Ben & Jerry’s Lighten Up!
2008-03-03 04:02:00
I hope this isn’t a “What are you, living under a rock” find but I just (re)discovered that Ben & Jerry’s has a lighter line.   The husband wanted to get a treat for himself and good old B&J’s were 2 for $5 so I just HAD to take look.  I figured I could get a fun flavor and go home, separate it into 4 portions and have a ready go ‘splurgy’ dessert.  I mean a life without Ben & Jerry’s is,
Saturday Link Fest!
2008-03-02 05:25:00
I’m feeling SO better! Not 100% but a lot better. Tomorrow I WILL be going to the gym and getting back into my groove. It will be my first workout WITH the trainer! I can’t wait.  Anyway I thought it would be fun to do a bit of a link fest today. I’ve been collecting a few things all week that caught my eye.  So here goes! In need of some motivation? Girl on a Mission gave a great Pep Talk

Listening to My Body
2008-02-29 21:58:00
It’s Friday again? I feel like I just posted Totally Random Friday yesterday!  That’s how fast my week went and I didn’t even accomplish anything! Argh! I HATE BEING SICK!  I went to the doctors yesterday and it appears I have a stomach virus. Although he wants to keep an eye on me because he’s worried it may be something else. So he told me to go on a liquid diet for a day or two and call

How do you get back to a routine?
2008-02-28 04:16:00
Ok, this weekly question is getting pulled directly from my week. MAN this bug has thrown me for a loop this week!  I didn’t feel much like eating during the day but when I did it wasn’t anything healthy. I haven’t been drinking as much water as I should. I just feel BLAH!   Now I’m stuck in that limbo between not feeling quite 100% but having to get back to everything I’ve been ignoring for

Asian Gourmet Rice Crisps
2008-02-28 03:20:00
I found these a few weeks ago at my local grocery store and I’ve been meaning to post them ever since.  They were in the Asian food section by the soy sauce. It was quite a surprise as I’ve been down that aisle many times and I never noticed them before. So I checked out the nutritional information and I was pleased to find that 4 crisps are only 120 calories. I guess I now need to tell you

Sick as a Dog and Watching Paula
2008-02-26 04:24:00
Boy does being sick suck! I canceled classes today and actually slept for hours. I needed it but I still feel like crap. Throat, head, chills, fever, you name it. So what do I do bundled on my couch? I watch the Food Network of course! Now I love Paula Dean as much as the next ‘wanna be home cook’ but today I saw her do something, well, insane is the only world I can think it. Imagine this

Note to Self...

You still need some level of accountability on the weekends.  They just can’t be a stream of mindless nibbles. Yes, you are maintaining nicely but if you want to loose those 5 pesky pounds you gained this winter you are going to have to get a bite more serious. That being said, good job on the step class yesterday and the weight training session today. And yes, you did actually bench

Totally Random Friday
2008-02-23 06:14:00
I have no brain power tonight so I’m randomly posting things that I’ve been meaning to tell you guys.  This weeks been CRAZY.  First, on the workout front, I did manage to get in TWO Racquetball games which is a good thing because I didn’t get a chance to go to the gym. However, I forgot to tell you guys my BIG trainer news and free weight progress (at least I think I did – told you, CRAZY

What do you love about your body?
2008-02-21 04:05:00
This week's question was inspired by a meme swizzlepop posted a few weeks ago. It was called The “I LOVE ME” List and I’ve been meaning to post my responses but MAN I just don’t have any time (I’ve also been meaning to post about 3 food finds, respond to the bazillion messages in my inbox and visit my some of my favorite blogs, but I digress). So instead, I took the concept and simply ask,

Who said it would be easy? - A Response
2008-02-20 03:31:00
I received this comment today on my post Dieting Made me Fat - How’d I get Skinny? and thought it warranted a response. Ummm, yeah...those are good suggestions and I'm glad it worked for you. But what about those of us who've already been doing exactly that for years, without losing weight? I ate 1200-1500 calories - on a low-fat, high-protein, veggie & whole grain diet - for several

Willpower, Motivation or Something Else?
2008-02-19 05:26:00
Before leaving work tonight, the husband called and asked if I’d be willing to pick up McDonald’s on the way home. *Sigh* Not Fast food, anything but that! Especially after my weekend of indiscretions which, unfortunately, included a trip to MickeyD’s. But I said yes, and hit the drive thru on my home. Now, any other day, the smell of the fries would be enough to send me into a mindless

Dieting Made me Fat - How’d I get Skinny?
2008-02-16 20:08:00
(This was a post I wrote as a guest blogger awhile back, I wanted to share it here) It’s true! Let me explain. When I was a kid, I longed to be thinner. I wasn’t obese. I wasn’t thin. I was a normal, active child that could possible be considered “chubby” in comparison to “skinny” people. I had a father that was preoccupied with the weight of his daughter and it was pointed out to me more

A Valentines Day Plan
2008-02-15 04:56:00
We decided to take the toddler out to Bertucci’s Brick Oven Pizza to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I went in opened eyed and with a plan. You need a plan for a place like that.  Well, I NEED a plan for a place like that. The plan was simple, order a soup so I can nibble on the toddler's pizza and share an appetizer with the husband. It worked! I don’t feel like an overstuffed whale right now.

The Hardest Part is Getting Out the Door.
2008-02-14 05:48:00
It’s the middle of the semester and I still haven’t found my groove yet. I feel like my schedule is held together by paper clips and scotch tape. Literally, I’m flying by the seat of my pants. Tonight after dinner (the only time I had to hit the gym) I barely had enough energy to clean up the kitchen let alone go workout. I wanted to go but I didn’t want to leave, if that makes any sense!

Do you use Artificial Sweeteners?
2008-02-13 04:13:00
Time for another Question of the Week.  For this one, I’m responding to the discussion that got started on 6 On the Go Snacks I Can't Live Without. The comments got me thinking how much artificial sweeteners I use and with the latest news maybe it’s something we should all assess. If I really think about my intake, besides my daily light yogurt I really don’t use much. I don’t drink diet

Remember this feeling. I stayed with my food plan and after a long day of work (including a round of racquetball in the morning) I came home hungry. Now any other day when I saw the pizza the husband ordered I would have eaten ALL the leftovers. Tonight, I closed the box, cut up, sautéed some veggies and topped them with some of my leftover sauce. I FEEL GREAT! Better then great, in control.

Wonderful Weekend
2008-02-11 05:08:00
It’s been awhile since I posted a Sensational Sunday and even though this weekend wasn’t my best on the food front I still like to recognize good days when I have them. My weekend was jam packed! The husband and I got a movie in Friday night while the toddler hung out with his friends. Saturday started with a step class for me then on to family dancing at a local club. Today was even better

6 On the Go Snacks I Can't Live Without
2008-02-09 05:23:00
After yesterday's post, I sat down and thought about what my go to snacks are when I’m on the run. These are things I ALWAYS keep in stock to throw in my lunch bag on my way out the door. Yogurt – I eat at least one container of non-fat yogurt a day. I usually by whatever brand is on sale, whether it be Weight Watchers, Dannon, Yoplait or the store brand.  I know they are chock full of

Note to Self...

Pack more healthy snacks for the day. You aren’t eating enough and I think it’s causing you to want to snack excessively after dinner. However, good job keeping it in check and making a healthy snack instead of grabbing a bag of chips or having the husbands chocolate cupcakes. It was WAY more satisfying and much better for you. Following my Own Advice
2008-02-07 03:39:00
AAACK! I weighed in tonight at a disappointing 145.2 lbs.  I know it’s not the end of the world but you all know that feeling when you are trying so hard and the scale just won’t cooperate. So I’m giving myself the same pep talk I give others when they email me with this exact scenario. Keep doing what you are doing and the scale will catch up.  That number is only one indicator of

Why do you want to lose weight?
2008-02-06 05:49:00
Every week I find myself responding to a lot questions ranging from the personal to generic, the detailed to the broad, the serious to the cute. As I answer each of these questions and formulate a response I started to realize my answers are not only beneficial to the asker but to me as well! They require me to perform a level of self analysis that is helpful on my journey. Sometime the pause

Food is NOT the Enemy
2008-02-04 04:45:00
I need to turn off anonymous commenting purely for the fact I can’t credit those that make great points on my posts. There were two comments on my BLOW OUT journal that really got me thinking.  The idea I took away from both were so simply inspired… FOOD IS NOT THE ENEMY! I know this. I really do. I mean I LOVE food, good food. Healthy food I can be creative with. Food I feel good about

50 Things About Me - Meme
2008-02-03 13:30:00
This is what happens when the toddler wakes up SUPER early. I’m watching Sesame Street and TRYING to stay awake. Why not fill out a meme! Do you like blue cheese? Nope, I never understood it’s appeal. Cheese WITH mold? Normally I cut that part off! Have you ever smoked heroin? Ummm NO. Do you own a gun? Nope What flavor do you add to your drink at Sonic? Never been to a Sonic, I

Weight Loss Week 1 Day 7 - The Blow Out
2008-02-02 04:45:00
OK, HUGE confession coming. Last night after Lost I had a snack attack. It  didn’t end at the popcorn.  I grabbed the box of Triscuits AND, ya ready? The husbands DARN Swedish Fish! I didn’t pig out to the point overstuffed-ness but they were definitely an unnecessary splurge especially when I was low on weekly points. Then today started off good and I did it again. It’s that gosh darn

Weight Loss Week 1 Day 5 - THE WEIGH IN
2008-01-31 05:19:00
Ok, you guys may be wondering why in the world I am weighing in day 5 of my week instead day 7.  Well, I learned a long time ago perfection isn’t worth it. I felt myself slipping. I thought I needed some structure so I began a week on plan without ‘officially’ weighing in. (For the record, I officially weigh in on the Weigh t Watchers scales) I started when I needed to start, not “tomorrow”,

This morning I felt like Kelly Bundy. Remember the episode of Married with Children when Kelly said, every new piece of information pushes an old one out? Well it’s true, it happens. I think I have hit my maximum brain capacity. This morning went off without a hitch. I ate breakfast with the toddler, packed a great lunch, hopped in car and headed to the day care on the way to work. It was a

Weight Loss Week 1 Day 2 - COOK-FEST
2008-01-28 05:07:00
I started my day in the kitchen, homemade sauce, meatballs, banana muffins, and some homemade soup. It was fun! There is something therapeutic about cooking for me, especially when I’m starting my week off. Tomorrow is my first day of classes. I have a night class so that means packing a lunch and a dinner plus a boatload of snacks. It’s a long day but I always eat better when I’m
