Wrong Number
2008-01-01 17:48:00
Leola Starling of Ribrock, Tenn., had a serious telephone problem. But unlike most people she did something about it.The brand-new $10 million Ribrock Plaza Motel opened nearby and had acquired almost the same telephone number as Leola. From the moment the motel opened, Leola was besieged by calls not for her. Since she had the same phone number for years, she felt that she had a case to persuade the motel management to change its number. Naturally, the management refused claiming that it could not change its stationery. The phone company was not helpful, either. A number was a number, and just because a customer was getting someone else's calls 24 hours a day didn't make it responsible. After her pleas fell on deaf ears, Leola decided to take matters into her own hands. At 9 o'clock the phone rang. Someone from Memphis was calling the motel and asked for a room for the following Tuesday. Leola said, "No problem. How many nights?"A few hours later Dallas checked in. A secretary wa...

The Builder and the Priest
2007-12-30 23:56:00
A builder and a priest are out for a game of golf one afternoon. Unfortunately the builder wasn't very good at the game and every time he missed a shot would shout 'Sh*t, missed'.The game went on and after several outbursts from the builder; the priest could hold his tongue no longer. "Don't swear like that" he told his friend, "or God will punish you". The builder apologized and the game continued. As soon as he missed another shot the builder shouted "Sh*t, missed." and continued to do this every time he missed a shot for the next three holes. The priest was starting to get really angry by now and said "I must insist that you stop swearing this instant, otherwise God will hear you and punish you!"Once again, his pleas made no difference as the builder missed an easy putt on the seventeenth green and shouted out "Sh*t, missed". Immediately the heavens parted and a bolt of lightning flew from the sky, hitting the priest and killing him stone dead.Suddenly, a booming voice was he...

Misunderstanding...
2007-12-29 16:37:00
Some time ago Mr. Clinton was hosting a state dinner when at the last minute his regular cook took ill and they had to get a replacement at short notice. The fellow arrived and turned out to be a very grubby looking man named Jon. The President voiced his concerns to his chief of staff but was told that this was the best they could do at such short notice.Just before the meal, the President noticed the cook sticking his fingers in the soup to taste it and again he complained to the chief of staff about the cook, but he was told that this man was supposed to be a very good chef. The meal went okay but the President was sure that the soup tasted a little off, and by the time dessert came, he was starting to have stomach cramps and nausea. It was getting worse and worse till finally he had to excuse himself from the state dinner to look for the bathroom. Passing through the kitchen, he caught sight of the cook, Jon, scratching his rear end and this made him feel even worse. By now he w...
Friday's Feast - #173
2007-12-28 18:45:00
AppetizerName 2 things you would like to accomplish in 2008. Still be upright at the end of 2008, and to have more fun boating than I did this year. I'm not sure the last one is possible though.SoupWith which cartoon character do you share personality traits?Bucky Katt. I have that that same smart mouth, and dry sense of humor. Look at my header...that's Bucky Katt. He's a newspaper comic strip. SaladWhat time of day (or night) were you born? That was a whole lot of years ago, but I remember it was on a Saturday and that in was around 9 in the morning.Main CourseTell us something special about your hometown.Watching it disappear into the distance the day I left. I just hated my hometown, but most kids do long for some place else to be.DessertIf you could receive a letter from anyone in the world, who would you want to get one from? Tom Selleck, who else.I see you! Don't forget to leave a comment and have a great day. :)

The Barber
2007-12-27 16:32:00
A man was getting a haircut prior to a trip to Rome. He mentioned the trip to the barber who responded, "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded, dirty and full of Italians. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?" "We're taking TWA," was the reply. "We got a great rate!""TWA?" exclaimed the barber. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are rude, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?""We'll be at the downtown International Marriott.""That dump! That's the worst hotel in the city. The rooms are small, the service is surly and they're overpriced. So, whatcha doing when you get there?""We're going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope.""That's rich," laughed the barber. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."A month later, the man again came in for his regular...

Spirit of Christmas Award
2007-12-22 21:18:00
Julia of A Piece of My Mind awarded me with the Spirit of Christmas award. Here's what she said about me:Sandee posted 13 wonderfully wise quotes about Christmas for her Thursday Thirteen this week. She approaches life all year round with a wry sense of humor which shows in every blog post. Christmas gave her fantastic material to work with! She pokes fun at life taken too seriously, which gives anyone who visits her blog a chance to relax and have a laugh. Thank you for that, Sandee.Thank you very much for the kind words. I feel so honored.According to Santa's Community Blog, where this originated, "this award is for those who talk about and show the spirit of Christmas in their blogs. What is the Spirit of Christmas you ask?Quite simply it is those that have a generous and giving nature. Those who care about others. Those who have a kind word to say or a broad shoulder to lean on in the times that others need that. Those who display the 'Spirit of Christmas'."It's my turn to p...

You Gotta Be Shittin' Me!
2007-12-21 16:42:00
Have you ever wondered where the phrase "You Gotta Be Shittin' Me" came from? Well, it just so happens to have originated through the Father of Our Country way back when, George Washington was crossing the Delaware River with his troops. There were 33 [remember this number] in Washington's boat. It was extremely dark and storming furiously and the water was tossing them about. Finally, Washington grabbed Corporal Peters [remember this name] and stationed him at the front of the boat with a lantern. He ordered him to keep swinging it, so they could see where they were heading.Corporal Peters, through driving rain and cold, continued swinging the lantern back and forth, back and forth. Then a big gust of wind and a wave hit and threw Corporal Peters and his lantern into the Delaware.Washington and his troops searched for nearly an hour trying to find Corporal Peters, but to no avail. All of them felt terrible, for the Corporal had been one of their favorites.Sometime later, Washing...

The Nativity Scene...
2007-12-21 03:33:00
In a small southern town there was a "Nativity Scene " that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small feature bothered me.The three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets. Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left. At a "Quik Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, "You stupid Yankees never do read the Bible!" I assured her that I did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible. She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said "See, it says right here, 'The three wise man came from afar.'"I see you! Don't forget to leave a comment and have a great day. :)
