Naomi Campbell Makes Good...
2008-03-28 02:11:00
And you thought she was just hell on wheels 24-7. Not so! As much has been publicized about her tirades and anger outbursts against assistants and such, it should also be known that the model is very involved in many humanitarian efforts, her latest being establishing both a rehabilitation center and school in Nairobi, Kenya. As reported by Paul Gitau And Kipchumba Kemei:International super model, Ms Naomi Campbell will establish a drug rehabilitation centre and modeling school in Kenya.Campbell, who arrived in Malindi on Friday in a private jet, said she was discussing the matter with a prominent person in Nairobi. She was addressing a news conference on Monday at Lion in the Sun Hotel in Casuarina, Malindi, where she spent the Easter holiday.Campbell said: "I decided to establish a rehabilitation centre after seeing many productive people get addicted."She urged foreigners to tour Kenya. (more)Way to go, Naomi! We know there's a heart under that bad girl exterior! ;)

The King is Toppled From His Throne...
2008-03-24 05:38:00
Well, 3 months into the new season, and it's official. The dominant reign of Roger Federer in men's tennis is over. Or at least at a pause. It's shocking how quickly this has happened. Just last year, R Fed was his usual excellent self, assassinating opponents left and right, instilling fear in all from the locker room on. At one time he really was unbeatable. Now, the list of guys achieving that on the circuit is growing. It's actually becoming its own new club. He's now being beaten by not only the top seeds, but surprisingly this weekend he also got wiped out by 98th ranked American Mardy Fish (in straight sets!!!). I'm sure we all fell off our collective chairs the moment THAT match ended! What the hell is happening here?Whatever it is, I hope he shakes it off soon, and gets back to being the Roger Federer we all know and were in awe of. No man on the tennis circuit has ever exhibited such a fierce and complete arsenal of weapons and talent on the court. Even thou...

Pole Dancing the New Fitness Craze - In China
2008-03-13 05:05:00
Well, is nothing sacred? Everywhere in the world now, you can find striptease dance classes, erotic dance workshops, and that old strip club staple, pole dancing. "Pole dancing. It's not just for strippers anymore!"In the past couple years, the stripper pole has become such a pop culture item, that people have begun having them installed in their houses. You no longer have to go to the Jiggly Room to find a woman swinging and undulating on a pole. Just go home. The Chinese, who tend to follow popular American trends closely, are now mad about pole dancing. Pole dancing classes have popped up in all the major cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, and membership is exploding like crazy.Luo Lau, a Chinese dancer who caught the fever after seeing her fist pole dance in Paris, came back and decided to open her own pole dancing studio in Beijing. For about 1200 yuan a year (roughly $15 a session), you can take this class a few times a week. The once conservative and demure ...

Last Chance to Shred Some Snow...
2008-03-11 19:38:00
Well, as you know, the snowboarding and skiing season is a short one. Kind of a November to March, early April thing (if you can find someplace still making snow!).Unless you live in Iceland or close to one of the poles, it's pretty much getting to be crunch time. Boarders far and wide will soon resignedly hang up their snowboards, and then turn to their "summer sports".So my snow friends and I have been scrambling to try to get another day or weekend in! This hasn't been easy, because the last two weekends have been horrible weatherwise. Either blizzards, non stop rain, icy conditions, etc. But it looks like we're gonna get to ride in a couple days, cause some good snow's a comin'.So, while out here Googling all manner of snowboard and skiing topics, I came upon these boards where people discuss their skiing and snowboarding injuries. Not really the best thing to do if you're squeamish, but I'm not. I also read somewhere this blog of a guy who snapped his tibia coming dow...

A Lively Little Jig for Ya!
2008-03-10 03:45:00
I'm an aerobics NUT! I'm always out here trying to find the next thing aerobic. Aerobic striptease, aerobic tennis, gospel aerobics, jail house aerobics, aerobic cooking, aerobic dog sledding....Hey, what 'cha got? I'll try it at least once!I stumbled across this cute little video of aerobic Irish dancing, and just in time for St. Patrick's Day! How about that?! It's definitely a few minutes of fun, and you WILL break a sweat from the jumping. I ran it and did it twice in a row. Do it 3 times and you've got a good little bit of cardio in for the day, for sure.I do, however, have a question. Anybody... What is the deal with the non movement of the arms in Irish dancing? I actually started to add my own arm movements to the routine, because I'm so used to moving ALL of my body when dancing or exercising. So... What's the legend, rule, tradition, reason, etc, for keeping your arms stiffly down by your sides when doing this type of dance? Come on, you smarties, I kno...
Spring Tune Up
2008-03-05 23:16:00
It's already March!! Crazy, isn't it? So, spring is just a couple weeks away, basically. Funny thing is, with this eerily warm weather we've been having lately, you won't have to wait long before the overcoats, sweaters and outer layers are all gone. There will be no more hiding those belly rolls! If you haven't already, now is the time to really get your exercise program in gear.Start small, so you don't overwhelm yourself. A 30 to 45 minute jog, run, bike, or swim 3 x a week, or pop in an exercise DVD that you like and DO IT! Once again, 3 times a week is what you'll need to commit to to make a difference. After you get into the swing of things, start to add more time to the activity, or add a couple more workouts to your schedule. And be sure to include some weight training in your plan. The first couple times out will be hard, but tough it out, and do it.You'll feel so much better afterwards.Start getting your fitness on now, and there'll be nothing to hide when th...

Addicted to History...
2008-02-29 00:24:00
One thing you don't know about me. I can just sit and watch the History and Military channels all day long. I don't know why. I used to hate this stuff back in school, but now that I don't have to learn it, I love it. I've seen the Vietnam War chronicles, the Cold War, WW's I and II, the Iraq wars, the Civil War Reenactments, the Civil Rights Movement (yes, that was a war!) a few times over. I especially love when they do reenactments and stories of Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Shaka Zulu and all the ancient empires. Basically, stories of the way the world was won. I eat that stuff up like cereal! Any war story that's been captured on film, including non US involved wars, I've seen it. For some reason this all interests me to no end. I don't know why. I used to be addicted to Court TV's crime shows, but after seeing them all a few thousand times, I think I'm good.Right now I'm watching the Nuremberg Trials that occurred after the WWII. After this, comes on...

Exercise for the Brain
2008-02-27 15:52:00
Okay, you can't just be this fabulous, fit, tuned up like a fast car body with a limp brain. Gotta exercise the mind as well, okay? So here's a little smorgasbord of brain teasers to stimulate the old brain cells and take them out for a jog.Figure them out, and answer in the comments section. Try not to peek at anyone else's answers. Be sure to answer in the correct order (1,2,3,4,5). I will give the answers in a couple days. Some might seem easy, but careful! They could be trickier than you think! Have fun!1- What object has keys that open no locks, space but no room, and you can enter but not go in?2- What is so fragile that when you say its name you break it?3- Forward I am heavy, backwards I am not.  What am I?4- What can run but never walks,   has a mouth but never talks,  has a head but never weeps,  has a bed but never sleeps?5- What do bullet proof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers, and laser printers  all have in common?

All Gone Now...
2008-02-27 07:01:00
...and it barely even took 3 days. The snow has completely vanished. Oh well, I guess I'll have to go to Vermont again to experience temporary snow blindness! lolAnother snowboard weekend is coming up soon, and dude, I am SO stoked! lol. Yeah, I know. I just think snowboard lingo is so cute! I'm using phrases like "shred the nar", and it's cool, cause it's like this secret language that only other winter sport people use and know. Well, some of it is used by skateboarders too, since when you think about it, there are quite a few similarities between skate and snowboarding.Anyways, I'm up for the next trip. The sucky thing is there is such a short season for snowboarding, and this damn crazily warm winter is making it even shorter. Snowboarders and skiiers are hitting the mountains on back to back weekends like chain smokers. Some are taking days off in the middle of the week to find some precious powder. Sucking it up like the last drops of soda in a can. Junkies itch...
And Finally, Some Snow!
2008-02-22 19:21:00
Yay! It's about damn time. I mean, this winter has been so schizo...60 degree days, followed by rain showers and then a cold day here and there. It has tried to snow a couple times before, but the weather has been so warm in New York this winter that it has never been able to stick for more than a day. Well, not today, baby! We've now got us some snow!I don't know why this makes me so happy. But it does! ;)It's not like I get to stay home from work or anything. lol. But until it gets trampled over and all peed on by the dogs, it's gorgeous!

Keeping the Creativity Flowing...
2008-02-21 22:38:00
Now that my writer bug is on full tilt, it seems other aspects of my need to create are kicking in as well. I'm presently trying to work on a completely new class format that's just more kick ass than anything I've ever done. I've been experimenting with my class members (my favorite little lab bunnies) by changing up the formats from some of my classes. They have alot to look forward to in the next upcoming month or so. lolSee, I think that no matter how well you do something, after a while it can still get a little stale if you don't look into ways to take it to the next level, or even just flip it completely. I'm sure that just about everything that's doable in fitness has been done, but that being said, you can still find a way to add your own personal twist to something. Also, now that I'm snowboarding, that has served to make me think more about how I'm training my body. Lot's of ideas about core training and fluidity come to mind when I'm brainstorming. I don...

Blatant Plagiarism!!
2008-02-20 16:02:00
So, I log on today, and decide to do key word searches on Google to see when and on what page my articles, posts, etc show up. Just a thing I do to see how well my SEO is working. Well, don't cha know, by doing this I found out that another blogger on Google just stole one of my posts, changed a few words around and has not given me the credit for MY hard work on that post! It's an article that I put on my other blog entitiled The Art of Flirting at the Gym". This dolt of a person, copied my article from paragraph to paragraph, and inserted their own bad grammar, substituted a few words throughout and didn't even bother to post a link to my blog where they found it. I am livid! That article was the result of my brainstorming, my writing, my editing and of course, my own personal view on the subject. How DARE people do that! I went on their blog and told them that what a talentless hack they must be to have to steal other people's work, and that they need to take it down....

Does the Carmen Electra Strip Aerobics Video Work?
2008-02-18 19:02:00
Well, I decided to give it a whirl, and I must say, I did work up a sweat. And it was damn fun, to boot. Nothing like exercising your sexy, ya know? She also has a section on one of the videos where she does a chair strip routine, and man, that is definitely some work. All in all, this is a great video to add to your collection for something a little off the beaten path. Be careful, though. Because after you do all that teasing, you might need someone to unleash all that sexual energy on! Be sure to have someone handy! ;)This is but a sample of the vid. It gets more intense as you go on.

I've been watching the dance competition show "America's Best Dance Crew", and let me tell you, there are some incredibly talented, ridiculously acrobatic dancers on the show competing for the $100,000 prize. Being a skater, of course I'm favoring the crew named Break Sk8, because they're pretty good, and I like their concept of melding break dancing with skate dancing. It's pretty fierce. And need I say, you have to be in mad, crazy shape to be able to pull off these antics? Check it out:I'm lovin' the straddle split on skates. Wicked! Here I'm gonna give props to MTV and post their link to the first two entire episodes, just in case you want to see all the dance crews. Great stuff here!America's Best Dance Crew

Grown Women Do NOT Fall Apart at the Sight of a Teddy Bear!!!
2008-02-11 18:21:00
UGH!!! The next time I see another one of those ridiculous Vermont Teddy Bear ads that they're running for Valentine's day, I'm gonna vomit!!You know the ones; a woman receives her 'gift' in front of her co workers and opens it, and then these waaayy over the top 'oooooohs', 'aaaaahhhhs' and 'OOOOHHHHHS' ensue. The women totally LOSE it, and go on and ON about how damn cute the bear is and WHAT A GUY this man must be that gave it to her. PUH-LEEZE!!! You'd think she'd just opened up a box with a 5 carat diamond in it, the reaction is so over the top! The entire office loses its damn mind, and guys from surrounding cubicles then rush to a phone to dial up and get a bear for THEIR woman so they can get that same reaction when they get home. Yeah, sure...um hmmmm.Another one shows all types of folks posing with these bears, holding onto them like little life rafts keeping them afloat on some invisible sea of love. In the background, some smarmy song written just for the ...

Can You Say "Videophilia"?
2008-02-08 19:39:00
videophilia -The new human tendency to focus on sedentary activities involving electronic mediaThere have been several studies recently, focusing on how much more time we're spending interacting with electronic media such as TV and the internet compared with how much time we spend doing outdoor activities, and the results are pretty grim.It seems that as a society we are spending less and less time in the great outdoors, doing things like biking, camping, fishing, hiking, etc than we are watching TV, playing video games and hanging out online. This is undoubtedly a direct contributor to the obesity epidemic that's plaguing the USA right now. Are you surprised? I'm not. Heck, we're being videophiles right now as we speak, as you sit here reading this, not to mention the time I spent writing it.So, you can say that while our society has advanced in areas of technology, electronic media, and invention, we're also slipping and losing some of the old skills we once had.You have t...

I missed the Giants Superbowl Parade this morning because I had to work! I'm so pissed! I'da been there with blue, white and red paint on, like, "What?!". Seriously! But I guess somebody had to keep the rest of the city running! We're all still basking in the glow of this great win, and talking trash by the minute. You know how we New Yorkers do! ;) Hey, bragging rights are sweet. We're gonna ride 'em til the wheels fall off! ;)Meanwhile, back down on earth, we are experiencing some freakishly warm weather for January! I tried to wear a down jacket today, and ended up sweating my butt off! To tell the truth, this really is getting scary. I have lived in New York my whole life and have never seen weather like this. January is usually bitingly cold. You shouldn't be able to walk around with your coat hanging open. And a very light coat, at that. WTH is up with the global warming? Is it accelerating that fast? We'd better do something quick, folks. In the end, it's...

Super Bowl, Baby!
2008-01-31 04:14:00
So, my Giants have made it to the big dance, and now my most urgent task at hand this very moment is figuring out where my friends and I are gonna watch the game. I must admit, I've fallen off a bit with football, but from way back I have always been a huge fan. I just have so much going on now that I don't have time to watch all the games anymore. I used to love the Philadelphia Eagles, the Pittsburgh Steelers, my poor NY Jets, and of course, my boys in blue, the Giants. I used to hate the 49ers and the Cowboys, because they were our main rivals. This was back in Joe Montana/Jerry Rice days. Lawrence Taylor, Deion Sanders, Randall Cunningham and Warren Moon. They were also my faves. I have screamed my throat out at many a playoff game, rooting for my guys to get in. Now, I get to do it all again this Sunday. I soon as I find a 'bowl worthy bar......In the meantime, GO GIANTS!!!!

Winter X Dreams...
2008-01-27 23:10:00
It's another lazy Sunday for me, and after watching my boy Novak Djokovic win his first Australian Open against Muhammad Ali's twin, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, I'm now snuggled up on my couch watching the Winter X Games. As I watch the competitors fly trough the air on skis, snowmobiles and snowboards at back breaking speeds, I feel like I missed my calling. lol My parents should have gotten me some ski lessons, dammit! I can so see myself out on the track hanging tough with the best skiers in the world, beating each of them one by one.....Ok...enough with my fantasies. Back to reality! Haaaaaaaa. Had you there for a minute! I do think the Winter X competitors are awesome with their aerial spins, big air jumps, twists, flips and 1080's, though. That shizzle is bad ass!As I sit here, I fight off the urge to indulge myself in some fatty comfort food. I try to put a limit on those cravings. My naughty no no of the week was a pint of Haagen Dazs Dulce de Leche. Damn!, that's so...

"That Snowboarding Afterglow"
2008-01-22 21:28:00
Now that I'm back on snowless land, I find myself missing the slopes. That snowboard weekend I just had was awesome, and I am now thinking and plotting on how I can be so much better the next time I go out. I know not to try to rush it, but I'm so used to being good at things, and I guess it's just natural for me to almost overthink things in my attempt to achieve that. So, I'm happy to say, I get my second crack at shredding some mountains in just a couple weeks. Yep, already booked the next trip. So, I've been out here checking out various snowboarding sites and blogs, checking on how to learn and master certain techniques. Here's a great tutorial on doing those turns:http://www.wikihow.com/Perform-a-Ca rve-on-a-SnowboardNow, let's just hope all that theory turns into reality the next time I'm out there! ;)SnowboardDiva.comJust a few of the things I dream about doing......Yeah, I'm crazy, but I told you that already, right? ;)

So, I step up into one of my company clubs to teach my usual Wednesday classes, and I notice that there is now a bright orange flyer posted on the glass doors and windows around the studio. "Getting Ready for Skiing and Snowboarding Training", it read. I'm like, WTH?Hmmmmm.....has some trainer in my co been reading my blog?? Coincidence? Or am I just being paranoid? I can't help but to think about the post I did: "Getting Ready for the Slopes Workout", posted about a week ago. My company, while having a full time schedule of fitness classes with everything from Yoga to Tae Kwon Do, and also an army of personal trainers some 5,000 + strong, is always encouraging us (trainers and instructors) to create "small group training" classes. I wonder if one of my co workers stumbled across my blog and the suddenly formed his/her bright idea to create that class. The Ten Fattest
2008-01-15 22:02:00
I love this time of the year, because that's when all the list wizards come out with their best and worst lists of everything you can imagine. This list of the 10 fattest states in America caught my eye. Not too many surprises here to me, but props to Pennsylvania for dropping off the list. I distinctly remember when they had Philadelphia listed as the fattest city in the country. Been working out, Philly? ;)The Ten Fattest States in America1 Mississippi2 Alabama3 West Virginia4 Louisiana5 Tennessee6 South Carolina7 Kentucky8 Arkansas9 Michigan10 IndianaNow, I can't help but notice that most of those are southern states, and I must tell you, I'm not surprised. Not to insult my southern neighbors, but I know a little bit about southern lifestyle since my family is from the south. There is just less activity, more fattening things to eat, and walking is virtually non existent in places like this, because you go everywhere by car.
