1. I woke up with two boys in my bed on Sunday morning.2. Matthew decided at 8am that we had to set the alarm in my purse for 10am. Brilliant, except Lukas had to touch my cell phone every five minutes. ?Button. Dots. Numbers.? And each time, ?Alarm clock wake up up us!?3. The Magic Three ? Tomas, Selena, Izzy ? helped shorten a long day until someone else arrived to take my place.

It was a musical journée.1. I left the variety store with ?Rocket Man? by Elton John in my head. 2. Taken over later in the day by Coldplay?s beautiful ?Swallowed in the Sea.?3. Followed by a foreigner on the train, luggage in tow, playing ukulele for me.? Like, rudely interrupted by two women! ? Which actually classified as More Free Entertainment. Just closed my eyes and grinned . . .4. . . . because in the space of 15 minutes, I counted at least 107 ?likes? in their conversation (not including those drowned out by other sounds). It was unreal.

As I sit down late at night on the train, another Julia lunges at me out of nowhere. We decide to hop off at Dundas West station to get a snack at McDonald's. Now, I avoid the golden arches like I do my growing waistline, but this place is special.I don't believe there is another McDonald's like it anywhere. [Are there any other 24hr subway take-out locations?] Sitting at one of the most interesting junctions of the city, you can't get a better pulse of Toronto. It is perfect. It is live urban theatre.

1. Public Service. At the platform, the train doors did a beautiful demi-plié just for me, as the conductor assisted me in my efforts to fly into that subway car.2. Special Service. At several make-up counters, free samples on request. You don?t get them if you don?t ask (as my friend Carlos has now witnessed while keeping me company on my errands, which is really a special service in itself).3. Customer Service. At a large office supply store, a service rep went out of his way to look for the golf pencils I wanted; an online service rep went out of her way to do the same.

Later That Night: Met two guys at the streetcar stop, so we shared a cab to the subway. Torontonians need to do this more often: it saves money and it's social.3. Really Late Night: Didn't need to hop in another taxi, as I saw a bus going my way. Riding Toronto buses by night puts me in touch with the city.
