What do you eat for breakfast?
2008-03-19 03:45:00 The toddler is responsible for inspiring this weeks question. Breakfast is one of my favorite meals, not because of the food but because I have made it routine for us to wake up and prepare something healthy every morning. It’s a non-negotiable mommy/toddler time in the kitchen and today the toddler had his own idea on how he wanted to start the day. Now, I think we all know how important breakfast is for overall health and weight loss. Don’t we? Just in case, here’s a really good write up. I’ve noticed since starting this journey I really only have a handful of breakfast ideas that I tend to put into rotation. Some may think they would get bored eating the same things over and over but on the contrary having a few “go to’s” takes any pressure off of deciding what to have on busy mornings. It’s like my own personal menu. My morning options include Whole Grain Pancakes, eggs, oatmeal (like Apple Pie Oat...
YOU Can Make You Thin
2008-03-18 03:19:00 Did anyone see the new show “I Can Make You Thin”? on TLC? I didn’t watch it but I saw the preview and read this article. A good friend of mine (who also lost a significant amount of weight) caught it last night and said the host, Paul McKenna actually had some interesting insights. His 4 Golden Rules of Weight Loss are… Eat whenever you are hungry Eat only what you want, never what you think you ‘should’ Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful Stop when you even think your body is full I agree with him to a point, but #2 bugs me a bit. I mean if we all knew what we SHOULD be eating most of us wouldn’t need to lose weight in the first place. Right? Now 1, 3 and 4 are ok in my book. You shouldn’t be starving yourself, you should enjoy what you eat and you need to stop eating when you’re full. Got it. But how does HE make ME thin? I mean the title REALLY bugs me.&n...
Holy Workout Batman!
2008-03-17 04:48:00 I can NOT believe I’m about to type this. Ya ready? Ok, here goes…. I worked out for 2 and ½ hours today. TWO AND HALF HOURS! And I loved every minutes of it. It was pure, uninterrupted ME time. No husband, no toddler, no email, no phone, nothing. Just me doing something good for myself and I feel fantabulous! What has happened to me? Seriously, 10 years ago I was the girl who would drive a half a mile to campus and get a 5 dollar parking ticket because I was too lazy to walk to my classes. LOL It just makes me laugh. My friend, the trainer wants me to start working on a 10k run and I’m scared to death. She thinks I can do it and that the only thing that is holding me back is, well, me. I may be getting in better shape but I still have a hard time believing I can do it. It’s all a confidence thing, I know that. But when you’ve told yourself something for 20 years (I can’t run, I’m not an athlete, yada yada) ... More About: Workout , Batman , Holy
Accountability & Awareness
2008-03-15 20:05:00 That’s what I needed. If you read fairly regularly you know I haven’t been weighing in. Honestly I’ve been avoiding the scale. Mostly because I noticed some old habit creeping back in. Not that I think I gained any significant amount of weight but I just assumed the scale wouldn’t be my friend and I just didn’t want to deal with it. I think a lot of us do that (well, I speak mostly for myself but, you know what I mean) We know we are starting to slip and instead of facing it we ignore it. Then before we know it we’ve gained back a significant amount of weight, then we get depressed, eat more, gain more and the cycle continues. I know this cycle very well. Well I’m not going to let it happen again! Especially not after 2 years. So yesterday morning on my way to a client meeting (one of my first for the new company!!) I decided to stop in a Weight Watchers meeting and weigh in. Now I knew I couldn’t... More About: Awareness , Accountability
I figured it out…
2008-03-14 03:03:00 It’s the sleep. Definitely the sleep. Or should I say lack of it. This week I’ve been especially busy with the contest, a little stressed about my career choices and frankly, just going to bed waaay to late. I mean really TOO late. When I’m tired I snack. I snack to stay awake, I snack without realizing it and I’m more likely to eat just for the taste of it. So I’m putting a stop to it. I’m taking the night off but first, my menu. I promised myself I’d track and I did. Have a good night! Food Points light yogurt 1 carrots 1 granola bar 2 Tortilla-Less Tortilla Soup with All-Bran Crackers 3 carrots 1 apple 1 night out - chinese night (won ton soup, spring roll, a little bit of fried rice & low mein)(estimate) 12 VitaBrownie Pizza (larger piece, estimating 2 servings) 4 Total...
Choices & Confessions
2008-03-13 04:32:00 First, the choice. As you may know it’s been awhile since I officially weighed in. (For those that don’t know, I only track weigh in at Weight Watcher meetings and I still try to go weekly.) Keyword there, TRY. Yeah, I haven’t been trying to hard in the last few weeks. My schedule has been just so freakin’ crazy! So today when I had the chance to leave work early I have a choice, gym or Weight Watchers. I chose the gym. I’m sot sure it was the right choice but I can tell you the mindset that got me there… I haven’t worked out since Sunday and I like to go 4 times a week if possible so I need to squish it in when I can. There was a class starting at the gym where I could get some cardio in. Anytime I can get cardio in with a class I like to take it as I don’t really like cardio and classes are fun. I’ve been eating a bit more recently and I don’t really want to see the scale. Making all the Vit... More About: Confessions , Choices
How do you incorporate your favorite foods?
2008-03-12 05:55:00 This Question of the week is inspired by the long awaited Whole Wheat Pizza Dough! That’s right people, I did it, I finally did it! I sucked it up and threw it out there. I learned a LONG time ago that I couldn’t stop eating my favorite foods if I was to be successful at losing weight. So I turned to creating or finding healthier, lighter alternatives. For example, I replaced chips with soy crisps, ice cream with frozen yogurt, American cheese with Laughing Cow and now, fast food pizza with my own homemade. Just think of the amount of calories and fat I save. Plus think of the health benefits of less salt, more fiber, whole grains, more veggies and overall just knowing what I’m putting into my body! So how do you incorporate your favorites? Have you made substitutions? Do you still splurge but eat less? Inquiring minds want to know! More About: Incorporate , Foods , Favorite
Long Day-Short Post-Busy Momma
2008-03-11 04:59:00 I HATE Mondays!! I can’t wait until this semester is OVER! Sorry I’ve been MIA. I’ve been working on the VitaMix contest, picking finalists and starting to make and archive the recipes. Plus I hit the gym twice this weekend for a cardio blast class and a weight training session with the trainer (I’m still sore). I’ve also been playing around with the whole-wheat pizza dough experiments. The husband is officially sick of pizza but now I have to make it one more time to practice and photograph for the site. I’m thinking a video would be fun but it will require a bit of editing since it needs some time to rise. Oh! and I’ve been working on my new company site. Did I tell you that? Oh yea, I did. Like waaaay back in November. LOL Ummm all that and I work full time (for now) and have the toddler. What the eff am I thinking?!? Ok, I think it’s time for bed. ;~P Food Points banana ... Cinnabon Cinnamon Crunch Cereal
2008-03-08 20:20:00 HOLY SMOKES! Have you seen this stuff? Last weekend, it caught my (and the husband’s) eye. I almost immediately dismissed it when I saw the Cinnabon name. We all know the monstrosity that is Cinnabon, don’t we? I mean I LOVE me a Cinnabon. There really is nothing like it, but weighing it at 730 calories I’d rather eat 2 whole meals!! Anyway I do what I always do, turned the box around to More About: Cinnamon , Crunch , Cereal

2008-03-08 03:38:00 JUST STOP!!! Sometimes you just have to scream at yourself to stop mindlessly munching. And why, oh WHY, when I have a house full of fresh fruit, do I chose Sun Chips? These things are too addictive! Just posted a new video and tomorrow is off to the gym for me! Right now it's horror movie night with the hubby! Gotta go!! More About: Note , Note to Self
2 Years, 4 Days and Counting
2008-03-07 04:47:00 AWE MAN! I missed my anniversary. Four days ago it was my 2 year anniversary of becoming a Weight Watchers Lifetime member. March 3, 2006 I weighed in at my local Weight Watchers meeting at the unbelievable weight of 142.2 pounds. ME 142 lbs! I’m still nodding my head in disbelief. Two years later, I’m holding steady. Unfortunately my schedule hasn’t allow me to weigh in the last few weeks More About: Days , Years , Counting
Yea, that’s right, THIS is how I ended my day...
2008-03-06 05:47:00 And it was only 4 points! AND it was to DIE for! Just in case you are wondering, it’s a Dark Chocolate Pomegranate Flavored VitaBrownie, 1 scoop of Ben & Jerry’s Lighten Up! (half serving) and fresh berries. Can you tell I was having a chocolate craving? That along with my insatiable appetite? Hmmmm OK, just so you know, I’m EXHAUSTED! I have a full inbox, a messy house, a recipe to post
Are you and how do you get prepared?
2008-03-05 13:12:00 This weeks question(s) were inspired by a few separate events that, some how, my brain collided together into the concept of preparedness. Bear with me as I try to make sense of this all... A few days ago I got an email asking my opinion on prepackaged food diets like Medifast or Chefs Diet . My reaction is, well, of YES you will lose weight on those plans because it’s portion

Back on Track!
2008-03-04 06:12:00 Real quick as I just got home from a L-O-N-G day at work. I wanted to tell you I’m feeling 100% better! I decided to track a bit this week to help get back into the my routine. I’m also planning on hitting a meeting, it’s been weeks since I’ve weighed in. I had a great day today, yesterday I had a great workout and tomorrow I plan on hitting the gym. I am SO happy to put that nasty virus More About: Back , Track
Ben & Jerry’s Lighten Up!
2008-03-03 04:02:00 I hope this isn’t a “What are you, living under a rock” find but I just (re)discovered that Ben & Jerry’s has a lighter line. The husband wanted to get a treat for himself and good old B&J’s were 2 for $5 so I just HAD to take look. I figured I could get a fun flavor and go home, separate it into 4 portions and have a ready go ‘splurgy’ dessert. I mean a life without Ben & Jerry’s is,
Saturday Link Fest!
2008-03-02 05:25:00 I’m feeling SO better! Not 100% but a lot better. Tomorrow I WILL be going to the gym and getting back into my groove. It will be my first workout WITH the trainer! I can’t wait. Anyway I thought it would be fun to do a bit of a link fest today. I’ve been collecting a few things all week that caught my eye. So here goes! In need of some motivation? Listening to My Body
2008-02-29 21:58:00 It’s Friday again? I feel like I just posted Totally Random Friday yesterday! That’s how fast my week went and I didn’t even accomplish anything! Argh! I HATE BEING SICK! I went to the doctors yesterday and it appears I have a stomach virus. Although he wants to keep an eye on me because he’s worried it may be something else. So he told me to go on a liquid diet for a day or two and call More About: Body , Listening , My Body
How do you get back to a routine?
2008-02-28 04:16:00 Ok, this weekly question is getting pulled directly from my week. MAN this bug has thrown me for a loop this week! I didn’t feel much like eating during the day but when I did it wasn’t anything healthy. I haven’t been drinking as much water as I should. I just feel BLAH! Now I’m stuck in that limbo between not feeling quite 100% but having to get back to everything I’ve been ignoring for More About: Back
Asian Gourmet Rice Crisps
2008-02-28 03:20:00 I found these a few weeks ago at my local grocery store and I’ve been meaning to post them ever since. They were in the Asian food section by the soy sauce. It was quite a surprise as I’ve been down that aisle many times and I never noticed them before. So I checked out the nutritional information and I was pleased to find that 4 crisps are only 120 calories. I guess I now need to tell you More About: Rice , Crisps , Gourmet
Sick as a Dog and Watching Paula
2008-02-26 04:24:00 Boy does being sick suck! I canceled classes today and actually slept for hours. I needed it but I still feel like crap. Throat, head, chills, fever, you name it. So what do I do bundled on my couch? I watch the Food Network of course! Now I love Paula Dean as much as the next ‘wanna be home cook’ but today I saw her do something, well, insane is the only world I can think it. Imagine this More About: Watching , Sick
Note to Self...
2008-02-25 04:21:00 You still need some level of accountability on the weekends. They just can’t be a stream of mindless nibbles. Yes, you are maintaining nicely but if you want to loose those 5 pesky pounds you gained this winter you are going to have to get a bite more serious. That being said, good job on the step class yesterday and the weight training session today. And yes, you did actually bench More About: Note , Note to Self
Totally Random Friday
2008-02-23 06:14:00 I have no brain power tonight so I’m randomly posting things that I’ve been meaning to tell you guys. This weeks been CRAZY. First, on the workout front, I did manage to get in TWO Racquetball games which is a good thing because I didn’t get a chance to go to the gym. However, I forgot to tell you guys my BIG trainer news and free weight progress (at least I think I did – told you, CRAZY More About: Random , Friday
What do you love about your body?
2008-02-21 04:05:00 This week's question was inspired by a meme swizzlepop posted a few weeks ago. It was called The “I LOVE ME” List and I’ve been meaning to post my responses but MAN I just don’t have any time (I’ve also been meaning to post about 3 food finds, respond to the bazillion messages in my inbox and visit my some of my favorite blogs, but I digress). So instead, I took the concept and simply ask, More About: Body , Love
Who said it would be easy? - A Response
2008-02-20 03:31:00 I received this comment today on my post Dieting Made me Fat - How’d I get Skinny? and thought it warranted a response. Ummm, yeah...those are good suggestions and I'm glad it worked for you. But what about those of us who've already been doing exactly that for years, without losing weight? Willpower, Motivation or Something Else?
2008-02-19 05:26:00 Before leaving work tonight, the husband called and asked if I’d be willing to pick up McDonald’s on the way home. *Sigh* Not Fast food, anything but that! Especially after my weekend of indiscretions which, unfortunately, included a trip to MickeyD’s. But I said yes, and hit the drive thru on my home. Dieting Made me Fat - How’d I get Skinny?
2008-02-16 20:08:00 (This was a post I wrote as a guest blogger awhile back, I wanted to share it here) It’s true! Let me explain. When I was a kid, I longed to be thinner. I wasn’t obese. I wasn’t thin. I was a normal, active child that could possible be considered “chubby” in comparison to “skinny” people. I had a father that was preoccupied with the weight of his daughter and it was pointed out to me more More About: Skinny , Made , Dieting
A Valentines Day Plan
2008-02-15 04:56:00 We decided to take the toddler out to Bertucci’s Brick Oven Pizza to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I went in opened eyed and with a plan. You need a plan for a place like that. Well, I NEED a plan for a place like that. The plan was simple, order a soup so I can nibble on the toddler's pizza and share an appetizer with the husband. It worked! The Hardest Part is Getting Out the Door.
2008-02-14 05:48:00 It’s the middle of the semester and I still haven’t found my groove yet. I feel like my schedule is held together by paper clips and scotch tape. Literally, I’m flying by the seat of my pants. Tonight after dinner (the only time I had to hit the gym) I barely had enough energy to clean up the kitchen let alone go workout. I wanted to go but I didn’t want to leave, if that makes any sense! More About: Part , Door
Do you use Artificial Sweeteners?
More articles from this author:2008-02-13 04:13:00 Time for another Question of the Week. For this one, I’m responding to the discussion that got started on 6 On the Go Snacks I Can't Live Without. The comments got me thinking how much artificial sweeteners I use and with the latest news maybe it’s something we should all assess.
