Music, a Movie and a MAC at Midnight
2008-04-16 06:23:00
So much for the early to bed concept, it’s just about midnight and I’m up playing with my brand new toy! I can’t believe I’m a MAC user now. Well, almost. I’m still writing this post on my PC but only because the new MAC isn’t completely set up yet. It will probably take me a few day, but I’m super excited! Besides the new computer, I accomplished a lot today. First the toddler and I had a little fun in the kitchen making fruit kabobs. Then, it was off to the gym where I actually ran for 5K on the treadmill. I’m still in a state of shock! I mean, me, a runner. HA! When did this chubby, lazy computer geek with the short spiky hair turn into a skinny, active MAC user who runs for fun with a long ponytail flapping in the wind?? I mean seriously, it’s just crazy. Ok, back to these M’s. We covered the midnight, the MAC, the Movie so onto the Music . A few people have asked what’s on my iPod for workouts. WOW th...

HOLY $HIT – I just ran a 5K!
2008-04-15 20:23:00
OK, sorry I don’t normally curse but I’m super excited!  Most of you know I’ve been considering signing up for a 5K run after my friend, the trainer, mentioned it to me a few weeks back. I’ve been talking about it ever since but haven’t started actually running.  See, I’m the type of person who need a goal, a reason to do something or I never actually get started. So a few days ago, there was a running booth set up at the gym. They had a pamphlet for a local 5K event in about 6 weeks. I thought, “Perfect” that gives me 6 weeks to start running and training. Well, today was the day I started. I hoped on the treadmill I made a running mix for my iPod (I’ll post it later), I hit the 5K button, level 1 and away I went! At first it wasn’t too bad (6 mph), then at about the 8 minute mark I got a cramp and I thought, “uh oh, I can’t do this” and turned it down to a walk (4.7 mph). Then a goo...

Don't buy Doritos telling yourself they are really for the husband and then proceed to eat half the bag. Don’t even BUY the baked Doritos in the first place. You KNOW you have no self-control when they are in the house. Blogger Appreciation Day!
2008-04-14 14:45:00
One of my favorite (non-weight loss) blogs, Problogger announced an unofficial Blogger Appreciate day! What a fabulous idea! To quote Darren We’re in it together, blogging is about collaboration and together going further than we can by ourselves - so why not help another blogger today by shooting them a word of encouragement, a pep talk, a congratulations, an idea to help them improve or some other positive constructive message. Better still, do it publicly on your blog and tell the world about another blogger who you appreciate. Couldn’t have said it better myself!  My shout out goes to… All the active, supportive, amazing weight watchen community bloggers.  Every day you guys amaze me with your words of encouragement to each other. I may not be as active as I want to be but I’m reading! MizFit. Her blog (and her physique) motivate me on the workout front daily. Red. Whose videos give me a much need...

Early to Bed, Early to Rise...
2008-04-14 04:00:00
...makes Roni stop snacking before bed! I’ve been staying up late, WAY too late and it seems that’s when I lose all control. I’ve snacked my way out of many a good day and I’m tired of it. Literally.  I’m making an effort to get to bed early all this week (that may mean shorter posts) but I have to change something up and get out of this snacking cycle. Speaking of snacking, Andrew from Linda’s Diet Delites emailed and asked if I’d be willing to try a new product they have coming in, Chocolite Peanut Butter Cup Patties. All I have to say is Oh My WORD! They reminded me so much of the homemade chocolate peanut butter eggs my mother-in-law brings on Easter. The chocolate was delish, the peanut butter filling was dry and crumbly. It was just perfect!  Now you’re curious about the nutritional information, aren’t you?. Well, I was surprised to find out that each peanut butter cup patty is only 40 calories, 3g fat...

Ask Roni – Exercise Motivation
2008-04-12 07:04:00
I am wondering how you stay motivated to exercise.  I know, from reading your posts you seem to really enjoy exercising, saying it’s "me" time.  Did you always enjoy exercising?  I have been exercising for a long time now--sometimes I am more committed than others--but I can never say it's fun!  My idea of  “me” time is to put my nose in a good book.  Choosing to exercise over choosing to read (or do other things) is always a struggle for me and I can't honestly imagine being excited about choosing exercise time over reading time!  Any suggestions?  Thanks! Sandy Hi Sandy! Thanks for your question. This is an interesting subject for me as I didn’t always enjoy exercise. Actually, I hated it. I mean, I didn’t mind a nice walk but the thought of getting in the car, going to the gym and taking a 45 minute spinning class was not even on my radar for a “good time” (I actually do...

Need a Night Off
2008-04-10 05:29:00
So I’m taking it. Not that type of ‘night off’. I actually had a really good day, food wise. I just don’t have it in me to type up a post. Then again I’m typing up a post now, aren’t I? Let me rephrase, I don’t have it in me to type up a meaningful post. :~P The toddler and I did record a video tonight. It’s a bit long (too long, if you ask me, but I’m going to post it anyway) so it’s taking a long time to render. I should have it up by tomorrow on GreenLiteBites. I have been trying to catch up on blog readings and one caught my eye today by MizFit. She answered a viewers question about watching the scale. Her perspective is something I needed to hear especially since I’ve been working out more and weighing in less. OK, enough. I’m off. Remember? ;~)

Are you ready?
2008-04-09 04:48:00
Are you ready? I might catch some slack for this weeks question(s) but I don’t care. I need to ask not only you but also myself. It’s a simple yet complex question,  “Are you ready?” Are you ready to live a healthier lifestyle? Are you ready to make the harder choices that lifestyle may entail? Are you ready to plan, think, prepare, shop, and not just grab a donut on the way to work? Are you ready to shut off the TV and go outside for a walk? Are you ready to seek out the staircase instead of taking the elevator? Are you ready to admit to yourself you eat too much? Are you ready to tell yourself hunger is not an emergency or an excuse? Are you ready to face your feelings instead of shoving them down with a slice of pizza? Are you ready to stop trying to do it all and get more sleep? Are you ready to try new foods you’ve dismissed because you “don’t eat vegetables”? Are you ready to love yourself NOW,...

It's like I look better, feel better, so...I can just eat the left over Kraft dinner tonight...I feel I have lost my something...confidence is up...commitment has gone down.  What can I do? Thanks, Tanya Hi, I just would like to say that I just happened to stumble on to your website and it was like finding an old friend. I share the same story like a lot of other women, just a few minor changes here and there. I am doing Weight Watchers at home ( I have the books and such)Finally here’s the question; how do you handle it when you have a bad day or crave things and give into the cravings? I am very bad about beating myself up and thinking that that’s it for me and I have to give up. I know so dramatic. But it is such a struggle!! Thanks for any advice. Keep up the good work. Fabulous Friday!
2008-04-05 05:22:00
Doesn’t everyone just love Friday ? Especially Fridays in the spring, when the weather is getting warmer and the farm stands start to open. I am so ready for summer.  Anyway, what made my Friday so fabulous? Well, I solved the childcare issue, had a great morning with the toddler, got something accomplished at work, bought a crap load of fresh produce for the weekend, made an awesome dinner, and went for a really fun, really long, family walk. I also had a guest post published over on the diet blog at Diets in Review (they review like every diet known to man and have a nice Weight Watchers write up, it’s a pretty cool site) and started development on the new community. Now it’s off to bed early! Food Points Apple Pie Oatmeal 4 Strawberry Papaya Smoothie 1 McDonald's Southwestern Salad 6 Sensible Portions Multi Grain Mini Crisps 2 post farm stan fruit nibbles...
Just a Catch-up Chat
2008-04-04 05:39:00
Let me start at the beginning. I feel like I have a TON of stuff to get out of my head.  If you believe it, I’ve been taking cryptic notes since Tuesday about what I want to tell you and now I can’t decipher them. Tells you a little about my note taking and penmanship ability. Chicken scratch, my mom would say.  Anyway, my entire schedule has been thrown off since losing day care 2 weeks ago (long story).  Last week it didn’t matter as I was on Spring Break but this week has been crazy! Two full time working parents juggling a two year old without full time care is insane, but I must admit, FUN! The toddler and I have been spending a bunch of time in the kitchen. It all started on Tuesday night with some pizza making. Nothing is more fun then making pizza at home with a little helper. Well, that may not be true, there was also dancing, going to the farm stand, taking walks, playing hide and seek (with a clearly visible 2 year old), havi...

Do you wear Spandex?
2008-04-02 05:03:00
I can’t take credit for this weeks question idea.  I was in the mood for a more lighthearted topic. I mean it is April Fools, right? So while sifting through my email, I came across Suzan’s question.  It just made me chuckle (sorry if you didn’t mean it that way Suzan). RoniDo you think the invention of spandex was a diet disaster? I do. It is SO easy to buy a medium and stretch and stretch to the point one does not realize if they have gained weight or not. The clothes just keep on stretching. I threw away ALL my pants with spandex and only wear pants with a button and zipper.  Believe it or not it really keeps me conscientious of my body and  happy  I’m not stretching pants to the max. What do you think? Throw them away?? So this weeks big question is… Do you wear Spandex ? Or do you agree with Suzan. Me? Well I honestly, I have a few pairs for the gym.  LOL but I’m in a pair of jeans just about ...

Grazing Leads to Permanent Weight Loss!
2008-04-01 05:19:00
Well, for me and this post it did anyway.  Let me explain. I don’t have much time tonight, it’s my long day at work. So I was just going to post my food journal and head to bed. Well, after analyzing my journal I realized it was a perfect example of what I call a grazing day (something I need to do on 12 hour work days) and I thought I’d use that has a simple topic and find a few articles that discuss grazing and weight loss, something that I attribute some of my success to. Then I found this great article about permanent weight loss. According to the article, the study found that people who lost an average of 60 pounds and kept it off for an average of five years hold seven things in common. They believe failure is to be expected, but that when you keep trying, ultimately you will be successful. Those who kept their weight off realize that deprivation leads to binging and binging leads to setbacks. They've learned to eat a wide variet...

Ask Roni - Family Support
2008-03-30 18:20:00
Hey Roni! A quick question...I know your husband isn't always on board with some of the food you cook, but have you ever had any issues with him supporting you on your weight loss?  Both my husband and I are doing WW, him a little more successfully than myself, but lately, when I've needed him to drag me off the couch, he's content to just go to the gym alone, or cook his own meal.  I know I'm the type of person who really needs support to be successful, and that's why I love reading your site, and other ww blogs/messageboards.  Just wondering if you ever had any resistance at home too, and if so, how did you get through the tough times? Coral Hi Coral! This is a GREAT question and actually one the husband and I **cough** discuss all the time.  See, he’s never had a weight problem. Actually he had the opposite problem in the past, not being able to gain weight in his younger years. I actually wrote about his skinniness in an older post...

Web Site Troubles
2008-03-29 20:44:00
You may have noticed my sites have been down inconsistently since midnight. This is due to upgrades at my hosting company (things like this shouldn't happen, but that's another story) Everything should be back to normal by tomorrow. Sorry about that. WeightWatchen community members - I am SO sorry. I meant to post about this last night and when I went to do it, the site was already down. All SHOULD be back to normal tomorrow (if not tonight) My apologies, -Roni Update @ 5PM: Everything seems to be up and back online, including the community and message boards! Again I'm sorry for the downtime. Oh! And the toddler and I posted a new video yesterday and I answered my first (easy) Ask Roni Question on GreenLiteBites. More to come!

Fighting the Feeling
2008-03-28 03:53:00
I weighed in today. BLEH! Up 2 pounds. It wasn’t a surprise considering my candy fiasco this past weekend.  I know I talk a big game with all my motivational self pep talks but honestly, I’m fighting that feeling of “ohhh eff it!” The weekend is here, I’ll probably go out tomorrow night and I already have plans with a friend for dinner Saturday night. Why not just go crazy, eat what I want (which is everything in sight), and start over on Monday? I’ll tell you why! “All or nothing”, “start tomorrow” thinking doesn’t work. It didn’t work for the 15 years I struggled with my weight and I know from experience that way of thinking causes the scale to go in the WRONG direction. Tomorrow is a new day, with new choices and each choice needs to be independent.  I can do this. First thing tomorrow is the gym and then I’m planning a fun video with the toddler. If it works out I’ll post it ...

Quick Updates – Go Ahead Ask.
2008-03-27 05:00:00
I’m watching The Brave One right now and really enjoying it so I’m going to make this quick. I finally added a feature to the site I wanted to for a long time. I get so many questions in my inbox, a lot of them similar, so instead of answering everyone individually I thought I’d respond a bit more publicly so everyone can benefit. Look up an see the Ask Roni link, there you can submit a question and I’ll try to answer 1 every week or so (depending on how many I get.) So, overall I had a good day, my points are a bit high but I did hit a spinning class. I’m thinking of having another Kashi Cookie now, I’m a little hungry. Have a good night! Update: I almost forgot. there may be some downtime on the site this weekend and my hosting company is updating their servers. Hopefully it won't be too long. Sensible Portions Multi Grain Mini Crisps
2008-03-27 04:25:00
I LOVE finding new snacks! Every time I shop it’s like a hunting expedition, my own little adventure. Today my hunting ground was BJ’s, a local wholesale club, and my prey was Sensible Portions Multi Grain Mini Crisps .  I’ve never heard of the brand before so I approached with extreme caution. I wasn’t going to be fooled by the frivolous displays of “whole grain” and “100 calories”. We all know these could possible be fake cries attempting to trap and confuse you into believing they are healthy.   To my surprise, upon inspecting my victim, I discover his claims to be of some merit. Made with whole grain corn, rice and oat flour these 100 calorie packs are a welcomed addition in the land empty calories, high fructose corn syrup and trans fats.   I tried both the apple cinnamon and cheddar flavors today.  The crisps are very light and airy, think Quaker Mini Delights but lighter and crisper. The flavor is ...
What dieting disasters have you fallen prey to?
2008-03-26 04:31:00
I’ve been thinking of writing a post about the worst dieting mishaps I personally tried and failed with but I decided to turn it into a question of the week. I truly believe we learn from our mistakes and boy have I made some doozies…    Skipping breakfast after a “binge” This is tough for me. If I eat too much one night then it’s just natural for me to want skip my next meal. Big mistake, huge. Then I get too hungry by lunch and totally pig out. By dinner I have the “oh, well, the day’s already ruined” attitude and eat 4-5 slices of pizza and the cycle continues. Thinking I can drink my meals. Yeah, this never works, I don’t care if the shake has 1000 calories in it, I’m not satisfied so I end up eating anyway. Popping a pill to control hunger.  I confess I did this, on more then one occasion. It’s a short term solution that i...

Can’t vs. Haven’t
2008-03-25 04:32:00
I’ve been thinking about those two words for the past couple of days. As I sit, still disgusted with myself after this weekend (and the chip incident tonight) I realized it’s March. Not only March but the end of March.  That’s three months since I made my new years goals. Let’s do a little assessment. Get back to my personal goal of 140lbs Ok there is really do reason I haven’t reached this goal yet. It’s not unrealistic to lose 5 pounds in 3 months. Since working out I feel like I eat more (which I should be) but more out of control.  Almost like my workouts give me some kind of unconscious permission to excessively snack.  This needs to stop. Climb the inclined (hard level) rock wall at the gym I can do this! I tried once and failed but I KNOW I can do it.  It’s going to take a lot of work and training but I’m up for the challenge. Do 1 Unassisted Pull Up This one scares me. I...

Easter Candy and Holiday Dinner Plans
2008-03-22 02:57:00
Bleh! I made the Easter baskets tonight and now I feel like a stuffed pig. It’s really my first nibbles at the Easter Candy . Thankfully I only bought one bag of jelly beans (which I don’t even like) and one bag of chocolate eggs. That’s it.  The rest of the basket is filled with trinket toys, play dough and lots of fun little gifts. SO much better then a basket of candy in my opinion. So tomorrow the guests start to arrive.  I’m TOTALLY not ready. But I’m getting there.  The baskets are done. I’ve been prepping vegetables all day. And I’m starting a cool yelatin (no, it’s not a typo it’s my new favorite dessert!) mold with a bunch of festive colors.  My plan is to serve it with fruit and cool whip for a fun light dessert. As for dinner, I’m going half traditional, half Italian. It’s kind of a family tradition.  I’m starting with some Zucchini & Red Pepper Salad with Spin...

Said in the voice of one of my favorite movies of all time Office Space. (For some reason when I said it to myself I couldn't get this scene out of my head) I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I just want to EAT! Snack! Munch! Whatever. It’s not my normal snacking time either. *sigh* I think it’s stress related. But unconsciously stress related, if that makes sense.  I don't feel overly stressed but I have a lot of little things happening.  I’m resigning at the end of the semester, I’m trying to start a small business, I’m having childcare issues (may need to find a new provider) I have a ton of family coming in for Easter.  There’s just a lot going and I tend to want to eat for comfort. I also think I haven’t really figured out how to eat with my new workout schedule. Yesterday the spinning class, today cardio dance. I feel like I’m always hungry and I’m trying to figure out if it&rsquo...
