The Hidden Hazards of Microwave Cooking
2007-05-01 17:03:00 This about microwave hazards was written by Anthony Wayne and Lawrence Newell. This article was found on health-science.com The Hidden Hazards of Micro wave Cook ing by Anthony Wayne and Lawrence Newell Is it possible that millions of people are ignorantly sacrificing their health in exchange for the convenience of microwave ovens? Why did the Soviet Union ban the use of microwave ovens in 1976? Who invented microwave ovens, and why? The answers to these questions may shock you into throwing your microwave oven in the trash. Over 90% of American homes have microwave ovens used for meal preparation. Because microwave ovens are so convenient and energy efficient, as compared to conventional ovens, very few homes or restaurants are without them. In general, people believe that whatever a microwave oven does to foods cooked in it doesn’t have any negative effect on either the food or them. Of course, if microwave ovens were really harmful, our government would never allow them on t... More About: King

Honey - Sweet Nectar or Sugar Disaster Waiting for its Payback?
2007-04-27 02:27:00 The Egyptians wrote about it way back in 5500 B.C., the Indians used it for their religious ceremonies in 1000 B.C. and so we ask, “Is honey the sweet nectar of health or a disaster waiting for its payback?”. There are many health claims for honey and even more anecdotal evidences, the Babylonians used it in their medicinal practices. Even Russian beekeepers were known for their longevity, as they not only ate the honey, but all it’s little bits, like propolis and pollen. Propolis and pollen have been found to have anti-cancerous properties. In the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (1948), a study showed that even a small amount of bee pollen had the ability to affect the growth of cancer, larger amounts could slow or halt it entirely! Pollen (in small amounts) is even able to give relief to pollen sufferers. One of honey’s unique properties stems from its predigested nature. The bee’s saliva breaks down the sucrose in the nectar into simple sug... More About: Sugar , Disaster , Sweet , Honey , Back
Celebrity diets - Fast Food?
2007-04-26 03:27:00 Paris Hilton’s more recent trip to In-N-Out may set a trend for more people to enjoy In-N-Outs fast food treats. Paris Hilton’s choice of a burger from In-N-Out may not be as bad as most people think. Let’s take a gander at some of our fast food places and see what can be enjoyed without too much pay back. In-N-Out, although they don’t specifically name ingredients (they do mention they are free of additives, preservatives, etc.), they do seem to have cornered the market for “freshness” & in that vain I have to say that if you’re on the run and there isn’t anything else or you’re absolutely craving it and/or it’s this or starve to death (kind of kidding)—–then a plain burger without cheese is your best bet, hold the fries (too fried & definitely not a healthy option). Moving on to Burger King, besides their recent claim to go more free range (which will not supposedly come into full swing for about a ye... More About: Food , Diets , Celebrity , Fast Food , Fast

Why Free Range meat?
2007-04-23 18:29:00 Free range meat. Most consumers envision animals roaming around, jumping, playing and enjoying life! Isn’t that what all animals do? Why does it have to say “free range”? What’s the big deal with “free range”? Well, here’s the big answer. “Free range” meats are exactly that free range. These animals are aloud to roam free to eat the foods that nature intended for them. “Regular” meat is from animals that are not aloud to roam freely (and treated inhumanely) and are fed foods that they were not meant to eat. (Kind of like making all humans eat junk food & sugar all the time —our bodies wouldn’t be healthy!) Free range is more expensive to produce & therefore the cost is passed on to the consumer. The nutritional value to us is immense! Free range meats have a lot more of the good fats (omega 3) & a lot less of the Omega 6 which most people get too much of and therefore their Omega 3 to Omega 6... More About: Meat , Free , Range

Celebrity diets - Laxatives?
2007-04-19 20:41:00 Celebrity dieting may include laxatives to facilitate weight loss. Celebrities such as Petra Nemcova have openly stated that they have used laxatives in their fight to be ultra thin. How many other celebrities are out there doing the same thing? Do they know what they are doing to their bodies? Laxatives can interfere with Vitamin A absorption—–what does that mean? Vitamin A acts as an antioxidant, protecting the body against pollutants and free radicals, like cancer. Vitamin A stimulates the secretion of gastric juices needed for protein digestion, plays a vital role in building strong bones and rich blood, contributes to the production of RNA. Symptoms of abuse of Laxative’s interfering with Vitamin A absorption: (not limited to these symptoms) acne dry hair dry skin cancer susceptibility eye sties fatigue Aging So for vanity sake—–acne, dry skin, frizzy hair, eye sties & fatigue are NOT attractive! Healthy dieting is a much better option f... More About: Diets , Celebrity

2007-04-19 19:26:00 Anna Nicole Smith’s death was the result of a lethal combination of prescription drugs. There is no evidence that this was an intentional overdose; rather, it was the result of improperly monitored use of drugs she was legally prescribed or purchased over the counter. Most of the drugs were anti-anxiety agents or used to help one sleep, indicating that she may have had severe problems with anxiety or insomnia. What may have tipped the scales, according to coroners, was chloral hydrate, a sleep drug that has been out-of-use for so long that medical examiners don’t routinely screen for it during autopsies. It was prescribed to her by “a friend” and psychiatrist after her son Daniel died last fall. Burger King using free-range animal products?!?!?!
2007-04-19 19:10:00 Burger King is now buying 2 percent of its eggs from producers using cage-free hens and 10 percent of its pork from sources that don’t use sow gestation crates. The company expects those numbers to double at the very least by year’s end, and Burger King has told egg suppliers that it will look favorably on cage-free eggs when making purchasing decisions. Burger King will also give purchasing preference to poultry suppliers that use “controlled atmosphere stunning,” which is considered the most humane way to slaughter poultry. Although these newer, cruelty-free pork and egg products represent a tiny fraction of Burger King’s fast-food output — the company purchases 40 million pounds of eggs and 35 million pounds of pork annually — industry experts believe this move toward more humane and healthier food will likely trigger similar moves from competitors, even though BK says it won’t use these new guidelines in their advertising. You may have Unknown Food Allergies!
2007-04-19 01:28:00 You may have Unknown Food Allergies ! Food allergies, or rather food sensitivities can be quite common. These food sensitivities can cause a myriad of “symptoms”. These may include (and are not limited to) Acne Dark Under eye circles Red Eyes Stomach problems Gas Eczema Rosacea Consistent throat clearing Thinning Hair Dry Hair Dry lips Dry skin Cloudy complexion I have found these to be the physiological “symptoms” to consumption of certain foods in quite a few individuals. Unfortunately, an allergy test does not test for delayed reactions to foods, generally only immediate reactions (ie: hives, etc.). If you have some or all of the above symptoms, they could be food related. Sugar = Cancer?
More articles from this author:2007-04-18 21:44:00 Sugar = Cancer ? A major European study has found that women with high blood sugar levels are at an increased risk of developing cancer. High blood sugar levels can be caused by eating too much sugary food, and also by disease conditions such as diabetes. The study, which looked at 64,500 people over the course of 13 years, linked high blood sugar with cancers of the pancreas, skin, womb, and urinary tract. High blood sugar was also linked to breast cancer for women under 49. Women in the top quarter of blood sugar readings had a 26 percent higher chance of developing cancer than those in the bottom quarter. The research also found evidence that rates of unusually high blood sugar levels increase with advancing age.
