what you see?
2008-01-09 00:39:00 At this time of year we are still trying to stick to our new years resolutions and maintain our enthusiasm for our health and fitness regime. What drives some of us is the sight of our naked form as we catch glimpse of ourselves in the bathroom mirror. What do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you like what you see? Why not? How you look at yourself has a dramatic effect on your life. What do you say to yourself when you look in the mirror? My guess is that you focus on what you do not like, and the overall effect is that you are not happy with what you see. If you don’t like your body, it weakens your self-concept. It makes you feel inadequate, and not worthwhile. Perhaps it is not worth bothering to lose weight after all? Being able to help yourself lose weight is not about being positive or negative in your way of thinking; it's about being yourself. There's nothing wrong with being imperfect; it's part of what it means to be a human being.

Britain tops fast-food league, as world obesity grows: study
2008-01-02 17:03:00 Scary Stuff: LONDON (AFP) — Britons are the world's biggest fans of fast food, just ahead of Americans, while famously gastronomic French are the least attracted by quick meals, according to a study published Wednesday. America's reputation as the home of fast food is under threat from the British, who are more addicted to burgers, chips and pizza than any other nation in the world. Despite fears over an obesity epidemic, a survey has found that Britain 's relationship with junk food has become even stronger than that enjoyed by the US, traditionally known for its devotion to all things deep fried.A poll of 9,000 people in 13 nations found almost half of British respondents would be unable to give up fast food. Some 45 per cent of those surveyed in the UK agreed with the statement "I like the taste of fast food too much to give it up", while 44 per cent of Americans said they would be unable to shun burgers, pizzas and chicken w... What's Goin On
2008-01-01 19:01:00 Happy New Year to you all! This time is always a bit of strain for so many people. To me, it's always been a bit of an anti-climax. I can remember festive periods gone by when everything seemed to slow down, people had fun and enjoyed some rest and some time with friends and family. It was a time where many people had a chance to reflect and think about the year ahead. This seems to be almost impossible today because of the crazy pace of life we live. There are so many pressures in this commercial world we live in. I couldn't believe, on Christmas Eve, reading a newspaper advert for a sale in a big store that was starting on Christmas day on-line. What's going on? In the past, I've gone away at this time of year and had a quiet time escaping the parties and spending some quiet time with close friends. I always take time to think about the year ahead and focus on what's important."What's Goin g On" is a song by Marvin Gaye, it's about ...
