Lawsuit Funding
2008-05-11 19:20:00 I know from experience that lawsuits can take a long time to complete, even when you win or receive settlement. Waiting for the money can be a problem, especially if you are unable to work! Luckily there are companies, like fundmycase.com, that offer litigation funding that advances you your monies. They even agree to share the risk with you, asking for no payments until your case settles. If there is no recovery, you keep our investment and owe nothing!Tags: litigation funding, settlement loans, fundmycase.com, lynda lippin More About: Lawsuit , Funding
Book Review - The Eat-Clean Diet
2008-05-11 19:15:00 The Eat-Clean Diet : Fast Fat-Loss That Lasts Forever! sounded to me like a perfect diet book. Before I even saw the book I googled author Tosca Reno, who at 46 is a fitness model, writes a column for Oxygen magazine, has written several books, and looks fabulous. Reno's story is remarkable.Born in Ontario, Reno was raised in a healthy eating home. Lots of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables - very little sugar and processed foods. She was fine through high school, but found in college that the more that was going on in her life the worse her eating habits became, and they stayed that way through the birth of her three daughters. Suddenly at 40 Reno weighed over 200 pounds and needed to get her life back under control. So she began Eating Clean and exercising, lost the weight, and as she puts it, "I got the body I thought only "Hard Bodies" could own."This sounds good so far, and the claims on the book's cover sound even better: "Fast FAT LOSS that lasts forever!" "Never go hungry... More About: Book Review , Review , Book
Identity Theft
2008-05-11 19:08:00 It's mind boggling to think about how easy it really is to have your identity stolen. I mean, we put our social security and account numbers on so many forms in so many places, and in reality we really trust every person who receives this information to keep it secure for us.I have watched people leave their credit cards in stores, walk around with unsigned cards (which makes it easy for anyone to steal it, sign it, and use it with a matching signature), and generally seem to not care about this information. Until, of course, you suddenly get turned down for a loan or have your credit locked because someone is out there ruining your life with those numbers. This is where a service such as lifelock can come in handy. For a fee they will handle watching and securing your information so that you truly don't have to worry. They can help you clear things up after identity theft and prevent it from happening. Book Review - The Bestiary
2008-05-11 18:57:00 "The first beast I laid eyes on was my father." Xeno Atlas is obsessed. He is obsessed with his dead mother, with his emotionally and physically distant father who blames Xeno for his mother's death, with his very much alive shape-shifting Sicilian grandmother, and with animals both real and imaginary. The protagonist of Nicholas Christopher's new and anxiously awaited novel, The Bestiary, Atlas' obsessions focus themselves into his lifelong academic search for the long lost Caravan Bestiary, a record of all of the animals created, including those that did not make it onto Noah's Ark.As a boy growing up in the Bronx Xeno Atlas (his Cretan father tells him he was named after the Greek word "xenos," or stranger; while his Italian mother saw him as her "xenium," or gift) has a hard time finding his place in the world. With no real connection to his family and very few good friends, he defines his world in terms of animals. "I felt the spirits of animals. In the instants of enter... My Best Summer Vacation
2008-05-11 18:43:00 While it may seem a bit out of season, my best summer vacation was a trip I took to Turks & Caicos in the summer of 2005 with my husband Tony. The minute the plane landed in Providenciales I was already relieved and relaxed to be away, and the beautiful turquoise water surrounding the island helped. If you follow my blog at all you know that it was on that trip that we received job offers and made our momentous life altering move out of the United States. Now we are planning another trip and I have checking flights & locations at dialaflight.com. Hmmm, perhaps a flight to Dubai and some touring around the United Arab Emirates? Could be interesting.Tags: Turks and Caicos, Providenciales, Caribbean, dubai, travel, lynda lippin More About: Summer , Vacation
Book Review - The Devil's Right Hand
2008-05-11 18:34:00 The Devil's Right Hand is the third book in what is currently a five-book series chronicling the life and times of Dante (Danny) Valentine, necromancer, bounty hunter, and demon lover. The tales take place primarily in Saint City on Earth in the distant future after the Awakening, an event that activated numerous psions and others with supernatural abilities as well as bringing Hell and its denizens to Earth.I have read many vampire and magic fantasy series including Anne Rice's ubiquitous "Lestat" series and Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake Vampire Hunter" books, and while I don't mind reading an entire series of books I like, it is also nice to have the individual novels stand alone so one can read them out of order and still follow what's happening. These are books that work by themselves but are deepened when read in order with the series. If you have not read the first two Dante Valentine novels, Working For the Devil and Dead Man Rising, don't even open The Devil's Ri... Book Review - Certain Girls
2008-05-09 17:10:00 I love all things Jennifer Weiner. I am Jewish, in my early 40s, lived much of my adult life in Philadelphia and its suburbs, write for part of my living, and have had my share of failed and often comical relationships - culminating in my current 15 year marriage to a man who I cannot imagine being without. Weiner's first novel, Good In Bed, and this latest one, Certain Girls , are written from the voice of Philadelphia Jewish girl, writer, mother, and wife Cannie Shapiro.Since we left her, Cannie has published a best-selling fictionalized sexually-charged version of her life (which she tries to hide, taking the plebian job of ghost writing science fiction novels at a steady salary), marries a diet doctor Peter Krushelevansky, and settles down to raise her daughter Joy. As Joy nears her bat mitzvah she discovers her mother's novel, cannot separate fact from fiction, and goes on her personal mission to discover her identity while at the same time Peter decides he wants to have anot... Book Review - Madison Avenue Maxi
2008-05-09 13:23:00 Having a dog is no easy task. They require a lot of work and personal interaction — talking, walking, bathing, grooming, and just plain old loving — dogs need their people as much as people need their dogs. I always considered myself a cat person. I grew up with Mittens, our family tabby who died at the old age of 12, and since then have adopted several cats that I watched get old and finally leave the mortal coil. When we moved to Turks & Caicos I brought three cats with me from the states. So when my husband, who moved a few months before me, started talking about this stray potcake who kept following him home smiling all the way, my first response was, "Please just don't feed it!" We had a disastrous dog adoption experience once and I did not want to repeat that ever again. Long story short, suffice it to say that Smiley's picture graces my Blackberry, we keep a supply of treats on the kitchen counter, and I now understand the "dog thing".Elke & Ben Gazzara happened into t... My Blog Was Denied!
2008-05-09 12:52:00 Oh, the horror! I tend not to do a lot of social web stuff, as it just gets tiresome for me. But since I already do business with Izea through PayPerPost, I decided to give their Social Spark beta site a try after receiving many invitations. So I go, I wait forever for pages to load and have to deal with many "friend" requests and lots of graphics, and then they DENY MY BLOG! Why, you might ask? Because they said my blog "appeared to exist only for paid posts and affiliate links."Now, I wish I got paid for all of my blogrolls and links, but alas only a small portion of this lovely creation is paid for by others. Oh well. It almost makes me pissed off enough to quit PPP, but they do pay quite well and are easier to deal with.Wait, should I not say that? Will they think it's a sponsored post? AAAARGH!Tags: Blog , Lynda Lippin, marketing, Pay Per Post, izea, social spark, lynda lippin
Make Healthier Restaurant Choices
2008-05-08 22:35:00 If you, like most people, are still rendered nutritionally clueless when you walk into a chain restaurant (I mean, how could the taco salad possibly have more fat and calories than a burger and fries?), I just received announcement of a free new service that will have us all eating healthily at Boston Market, Bob Evans, and Taco Bell (or at least knowing that we could make better choices).Wellsphere just announced the launch of Wellternatives – their new free healthy eating service that recommends healthy alternatives for your favorite dishes at hundreds of thousands of chain restaurants. They designed it so that you can actually use your cell phone (as well as your wireless web, blackberry, or iphone) to receive suggested ‘Wellternatives’ along with calorie and nutrition information for free while you are standing in line. You’ve probably heard about how the restaurant chains all over the country are battling with government officials to keep from having to post their nutri... More About: Restaurant , Make , Choices

More Weird Weight Loss Science
2008-05-07 18:32:00 Science has done it again! Now altering an enzyme in the brain can contribute to weight loss. Duke University scientists, in studies in mice, blocked the enzyme CaMKK2 in mice and then measured food intake. Sure enough, the mice with the block ate less and lost weight!'"Remarkably, we find that blocking CaMKK2 in the brain prevents the deposits of fat in liver and skeletal muscle that are characteristic of obese, diabetic patients," said Dr Tony Means."We find this very exciting and are trying to understand the mechanism responsible for this protective effect, as well as to identify more potent drugs to inhibit CaMKK2."'OY!Tags: weight loss, Diet, News, lynda lippin More About: Science , Weird , Weight Loss , Weight , Loss
Unbiased Diet Pill Reviews
2008-05-06 17:32:00 There are so many diet pills on the market that it is pretty scary and obviously daunting for consumers. Now, regular readers know that I espouse the virtues of good diet and exercise for long term weight loss, but I also know for a fact that many of you seek to ignore me completely and take pills anyway. If you must take pills for weight loss, then at least read some reviews of them before laying out a chunk of change on something that can be ineffective, has bad side effects, or can make you sick.Tags: diet pills, weight loss, lynda lippin More About: Reviews , Diet
Lesley Powell on Pilates and the Shoulders
2008-05-06 17:07:00 Lesley Powell of Movements Afoot Pilates in NYC is a great friend and a fabulous Pilates teacher. I have learned a lot over the years from working with her and I refer most of my New York Parrot Cay Pilates guests to continue their work at her studio. She has written a truly informative article for Pilates Pro, Freeing the Shoulders to Connect to the Core, which begins with a pretty contentious statement,“'Push your shoulders down.'”We hear that phrase frequently in Pilates studios, but I say it’s time to throw that cue out. Why? For most people, pressing the shoulders down freezes the shoulder girdle’s function and interrupts its natural rhythm."If you're a Pilates teacher who uses that cue and wonders why your client's shoulders remain tight and stuck, or you are a Pilates student who would like better and looser shoulder function, read this article today! I have changed my cuing since working with Lesley and others over the years and me and my clients are all the b...
Free Music Downloads (not for Mac)
2008-05-05 19:15:00 I was pretty excited when heard about MP3 Rocket, a new site offering software that allows users access to free music downloads and movie downloads. So I went right over to download their Free Basic program and see what it was like.Normally companies that offer downloadable software specify what system you need somewhere on the download page. This was not listed on either the MP3 rocket site or on their secure C-Net download page. It turns out that the free software is a windows only .exe file, and since I have a pre-Intel imac that is just out of the question. Now, here's where things get interesting. I went to cancel the download and was immediately brought to a live chat box where I was offered upgrades (paid, of course) to the service. When I wrote back my mac compatibility dilemma I was immediately transferred to a different page, offering me Mac and ipod compatible software, but for $30 (on sale, of course). Suddenly, with a mac, no Free Basic software for downloads. My t... More About: Music , Downloads , Free Music

2008-05-05 19:04:00 I thought it couldn't get much worse in the Pilates market until I saw this Pilates Joe franchise opportunity in my google alert! So what do they have to say?"Pilates Joe - Bringing Quality Pilates to the Masses.Until now, Pilates students had to make a choice - either join group Pilates classes for a watered-down version of true Pilates instruction or pay US$50 to US$100 per hour for quality, one-on-one Pilates mentoring. Pilates Joe gives its franchisees the opportunity to offer Pilates instruction that's truly the best of both worlds - dynamic, interactive group Pilates sessions with one-on-one attention from certified Pilates Joe instructors. Finally, A Critic of Winsor Pilates
2008-05-04 18:40:00 OK, many of my long term readers and friends know my feelings about Mari Winsor. She has sold out, put her name out there endorsing every piece of crap form of pilates-esque home exercise equipment and pumps out millions of injury producing DVDs to the unsuspecting masses. Worse, her name is out there so much that people who don't know much about Pilates assume that all Pilates is Winsor Pilates (yuck!). Basically, Winsor Pilates is Bad Pilates! So I was thrilled to open my google alert one day and see the headline, Winsor Pilates not for everyone. I quote,"Two years ago, I saw Daisy Fuentes, former star of "America's Funniest Videos," advertise on television the Winsor Pilates' FatBurning Program.Daisy is so beautiful, she could probably sell me a bridge. I was 58 years old. It had been a long time since I had bench-pressed 300 pounds. I have had surgeries and other health issues. Orchids in the Trees
2008-05-02 18:27:00 I love orchids but have never been able to maintain them. I either overkill them with love, care, and water, or it was just too darn cold in Philadelphia. The climate in Turks & Caicos, however, being all tropical, is perfect for orchids. My husband started a program of orchid preservation and growth here on Parrot Cay involving tying the plants to trees around the property to allow them to root and bloom with plenty of natural sun and water. Here you see two plants behind the spa that just bloomed, one red & one yellow. Aren't they great? It is to do with my pelvis and I need to become more flexible, so I am thinking about taking up Pilates and there are other things which can help me."I know what needs to be done and I need some time away from football and I will get that in the summer, so hopefully I will come back stronger." Trainers Face Off About Abs
2008-04-28 17:23:00 Photo of L.A.’s high-profile personal trainers Sebastien Lagree and Brad Bose by Allen J. Schaben/Los Angeles TimesThe LA Times has a very interesting article entitled 2 Takes on 6-Packs where they interview personal trainers Sebastien Lagree (trained Ben Stiller for his role as an action hero in the upcoming summer spoof "Tropic Thunder.") and Brad Bose (helped Robert Downey Jr. put on 20 pounds of muscle in five months for the just released "Iron Man.") about how men can improve their abs.My favorite lines:"Which area are men most concerned about improving?Lagree: It's all about abs. My clients don't want to bulk up because they wear designer dress shirts. They need to fit into a slim-cut Dolce & Gabbana suit.
