A Virus, a Podcast and a New Blog
2009-01-31 21:09:00
Strange post title, I know. Chalk it up to a lack of creativity when I’m sick. :) Let me fill you in on the virus thing. Last night, something, I’m not quite sure what it was, infected my body. At 4:30 AM my stomach did all it could to remove the trespassers. It’s now ...

Just a Long Recap of My Crazy Emotional Roller Coaster Day
2009-01-29 04:50:00
This morning we were on overdrive. The house needed to be ready for a showing. The toddler and I cooked breakfast (recording ourselves while making banana pancakes) and then cleaned up while the husband shoveled snow. We had a great morning! And my house is spotless! :) But as we waited for the ...

WAY back when, I did a food find for Sensible Portions Multi Grain Mini Crisps. I found them at my local BJ’s. After writing the review the company asked if they could send me additional samples to try and I agreed. They sent a plethora of items. So many the toddler thought it was Christmas! ...

Fighting the Funk - Taking A Long Walk
2008-06-10 02:43:00
OK, my “Fight the Funk ” day is coming to a close. I'm not going to lie, I'm still in a bit of a funk. I started the day better then I'm ending it. I didn't make it to the gym, I wasn't up for a run, so I took a nice long walk alone with my headphones. It was great! AND much better then watching TV for that half hour (which would have made the funk a lot worse!) I realize my blog has turned into a self help outlet but boy did I need it. I'm taking 3 days off this week and heading to the beach with the toddler. I'm hoping a few days away will snap me out of the 'you know what'. I'm not going to even say it again. Tomorrow I plan on posting the question of the week and then I'll be signing off until the weekend. Hope you all had a funk-less Monday!

Fighting the Funk - Something Scary
2008-06-09 19:53:00
OK, This Fighting the Funk Series is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. I am starting to feel fabulous again! I am really getting a renewed sense of motivation. I got an email from an online friend of mine that said... DO ONE THING THAT SCARES YOU EVERY DAY. I think Eleanor Roosevelt said it and it's genius (of course)! If I sit back and think about it, I do do things that scare me every day! Let's see.... I walked into Weight Watchers, started running, took a spinning class, tried mangosteen (have you seen that scary fruit), climbed the wall, write/wrote this blog, walked into the free weight room, quite my job, embarked on the cook book adventure, I really could go on and on. Some of these decisions scared the $hit out of me! But I did them! So when I read her email it clicked. I just need to scare myself today! What a GREAT idea! That'll pull me out of the funk! I've been considering redesigning WeightWatchen for sometime. I feel as though I'm growing out of it. The ser...

Fighting the Funk - Making Good FUN Food
2008-06-09 16:22:00
If I had to eat boring salads everyday or “diet” foods, I'd go nuts. One way I find motivation is by getting creative in the kitchen and turning my trigger/nemesis foods into healthy fun options. My choice today, pizza, of course! I love pizza, I mean I really LOVE it. It's the one food item I have the hardest time saying 'no' to and if I say 'yes', I have a hard time stopping. Lost on a desert island? It's my choice hands down. On death row, my request? York Style pizza with extra cheese. I think you get the point. Well today I decided on a cross between my Provolone Pita Pizzas and Tortilla Pizza. I used a large whole wheat pita, leftover sauce, short cuts chicken, diced colored peppers and 1oz fancy shredded cheese. It was crispy, cheesy, yummy pizza goodness! I'm starting to feel better, can you tell? Notice the water jug, it's going down!

Fighting the Funk - Solving the Water Problem
2008-06-09 13:28:00
A few days ago I wrote a post about how my water consumption has dropped since being home most of the day. To help solve the problem, and consequently help get me out of this funk that I've been in, I came up with the water pitcher idea. Take a nice sized pitcher, fill it with ice and water and keep it out in plain site. Sounds SO simple doesn't it? But, for me, this seems to be working. It allows me to instantaneously pour or refill my glass and seeing the pitcher reminds to drink the water in the first place. Stay tuned for other “Fight the Funk ” posts today. I'll be looking for things to help inspire me today. P.S. Yes, yes, my pitcher is really a vase in disguise. I really like it and it's pretty, so why not? :~)

Fighting the Funk
2008-06-09 04:59:00
Let me start by saying, I don't know what's up with me. I really have had NO desire to write, journal, eat good, or even get out of bed for the last few days. I'm just NOT motivated. As everyone knows, especially those with kids, you just gotta deal but boy I've been kinda miserable. I just feel off and in a funk. That's about the only way I can describe it. Let's see, what's been going on? We had a little get together on Saturday for the toddlers 3rd birthday. For the food spread I stuck with mostly healthy options of Simple Homemade Hummus (I added some roasted red pepper – YUM), fresh cut veggies, cut up whole wheat pitas, baked tortillas, salsa, a cold cut platter with with whole wheat buns, and to wash it down, my healthy party punch! The hummus and punch were both big hits which made me SO happy, the only thing that competed with them was the chicken nugget platter I ordered from Chick-Fil-A. It really was the hit of the party! The toddler and I posted a ...

Nike + iPod Sport Kit - A Review
2008-06-07 06:07:00
I'm going to hold off on my journal entry tonight. I'm just not in the mood BUT I had to share my experience with the Apple Nike + iPod Thingamajig (I'm really not sure what to call it, can you tell?) I'll start by saying, IT IS AWESOME! For a stat girl like me I can't wait to start charting all my runs and tracking them. The great thing, is it requires no work on your part besides plugging the iPod in. I was amazed. Here's how it works. First, you need an older ipod nano, like these. They are the ones that have the right sized connection. If you have the right nano you plug in a small device into the iPod. Then you put the little Nike chip in or on your shoe. I don't actually have Nike shoes so I used this shoe pouch and attached it to my laces. That's it! Now go run! When you get back, plug the iPod in to sync, it will ask you if you want to save the data and then viola you get a visual of your run, like this... How COOL is that?!? Now, I added the blue text to p...

What's with the Water?
2008-06-06 01:43:00
As you may know, the recent change in my employment status has interrupted my routine and one of the things that is suffering is my water intake. Instead of equipping myself with a large water bottle and brining it to work or having a case of water in the office, I'm home all day juggling toddler, client projects, my sites, my house and the array of everyday chores that seems to never end. You would think that by being home everything would be more accessible and I'd more apt to drinking my 8 glasses, but it's not the case. My routine is so out of whack sometimes I don't even realize I haven't had a drop to drink until lunch. So I set out to do what I do, look for motivation online, find a link or an article that would kick me in the arse and post it for me and, coincidently you! Well, what I found surprised the crap out of me! ...drinking “lots” of water apparently is a waste of time (and money if you’re a fan of bottled water) unless you’re an at...

Body Electric - A Book Review
2008-06-05 04:46:00
A few days ago I received a copy of Body Electric by Margaret Richard to review. I have to be honest, I never heard of Margaret Richard before. Apparently she has been a popular personality on PBS for 18 years, I guess I've been living under a rock! The book is split into two parts. The first is information about getting motivated, building muscle and general information about activity and health. The information is geared towards an *cough* older audience. I don't like that term but I'm not sure how else to say it. Let's just say there is a chapter on menopause an body shape. I appreciated the information but I'm a little out of the demographic and felt that while reading. The second half is an illustrated exercise guide. The chapters are split by body part and Margaret illustrates all of the moves. They are very uncomplicated and use minimal equipment, hand weights, chairs, and an exercise ball. The information was very clear and concise and I liked that variations were off...

Which is easier for you, Exercise or Diet?
2008-06-04 03:49:00
As always this question of the week is inspired by what I'm going through right now. Most people know I'm a gym “immigrant”. When I started this journey I was hell bent on losing weight without exercising because that's how I lived. So I focused on diet, on learning how to portion control and overall making better choices. I don't want to say it was easy, but changing my diet seemed easier then getting motivated to workout. Now, after discovering I really do love working out, I seem to have the opposite problem. Exercising is easy now. I look forward to my time at the gym. However, my diet seems a bit out of control again. Sometimes I really feel like I can only have a handle on one or the other and I'm curious what you guys find easier. SO..... Which is easier for you, Exercise or Diet ?

Triple Chocolate Chunk VitaTops
2008-06-02 19:24:00
Most of you know I'm a fan of Vitalicious. I love their mixes and brownies, especially the pomegranate ones. Even though I like their products I never got a chance to try a vitaTop until recently. Of course the one I selected HAD to be chocolate, not only chocolate but TRIPLE chocolate. "Mmmmmm" I think that is an exact quote from the toddler when he took a bite. They are moist, a good size and tasty with a fair amount of chocolate chips throughout. Weighing in at only 100 calories, 1.5g of fat and 5g of fiber (1 point) I love them for a late night snack. If I have some points left over I'll add a scoop of Breyer's Free Vanilla on top! in the words of one of my favorite TV cooks, YUM-O! If you want to give them (or any Vitalicious product) a try make sure to check out my VitaStore and use the new promotion code of WRN63008 for 10% off!

I FINISHED MY FIRST 5K!
2008-06-01 17:24:00
Sorry didn't mean to yell, but I DID IT!! I can't believe it. I mean I've been talking about it for a while now but not until I actually crossed the finish line did it become apparent that I finished my first 5 race! It was FUN! The starting gate was jam packed with people and I felt a little out of place among the High School track teams and hoards of shirtless runners with water equipped fanny packs. I stayed towards the back and kept my own pace. People passed me and that was ok. Although, my inner competitor really wanted to smoke them I knew I'd never finish if I didn't keep a slow pace. My goal wasn't speed it was to finish and I did that in exactly 32:40! My goal was 35 minutes so I'm ecstatic! Here I am about a 10th of a mile from the finish. Honestly, I was dying (can you tell?) The last ½ mile was up hill and I was trying so hard to keep a jogging pace. I did stop to walk twice around the 2 mile and mark but I kept a fast pace just to get through a little c...
The Choice for Plastic Surgery after Weight Loss
2008-06-01 03:48:00
This is such a tough topic for me to discuss. I want to spread the “love thyself” message. I want to be a women who looks in a mirror, flaws and all, and says “I love you, just the way you are”. I've always wanted to be that person but truthfully, I'm not and never was. I envy people who have that quality at any size, they are a truly inspirations. It wasn't until I accepted myself that weight loss was possible. When I accepted my flaws, faced my emotions and believed in ME, I was able to really step up to the challenge and long term commitment that weight loss took. Once I reached my goal, I faced the new challenge so many people who lose weight do. I had/have access skin and body issues that I would not have if I never carried the extra 70lbs. Excess weigh puts stress on our bodies in more ways then one and (especially as we age) it doesn't just snap back to pre-weight shape. I think most of us know this. So once I reached my goal weight I decided t...

A Friday Wrap Up
2008-05-30 14:23:00
I feel like I've been all over the map this week, still trying to find that routine I so desperately need. I'm getting closer (or maybe I'm just getting more used to the chaos.) I wrapped up one of my first clients this week as a business owner! I redesigned and coded a site for a Maryland dog trainer. She couldn't be happier with the site and it made me feel so good to do something I REALLY love while making someone else happy AND getting paid for it! Nothing is more satisfying. Well, maybe except seeing a loss on the scale when I'm trying to lose! ;~P BlogToLose hit over 500 members this week!! I can't believe how fast it's growing. We are still ironing out all the kinks but it's really what I had imagine, a place where people can find the support they want and need to change their eating habits and live a healthier life. I've said it before but I'll say it again, I don't think I would be as successful as I am keeping the weight off if it wasn't for this blog an...

Muchas Gracias Taco Bell!
2008-05-29 16:46:00
Just by chance the other day the husband wanted to go to Kentucky Fried Chicken for lunch. I told you all, fast food junky, right? Anyway, I said sure and crossed my fingers that I'd have the strength to get something not dripping in fast food fried grease. The KFC we decided to hit was actually one of those new fangled double joints, with a Taco Bell and a KFC under the same roof. I LOVE this idea as the husband and I rarely agree on anything and the double fast food place gives us the most options. Anyway, as I scanned the menu to choose the healthiest options I could find, I came across the Taco Bell Fresco menu. Everything looked like pretty good choices! So I took a leap and ordered the Fresco Zesty Chicken Border Bowl. It was a delicious mish mosh of rice, beans, lettuce, chicken and salsa, very tasty and filling! Coming home I again, crossed my fingers as I looked up the nutritional information. Surprisingly weighing in at 350 calories, 8g of fat and 10g of fiber it ...
