What do you eat for breakfast? _v02
2008-05-28 15:19:00
Ahhh the question of the week. I almost forgot!! While making eggs with the toddler this morning, it hit me. Hmmm I wonder what everyone else is having for breakfast these days. I tend to reach for the same handful of options over and over again and it's getting boring. So.... What do you eat for breakfast? I'm hoping to get a good list going! Ok, I'm going crazy! I asked this question a few months back! LOL

Yesterday's Menu Today's Plan
2008-05-28 14:03:00
I don't know what's up with me. Either I have allergies something fierce this season or I caught a spring bug. Either way I was a mess last night and didn't get a chance to post this. Yesterday was great! I'm starting to get into a groove working from home, although I haven't ironed out all the kinks yet. It takes a lot of discipline to create a routine and stick to it but without that routine I'm doomed! Today I'm spending the morning with the toddler, we'll hit the gym, then a Weight Watchers meeting, home for some work (toddler nap) and then I have to figure out what's for dinner. Food orange banana Handful of almonds Ginger Carrot Soup with Shrimp and Rice English Muffin Tomato Pizza corn on the cob Simple Quesadillas with a corn of the cob and fresh strawberries for dessert 94%ff popcorn too many cough drops to count, my throat is KILLING me! ...

Ask Roni Q&A Video _v01
2008-05-27 13:22:00
I recorded this before my big Memorial Day blow out! Boy am I glad the weekend is over, it was yet another overeating fiasco! I'll be posting a food journal tonight, I need some accountability. As for the video, I answer 5 questions. Topics covered... Activity Points Not continuing to lose My favorite Snacks. (Link to my old snacks page, mentioned in video) Freaking out about eating out Exercise ideas. (Ab workout I posted a few weeks back) I didn't realize until after seeing my own video how many Weight Watchers questions I answered. I have to emphasis I am NOT associated with Weight Watchers in any way!! The answers I gave are only my opinion as a Weight Watchers member. Weight Watchers does NOT endorse this site.

I THREW IT AWAY!! - A Sensational Sunday in the Works!
2008-05-25 13:43:00
I don't like to waste food but we had pizza leftover from the babysitter last night and it's been calling me all morning. I took a look at it, thought about how crappy I feel becuase I ate too much yesterday and then said, "NOPE! Totally NOT worth it!! Time to get back on track, today is a new day!" I have to confess this decision took about an hour. Can you believe that? I was consumed with the thought of that pizza for that long. What is wrong with me? Instead I split a healthy breakfast with the toddler. We had an orange, dry Frosted Mini-Wheats and yogurt. I feel SO MUCH BETTER and ready to face the day. This morning I'm off to Lowes to get garden supplies. I'm taking my hand at a real garden in the GROUND not just tomato and pepper plants in pots. This is a big step for this garden immigrant! Then it's off to a party this afternoon and I'm planning a run this evening. So raise up your water glass *ting* here's to a Sensational Sunday !

VERY Thin Sliced Bread
2008-05-24 18:24:00
Last week I came across Whole Grain Pepperidge Farm Very Thin Sliced Bread . I'm sure it's not new but this was the first time it caught my eye. Reading the nutritional information I was pleasantly surprised to find 3 slices were only 110 calories, 1.5g of fat and 3g of fiber. That's just 2 points! immediately I imagined a club sandwich. I haven't had a club sandwich in years! I totally forgot about them! But just think, 3 slices of bread, some turkey bacon, lean turkey, lettuce and tomato. You can really create some healthy alternatives with this bread. So that's what I did. Here's what I chow-ed down for lunch. All that and only 4 points!! Here's the breakdown with my point logic... Whole Grain Pepperidge Farm Very Thin Sliced Bread (2) Squirt of honey mustard (0) baby spinach leaves (0) tomato slices (0) 3 slices ultra thing lean ham (.5) 4 small slices turkey pepperoni (.5) 1 wedge laughing cow cheese (1) 1 sugar free sweet pickle (0) handf...
Pastaqueen & Roni Answer Away
2008-05-23 06:34:00
If you travel in any weight loss blog circles, I'm sure you've heard of the fabulous Jennette, AKA Pastaqueen and her blog Half of Me. Well her new book, Half-Assed is now available in stores and she's doing a book tour. Not just a regular old (boring) book tour but a blog book tour (how cool is that) and today she is visiting us! Instead of a traditional blog interview I decided to put Jennette to work! She has such an awesome prospective and you guys have got to be getting bored with me, no? So I asked Jennette to offer insight on a few 'Ask Roni' questions. Here goes! Roni, I'm 20lbs overweight and having a very hard time getting motivated to go to the gym. I've never been this bad before. I'm an emotional eater and eat when I'm stressed out and bored. How can I snap out of being lazy? -Reena Pastaqueen: I've been having a rather tough time hauling my ass to the gym lately too. The YMCA has been happy to keep taking my money even though I haven't been usi...

The Big Weigh In!
2008-05-22 06:07:00
Ok, if you read my Scale Habits post you know it's been a LONG time since weighing in. Well today was the BIG day. How did I do without looking at the scale for 6 WEEKS?!? I didn't even track points and I only journaled my food a few days here and there. Well, I am happy to report I was down .8!! Which is a perfect maintenance number. I'm still a few pounds up from where I want to be but I am ecstatic! I feel as if I can trust myself a little more now. I do not have to be a slave to the scale to maintain my weight. Now I want to kick it up a notch and loose these 4 pounds! So I have FINALLY updated my Weigh t Progress page. However, I hit a snag with the new MAC. I don't have Excel and my weight charts aren't translating well in my Office knock off software. So the table is updated but the charts aren't. I may have to figure out a new system. On top of that, (I'm just having technical difficulties all day today!) I was going to post my food journal but I lost it. Seriou...
What Goals have you reached?
2008-05-21 13:52:00
This question of the week is inspired by a goal I set for myself this year to climb the difficult steep inclined rock wall at the gym. I've made a date with that wall every tuesday and week after week I'm getting closer and closer to reaching that goal. Yesterday I psyched myself up. I was going to do it. I really was. “Today is the day” I told the husband. I went to the gym particularly early for my cardio class, I eyed up that wall and I said to myself, “that's it, today is the DAY! You CAN do this”. Then I proceed to gear up amongst the stares of people wondering what a 30'somthing is doing climbing a wall clearly meant for the 'young folk'. I told my spotter, “this is it, I'm going to do it!” and as I attacked the wall and made it about 1/3 of the way up I lost my grip and went flying in the air. All my hopes and motivation dangling right along with me. Man I couldn't do it. While I was lowered to the ground I felt like a chil...

Trying Something New
2008-05-20 14:14:00
Routines. I live by them and when I'm off, I'm really OFF! Now that classes are over and I'm on my own (on the job front that it) It's going to be even harder to find that routine. Honestly, I'm scared, in a 'change is scary' type of way. Work gave me a haven on the diet front. I'd eat breakfast with the toddler, pack my healthy “snacks”, munch all day (mostly) without temptation, and come home to cook a healthy dinner. Everything just fell into place. I have a feeling the next few weeks will be a transition period until I find my new groove. That, being said, I'm trying something new! If you noticed I'm writing this in the morning! I never write in the morning. For the life of this blog I've always written before bed. Then when I added a community and a second blog to my online portfolio that bed time became later and later and later. Now that I'm taking on clients the time I start my own posts and site maintenance is even getting later. If I keep my cu...
LesserEvil Black & White Kettle Corn
2008-05-20 04:24:00
LesserEvil my ARSE! These things are PURE evil! I mean that in the nicest way possible. :~) I found them Sunday on my weekly grocery trip and let's just say, the only thing left is the bag. Classic kettle corn with some chocolate gazed kernels YUM YUM and YUM! I'm going to give the nutritional information for a cup, but I have to honest it's going to be hard to stop there. Each cup is 110 calories, with 2 grams of fat and 1 g of fiber. That's a fun 2 points a serving but since we are being honest, I had 3 tonight. So my verdict is buy with caution. They may be too good to resist. ;~P They do have a website with a store finder.

said the weekend was already blown because I pigged out yesterday on fair food. gotten depressed after leaving my moms because I don't see her or my niece enough. skipped the gym when my workout buddy stood me up. threw on stretchy pants when my jeans were a bit too tight this morning. withdrew and watched TV all day on this gloomy, rainy day. cried over my best friend who just seems so distant now. ordered pizza when I really didn't feel like making dinner. But I didn't, Somehow I mustered up enough energy to get my butt in gear and fought through my bad mood (and boy was a bi-othchy this morning!) What I did do... Got up with the toddler and experimented in the kitchen. Shut OFF the TV!! Straightened and cleaned up the house (boy did it need and it's already a mess again!) Went to the gym alone, ran a mile and lifted. Invented a fun salad for lunch (will post tomorrow) Went for a Sunday drive with the family. Took the toddler groce...

Ask Roni - Scale Habits? Gone Full Circle?
2008-05-16 04:46:00
Seems like you have been doing a great job working out, but why haven't you been weighing in???? As far as I can tell, it's been 2 months since you hopped on the scale. -Joyce Funny you should ask that today! I was planning a post about this very topic for a a while now. Let me start at the beginning and by the end (I think) I'll answer that question. In my teens and my early 20s I would say I was obsessed with my body more then I was obsessed with my weight. Sounds funny, doesn't it? But really, I wasn't a scale obsessed girl. I was conscious that I was a overweight and I didn't like the body I was in but I don't remember hopping on the scale every day. I don't even remember having one. I weighed in at doctors appointments and when I saw scales in my friends bathrooms. Then in my mid 20s I started to become more scale aware. I bought my own. I weighed all the time and I really let if affect my mood. This was my crash diet phase. I was educating myself on diet and nu...

I'm going to be quick tonight. As usual, I'm trying to do too many things at once after a very busy day. Let's see... I recorded a new video for GreenLiteBites, so that's rendering. It's a whole different style and should be up tomorrow morning. I made a new recipe tonight, Ginger Garlic Chicken with Vegetables. The husband thought it was a winner! I'm TRYING to catch up on BlogToLose community news. For those of you over there, WOW! What activity and support! The forums are hopping, groups are popping up and everyone is SO friendly! As of now we are 381 members strong! I started to pack my office up at work. I'm hoping to have final grades in tomorrow to wrap up the semester. I had my exit interview at work. It's really starting to sink in that I'm finished there and moving on. SCARY! I got in a little balloon ball and wiffle ball with the toddler today. (Balloon ball is our made up game of baseball with balloons. We use a long skinny one for the bat and a...
How do you reward yourself?
2008-05-14 05:58:00
Allison submitted an Ask Roni question about this not too long ago and I agreed that it would make a great question of the week! So here goes... I think we are “trained” at a young age that food is a fun reward and we use eating as the main way to celebrate big events. How many times have we heard, “If you're good we'll get some ice cream” or “If we win the big game well go out for pizza” how about, “it's your birthday, let's bake cupcakes!” I'm guilty of this myself, recently bribing the toddler with a piece of chocolate if he goes on the potty. There is just something special about an editable treat! Now I'm not saying we can't/shouldn't celebrate with food and I don't think we should outlaw birthday cakes anytime soon. But overall, I think we need to break the food/reward connection in our brains. There are other ways to celebrate and sometimes food really isn't an appropriate choice. Case in point... How many times h...

2008-05-13 03:46:00
Hope from WeightingLine tagged me a few days ago but I haven't had time to reply. I’m supposed to tell you seven off the wall things about myself that you may (or may not) know. So here goes… 7 Random Things About Me I love horror movies, gory, campy, suspenseful, you name it, I'll watch it! I worked at McDonalds for 5 years and in high school I actually had 2 jobs. I guess I've always been a bit of a workaholic. ;~P I read at least 3 books to the toddler a day. I hate wearing shoes. If it were up to me I'd go barefoot everyday. The husband and I have been together 13 YEARS! Holy crap I feel old considering I met him Freshman year of college. I used to refuse ice cream as a kid unless it was chocolate. Boy do I wish I kept that pickiness as an adult! I love playing poker and I wish I was better then I actually am. So there ya go. I’m now supposed to tag seven other people but I'm going to be honest, I just don't have the energy so consider ...

It Could Have Been Worse...
2008-05-12 06:34:00
That's what I keep telling myself about this weekend. I had a lot of fun but I also ate quite a bit and right now I feel like CRAP! I'm SO looking forward to getting back into a routine this week, hitting the gym hard, training for my 5k and wrapping up the semester. Hope you all had a Happy Mother's Day! I'm signing off early so I can start the week with a good night sleep (although it's already after midnight!)
Take THAT Cinnabon
2008-05-10 06:43:00
So the EVIL husband bought a 4 pack of Cinnabons today. A FOUR PACK?!?! I don't know WHAT he was thinking. He popped one in the microwave about an hour ago and the smell was enough to drive me mad. So I had 1 BITE of his and then proceeded to scoop out a serving of Breyer's Free Vanilla and sprinkle cinnamon on top. YUMMY!! It hit the spot, cured the craving and saved me about 35 points! Plus I don't feel like a beached whale right now!! LOL It's all about compromise and substitutions!
Early Week Wrap Up
2008-05-09 05:43:00
Last week of classes is OVER!! That's right, OVER! **Breathing a sigh of relief** Oh geesh, I have so much to tell you I don't know where to start. I think I'm going to have to do a list. It's just how my brain works... The new weight loss community, Blog to Lose is going GREAT! I am having so much fun reading and participating it's my new favorite past time. (Now that I'm not dealing with an influx of automated SPAM , thank you very much!). Food this week hasn't been so great for me. If you remember I had the pizza incident early this week and tonight I fell apart after dinner. HOWEVER... On the workout front I'm kicking A$$! Running, spinning, lifting and even attempting the steep inclined wall a few times (didn't make it yet, but I'm close). I'm sore as sore can be but I FEEL GREAT! I tackled a kitchen fear tonight and cooked a tuna steak at home! So glad I did! I'll be making it again! One of my GreenLiteBites videos is being played on Cooking Light f...

Choice Ramen Noodles
2008-05-09 04:37:00
Oh boy! If you are anything link me you lived off Ramen Noodles in college. They were cheep, fast and the perfect midnight snack! The problem with them? Well let's see, deep fried noodles. Ummm yeah, enough said. So shortly after college I stopped buying them and honestly, I forgot about them until a couple of weeks ago. Someone mentioned in an email they saw a healthy version at the grocery store and wondered if I tried them. Sure enough, there they were! Right above the regular version in all the flavors I remember, chicken, shrimp and beef. I bought one of each! So how much healthier are they? well the bag (that's right, the whole bag) is 280 calories, 2 g of fat and 4 g of fiber! That's only 5 points for the whole bag! That's a HUGE serving, a real quick lunch and they taste e-x-a-c-t-l-y like I remember them! Check GreenLiteBites tomorrow as I'm planning to make them for my weekly video posts! Have you guys seen them already? Anyone else try them? I'm normally pret...

What causing you to (over)eat?
2008-05-07 04:07:00
This weeks question is the direct result of my pizza incident yesterday. Although I've been considering this topic for awhile. I think there are a few different reasons why we eat. That sounds stupid, but really let's things about what situations cause us to put food in our mouth. We are actually hungry This is a given, of course. And I think we really know when our bodies need food. Stomach growling, low energy, emptness. Celebration Let's see, it's someone's birthday... we eat cake. Graduation? More cake. Anniversary? Go out to dinner. Holiday? Forgettabout. It seems that an easy way to celebrate any event involves food. Bored Yup, sometimes there is just thing else to do but eat. Peer Pressure I'm eating so you should be too! Sad/Depressed Food comforts a lot of us. Smells Ohhh we've all done it. The smell of bread from a bakery or my personal demon, Cinnabon! I could go on and on. It's seems we may turn to food for many reasons besides...
Feeling Totally Out of Control but Excited!
2008-05-06 06:34:00
Let's just say... Stress + Pizza + PMS + 12 Hours at Work = DISASTER Ummmm let's see.... I lost my cell phone today. I don't really care about the phone itself but all those numbers. AAACK! I don't even want to think about it. It's the last week of classes. Which should make me happy but it's a super busy time. I have an inbox full of messages I just can't get ahead on. 3 client projects that are starting to fall behind. A house that is in constant state of messiness. Oh and I'm a mom to a very active 3 year old (well, almost 3) who is showing all signs of potty train readiness and I have NO idea what I'm doing. Now, if all that wasn't enough I launched my new weight loss community this weekend! I am SUPER excited about it but it has been a wee bit stressful as well. It's been going well so far and I've been having a lot of fun welcoming and orientating everyone to the new system. If you are interested there are new forums, a blog feature for users and even a cha...

Breakfast Tip for Moms
2008-05-05 15:43:00
Well, you don't have to be a Mom but Moms would more then likely have toddler bowls hanging around! I don't know about you but when I weighed out a serving of my favorite breakfast cereals for the first time, I almost cried. It was an eye opening experience to actually see what a serving size was! I mean a ½ a cup of cereal is really not that much and it's gone in a just a few bites. Plus is looks ridiculous in big bowls and really, you don't feel like you ate anything afterwards. That's why I started using the toddler's bowls. You'd be surprised but an one of those little bowls just fits an adult serving of most cereals. So every morning (well the mornings we aren't eating eggs) I pull out two toddler bowls and the toddler and I sit down for breakfast. It's fun, he gets a kick that I'm using one of his bowls and I don't feel deprived seeing my controlled portion in an oversized soup bowl. In case you're wondering we are eating Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats ...

Breyer's Free
2008-05-04 06:18:00
Ummmmm...... “Creamy” fat free ice cream. Yea right? You say. But seriously this stuff is good! A friend brought it to my attention a few days ago so I was on a hunt at the grocery store. Sure enough there it was, 1 POINT ice cream! Unfortunately my store only carried Vanilla so I wasn't able to try the Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Mint Fudge, Strawberry, or the Chocolate Cookies & Cream but I'm sure I'll have a chance sometime this summer! (note: Some flavors are 2 points) Now some ice cream connoisseurs may be skeptical but even consumer reports said... Comments about the texture were that the fat-free ice creams were smooth, slightly gummy, and had a texture like gelato, a pudding pop or fudgsicle. All testers thought these products were decent ice creams (not the best, but definitely not the worst). When told that they were fat free, the panel was very surprised and commented that these ice creams are a big improvement over the fat-free ice creams that we'v...

"That was a good run Mommy!"
2008-05-03 06:48:00
That's exactly what the toddler said to me when I walked in the door from a 30 minute run today. He looked so genuinely excited and interested in the run that I had a tear in my eye (I told you, a sap!). It was just so darn cute and I love the fact that I'm teaching him to be active and that exercise is fun. He watches me from the window and cheers me on and I love it! Other news today, let's see... I've been spending a lot of time getting my new home office set up. Now that may sound sooo official, but it's just a new desk in my extra bedroom. But a desk I desperately need. Every night I work on my laptop in the living room. I have tripods and cameras all over the kitchen and more power cords then I can count on the couch next to me. I think I finally need my own space to work on my sites and my other projects. Speaking of projects I'm working on a bunch of fun web site, which really, is my favorite thing to do. My semester is wrapping up soon and I'm counting the days, p...

Patterns are Emerging
2008-05-01 05:29:00
A few people mentioned it in comments and now I definitely see the pattern. The day after I run, I'm STARVING! I mean nothing satisfies me. I just want to constantly munch. I'm trying to increase my protein but right now all my go to snacks are carbs. I have to start changing my habits, I think, and pack some cheese sticks and nuts. Any other ideas? You'd think I can come up with others. I mean, I was an Atkins girl at one time but I've since turned into such a fruit freak. So this pattern isn't a bad thing, per say. I can deal with it. However, I have to listen to my body on the days that I do run. I feel as if I'm not explaining myself correctly let me start at the beginning... Yesterday I ran 2.5 miles. For the rest of the day I wasn't actually hungry. I mean I needed to eat but I didn't have the constant hunger pangs as I did today (now). However, I still ate a lot. Why? because mentally I was telling my body I should/could eat because I ran. Like it gave me some kind...
