What a morning!
2007-11-15 11:03:00 Good moods don’t last long in the morning! The daughter decided this morning that she didn’t want to eat her breakfast from the safety of her own chair. Oh no, she wanted to try every seat around the dining room table - it was like an annoying version of Goldilocks and the three bears. I ... More About: Morning
Say Daddy - ?Mammy?
2007-11-14 12:09:00 The daughter is refusing to say Daddy and it has actually become a bit of a joke with her. She’s been saying “Mammy” for a long time now but every time we say to her “say Daddy” she smirks and says “Mammy”. We made the mistake of laughing and now she refuses to acknowledge her creator! ...

Strictly Come Dancing
2007-11-13 14:42:00 We are addicted to Strict ly Come Dancing in our house - even the daughter loves it! She swirls and turns around, she’s quite good - obviously she gets that from me! I can’t believe the natural rhythm my child has. I said to her on Saturday “OK, two choices - ballet or tap”. That was ... More About: Strictly Come Dancing

I?m so excited
2007-11-09 00:00:00 Oh, and I just can’t hide it (remember the song) Well, after months and months the bosses have finally decided to let me have my very own blog! You know what this means? Yes, I can buy my Christmas presents safe in the knowledge that I will obviously be in paid employment for December! Anyway, we ... More About: Excite

Stresses and strains
2007-09-13 11:47:00 Do any other Mums out there ever feel like they're invisible and slightly undervalued? I used to earn a really good wage but I turned my back on it to raise my child. I had a great opportunity to still work so I went with it. My decision was made easier by the inflexible nature of my previous employers and I realised that if I went back I would hardly ever see the daughter. The majority of time I adore my work/life balance and I really wouldn't swap it but I sometimes feel like some people forget that I do have qualifications, I did have a good career - I am an educated woman. I'm not bragging but I just feel like now I'm seen as a Mum and nobody ever asks my opinion or says I'm doing a good job. More About: TRAI
Toddler group
2007-09-12 16:00:00 I took the daughter to a new toddler group yesterday - it was brilliant and attached to the school I'd ideally like her to attend. She had a brilliant time but she'd been there before. She was the one showing me the way! This whole school situation is so strange. People move to get into a good school or they suddenly convert to Catholicism or start going to church on a Sunday. I can understand why parents do these things - and to a certain extent the husband and I are no better when getting the daughter into our chosen playgroup/school. The sad thing is though, all schools should be of a high standard but they're just not. More About: Group , Toddler
Laugh or love?
2007-09-06 11:18:00 I think the internet phenomenon has slightly passed me by. I say this because although I email regularly and look into forums, I haven't been getting the true meaning of everything. So, this is how I realised I was a middle-aged Mummy! I'd been emailing a friend back and forth throughout the day and I wrote something and she replied - "LOL". I was slightly perplexed but thought it was lovely that she was sending me "Lots of Love ". I emailed her back "Lots of Love to you too". It was at that point I was told what LOL actually means - Laugh Out Loud! How stupid did I feel?
Mother's love
2007-09-05 11:10:00 Does Mum know best or does Grandma - that is the question? I think over this question because the Grandma and I are at a crossroads - we can't agree on disciplining the daughter. The husband and I don't agree with smacking - the Grandma is happy to go along with our wishes BUT she keeps saying that it never did us any harm. How does she know? Maybe I would've been a completely different character if I didn't have the odd smack. Who knows, I could have more confidence, I could've got into more trouble or less - you just don't know. I never really got into much trouble as a child but it wasn't because I didn't want a smack, I just didn't want to disappoint my parents. There's just something in my character that doesn't want to lert people down - including myself. In addition, I had a group of friends who were "good girls" so maybe that helps to keep you a bit more stable. More About: Love
Frumpy Mummy
2007-09-04 15:46:00 How can Angelina Jolie have four children and get away with wearing white? That woman obviously has some incredible Mummy powers. She is even pictured holding them so it's not as if some nanny is getting covered with spit, food and drink. Nice I know - get over it, it happens ALL of the time. Take this morning for instance, I was wearing a brand new top, first time out of the wardrobe and what happens? The daughter kisses me and rubs toothpaste all over it! I should've changed it but who cares - I don't get new clothes very often so it's staying on.
Bank Holidays
2007-08-28 17:28:00 Oh My God, the traffic was just unbelievable this weekend. I think people should just stay in and not bother to go out during bank holiday weekend - it's probably better than sitting in a sweltering car! I went to visit my sister-in-law and new daughter on Friday and as I headed home the cars were back to back - I'm not very patient in those situations either. More About: Holidays , Bank
Mud pies
2007-08-23 10:49:00 The daughter was with her Granny yesterday and she came home absolutely filthy. They'd been making mud pies..and bread apparently. If it was in that order I'm not going anywhere near the bread. She was out most of the day playing in the garden. Summer seems to be upon us but there's a nice breeze too. I always stress about her clothes when it seems sunny. Nine times out of ten, if the day starts bright it's cold by late afternoon and that leaves the daughter shivering in shorts and T-shirt. Smack
2007-08-22 13:29:00 I am in despair - the daughter is smacking. It was just me that she was aiming her chubby fingers at but now it's her little friends too. I picked her up from the childminder and was told that she'd been "testing the boundaries". This is a polite way of saying that she'd been smacking two older girls and snatching their dolls away! I went away from there and I was close to tears. I was imagining her being given an ASBO - the youngest tot in Britain! More About: Smack
Sleeping in
2007-08-16 10:39:00 The daughter slept late this morning - she only ever does it on a day when she's going to the childminder's. I am absolutely convinvced she lies awake thinking that if she doesn't wake us she won't have to go and we'll have a nice family day together - wrong! We ended up running around like headless chickens but when I arrived at the childminder's her son was still in his pyjamas - could've taken my time. Anyway, the daughter went to her quite happily so at least she'll be having a nice day. More About: Sleeping
TV
2007-08-14 11:58:00 The daughter has just started noticing the television - not sure if it's a good or bad thing. Good because it gives me five minutes to grab a coffee, wash some dishes or make tea. It's bad because she is starting to like it a bit to much! Anyway, she loves a new programme called The Night Garden. It's a bit like the Teletubbies but set in a garden and it centres around characters with such interesting monikers as Iggle Piggle and Upsey Daisy. I actually think the husband likes it the most as he can recite all the songs.
Still got it
2007-08-10 11:42:00 Ha! I have just been wolf whistled at by a group of builders. I should be horrified but I'm over the moon. Look at me 31-year-old mother and I've still got it. Of course, at first I thought it wasn't aimed at me but I turned around and sure enough there wasn't anyone else on the road. I should be ashamed of myself, allowing myself to be viewed by macho, sexist builders but I'm not - I'm delighted! I have a spring in my step and it's brightened up my day - so thank you builders, I'll be walking past again later!
Birthday girl
2007-08-09 12:25:00 Not written in here for a while as I've been celebrating my birthday! I am well and truly in my 30s now. It doesn't bother me wither - it's just a number. Honestly I don't care! More About: Girl , Birthday
Bad moods
2007-07-31 16:07:00 The daughter was in a terrible mood last night. The problem is this - she hardly sleeps when she's with the childminder. You'd think this would make her sleep better but it doesn't. If she sleeps badly during the day she is hateful to her Mummy, irritable and always seems to wake up early! She decided to sit on the pavement and refuse to move when we were making our way home. She was in a mood because I wouldn't let her eat any stones! She is always picking them up and trying to stick them in her mouth. She was at her Great Nan's house on Sunday and I told my Nan to watch her with the stones in the garden. My Nan's response - "These stones are clean". I'm not worried about stones Nan, I'm worried about her choking to death! More About: Moods , Mood , Bad Mood
Post
2007-07-30 11:18:00 I was in a panic last night. I was on the phone to one of my best friends - it's her Birthday today and she hadn't received my gift. I was in a spin because I absolutely HATE my friends and family receiving gifts late. I sent it first class and recorded delivery on Thursday so I thought she would've had it by Saturday - no. Anyway, panic is over as she's just called and it has arrived. She loved her gifts - especially the present from the daughter - she picked it out herself you know and she's not quite 18 months old yet. Do I sound like a proud Mummy? More About: Post
In love
2007-07-26 14:15:00 The daughter is in love. She absolutely adores the childminder's son. I dropped her off this morning and she wrapped her little arms around him - it was so sweet to see. They then toddled off and sat on the stairs together. Anwyay, I hope she's having a better day than me. I am embroiled in a row with the bank as we speak and I could just scream! More About: Love
Busy weekend
2007-07-24 11:23:00 We've been fairly busy over the weekend - despite the rain! We went to Tatton Park flower show in Cheshire on Sunday. It was lovely but by the time we got ourselves organised we arrived far to late. It was ridiculous. It had been open from 10 and we arrived around 2!! I have such trouble motivating the husband. We'd been delaying because of the rain but once we arrived in Cheshire it was quite sunny. The gardens were beautiful and the daughter was having a lovely time but in the midst of it all the heavens opened. That's when the trouble started! We had to get her back in the pushchair and she did not like it one bit. More About: Weekend , Busy
Dying
2007-07-18 14:15:00 I'm worried I might be dying. Just hear me out. I was at home having my lunch yesterday and I got a call from a very persistent salesman who wanted me to write a will. I told him I had one and he kept going on and on about it. Did I know where it was? Do other people know where it is? Does it need updating|? I told him our number was ex-directory and I was going but he carried on and on! He made me feel strange and I said to the husband. "Do you think he had some inside information on me?" His reply - "Who do you think you were talking to, God!". More About: Dying
Cheeky girl
2007-07-17 11:45:00 The daughter is so cheeky. She points at everything - which she must get from me. Isn't it scary when you realise the things that you do? The other day she pinched me so I told her off. Ten minutes later she came over to me, draped her arm around my shoulder, kissed me and said "Aaaahh". Like I was her mate. Where's the respect? I'm her Mummy. She's a monkey but I love that she's now getting her own little character - so sweet. More About: Girl
Another day
2007-07-12 13:19:00 The daugher has started doing the strangest thing. She wakes at around 3.30 in the morning, shouts Mum a few times and laughs as though she's wide awake but then she does go back off to sleep. I'm left in a state of paralysis underneath the duvet cover, wondering if she is going to start screaming or just forget about it. So far she's forgotten about it.
Caring panic
2007-07-11 16:36:00 The childminder mentioned she isn't taking on any more children and she's taking a pregnancy vitamin supplement. I'm jumping to conclusions now but looks to me like she's trying for a baby! I am over the moon for her but the selfish part of me has been left wondering where that will leave us! She is so lovely with the daughter and she has come on so much. Personally, I think it's been much better than nursery but what if she has to go back? Aaaahhh. More About: Panic
Single Mum
2007-07-10 13:51:00 I am a single Mum in pretty much all but sleeping arrangements. I feel like the daughter and I do everything on our own lately because the husband is always working. I know he has to bring in the money but I am becoming increasingly annoyed. The husband will do things occasionally as a family but try and get him to go out with other people and he is a complete and utter grumpy old man and it is doing my head in. Shall we go to such and such's party? "I hardly know them," he replies. Fancy doing this with our friends? "I'm working," he replies. Do you want to spend any quality time with us? Do you know what is really annoying - he always thinks he's right, he won't bend at all and then he complains that the daughter doesn't want to go to him. I tell you why Mr Grumpy pants - for the past few nights she's been put to bed by me and hardly seen you. More About: Single
Early call
2007-07-05 11:39:00 We had an early morning wake up call from the daughter today and so we are both shattered - a number of cups of coffee have already been drank. Well, what harm can it do? I know plenty - shut up! I'm not sure what disturbed her but it was very windy last night. All I know is that when I went into her room at 2.30am she was waving at me and saying "Hiya". I think the little Madam wanted to get up and play. No way lady! It's all birth and bereavement stories in our household at the moment. We are awaiting three births - we know one's a boy, one's a girl and the third is a 50/50 chance of being either. On top of that a close friend of mine is in a terrible state because her Dad is seriously ill. More About: Early , Call , Earl
Strange weather
More articles from this author:2007-07-04 15:13:00 Isn't this weather really strange? One minute I'm wrestling the daughter into her rain coat and trying to find the rain cover for her pram and the next thing the sun is out. I just can't decide if the clothes should be out on the line or still inside the washing machine. The work of an indecisive mother never gets any easier. It rained yesterday but the evening was so warm that we went outside to play on the grass. More About: Weather , Strange , Range , Tran 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |
